Room was great with a fine view of Loch Ryan, and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent. Nothing to dislike. However, it was a 20 minute walk or short drive to get something to eat.

- D9861ISrichardw (10/5): A Gem of a Guest House - We needed a room for a couple of nights to allow us to attend a Memorial function and we really fell on our feet with Thornbank House. Fiona welcomed us warmly and was helpful and attentive throughout. We were grateful for her local knowledge and we found the accommodation comfortable and of a very high standard. The room was spacious and luxurious with a comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Breakfast was ample and well-cooked with plenty of choice. An added bonus was the large swimming pool with spa features which we enjoyed. Factor in the free parking and it represented excellent value too. Highly recommended.
- Guy (9/5): Excellent 2 night stay as a prelude to our ferry crossing to Larne - Everything was excellent The steam room requires removing from the listing as it's no longer available which was a little disappointing
- Mark (10/5): A real treat - The rooms are spotlessly clean, and well equipped with good tv, coffee making facilities, comfy bed, and lovely view out over the loch. The pool and hot tub were also great to have after a long journey. Nothing

She showed us around the swimming pool area, bedroom was lovely and spotless with balcony. The swimming and hot tub were great to use after a long walk. Breakfast was amazing and plenty of choice. - Patricia (10/5): Perfect - Big airy house lots of character Nothing
- hotlyds (10/5): Stranrear Special Stay - Basically can't wait to return to Thornbank House - and we'll definitely be back! We stayed just the 1 night in Feb with our little dog and we didnt want to come home! Next time we'll book 2 nights and make use of the indoor swimming pool and hottub, as they looked very inviting but we ran out of time. We felt so at home and were made so comfortable in our room. I think our room was No.1. It was spacious yet cosy with the best seaview over the lough and back over to the Stena Ferry terminal and Stranrear. The bathroom was beautiful and spotlessly clean with seperate shower and jacuzzi bath. Lovely fresh robes were supplied and plenty of excellent quality towels. The room comes with a small fridge, fresh milk supplied for the tea and coffee on the hospitality tray. Nice to get a couple of wee packs of biscuits too. We were very happy with our room and the stay overall did us the world of good. Big thanks to Fiona for her kind hospitality and her outstanding breakfast. Perfectly prepared and beautifully cooked with quality ingredients. It's been one of the best breakies we've ever had on holiday! Thornbank comes highly recommended. It's a wee gem.
- Bernadette (10/5): Great weekend away - Fiona the host was excellent. Showed us around guest house and to our room which was lovely had everything. Showed us to swimming facilities which was fantastic. Breakfast was amazing from continental to hot Breakfast. We had a balcony room with great sea view. Fiona had everything in room from dressing gowns for going down for a swim. To a bottle of milk in fridge for your tea and coffee. I will definitely be going back to this guest house and Fiona is absolutely a welcoming host. My husband wasn't well when we were away. On the Saturday she offered us a bigger room which also had a single and double bed in it. My husband was so grateful to Fiona for her kindness and appreciation. The room again immaculate and beds so comfortable, he managed to sleep better. Again Fiona 10 out of 10 for everything you offer at Thornbank House, you should be one proud lady. Absolutely loved everything about Thornbank house.

Please note, however, that some people would be very happy at the cosy, warm temperature.
- Irene (10/5): Quiet refreshing break. - Lovely room with gorgeous views from the balcony. Breakfast was amazing with super fresh produce. Enjoyed our time in jacuzzi too. This is exactly what we needed a quiet refreshing break. Thanks to Fiona for her excellent hosting.

This place is a hidden gem. The host takes pride in bringing you into her property on arrival, during your stay and the breakfast to go. Its deffo the nicest place we have stayed in 25 years of going away at weekends. The facilities are 2nd to none, all private and spotless. The pool is a jewel on the crown addition to here 😃 Nothing

- Sprincean (10/5): - Was excellent Very clean
- Marnie (9/5): - Our hostess was delightful and very accommodating.
Our room was very clean.
Breakfast was delicious. We found the room too hot. This does, however, seem to be an issue in many places. While the duvet and bed were comfy a much lower tog duvet would have been preferable.
- dave (10/5): -
- victoriapF281VO (10/5): A Right Royal Stay - We were met with a warm welcome from Fiona.
Everything was of a very high standard, warm and beautifully presented.
The location and views were perfect. Excellent breakfast choices were served in a beautiful dining room. Our room was spacious, with a large ensuite and serviced daily.
The pool facilities were excellent.
Jim treated us to a preview of their Christmas lights.
We enjoyed a fabulous November 6 night stay in their beautiful home.
We intend to return in the spring.
Victoria and Peter
- Kelly (10/5): Thornbank house a real gem - What's not to like
from when we pulled into the drive we knew this place was going to be special
Stunning property excellently maintained inside and out just spotlessly clean with beautiful decor throughout.
Greeted at the door by the lovely Fiona who showed us round and made us feel very welcomed.Rooms were big but still had a real cosy feel with big comfortable beds fridge tea/coffee making station the bathroom again massive with shower and wait for it...your own jacuzzi bath The facilities here are on par with much bigger much pricier places we've stayed at and the pool hot tub and gym equipment was just superb and definitely needed especially after the breakfast we were served, absolutely top notch to the point we'd travel the 3 hours just to come back just for breakfast.
Honestly can't wait to return such a chilled relaxed weekend that even the weather couldn't spoil Looked for faults to make the review more plausible but really couldn't find any negatives what so ever
- kevin (9/5): Brilliant fun and great value - would stay again! - Breakfast

