Guest Reviews
- Kenneth (10/5): all good - Food was very good with good service No problems
- Christina (9/5): - Warm room in pub. Caring hosts. Shower bit feeble, but understand this is historic listed property.
- Lynn (8/5): Clean and warm good food - Very good
- Julie (8/5): Lovely stay! Evening meals were fantastic and all home made! Nice couple owners who were very attentive. - Lovely room with large TV . Old building with no double glazing but not much traffic
- David (10/5): - Very friendly, food excellent, room and bed very comfortable Nothing, it was all good.
- Lawrence Nigel (7/5): -
- Eastwood (9/5): -
- Lutwyche (9/5): Very nice old pub - The room was large and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and modern, lovely shower.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. Freshly cooked, good choice on the Dinner menu. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. It could do with some shelves in the bathroom to put toiletries on.
There are no opening times on the website, which would have been useful.
- Gemma (8/5): A lovely pub delicious home made food in a little village .. peaceful just lovely - The food was delicious thank you It doesn’t look as nice from the outside as the inside but it was a lovely pub … the mattress was quite hard but that’s only preference
- Emmanuelle (8/5): Ideal place for me to stay. Great location.Very clean - Great location. Very clean. Comfortable. Tea and coffee and biscuits in the room. TV and internet.
A warm welcome. You can eat homemade hearty food in the pub, which is very comfortable. Dark bathroom but it was OK. It was exceptionally clean and that is all that matters to me!
- Tori (5/5): Not the friendliest stay - Clean bedrooms, breakfast very good Didn't feel particularly welcoming, place is tired and dated, extremely noisy macerator toilet in ensuite
- Joe (9/5): A lovely quiet spot within easy reach of the lakes and the coast. - We went to the Warton nature reserve in the afternoon before checking in - really happy to find that we were literally just round the corner! Blackberries on the bushes (delicious) and a lovely walk around the old quarry. Breakfast in the morning was a three-course epic - just right before setting out into the lake district later in the day. Parking was perfect, and the hosts friendly. Being fussy the bed was a little hard and the light around the doorway from the hallway light at night. But that is all - it was clean, tidy, quiet and great value. Thank you!
- John (8/5): -
- Ruth (10/5): Great value homely Inn for a short break. - Great location in a quiet village near Carnforth. Comfortable clean room. Historic building. Good home cooked breakfast. Excellent menu choices for evening meal. Friendly helpful hosts Nothing to dislike
- Lee (10/5): -
- Ellen (9/5): Superb - Such a welcome from the hosts. Traditional pub with a homely charm. Everything was positive.
- David (7/5): Good - Traditional pub, friendly staff and great homemade food.
There one night on our way to Scotland
- Eileen (8/5): Recommended M6 overnight stopover - We chose this hotel primarily for its location ie just off the M6 and it proved to be an excellent overnight stop. We were made very welcome and the atmosphere was very hospitable generally. We had an evening meal which was very good and served up by a very cheery member of staff! Parking is great. While the room seemed to have been recently refurbished the bathroom had possibly been overlooked. The fan was struggling and the strip light over the sink was fused but proprietor was quick to pick up on these things when raised with him.
- Allison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Severine (8/5): Great value for money in a good location - Great location for what we wanted, minutes away from Warton Crag reserve, close to Silverdale, Arnside and Leighton Moss. Free car park at the back, home cooked evening meals available, English breakfast included, friendly owners and comfortable room, we will happily go back. N/A
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (9/5): I'll be back .... - Warm welcome, owners want to help Earlier light breakfast would suit us divers at weekend
- Helen (7/5): Good - Very pleasant staff and made welcome. A human amswered the phone ... no menu system... no voicemail... very refreshing. Owners lovely and went aboth and beyond to make sure we were looked after. Front of hotel needs an update... picnic tables umbrellas even a sign saying open and everyone welcome. First impression is not what you receive once inside... missing passing trade because outside does not shout welcone.
- Mike (8/5): Village pub.worth a stay - Lovely village pub location and the home made steak and Stilton pie was absolutely delicious. The kitchen girl/waitress was a credit to the pub. Shortage of sockets in my room and the room might benefit from a spruce up at Somme stage.
