Guest Reviews
- Osiah (10/5): - this not a 5 star hotel but it is good, all we needed for an overnight stop, passing through. no complaints.
- Michelle (2/5): - Horrible
- Raymond (2/5): - Dirty bandaid stuck to the wall, no hot water, room smelled of mould. It’s worth the extra drive to New Liskeard.
- Anne (4/5): - There was no shower towels the fridge wasn’t working, there was no coffee machine in the room or even continental breakfast. we ask for some towels never got them so yeah not very please
- mike (2/5): - Lady at desk talked on phone while trying to check us .we purchased something for 2.95 told us price was wrong tried to charge us 6.99.rooms were not up to expedia standard.will never use this motel again
- Don (8/5): - Ok
- Lynda (4/5): - This place is in need of major up dates..had a hole rusted right through the bathroom sink. Bed was comfortable, stayed one night. Left early morning skipped the shower in the avacado green bathtub.
- STEPHEN (10/5): - Property is rundown and in very poor condition. Amenities are very outdated and or missing
- Nancy (4/5): - Location was good. When we arrived the motel office, store and restaurant was closed. We had to find somewhere to eat until it was opened. The same happened when we left next morning. Everything was closed. This property needs and update badly. Lots of potential there.
- Peter (2/5): - This place should be demolished. The only redeeming thing was that the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Noisiest bathroom fan I have ever heard. Quality of maintenance is absolutely terrible.
- Michelle (6/5): - I needed a motel for a week at a time, and chose this one because it was the bigger of only two in Englehart. It is old and very basic - but the bed was comfortable and the room was fairly quiet, despite the motel being on the highway through town. The shower worked. The motel was reasonably clean. The bathroom walls had some damage from many years of showers, but there was no mould. There was also no in-room coffee maker nor was there a blow-dryer, so the second time I stayed, I brought those.
- Joseph (8/5): - Friendly staff
- James (2/5): - Guys did their best . But beds are 50 years old and worn out ! Horrible .
- patricia (6/5): - There is no continental breakfast but had restaurant attached to hotel. BUT... when i ordered fluffy pancakes like the picture, I recieved 3 small frozen put in the mocrowave pancakes i ordere
- Ashton (2/5): - Owner asked again for my credit card information even though everything was pre-paid. The room was freezing cold and the water pressure temp was really bad
- Lorne J (6/5): budget friendly but poorly maintained - Room was clean (enough) but poorly maintained and very dated. Tap in tub dripped all night, bathroom fan vent cover hanging by one screw, sink had a hole rusted completely through, shower curtain ripped, etc. View from room -- not spectacular
- Pavel (6/5): - Not a very clean place. Internet and TV did not work for some time.
Not well kept.
- Bright (2/5): - towels had stains on them.
- Robbie (2/5): - They wouldn't clean the room until I was there for 4 days and then I had to request it after the 4 days. They wouldn't give me a towel for showering. They said only 1 towel every 3 days. It was a run down and dirty place.
- Chris (8/5): - Could be a bit more modern with appliances in the room
- Bradley (6/5): It was fine. - Not a bad stay on balance. I was worried when we checked in as a hole in the sink had been patched with what looked like industrial tape, our bathroom fan didn't work and it was dark in there with 1 of 2 bulbs functional, and we had no hot water. Or at least we didn't think we had hot water. It turns out you just have to run the tap for 15-20 minutes to get the hot water running. LITERALLY. We also only had 1 towel and no extra toilet paper. It was eco-friendly, but I think it was a budget decision rather than an attempt to make the world more sustainable. That being said, the beds were comfortable, even if the room was a little cold, even with the thermostat cranked. My Dad installed a fake thermostat for me at home as a child so I'm actually used to that touch of home. Anyway, we slept well and although we weren't quiet, the hotel generously left us enjoy our gathering into the early hours of the morning.
Breakfast at the restaurant was alright. I didn't read the description of the western omelet, so I had what amounted to scrambled eggs with bits of broccoli in it. No ham. Coffee was $6, and they charged us for an extra $6 coffee when we filled our thermos for softball. That felt a little punitive.