- Goodwill (10/5): Lovely stay in a beautiful house. - Fiona was lovely. Just the right level of visibility - there if needed but not OTT.
Swimming pool was a lovely addition and the breakfast was very good.
Bedroom over-looking the sea was stunning and exceptionally clean Nothing to dislike
- elizabeth (10/5): - Amazing place hosts were fantastic breakfast brilliant
- Kate (10/5): - What an amazing place,everything was perfect N/A
- Brian (10/5): -
- delboyandhoney (10/5): WE DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE! - An absolute hidden marvel with panoramic views out to sea and hills with breathtaking sunsets. The lights from Stranraer glistening across the water and oh so peaceful. I could go on, but there's so much more to tell... The spacious berooms with crisp white linen, decorated stylishly throughout with a modern twist, are really stunning. Spotlessly presented with everything your heart desires. I've never seen a cleaner nor shinier, spacious bathroom anywhere! Just absolutely immaculate.
Apart from the humongous private Swimming Pool and Hot Tub area this beautiful house is set in it's own grounds with private drive and parking.
Although the 'stars' of this show are definitely the Proprietors... from the warm welcome, taking us into town when our cab didn't appear and relentlessly making us feel at home.
To top it all a magnificent delicious Scottish breakfast cooked to perfection with excellent local produce.
Thank you Fiona and Jim, you really made our stay very special x
- Ginny (9/5): Lovely property with a fantastic host and convenient for the ferry. - Fiona couldn’t have been more accommodating and the property is beautiful. Unfortunately the weather meant we couldn’t make good use of the balcony but it looked a lovely place to sit out and the view was fantastic. Easy walking distance to the town centre for shops and restaurants and convenient for the ferry next morning. The room felt a little cramped, it would have been better without the sofa and would have allowed easier passage around the bed and access to the balcony. That is being picky though because that is the only thing I didn’t like!
- Fraser (10/5): Short stay in 5 star equivalent B&B with first class facilities. - First class location, accommodation, and facilities - extremely well run by friendly owners. The pool and jacuzzi were wonderful for such a small enterprise . It is truly a mini 5 star hotel which I have already recommended to friends. Nothing
- Alistair (10/5): -
- helen (10/5): An exceptional stay - The house was beautiful and immaculate, set on an elevated site overlooking the sea. Our room was huge and had a double aspect and a large ensuite with shower & a jacuzzi bath. The bed was very comfortable. Lots of thoughtful extras like a fridge with fresh mik inside and wine glasses with a corkscrew, bathrobes. Unfortunately we only stayed one night and didn't have time to use the swimming pool. Fiona, the owner, was lovely and very helpful. Husband had a full Scottish breakfast and I had scrambled egg with smoked salmon, both delicious. The only thing I didn't like were the satchets of shower gel as I can never open them. I would have preferred a wall dispenser.
- Alastair (9/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect for a wonderful stay over, Great host, great accommodation and great pool - The room was beautiful with all our needs and an excellent view.
The pool was excellent, big enough and very warm. added bonus of a hot tub which was perfect.
The breakfast was delicious and plenty.
Our host was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us an excellent tip for food for the evening.
- Jollycat (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Lovely place to stay - comfortable room with nice bedding and pillows, sparkly clean bathroom and an amazing view out of the window. We had the room with the balcony and it would be a lovely spot for a glass of wine. It was a bit too rainy when we arrived but the view in the sunshine the next morning was a great start to the day. The breakfast was delicious and there was a friendly welcome. The added bonus was the pool - I really enjoyed a swim after a few hours in the car. We stayed overnight before getting the ferry from Cairnryan (10 minutes drive away around the loch) but could have quite happily spent a few days here.
- Gillian (9/5): We have stayed here before & would happily return. - Immaculately clean. Bed was super comfy & breakfast delicious. The house was too warm.
- Karen (10/5): 5* experience - It was just so clean, peaceful & beautiful.
Fiona was lovely, warm friendly & informative.
Our only problem was we only had 1 night & didn't get to use the pool. It's too far away from Bristol to visit often 😕
- John (10/5): Wonderful - Very clean.beautiful place and lovely views. Nothing.
- Andrew (10/5): Thornbank Palace. - Beautiful house and accommodation
Stayed in room 3 which has a balcony with absolutely stunning views.
Fiona was an exceptional host and made us so welcome.
Breakfast was amazing, all made freshly to order.
Will definitely visit again.
- Halton (10/5): - Quality of the facilities.
- Fiona (10/5): Delighfully unexpected - The views were incredible. Nothing