- Mark (8/5): Good place to stay - Good room, comfortable bed and good food WiFi patchy
- London65 (9/5): Well renovated and maintained 300 year old building - The owners are keeping everything spotless: the pub and the bedrooms were very clean.
Our room was nicely furnished, the bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet during the night (looking out onto the garden).
The cooked breakfast was good. I missed not having croissants or fruit. There were only cereals and toast to accompany the English breakfast.
The bed was on the firm side, which I like. The water pressure in the shower was adequate, but not strong enough for the rain shower, which is installed. I took the shower head instead and it was fine.
- Jennifer (8/5): overnight stay at the George Washington - location was fine, staff very nice, breakfast & evening meal were good, friendly bar area and good parking. It was good for our overnight stay .competative price room was dated, could have been improved although clean & tidy. Lighting was poor in the room which made it difficult to read anything, also old bits of furniture on the landing area which just didn't give a good impression
- Brian (8/5): great location with comfortable rooms - breakfast was great
- Paul (8/5): Perfect - Good location for en route stopover on M6.
Lovely old pub with quiet room and modern en suite.
- Karen (8/5): Nice stay. - Plenty of parking. The room was clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it was good value for money. Staff very friendly. Not much in the area
- Emy (10/5): Exceptional - Very welcoming cosy Inn with excellent supper and breakfast. Our room was big and comfortable. The staff were great. Thanks to all.
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sue (9/5): A pleasant stay in a good location. - Spacious room. Shower over bath - walk in shower would have suited us better.
- Nicola (7/5): Nice little find. - Easy going and quiet atmosphere, clean, comfortable beds, good value with a pleasant full English breakfast. What you might expect staying in a pub, but noise from the bar area carried into the bedroom well after midnight. Luckily, I brought ear plugs.
- Arthur (9/5): Characterful and comfortable - Historic coaching house which has been tastefully modernised in the bedroom & ensuite
The price included an excellent cooked breakfast
Nearby nature reserve
Helpful advice about catching a train to Grange over Sands
Large secure car park
Close to the M6
Peaceful village Only one thing... I chose curry for the evening meal but it turned out to be a bit too spicy for my taste!
- Dennis (8/5): Good pub, nice rooms and lovely food. - Good location which is convenient for the M6. Good bar with lots of choices of drinks and the dinner and breakfast were great. All freshly cooked and very tasty! Room 1 was large, with a huge bathroom. Large bath and good shower. Nothing really to complain about. A half hour slot for breakfast and 10am checkout may not suit all, but it was fine for us
- Sharon (9/5): Would have loved to have stayed longer as we love the Carnforth countryside & would be very happy to keep eating the - Our room was stunning & the bed very comfortable. Everyone so friendly. Food was all home cooked & amazing. Just remember to put mat or towel on the floor when getting out of the shower
- Ronald (9/5): Superb - Good size room. Friendly staff. Shower cubicle was small.
- Christina (9/5): Warm and welcoming - Comfy quiet cool room. Excellent pub dinner. Very friendly staff A bit more water flow in shower would be nice, but understand this is a listed building, and everything else is grat.
- Lynn (10/5): Sat night stay - What a lovely place to stay, quality room nicely decorated confortable, clean, run by nice people, great breakfast. Who definitely reccomens and will go back
- Terry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Thomas (5/5): Passable -
- Raymond (10/5): Exceptional - Met by a man think he was the landlord. He took our luggage to our room and gave us a warm welcome. Excellent breakfast. Nothing.
- Philip (7/5): Good -
- Carolyn (9/5): Lovely country pub - Great location and value for money.
Cosy pub with an open fire too.
Delicious breakfast with local ingredients which made it extra special. On a weekend it would have been nice to have a later breakfast service i.e up until 10 am.(8.30 to 9 am is a little restricted).
- Arlene (7/5): Good -
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): Could be a bit friendlier but they work so hard in a tough business business - Where it’s situated Needs some TLC
- Roy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Fantastic hosts, perfect accommodation, great food & drink, friendly locals. Will be back! - Everything was great. Proper home cooked, fresh food. Takes a bit longer to prepare as you'd expect for made to order meals. The room and bathroom was huge with a very comfortable bed. All spotlessly clean. The pub had a good atmosphere with lots of friendly locals in there. Drinks were great - plenty of real ale to choose from and cocktails too. Thankyou both for a great stay.