The front desk was responsive to requests and we about an hour late checking out, but they kindly let that go for us. Staff were generally helpful but deadpan. Honestly, I'll probably come back. I'm a sucker for a familiar place.
Cheers!
- Annabelle (2/5): - Room was overall just dirty. The sheets were covered in what looked like old blood with hairs everywhere in the bed.
- Jean (4/5): - Very old amenities. Old bathtub. Soft bed, not well made up. Dust and dirt evident. No phone nor hair dryer. WI-FI was good. Fridge obstructing the door. Microwave operates on light switch. Very dated.
- Stephen (4/5): Should be a 1-star - One of the diviest places we've ever stayed. No second lock on the door. Terrible mattress. No coffee machine. No screen on the window. Two hand towels, one washcloth and one tiny bath towel. Old blue tub with chips in it. Golden yellow upper tub.
Should be a one star.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Done - I was unable to cancel my stay and they refused to refund the payment. It was not even in the area I was staying so I don’t know why it came up as a possibility when it wasn’t even in the area I was staying. (78km away. I am done with this app.
- Andrew (8/5): - Good stay.
- David (2/5): - The room was discusting. There were ants in the room and my wife got bit. Took like 5 minutes to get hot water. The smoke alarm was hanging open with no battery. The staff were incompetent and not helpful.
- steve (4/5): - Very poor cleaning of the bathroom. Fresh towels and linens but couldn't take a shower as it has soap left on the porcelain tub
- Jeremy (10/5): - All of the staff was amazing, extremely welcoming and accommodating always willing to make sure you have what you need and are comfortable.
- Jonathan (2/5): - The town and the area around the town is very scenic and nice, hotel was terrible, though. I will never go back there again, The hot and cold was plumbed in backwards on the shower, There was mystery stains everywhere, The lawn was not cut or kept up and garbage all around the door entering the hotel room, And there is also some kind of weird funk smells. In the day time the staff was airing out mattresses outside the hotel.
- Carol (2/5): - Dirty, run down, smells, rusty sink
- Kenneth (8/5): - I have stayed at this property several times in recent years and had concerns on each occasion. During my recent two day I was very satisfied with my room and service at the front desk. Our beds were clean and very comfortable and all the appliances worked perfectly. I will stay again in the future. At 7:50 a.m. I tried to get into the main office to check out and drop off my key, however, the door was locked. I would suggest the front desk should be open at that time.
- Pierre (6/5): - Bathroom had mold on the baseboard
- Deborah (2/5): - NothingcI have pictures to show how dirty it was cannot take pictures of the awful Smell!
Theres a mobile Tatoo bus at the rooms entrance!?
- Christopher (2/5): Not for faint of heart - Fallen down and beaten up
- Barbara (6/5): - The only thing was it was very dated rooms the shower was not working and neither was the thermostat but they did provide a heater wich was very nice resteraunt breakfast was good
- Wes (2/5): Run away. Or keep driving! Do not stop here. - I was driving a moving truck and trailer across country and stopped here for a night. My first experience was getting stuck in the mud that they call a parking lot. One other customer told me he was stuck earlier in the day, but managed to get himself out with four wheel drive. When I told the hotel owner that I was stuck, he offered me half a bag of salt and said that’s how they got out the moving truck that was stuck last week. He said he didn’t have a phone number for a tow truck, and walked away leaving me stuck in the middle of the lot.
Thanks a lot. Great customer service.
The room: the bathtub and sink were pretty rusty and the whole room was very outdated. Half the night, I heard kids running and yelling in the hallway. I was also woken up several times by yelling and arguing somewhere around. Like others have said the owner seemed to be pushing me to visit the restaurant and cared more about it than the motel. Having seen my room, I wouldn’t dare eat in the restaurant.
I contacted a local garage in the morning, got a tow and left. If customers are getting stuck in areas of your parking lot wouldn’t you rope that area off? Or put up some pylons?
- Michael (2/5): Englehart Inn/Hotel - The hotel is very dated. It smells, it is an old, tired motel. We walked into the room and it was like a sauna, the heat didn't shut off. I was ready to faint so we asked the front desk manager to give us our money back and we weren't going to stay. They wouldn't so we have to contact hotels.ca. don't stay there!
