The hotel is perfectly located in the center of the French Quarter. We enjoined the unique design of the hotel and the cats/staff. The room was ready and spotless when we arrived early to check in. We will definitely be back again!

The hotel has a lot of historic charm, a beautiful courtyard and 3 resident cats. The staff was polite and helpful. The only thing is that being a historic building the walls are pretty thin. I could hear my neighbors. They weren't even being loud, just normal talking. I ended up buying earplugs to sleep. No magnetic locks. Doors have old-fashioned keys. There also wasn't a deadbolt on the inside. I would honestly rate this 4.5 overall.

The restaurants. architecture, music, and all the happenings and things going on in the streets, but when one enters the Olivier House it is like entering an oasis of calm, quiet charm away from the outside hustle and bustle. It is hard to believe you are only a block from Bourbon street because it is so quiet and relaxing. Better than that even, is that it does not shield you from New Orleans culture and feel, but really immerses you into it. It would be hard to find a place that feels more like old New Orleans than this hotel. Couple that with the great staff, beautiful rooms and laid back vibe and it just made our time in New Orleans perfect. Thank you all at the hotel. We can't wait to come back.
V7926ANchristineb (10/5): Charming Olivier House Hotel! - My family and I just stayed 4 nights at the Olivier House Hotel. We chose Olivier for the charm, history & proximity to Bourbon and all the activities nearby. Pros: Everyone was super friendly and check in went very smoothly. They have coffee, tea, hot chocolate, biscotti, cookies & water bottles all day for the guests. The atmosphere in the parlor & lobby is so calming with the decor, music and 3 resident kitties that were usually curled up in a ball sleeping in a chair or on the couch. We had a second floor street facing balcony room with 2 queen beds. Everything was super clean! Cons: Not many, but just a couple..I wish that the bathroom had grab bars and somewhere to put shampoo/conditioner & soap in the shower. The tile is beautiful, but got pretty slippery. Also, there are a few areas on the way to the room where there are a couple of stairs..no biggie, but I felt like one area in particular needed a small rail to hold onto. I had to concentrate really hard not to fall (recently had knee replacement surgery). Balcony room was fun to people watch, but when I was ready for bed, the French quarter was ready to party. This isn’t the hotel’s fault. Don’t get a street facing room if you want a quiet night. Loud cars, trucks & motorcycles parade through the street revving their engines and play LOUD music all hours of the night. Not to mention the people walking the street. The last 2 nights we had to use foam earplugs and white noise all night. Overall a wonderful experience! I would definitely stay here again, but in a different room!
jimdH1847XI (10/5): Our second time and just as good - Sometimes when you return to a place it does not live up to your great memories, not so at the Olivier House. Just like our first stay here, we found it to be super clean, comfortable, having a truly nice staff, and packed with as much old New Orleans charm as one could possibly hope for. It is not just a hotel, but a whole New Orleans experience. One of the coolest places we have ever stayed in. If you want a mundane corporate experience, don't come here. but if you want to get immersed into New Orleans culture in the best possible way, this is the place for you. We cannot wait to come back again. As a tip. I might add that the first time we came, we stayed in a streetside room which was fun to see the goings on in the street and people watching, but those same people did make some noise at night. The second time we chose an interior room which was whisper quiet. Both were great, but different experiences. I would recommend both, just depending on what experience you wanted. Also I believe they are glad to let guest change rooms if available.
2018CDN (8/5): Adorable! Avoid room 101. - This hotel is adorable! So much charm. Every room is different, and the layout allows for sweet sitting areas and room entrances. The great: The location - right in the middle of the Bourbon St action. Staff were helpful. Room was clean. Water, coffee, and snacks were much appreciated. They handled the parking. And we loved the resident cats. Not so good: we were in room 101, and it’s NOISY. Kept us from sleeping well. Could hear the voices of people walking by on the sidewalk, plus the footsteps from the room above, plus the fans and the elevator noise. I’d definitely stay here again, but not in room 101.