- Jennifer (9/5): Proper stay at a posh country seaside property! - So lovely. Comfortable, modern and classic at the same time. Gorgeous room, view, pool was an excellent bonus. Dog friendly. Attentive host. Walkable to town. Great place to stay to catch ferry next day too! The village is pretty local—so not much to do there. I was only there for an overnight—so might have missed a lot. A tiny tricky to find. It is indeed on the left side at the end of the side road.
- HeatherF1924 (10/5): Excellent dog friendly accommodation - Excellent property. Very clean and well maintained. A lovely lady showed us around, very polite and helpful. We had an early boat to catch so she made us breakfast to take away. Lovely views. The pool is great. Would highly recommend and will visit again.
- Camper53607074994 (10/5): Highly recommended, we can't wait to come back! - Fiona was so welcoming. Thornbank House is absolutely beautiful. Our room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Loved the swimming pool and the hot tub too. The bed was very comfortable and we could really get used to waking up to that amazing view everyday! Breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked for us. There was also cereals, yogurt, cereal bars and a freshly made fruit salad. My husband had a full Scottish breakfast and I had scrambled eggs & smoked salmon, both were amazing. Cant wait to visit again, thank you so much Fiona for your hospitality.
- Jace (10/5): Lives up to the reviews - Quiet, large room, amazing breakfast and there's a pool.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - An exceptional Guest House in so many ways. If you're going to Stranraer then definitely stay here. I wish we had been able to stay longer.
- Alan (10/5): Trip away as a couple throughly enjoyed our stay - Ideal location, beautiful walk nearby, swimming pool and hot tub Nothing
- Sonas1 (10/5): Impeccable - Impeccable. Thus is more than a guest house. Everything is top quality - decor, facilities, food and drink. Has a lovely swimming pool and gym equipment but sadly ferry time did nit allow me to make use. I was departing early and was given a packed lunch instead of breakfast, which was delicious. Friendly owner who didn’t mind my turning up late due to traffic.
- Kayleigh (10/5): We will be back - The house is absolutely stunning inside and out and the views are like your abroad Nothing to comment
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous place amazing views Nothing
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect wee getaway, room was huge and views 👌 I spent time in room because the spa bath, views , sat at the big bay window and got to watch people on the water having fun perfect getaway, 👌 breakfast 😀 all you need host well, so inviting , wanted to stay longer tbh, the telly well? - Stephen (10/5): Just what we wanted from an overnight stay. - Very well kept and clean.
Very welcoming.
Good location.
Swimming pool a bonus.
Excellent breakfast. Nothing
- Douglas (10/5): Brilliant stay loved the whole experience. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. Would recommend without hesitation - Fantastic hotel with amazing views Nothing to add here
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic stay in beautifully appointed accommodation. Excellent facilities.
Chose primarily because of convenience for the ferry, but has been the unexpected highlight of our trip so far! Nothing!
- FrodoRoss (10/5): Stranraer Gem - We just had an overnight stay at Thornbank Guest House (B&B) over the weekend. It was fantastic, there are three great guest rooms each with their own attraction such as great views and balconies. Thornbank is dog friendly which was good for us but having access to the large pool and jacuzzi etc was awesome, thanks Fiona.
- Pardo (10/5): Fantastic! - Fiona was a fabulous host! The property was beautiful and the room was spacious with a stunning view. It was very comfortable and clean and the breakfast was amazing! We would highly recommend this b & b!
- Ashley (10/5): Fantastic - Fiona was a fantastic host and made sure we were completely looked after. Exceptional breakfast
- Helen (8/5): Only a brief overnight stay for convenience, but all went well. - Opportunity to sit in the garden one afternoon.
- Fergus (10/5): Exceptional accommodation location and food. -
- 368debbies (10/5): Amazing holiday with our family - I am so reluctant to leave a 5* review as I may not get availability for when I next need to visit.
Fiona and Jim are fantastic. The house is spotless, rooms are serviced every day, breakfast is 5* and it really was a luxury stay.
Nothing was too much trouble and our dogs were welcomed like members of the family.
All rooms have loch/sea view so no room is better than the next.
We cannot wait to return
- Fiona (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary break. Comfort and facilities were excellent. - Great location and our room had spectacular views across the Loch. Delicious breakfast and Fiona and Jim were wonderful hosts. Thornbank is a beautiful house.
- Robert (7/5): We had a lovely stay. We visited the Logan Bot Gardens and the Mull of Galloway which was beautiful. - This is a hidden gem. It is near the town but not in it. It has breath taking views overlooking Cairnryan loch. The owners were so friendly. The breakfast was really good too. There was a swimming pool and a hot tub. Car parking was spacious too. I think Thornbank House is rated accurately.
