Guest Reviews
- Mathew (9/5): -
- Katherine Harlow (10/5): Excellent stay - Jeannine on reception was so lovely & amazing to talk to and great value for money! - The lady on the front desk, Jeannine, was super friendly and helpful and gave us an incredibly thorough description of the city, including some maps for each of us - there were 3 of us - and our Basel cards to travel in the city with. We were there for the Euros and she gave us multiple options to get to the stadium when she explained the tram network to us, which was greatly appreciated as it was our first time in the city.
Due to our room not being in the same building as the front desk, she gave us instructions on where to go, how to get in and who to contact if there were issues with the door sticking immediately before where we needed to go to get to our room.
I unfortunately had an issue with my iPad in the evening, as my charging cable broke and the end got stuck in my magic keyboard charging port, which was magnetic and none of the three of us in the room could get it out, so I made my way down to the reception where luckily Jeannine was, this was at 22:45, and this incredible woman managed to prize it out with a pair of pliers. It may seem like such an insignificant thing but I was so grateful as I was starting to panic that I wouldn't be able to charge it and get it working again.
Super friendly lady, had a lovely exchange with her and she even hoped we'd win the Euros - we did - but unfortunately we didn't see her again during our stay and check out to celebrate the good news. Absolutely amazing stay and great value for money for the 3 of us for 4 nights in the centre of Basel - plus perfect location as it was where the English fan zone was for the tournament final! Jeannine deserves a pay rise for real. Didn't need to be better necessarily, but I think we got a little confused on where to go to check in, due to google maps and the actual street giving differing information, adding to our bewilderment.
- Joel (9/5): -
- vijayalakshmi (4/5): - No AC
- Yolanda (6/5): - No AC is the only complaint.
- Beatrice (10/5): - Another fan or a/c would have been really nice, but all in all it was good. Great location and cute apartment with most everything one needs when travelling. Would stay there again! đ
- Sabina (3/5): Hairy first night due to lack of security. Otherwise well appointed rooms. - Clean, and all the basics- comfortable bed, a couple of coffee pods and Tea bags included with sugar and crockery etc in the kitchen. Separate kettle and coffee maker. Excellent, kind , friendly, helpful , efficient staff. No security whatsoever to number 79- the apartment suites - on my first night: I wouldnât recommend this at all for solo travellers, on that basis. The entrance was a random unmanned door on the main road that was ajar at 10pm at night. It looked like the entrance to a crack house. I walked through tentatively not knowing if this was even part of the hotel , due to the lack of signage, but being unable to find any other entrances marked as Hotel Commerce, with the correct street number.
The internal door was also purposely held wide open so that anyone off the street - drug addicts etc- could enter at will at any time of the night with no security to stop them and the room doors were then accessible to all from the staircase and lift immediately after the open doors. In the room, there was no visible latch either. The cleaners were able to open the door without obstruction the following morning despite my having turned the inside lock. I was shocked this place was on Booking.com, given the lack of security. I didnât feel safe at all that first night and didnât sleep well . I would have changed hotels if it hadnât been after 10pm, when the reception was closed of the main building.
Because I arrived after 10pm, understandably I had to do a self check in, which I expected. (The lovely receptionist explained the following day that she had waited for me past the time I said I was due, to no avail, as I had a delayed flight and unexpected dinner before getting to the hotel).
Unfortunately,The self check in terminal is effectively on the street. All your personal information is displayed on a large screen that any passer-by can read/ photograph etc while passing- your name, address, passport/ID number and eventually your room number, in the age of identity fraud , this seemed really unecessary, when a self checkin on your phone would be simpler before collecting the key card from the terminal.
- Anders (8/5): Great price worthy stay - A great apartment for stay during a little more than a week. The kitchen meant I could have a few meals home which saved both money and time. It was large enough and even though there was no luxury, it had everything I needed for a great stay. The proximity to Messe Basel with several tram lines made it easy to access.
- Max (9/5): Superb -
- Anja (10/5): Exceptional - very satisfied with the service, kindness, cleanliness. The apartment was cleaned and towels changed every day. The location is really excellent, it is close to the center and the airport. The tram to the center stops in front of the building itself.
- Aleksandra (9/5): Very good - The receptionist was very kind , comfortable room good beds , clean bathroom The floor a bit cleaner. The dining room table has sticky surface even after thorough cleaning.