- Mark (2/5): - The property is or should be below Expedia minimum standards. I dealt with unfair business practices accompanied by a substandard facility, staff and cleanliness. I wouldn’t stay again at half the price.
- Donna (10/5): - Might be dated but clean comfortable and friendly! Great choice for budget
- John (6/5): Just OK - The owners have owned the place about 6 months and seem more concerned with the rest. & bar morer than the rooms . They were "reluctantly" helpful when I needed a plug for the vehicle block heater ( Temp. -32 C ) in order to start my diesel next morning .None of the exterior plugs on the building worked. Room was clean and warm but a coffee maker would be nice . Friendly nice people but need some business training ?? and some upkeep.
- Nina (8/5): - Would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room.
Other than that, room was ok, it was quiet.
- joanna (6/5): - The room was clean and quiet but very run-down with a super uncomfortable bed.
- Rick (2/5): - The restaurant (the one in their picture) was closed on a Tuesday night, despite what was advertised. I had to drive 5 minutes up the road to a subway for the nights meal. So not what I was looking for. The bedding was soiled, the rooms were shabby with trim falling off, carpet curling, marks on the paint. The mattresses were of the lowest quality and collapsed when you sat on them.
- Edith (2/5): - Pictures on Expedia are very misleading. Ratings are horribly inflated!
We had been travelling since 4:30 A:M, and arrived at 9:30 P:M in pouring rain.
The attendant at check in and his buddy hanging out in the lobby were friendly enough, nice little convenience store.
But that’s about where it ended!
Others have mentioned feeling uneasy about parking their vehicle, the long creaky hallways, noisy rooms etc. well it’s all true. I worried about our truck all night not being able to see it at all. We were travelling across Canada and absolutely could not have anything happen to it.
When we entered out “King room” (we splurged) to be hit in the face with stale cigarette smell lingering in the room.
As I made a couple trips to the truck to collect our things, I got completely soaked.
The room was freezing cold, like chill to the bone cold. We tried to turn the register up but it was already to the max heat setting. To no avail as the boilers were obviously not turned on yet!
I thought a hot shower would help, after 10 minutes of the hot tap on full blast the water did not even make it to Luke warm!
We huddled together under 3 blankets and after a few hours of rest, we gave up and were headed down the road before 6:30 A:M.
The hot coffee and egg McMuffins at North Bay 2 hours later were amazing! (Another discrepancy by the way, it is not 37 miles to North Bay from the Englehart Inn) perhaps this should be corrected?
- Tammy (8/5): Retro hotel - Great customer service
- Reg (10/5): - Very satisfied. Would recommend others to stay with you.
- Keenen (10/5): - Nice little place
- Tamara (4/5): - My trip was planned knowing that I would be arriving late, so the fact that there was a restaurant on site was going to be a huge plus as I know things often shut down early in small towns. When I arrived I found that the restaurant was closed, hadn’t been open and wouldn’t be opening for some time. So I was going to have to go without. The room smelled like baby bodily fluids, spit up, dirty diapers, etc. No ice machine, no conveniences at all, not even a coffee maker!! And I’m pretty sure that the complimentary shampoos were leftovers from previous peoples’ stay -some were half empty while others were full to bulging!!? How could this be I wondered ! The parking lot was sandy gravel which in the rain made a mucky mess! I was looking forward to visiting my mother’s birthplace… this motel cheapened the experience for sure. For the price one would expect at least a decently maintained facility not something so clearly neglected.
- Adam (10/5): - Facility is a bit older and shows a bit of its age. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were exceptional and helpful. Food at the restaurant was well priced and was delicious.
- Rob (8/5): - Close to snowmobile trails. Friendly owner.
- Joshua (8/5): - It was good
- Christopher (8/5): Great value and convenient - Very convenient for work. Lots of trades very polite people
Tons of potential. Looking forward to our next work trip
- Graham (2/5): - This hotel should be condemned.