I've noticed "Peter" has left a bad review saying he had no toilet roll, we had plenty! We bumped into him a couple of times and I'm not surprised he's a solo traveller. Obnoxious, rude, entitled - take his review with a pinch of salt. Everything was spot on for us.
- Peter (3/5): Most disappointing. Way overpriced. Cold and no toilet paper. - Breakfast was good Room was cold with no heating.
There was no toilet paper in the room toilet.
How on earth can you get that wrong? They did.
- Alison (8/5): It was a one night stopover and it was fine. Evening meal and breakfast good - The staff were lovely Bed was bit lumpy
- Robert (8/5): Very good. - Friendly. Very helpful and obliging staff. I was given a lift to Carnforth station by the landlord when no taxi was available. I stayed on the Saturday night of a bank holiday weekend and this seemed to inflate the price considerably above what the room/facilities are actually worth. There was nothing wrong with them, but I would expect more for thte price paid.
- Ailsa (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the whole atmosphere
- Julie (7/5): Good - Great clean hotel, will book again when visiting family
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Jean (9/5): Great place for overnight stop - Friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere.
Walk to viewpoint just round the corner
- Graham (6/5): Pleasant -
- Daniel (10/5): A comfortable stay with lovely hosts - The couple that ran the pub were fantastic hosts! The pub itself had a great atmosphere - not too rowdy and not too quiet, just right. Lovely locals and very welcoming. The breakfast was great, good ingredients and well cooked, we were just sad that we didn’t get to sample the other food as we heard good things from the locals!
The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable, we slept very well. Nothing to complain about
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Sherryn (8/5): James and his team are very friendly and made us feel most welcome. - Breakfast and dinner were both of a high standard. Delicious traditional homemade food cooked from scratch and very tasty. We found James and his team extremely helpful, with a good local knowledge of the area. Perhaps more sockets in the room for charging phones/laptop etc.
- Robert (8/5): A delightful welcoming inn - This is a delightful pub in a quiet village which joins on to Carnforth. On arrival after a stressful journey I was taken up to my room which was a nice touch. I chose to spend the evening in the bar where I had an excellent meal washed down with some superb ales. The locals in the bar were very welcoming and I enjoyed my evening here.
I was very comfortable overnight and there was an excellent freshly cooked breakfast for me in the morning.
- Hannah (9/5): Enjoyed our stay - Staff were lovely, room spotlessly clean, breakfast was great Could of done with more milks in the room but we didn't ask for extra as we were shy, so our fault
- Gareth (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Good honest pub with accommodation and food - Stayed one night only. The room was comfortable. Even though the heating was not on due to it supposedly being summer, as the room was a little cold we were able to turn on an electric wall heater to take the chill off the room & a blow heater in the bathroom.
The quality and pricing of food and drink in the bar were excellent. The cooked breakfast was included, which was also delicious. Would definitely stay again.
- I W L (8/5): Good for gluten free - Well looked after - especially with regard to gluten free requirements
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Nice location and friendly pub with good food and a great breakfast. Nothing
- Malcolm (8/5): Very good -

- Fran (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was excellent.
- Joan (7/5): Good - The food was good. The owners and the young lady waitress were very pleasant and helpful. Had a good night's sleep. Fine for a one nights stay. The room was small and a bit tired and requires attention to detail..
- Nigel (10/5): Very enjoyable will definitely be going again. - Great service, very friendly staff and a warm welcome, the food was freshly cooked and piping hot with a great choice. A nice warm open fire welcomes you when you have been out all day and a great selection of drinks available from the bar. No bad points very happy with our stay.

- Simon (9/5): An enjoyable stay, would recommend to others - Very friendly and welcoming hosts with an open fire and lovely vibe in the bar - a filling breakfast which set us up for a days walk over to Arnside. Great location which provides a useful gateway to the South Lakes. Very easy to park.
- Jane (8/5): Very good -

Lots of interesting local history related to the Inn. We’ll definitely be back when we return to Capernwray.
- Hamish (8/5): Loved the place . It’s fairly basic but good value and , as I said, nice people. - Great service, excellent home cooked food , liked the Landlord and his wife… decent hard working people. Bit of maintenance could be dealt with, minor stuff.