- Renato (6/5): - Overall looks ok. But a little inconvenient that the reception of the hotel is located a block away. Some issues with the unit I stayed, the dishwasher doesnât work, the remote control of the TV had no battery and the coffee machine wasnât working properly. The main entrance door is a bit tricky to open. But putting these inconveniences aside, it was a good experience.
- Valérie (10/5): parfait - tres bon accueil
appartement tres bien situé et tres confortable
- Yentruoc96 (7/5): Good - Good location with easy transport connections. The staff were beyond lovely, really a credit to the hotel. Jeannine was really helpful especially and friendly, her attitude meant we had a wonderful start to our break. The sofa bed was very noisy and uncomfortable - it is perhaps time to replace it. We did find the cleanliness to be a bit lacking - a couple of cockroaches were found and while surfaces were all clean/linen clean, details like under the beds weren't clean. It could do with just a good deep clean here and there.
- Denka (10/5): Exceptional - I liked everything - the apartment is spacious and comfortable, it has everything you need for a pleasant stay, it is cleaned every day, towels are changed every day. Everything is at the required level. It is located close to the airport, and there are public transport stops literally in front of the hotel. The reception staff is very kind and ready to helpful. The hotel has underground parking, which makes it very convenient if you have rented a car. I have no complaints.
- Debby (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (7/5): Functional budget friendly accomodation - It would be a good location except the tram line out the front was dug up whilewere there here meaning instead of a 1minute walk it was a 10 minute walk to get the tram to the old city. Once the road/tram line works is completed it will be great. Future guest should check this prior to booking.
The bathroom was updated and clean, the washer dryer was a really useful addition. The apartment furniture and kitchen was tired, with cupboard doors hanging off hinges. The freezer was over frozen so the door didn't close properly. A bit of minor maintenance would have changed this impression.
The room was clean but lacked decoration so gave the impression of functionality over comfort.
- Ina (8/5): Very good -
- Achmad (10/5): awesome - clean and spacious
- Marc (9/5): Superb -
- Kathryn (10/5): - Quiet, comfortable apartment conveniently located. Access to all the sites in Basel are easily accessable, either on foot or using the trams stops just steps away. The apartment was spacious and included all the necessary amenities. We particularly appreciated the in-suite laundry after being on the road for some time. Check-in was easy and the staff were very nice and extremely helpful. As eating out in Basel can quickly add up in cost, the kitchen and nearby grocery store were convenient. Highly recommend!
- Jonathan (6/5): A good place to stay - The place was decent. Nothing special but good value for the price. It has advertised a rooftop terrace which I thought was private. It turns out it was just a shisha bar located on the roof of one of the buildings that contained the hotel. The property is spread across a number of buildings stretching down the street. We also had an issue with our keys one night when we came back they would get us into the building but not into the room. Had to go to reception and call someone to sort it out. Thankfully they have spare keys that can be retrieved after hours if needed.
- Kilroy (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms were large and very clean. The tram stops were very close making it super easy to travel anywhere. There were a lot of very nice restaurants and a market within walking distance
- Meier (8/5): Very good -
- Vishal (8/5): Very good -
- Orlando (10/5): - The apartment was very confortable. Large bathroom. Good kitchen. Good location. We like the daily housekeeping. Also the fact that have the refrigerator, iron and hair drier was very convinient.
- Fee (8/5): Overall , we had a good stay , helpful reception staff even different every time. Good location. - Breakfast very basic. Tea & coffee provided . We had to ask for more especially little milk cups .
Very good location , close to Congress Centre to attend conference Perhaps a microwave oven for quick fix meal .
- Dorothee (6/5): - Wir hatten einen angenehmen Aufenthalt.
- Guro Evensen (8/5): Alt man trenger - Fint og rent, bra service. Gratis lading i parkeringsvarsler!
- Eleanor (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (9/5): Superb - All was fine Nothing
- Yee (9/5): Superb - The apartment is big and comfortable, complete with all amenities.
The common washing machine and dryer for residence' use is certainly a plus point. There was no staff on duty on a sun when we checked in, so the entire process was a little confusing for us. This is especially so when the apartment is located a distance away from the hotel. There is also a flight of stairs to the entrance of the residence apartment which is a little inconvenient given the luggage we had.
- Joshua (7/5): Good -
- Marius (10/5): very chic - the apartament is located 700 m near the center of Basel, if you want a clean accommodation, you should definitely try this property!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Veraltet, teilweise funktionen gewisse Ausstattung nicht
- Dee (10/5): Excellent accommodation and amazing staff - 5* - The accommodation was perfect for us. Clean and comfortable, with a HUGE shower, and such a bonus to have a fridge, freezer and microwave. I must especially mention the lady on reception - she could not have been more helpful with local knowledge, suggestions, vouchers to use the trans for free and her English was impeccable. We would certainly stay here again.