- Patricia (6/5): - We asked for listings in New Liskeard and ended up booking this. It was NOT New Liskeard so we had to cancel, because we needed to be in New Liskeard. We are out the money because it was non refundable. Not happy and would appreciate a reply to this note. Thank you.
- Eric (6/5): - I lived in Englehart for 8 years, so I knew what to expect. Nothing fancy. Was disappointed though as I had booked a king bed for my wife & I at an extra cost only to be told after I checked in and went to the room to see it was not a king bed, that they only have 1 room with a king bed and the lock was not working on it. Was not told of this when I was checking in and was not offered a rebate for the extra I paid for a king bed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was just a room with a bed. Semi comfortable. No onsite restaurant as advertised. Felt safe with OPP right across the road. It was very quiet for sleeping.
- JOHN (2/5): - Very bad in so many ways
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient, staff very friendly and welcoming. Very economical.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I came home with multiple bites so I'm assuming they have bed bugs as I wasn't outside to have been bitten by mosquitoes.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A bit run down hotel. But no major issues if you travel for hiking or just passing by
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked the location of the motel. It was handy for our visit with family in Englehart. I would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - reach your basic requirement.
- Jeremy (10/5): Friendly staff, convenient location. - Front desk manager was very welcoming. Ordered food from the restaurant through him as well. No complaints!
- Terry (10/5): - Very good service
- Terry (10/5): - Great Service
- Dawn (6/5): - The stay was ok only issue NO coffee maker!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I love the smell of freshly washed laundry and the bed did just that. And very comfortable!!
- Julien (6/5): In need of renovation - It was a typical roadside motel for traveling. Not the cleanest, and quite run down. In need of some good renovations. Matress was decently comfortable. Bathroom was in pretty bad shape.
- Guest (2/5): - Cleanliness was terrible. Staff needs to clean up and be presentable. Rooms was dusty and the sheets questionably
- J (2/5): - Terrible property,rundown and very cold xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- T. (6/5): - Convenient. Staff does respond to late-night arrival phone calls. Very helpful. Kinda run-down. Does accept Expedia reservations or honor Expedia payments...
- Guy (2/5): Am awful experience - The room was not ready when we arrived to the motel. It also took us a half hour to finally talk to someone. We finally entered the dirty room at midnight. The king size bed had queen size sheets. The following evening we found a room that had not been done with no fresh towels available. Never experience such a dis-functional place.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very rundown, amenities were slim to none, step going into hotel was broken and unsafe
- Verified traveler (6/5): - bed sheet missing in one bed only one clean towel
did ask twice for clean towels girl said yes but never delivered new clean had to ask for soap and shampoo
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Stayed two nights and room wasn’t cleaned or towels changed during stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The walkway/stairs were not shovelled & full of ice. The room had scented powder on the rug which was very strong smelling. The room had an extra "family" single bed in it which was not what we booked.
- LARRY (8/5): - Great reception desk, personal greeting, just great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Basic motel shut the lights off and get moving early. Couldn't get any hot water in the shower
- Stephen (2/5): - I was not very happy with my stay. We had one face cloth and one bath mat for two people. No towels. No fitted sheet on the beds just a flat sheet used as a fitted so it was crumpled around you and off the mattress. Bathroom sink leaked water everywhere. The pillows were very dirty.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A good experience. Typical older small town motel. Will stay there again.
- Garth (8/5): - Stayed two nights on business. Dated decor but clean and comfortable. Friendly and accommodating innkeeper. Several restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. Not fancy but good value. Would stay again.
- Chuck (8/5): Nice, simple, motel - We have relatives in the area, and this motel is a nice, cheap, clean place to stay when we are in the area....
Would definitely recommend...
- Honey (10/5): - Excellent
- Kevin (8/5): - This motel is an inexpensive clean hotel with pleasant management. It is worth a visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quaint motel - The motel is right off the highway and gives off a very homey feel to it. Staff are super nice and go out of their way to help you with your needs. If wanting a homemade meal I suggest the restaurant which was amazing. If you forget anything they have a corner store attached as well that has a lot of different things from snack to toiletries. Over all very good hotel to stay.
