Guest Reviews
- Daniel (6/5): I would stay again but not on that bed 😬 - Good location and very friendly staff. The bed was extremely noisy, slightest move and the bed creaks loudly (106)
Had a terrible sleep which was a shame
- Max (10/5): Short - Very accommodating staff and very clean facilities.
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): Enjoyed our stay, thank you all. - Every member of staff was very accommodating and friendly.
Breakfast was good and plentiful.
Excellent to be able to park outside the property. Decor would benefit from refreshing.
Otherwise fine.
- Melvin (9/5): - Good More choice
- Keith (1/5): Awful - Portland has water sports and rambling for activities. The hotel was close to the castle and war museum. It was run down. Old. The reception didn’t open until 3 pm. Breakfast was awful. No staff directly available. Coffee decanter empty. Hot water decanter took 10 minutes to fill one cup after continuous button pressing. Shower in the room was broken. Rooms are small and the walls paper thin. £127 a night Monday to Tuesday. I would give it 1 out of 10. The economy room had a view of a roof. £127 for a roof view.
- David (7/5): -
- Ana (8/5): Great stay on the Isle of Portland - The design of the room, view of the port, heating, great WIFI, and very welcoming hosts. Location was also convenient. Nothing much - maybe having proper coffee for breakfast.. but plenty of options are available.
- Claire (9/5): Great food - The food is exceptional and the bar is nice and reasonably priced. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are modern and bright. I love that there was a fridge in the room. The car park has limited spaces, it was fine for us but I can imagine in busy seasons it would be difficult.

- Curt (6/5): -
- Peter (7/5): Staight forward Hotel ,all the facilities you could need with very friendly staff and good location - Friendly staff , clean and comfortable accommodation good food and good value Nothing comes to mind !
- Gordon (8/5): Wonderful. - The room was small but functional. It did what I needed. The beds were comfortable, the shower was warm and powerful. I have absolutely no complaints about the room. The breakfast was good and the evening meals were very good as well.
Martin the owner was very welcoming and friendly and I would have absolutely no qualms about returning. I can't think of anything I didn't like.
- ABDALLAH (9/5): -
- Terry (10/5): booking this venue again for next years trip - Perfect for groups of divers.
spacious, bar, breakfast and evening meals, parking and friendly attentive staff there wasn't anything to dislike for us
- Andy (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was good. Room was very clean. Thank you :)
- Michael (9/5): Excellent host providing an excellent experience - The hotel is in an excellent location, the food is really good and well made. The atmosphere is relaxed and nothing is too much trouble. Curtains didn’t fit the window very well and the latch on the window was awkward to get the window to close.
- John Robert (7/5): No frills. Good basic facilities. -
- Edmundas (7/5): - The breakfast, view and receptionist. Not comfortable mattress , and ambience in the room was not good.
- Colin (10/5): - All fine for 1 night business trip
- barry (6/5): budget price for area fairly basic but very quiet when I was there - Martin nice host.breakfast adequate except only scrambelled on offer.Next to Customs House and launch ramp for small boats. sea view out of window a bit surprised to be put on top floor when I asked for easy access-2 flights of stairs not ideal as have new hip.
- john (8/5): -
- Preslava (10/5): -
- Eric (8/5): - Very convenient for the port as we were visiting a cruise ship for the day. They are refurbishing the hotel to a good standard but the front of the building needs attention.
- Gemma (10/5): Fantastic hotel, staff and food with the exceptional Polly the parrot. - The food and staff are amazing here at the Aqua Hotel. The hotel staff are so friendly and accommodating to your needs. The drinks and food are amazing quality and great value for money (we ended up not eating elsewhere). The hotel is very pretty decorated with lots of tings to look for and of course let's not forget the amazing sounds of Polly the Parrot. Parking can be an issue as spaces are limited, however if the car park spaces are full, there can be parking found on the road.
- kingsley (9/5): enjoyable - Spotless hotel ideal for people sailing ,diving etc. probably not the place to take the other half for a romantic weekend nothing
- Mark (10/5): Great location and harbour views, with a surprisingly good selection of evening meals. Lovely staff. - Breakfast was excellent, as expected, however the surprise was the variety, quality and pricing of the evening meals. Specials on every day and with pricing for puddings and starters that meant you could actually have one! Seafood especially good.
All staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. Curtains could have been a little more generous in size as had to be carefully positioned to get room dark, however we were so tired from sailing every day it wasn't a big issue, compared to the snoring of the aged room occupants!