- Jau (8/5): - Washing, tumble dryer, very nice hostess, nice location.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not as on the booking--avoid - Very seldom leave negative reviews however i am really annoyed about this hotel. Booked a large apartment. Described as city views with 2 single beds and a sofa bed. What i got was a cramped small attic room with limited windows and no city view. They had changed my room also from what I had booked to a smaller one with only 1 single bed and a sofa which I had to use as as the second bed for my son resulting in a cramped room as picture. I complained at the time and after. I was advised that my room had been offered to a larger family and the hotel failed to see the relevance that i had actually booked a bigger room. Was also advised that none of the rooms are city view despite the description. Will not be back and avoid this hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Inflexible hotel - We would have needed to cancel our travel plans due to coronavirus, but the property did not show even the slightest flexibility.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location was very good and the check-in and out went smoothly once you figure it out.
- Daniela (10/5): - They are very convenient, well located, well equipped and cozy apartments. I appreciate the professionalism of the staff and the service offered by the them. Iâm grateful and I am planning to comeback every time possible
- stephen (10/5): Space, Service, Location - Great balance of the comfort and space of an Apartment with the service of a hotel room!
- Al (8/5): - A nice apartment at a quiet area during weekend. Large space can fit 5-6 people. No air-conditioning. Lift to upper floors is available. Cooking utensils are furnished. However, cutlery set is not provided. Funny. Overall is okay.
- Dominic (8/5): - good apt, washing machine and dryer, kettle, coffe machine, kicthen, all nice pluses, beds were pull outs and stow aways which were reasonable but not fancy, overall not bad
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect Stay for Us Family of 5 - Our stay was amazing the reception staff was really helpful, they provided us with unlimited travel pass in Basel for our stay. Our apartment was clean and had everything we needed for our stay would definitely recommend this place very close to transportation and in a nice area with bars and shopping only 5 minutes away.
- Rebecca (6/5): NOISE - Room was on the second floor facing a busy street over a bistro. There was a major renovation being done on the building two feet away, and another building being demolished two buildings away on the other side of our room. Noise beginning at 7am ending at 5pm was unbelievable. Room was OK, however both beds were actually Murphy beds, and there was no room for the kitchen stools as the beds were open by the counter. Nice appointed kitchen and bathroom. Very close to transportation. Wouldâve rated it much higher IF they had been honest about the noise BEFORE we arrived. Probably would not have stay there had we known. Luckily it was only a two night stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room adequate but stay ruined by constant noise from workmen in next building & demolition gang 2 doors away. Drilling started at 7 am each day & they worked weekends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I didn't give a perfect rating to this facility because units don't have A/C system and it was extremely warm when we were there. They provide fans, but it's not enough during warm temperature days.
- Brian (8/5): - Nice apartment in a good location! Desk staff very friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English! No AC so we really appreciated the two large fans as apartment was quite warm. We were on top floor and it was +30C outside! Also, skylight windows opened up! Nice outside patio for late evening relaxingđ
- Lynn M. (8/5): Great location and very comfortable apartment - This hotel/apartment was perfect for our family of three for a night in Basel before heading to the Swiss Alps. We were able to walk to shops and restaurants easily from the apartment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. Clean. Front desk personnel very helpful.
- Zita (10/5): Highly recommend - The Residence was excellent, spotless, and the staff was wonderful. I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel.
- William (10/5): - Great hotel and service in heart of city
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Couldn't fault it. Worked for us. Was in a good spot. Good overall experience
- Roberta L. (4/5): Office Staff NOT helpful - The first night I called the front desk because the TV was not working. They said maintenance was gone for the day and it would have to wait until tomorrow. The next day we went out for the day sightseeing. Upon our return at dinner time we checked the TV and it was still not working. I called the front desk and they said they were busy checking in guests but would try to send someone. NO ONE ever showed. Also the washing machine/dryer didn't work and we ended up having to pack wet clothes. Don't think I will use this place again.
- Renee L. (4/5): Disappointed - The TV did not work so we called the front desk and they said they would send someone to fix it the next day. When we got back to the room the next day the TV was still not working so we called the front desk and they said they were too busy and would try and come later, which they never did. So no TV the entire time we were there. Also the dryer did not work in the washer dryer combo. I am sure there are better places in Basel to stay at!