Her assistant, a grey feline of questionable professional urgency, was asleep on duty. Management may wish to review productivity standards. Adorable, though. Entirely adorable. The lobby is a salon of historic gravitas — towering cathedral-height doors, a fireplace with matriarchal authority, antique portraits silently correcting your posture, and gilded mirrors that do not merely reflect you… they elevate you. There exists what appears to be either a Narnia wardrobe or an ecclesiastical confessional, now transformed into a marbled lavatory so reverent I felt compelled to confess my French Quarter indiscretions. I left spiritually lighter. The elevator? A jewel box. Barely wide enough for one person and a cooperative suitcase, complete with a sign reading “No ballroom dancing, please.” Sir. Survival itself felt ambitious. I adored it. My claustrophobic husband chose the stairs. Our room — accessed through delightfully narrow double doors — felt like a refined gnome residence. Red floral rugs, low historic ceilings encouraging dignified posture, a repurposed antique sewing table holding the television, a marble bath with the tiniest sink, and a wrought-iron staircase spiraling to a lofted king bed beneath beautifully paneled ceilings (jumping not advised unless seeking structural consequences). The loft balcony overlooked the entry below — perfect for Shakespearean proclamations to one’s spouse. The courtyards were brick labyrinths of fountains, ivy, wrought iron, and — inexplicably but magnificently — a cannon beside the pool. It was freezing. We did not swim. We admired. After dinner and a raucous sing-along at Pat O’Brien’s, we returned triumphant — and hungry. And there, waiting faithfully in the lobby, were our midnight saviors: A biscotti. Some Cheez-Its. In daylight, quaint. At midnight, transcendent. The biscotti offered dignity. The Cheez-Its delivered fluorescent absolution. Day One was an absolute success. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would absolutely return — ballroom dancing optional.
Jan206 (10/5): Surrounded by New Orleans History - We loved staying in this small hotel in the French Quarter. The furnishings are vintage/antique, and each room has a different vibe with little patios and gardens tucked throughout the property. We were told it was once a private residence and the current hotel incorporates that house plus 2 other buildings. If you want a "cookie cutter" room, I suggest you book a chain hotel. We loved having a balcony, a sitting area and a microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. We felt surrounded by history. Our Petite Loft room was perfect for an 8-day visit as we were within walking distance of Bourbon, Royal, and other French Quarter streets, yet it was quiet inside our room. Each morning there were pastries, oranges, bottled water and coffee provided in the downstairs parlor. From this hotel we walked everywhere--World War II Museum, the French Market, Riverwalk outlets, Canal Street. Some of these day walking trips were 30+ minutes long but we enjoyed seeing the old New Orleans buildings as we strolled.
Chozen1st (4/5): Historic Vibes, Zero Upkeep - I rarely leave negative reviews, but our stay at the Oliver House in New Orleans was beyond disappointing. The price was great for the location. The noise level was not to bad, and the staff was great, very friendly; however, there’s a major difference between “vintage rustic charm” and simply being old, dusty, and poorly maintained and unfortunately, this was the latter. Vintage should feel intentional, curated, and clean. What we experienced felt neglected. The space lacked basic upkeep, and the overall atmosphere gave more “forgotten storage attic” than “historic New Orleans character.” Dust, visible wear, and a general sense of uncleanliness made it difficult to relax or feel comfortable. New Orleans is full of authentic, beautifully preserved historic properties that manage to keep their charm while still being spotless and welcoming. This was not one of them. If you’re looking for true vintage elegance, I would strongly suggest exploring other options. Rustic charm should never come at the expense of cleanliness.

douglJ6560VW (10/5): Really nice experience - We go to New Orleans often, and my brother and his family kept saying we should try the Olivier House on our next New Orleans trip. Glad they mentioned it. We loved it and have stayed there twice now. It is a beautiful old place fully restored in a perfect way that keeps its old New Orleans feel and charm. It is clean and comfortable to be sure, but beyond that, it is just such a unique and nice experience. It feels so genuine in every aspect, from the rooms and public areas to how the staff interacts with the guest. I would only caution that if you are a corporate chain hotel kind of person, it may not be for you. This place is the real deal and is as old New Orleans as it gets, and that is the reason we return so often to New Orleans after all, to truly experience it. We almost hate to let others in on the secret of this place, but none the less highly recommend it.

Easily one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. I could not have felt more safe and welcome. The staff was beyond accommodating and friendly. They were genuinely nice and thoughtful as to my comfort and traveling experience in New Orleans. They were a wealth of info about where to go or not go, not just concerning safety as a single woman, but about getting off the beaten tourist path and experiencing the real New Orleans. I love history and wanted to experience that part of the city and my wife was interested in the food and music scene. I can not overemphasize how perfectly the Olivier House fit what we wanted. For me; I loved the truly historic feel and ambiance of the hotel. There is just no substitute for the real thing, and believe me, this 200 year old place is the real thing. I loved wandering around soaking in the architecture, courtyards, and balconies. It is so authentically old New Orleans. My wife; She loved the nice linens, plush towels, and comfortable bed. She likes things to be clean and well kept and so she liked how clean, nice and well maintained they kept everything. That must be a continuing job in an historic old building, and they do it well, and they have done a good job of doing it without losing the original feel of the place. Both of us: We both loved how friendly and helpful the staff is. They treat you like a friend. Because of their advice and info, we had an exceptional time in New Orleans, and got off the beaten tourist path to have some wonderful experiences. We both also enjoyed the free coffee, snacks, bottles of water always out in the parlor and available any time of the day. We hope to come back again and would very much recommend this hotel for anyone looking for the real New Orleans.