- Charlotte (9/5): Awesome Aqua - Amazing staff, very friendly and really clean premises. Good facilities. Food was superb!!! Especially loved the calamari and scallops. Chef was great!!!! Walls are rather thin and it was a busy weekend, so you could hear other residents, but can't be helped.
- Małgorzata (8/5): -
- Jill (9/5): While the facilities were great - the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff made our stay! - Staff were amazing. Rooms very comfortable and bright. Food was great, on site parking was extremely helpful and location was ideal with the beach next door. Nothing
- jonathan (10/5): -
- Kaspars (9/5): - Nice hotel, everything was pretty much OK. Good breakfast.
- Elspeth (8/5): -
- Yitty (10/5): will be coming back to this hotel in the future! - When I arrived, check-in was quick and easy. I dropped off my belongings and went out for the evening, so I don't know about the dinner, but I know it was served. When I got back at 12:30 AM, the staff members who were still up were very helpful and friendly. As someone who often travels alone, it was nice to experience a community vibe. The bathroom was clean, and the Wi-Fi worked properly the whole time without buffering and with an easy login process. Additionally, there was a fridge in my room, which was extra helpful. In the morning, the staff were very accommodating and attentive to my dietary needs, and the breakfast buffet was beautifully arranged. I even had a bit of fun playing the piano during breakfast! technical problem- something was wrong with the hot water in the shower it was either freezing or too hot to the touch.... hope this can get resolved for next time!
- Jolita (10/5): -
- julie (8/5): - The staff were very helpful and friendly.. People letting their doors bang load at night.
- Frank (6/5): -
- Rachael (8/5): Brilliant location in Portland for diving and friendly staff - Really friendly staff, lovely breakfast and convenient location for diving.
- Jane (7/5): -
- Christian (7/5): - Schöne Lage am Industriehafen. Super nettes Personal. Parkplatz kostenlos vor der Tür. Zimmer gross genug. Essen im Pub passt, Frühstück auch. Matratzen haben ihre Lebenszeit demnächst erreicht. Sehr steile Stufen zum Zimmer, mit großem Gepäck schwierig aufs Zimmer zu kommen.
- James (6/5): There's better places to stay - Shower room was ok ,
staff were helpful ,
breakfast was ok . Limited parking , no air conditioning, fridge didn't work , loud noise from fire doors slamming shut , no smart tv so had to watch repeats ok UK shows from 20 yrs ago , hotel and rooms are very dated ,
Very expensive place to stay and priced for location only .
- grant (9/5): We were satisfied with our stay. - Location and Breakfast were good. It was all ok.
- brian (4/5): we were all disapointed .....more like a backpackers hostle than a hotel - breakfast.........never had to clean and put away my breakfast dishes in a hotel before
- Chris (8/5): -
- Julian (9/5): -
- Radoslaw (7/5): -
- Óscar (4/5): -
- Diane (9/5): Perfect base for exploring the area- friendly and comfortable - Great location very friendly staff, comfortable room and lovely breakfast. Relaxed atmosphere came in ans out with no fuss. Dog also made welcome. Highly recommended All good
- Richard (8/5): Ideal location for WPSNA - I stayed at the Aqua whilst attending a sailing event at the nearby WPSNA, it was an easy walk along the seafront and the hotel was exactly what I needed. Some items on the breakfast bar ran out on my first day but there was enough food and it was good.
- Stephen (5/5): Quite pricey for very basic and very small room. - Breakfast okay, but no fresh coffee.
Very limited parking. Beds are horrendous. Old spring mattress.
Curtains to small for window so let a lot of light in, no blinds.
No working electric toothbrush charger.
- karen (10/5): Fabulous - Friendly staff food music bar
- Mike (9/5): thank you to Martin and Clive and all the staff at The Aqua - food was first class and great value. Staff were excellent and went out of their way to help. Shower pressure (top floor) great and hot Bed might have been a little more comfortable
- Keith (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Gerry (6/5): Sorry to say but No improvement over two years - Location, Room was clean. Dining room being used as a storeroom, with TV's, Furniture, cardboard boxes left on open display it would not have taken much effort to stack the items tidally and cover them over. On our last visit the dining room was not doubling up as a store room, why now ???.
TV in bedroom very poor reception, when it received a signal, same problem as are last visit.
There doesn't appear to have been much approvement if any since our last stay here two years ago.