- Fiona (8/5): Studio Apartment close to historical Barrocks - Our studio apartment was a good size. The full kitchen and large bathroom was nice. Very close to tram stop and the Barrocks to enjoy the annual Basel Tattoo. Close to a Migros for food purchases and the dry bags needed for the swim down the Rhine. Restaurants located downstairs were convenient especially if you arrive at the apartment hungry. We had a very pleasant stay in Basel. Thank you.
- Kathleen (6/5): Full size is not queen size - It was fine except for 2 things: quite a noisy neighborhood on main road, so had to keep the windows closed. Plus the queen sized sofa bed was more like full sized and the comforter too, so it was uncomfortable for the two sleeping in that bed.
- Kate (8/5): Not as described - My booking said 2 bedrooms, it was only one with 3 of the beds in the main living area.
- judhit (10/5): Perfect for families. - Stayed with two young children and the appartment was the perfect solution. Clean, warm, fully equipped kitchen, supermarket just around the corner and so easy to get to the train station/old town due to the incredibily efficient (and free) public transport.
- Jo (10/5): - Location of the Hotel is very convenient from main transport like Euro airport, trams and main railway line, Basel Bannhoff.
the hotel is very clean and staff are very helpful and friendly. They even went on extra mile by giving a birthday card to my mother.
- Prassanee (10/5): The apartment is so good, suit for long stay. - We are 4 people and stay only 1 night. Kitchen are fully equipped and perfect for cooking. There is 1 fan which is good for air flow when you close the window. The sofa bed is quite comfortable for 2 small people. The bathroom is wide, clean and shower is very good. There is a washing machine which perfect for long stay. The staff are very good have a service mind and so enthusiastic. Location is good near tram station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great, clean, friendly, close to everything - The hotel was amazing! The staff walked us to our room since it was just a few doors down from the main hotel. The room was clean and had a washer and dryer. Very comfortable accommodations - queen bed and 2 singles. Full kitchen. Great location right next to the tram to take you anywhere in Basil. Can't recommend it enough. Big relaxing bath. Pictures don't do it justice.
- Theodora (8/5): Apartment in Basel - Good deal for 1 night stay. We are a family of 4 so it was a bit too tight. Kitchen and washing machine were helpful features. For single traveller or couple, this can save money. The check in is on the other hotel.
- Sarah (10/5): AMAZING APARTMENT - a FABULOUS apartment. Very spacious Very clean. Great location. Incredibly friendly check in staff. Very easy to find the hotel to check into. Facilities were incredible. Just such a fantastic apartment. If i returned to Basel i would most definitely book in here again!!!
- Richard (10/5): Spacious, well located and well-equipped apartment - A really lovely apartment at the top of a renovated building equipped to a very high standard. TV, dishwasher, espresso machine, washing machine, good shower, etc.
We only stayed 1 night, but this would be comfortable for stays of weeks.
The minor issue regarding comfort is that it is too warm in the apartment to sleep with the windows closed, but too noisy in the streets outside (at least at the weekend) to sleep with them open, so we didn't have our best night's sleep. However, fans are provided.
Note that keys must be collected from the nearby Hotel du Commerce, but this is was not mentioned in any of the booking or itinerary details, so we spent some time wandering around with suitcases trying to work out how to gain entry to the apartment.
The hotel staff were absolutely brilliant and helpful, insisting on giving a personal tour of the apartment.
Breakfast is available at the hotel and is of a very high quality.
- MountainEater (10/5): Remarkable space and quality for the price - The apartments are perfectly situated at a 10 minute walk from the centre of town and immediately adjacent to the large conference centre. Public transport runs right outside your door and driving in from the airport takes only 15 minutes or so. The apartment we stayed in was well equipped with a large bathroom, king size bed, fully functional kitchen including all white goods you might want and a coffee maker. It isn't the Ritz, but the rooms provided feel like a very comfortable, modern flat with lots of space - especially for the price. Highly recommended.
- Cybernev (10/5): Excellent accomodation in central location - Our stay was most enjoyable. The accomodation was of a great standard as was the location. We have children and this is a good option for families who need space and comfort holiday with wifi and tram travel all included, a real treat!
- Saufi (10/5): Best and very close to the train - I am more than happy staying in the apt. The staff is really helpful and they answered the phone because apt have to get the key from hotel office. We really enjoy staying there.