It's an ancient building moldering away in one of the most humid places--the French Quarter--on our planet, yet this hotel felt crisp and clean and brightly illuminated, albeit in a dark and mysterious way. I have a penchant for decay. I look for it everywhere. Yet I found it here more in atmosphere than in dilapidation. The all night watchman plays guitar to three slinky felines who curl, raise their backs, then curl again. The cats seem like embodied spirits who know a lot more about the universes than any of us reading this review. My two criticisms: an ambiance-destroying reference to a ghost that haunts the hotel--nothing drives out ghosts more than specific reference to them or, worse, trying to make them a brand of your hotel--and spotty WiFi, which continually reminded me that I hadn't stepped back into some mystical, Gothic southern past but that instead I'm still very much (as far as reality goes) living within the modern world.
daniellenF9485LS (4/5): Uninvited Guests - The location of the hotel was perfect! The ease of getting there and parking and unloading was perfect. Upon arrival, I was in love with the vibes of the place and everything was exactly as pictured online. I specifically chose this place for the eclectic vibes. I loved sitting on the balcony, soaking up the scene. The shower was 👌. Unfortunately, things took a turn just before we were going to bed. I noticed there was a cockroach scampering across the bedroom floor. I tried to kill it but it went under un armoire. So we zipped up our suitcases immediately and just sat there looking for it. I haven't seen one before in person so I wasn’t sure if it was a common thing in the area 🤷‍♀️ Shortly after we saw another one. After that one, I went to speak with the hotel staff and he said although it's not uncommon to see them, they prefer not to have them in rooms with guests. Thankfully he was able to get us to a different room. As we were gathering things to move, yet another roach was in the room. 🪳 When we got to our new room, we left our suitcases zipped up the entire night. It was difficult to fall asleep after that experience and I honestly couldn't wait to leave. We spent over an hour in the morning going through our suitcases, making sure one didn't sneak it before I initially saw them. As much as I wanted to love this place, I could never go back after that experience.

I was greeted by a lady who seemed annoyed as soon as I arrived. She spoke in a very soft voice, I couldn't really hear her. So that was my first impression. I was exhausted as I drove from Houston and wasn't even offered water. She didn't move from her seat and just stared at her computer the entire time during check in, didn't even look at me in the eyes. Then a guy came in and sat with her and was talking to her in spanish the entire time. Nobody offered to help me with my luggage. So that already changed the mood for me. The lobby was nice I do like antique things so it was well decorated. I got to the room and the outlet to charge my phone did not work. It smelled nice and the decoration was pretty. I got room 307 on the third floor which was nice. The tub was dirty and the shower curtain smelled moldy so I didnt exactly feel clean after showering. The seats were very dirty, seems like they havent been cleaned in years so I didnt use them. It had a nice clothes rack which I used for my hats. I liked the antique mirrors and the chandelier. Also the crown moldings in the room are very nice. The light switches were dirty and old, some didnt work. The light fixtures had different color lighting, some warm some white. Some of them were missing. I dont think the rooms are maintained well, those outlets have been there since the 90s. It was very quiet, I was able to sleep even though the hotel is close to Burbon street. Also the AC worked pretty well so the room was nice and cool even though it was hot outside. I really liked the lobby and the bathroom! what a unique bathroom! We were there for southern decadance and when we came back from the bars at night were greeted by a different staff member every time. The only one that was nice was a young white guy, the others didnt even notice us. The cats are cute and very friendly. I wouldnt stay here again sorry.

Strange black residue in the sink kept appearing after we repeatedly removed it. Front desk attendant laughed when we mentioned it. We had to ask more than once to get our room cleaned. Attendants were friendly but not warm/welcoming. It would have been okay for a one or two day stay, but six days was too many to put up with these inconveniences. Cat’s were the best part of the stay.

It has been our go to for at least 15 years.Great staff, clean rooms and an amazing complementary coffee station just off the lobby. It is literally half a block off Bourbon St but it's very quiet and serene inside the hotel. My only gripe this trip was that the downstairs area of our room was a little too warm but the loft was cool and pleasant enough to be able to sleep comfortably. Travel date was the last week of July and I just don't think the ac could quite keep up with the stifling heat this time of year. Already planning our next trip to New Orleans

We stayed in a Jr Suite - King/Courtyard room. It had a 1/2 bath upstairs with the king bed and downstairs we had a full bathroom, living room, medium size refrigerator and microwave.

toreyv2025 (10/5): Ghost, cats, and someone to serenade you before bed. - One of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had, and I stay at a lot of hotels. The architecture is gorgeous. The room was cozy. The pool was like a secret paradise. The staff was absolutely amazing. Kind. Generous. Accommodating. Friendly. Every night we came in a bit drunk. The night shift guy welcomed us back, and serenaded us with his original songs, and an absolutely angelic voice. There are 3 lovely cats here. If you don’t like cats, beat it. Because this is their home, and they were here before you. They’re so sweet, and so cute. I snuggled on them everyday, and couldn’t not pet them every time I walked by. They have a coffee area, with water, and oranges. But you can get breakfast at the cafe across the street. The Dungeon is nearby as well as Unique Tours. Maybe a block from bourbon st, and just a few blocks from the market, and square. Definitely book here for a unique, and lovely experience. Step to the side on stairs to let the ghosts walk by, be polite, and check out the elevator.

A staff member named Bobby (I hope I’m remembering the name correctly) truly made my stay unforgettable. I was feeling very sick during my trip, and he went out of his way to make sure I was okay. He was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, the kind of customer service that touches your heart. He even spoke French, which made me feel even more at ease. The whole team was lovely, but Bobby really stood out. I’m incredibly grateful for his help and care. I totally recommend this place not just for the stay, but for the people who make it feel like home. Merci encore Bobby, je n’oublierai jamais ta gentillesse !