- Bob (10/5): Great, thoroughly enjoyed it - Very friendly hosts. Location is interesting and lots to see in the vicinity. Food was excellent, fresh local fish and lots of other options, all of which were excellent and great local wines with knowledgeable recommendations. We only stayed one night, it would have been nice to stay longer. There was no one playing the piano as it was a Monday!
- John (8/5): - Good location for Portland Harbour watersports and good value for money given a full breakfast was included in the price
- Stephen (10/5): - The receptionist / bartender/ waitress (Sian) was really friendly and efficient, handling a large dining group, customers at the bar and a late check in, but still find time to have a chat as we bellied up to the bar for drinks.
- Peter (8/5): - It's position was good for us, visiting friends on Portland. Check in and room were fine, breakfast good. Access and parking a bit tricky, no lifts.
Despite good location, our room looked out on a big roof
- Ken (10/5): - Excellent service and well appointed room
- Christopher (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and approachable. The food well exceeded expectations. I'm looking forward to staying again next year. Thank you
- Caliu (10/5): - The manager was so nice for understanding my issue with my booking ,great food and nice service! Internet
- titmuss (9/5): would recommend Hotel and restaurant. - Brilliant Staff, very friendly and helpful. Good room and very clean with good views of the sea. Very good food and would recommend both breakfast and evening meals, well priced against some of the other restaurants and cooked very well with a good choice.
- Hilary (7/5): Fitted into our itinerary perfectly. - Breakfast started at 07:00 which is really good when you are walking the SW Coast Path.
They had a laundry service you could pay for, which we used during the day we walked round the Isle of Portland. The bar had no draught beer as they had run out of gas.
- Hector (10/5): The best thing, the hotel staff - The best thing is definitely the hotel staff. I was travelling for work and had to extend my stay late the night before, this included having to move to another room as mine was booked, the hotel staff were very friendly and organised it quickly. They even offered to move my bags to another room so that I could go to work first thing in the morning without having to worry about my luggage. When I came back from work I would arrive at the end of the dinner hour (which, by the way, was always delicious) and they offered to prepare whatever I wanted from the menu so that I wouldn't have to go without eating. I am very grateful for the very understanding and humane treatment I received. I highly recommend staying at this establishment.
- Griffin (10/5): A host who makes guests feel like family and a chef that makes food taste like Michelin Star! - Whilst the rooms are very basic they are super clean and comfy. But what stands out at this hotel is both the staff and the quality of the food. Martin and Team made a work trip feel like home with a Michelin Star feel to the food offering. Dinner was exceptional every single evening. This really is a rare gem of a place and we will be back
- Andrew (5/5): Basic and clean - Room was small and basic but clean and had a great en-suite shower room. The breakfast was good. A double bed would have been appreciated
- Trevor (7/5): - Good location,for the Marina,
Food was good when available Lack of staff, one person trying to do it all,
Owner sitting in bar, instead of seeing the problem and acting on it,If you are going to have a specials Board, make sure you have it in stock !!
- James (9/5): excellent - friendly professional staff, good honest food. Just a very nice place. nothing
- Michael (7/5): -
- Ram shaul (8/5): -
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- George (10/5): A good value pleasant place to stay when visiting Portland. - I was diving the next day so the location was perfect for a one night stay. Staff were helpful and friendly. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was just right for a day out at sea. Very good value. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Tracey (6/5): - Clean, quiet, staff seem friendly enough and it’s very different to hotels I’ve been to in the past.

- Ferencne (10/5): -
- Sylvia (7/5): - Location Need a chest of drawers
- Wanttoexplore (10/5): Perfect stay if you want to explore Isle of Portland - Location, quiet room, sea view, home cooked meals. Beds could be more comfy.
- Alistair (5/5): Nice, but noisey, location and good staff - The staff were courteous and professional and put on a nice breakfast in the morning through a very pleasant chef. The hotel is right on the water which is lovely and in a fascinating old dock full of history. The dockside is both one of its pluses and its biggest weakness. As you would expect a working dock is rather noisey. So just go assuming that there could be noise at night. That won't bother most folks mind, as its not exactly ear shattering noise, more a distance odd rumble. The rooms are also a bit sparse.
- Paul (10/5): Just about perfect - Super location and facilities Couldn't use my helicopter due to local flight restrictions
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Nicola (9/5): comfortable and cosy - good position, parking, option of single beds for 3 sharing was good, spare pillows, great shower a bit of a flushing issue with the toilet that I lifted the top and fixed
- Lynne (4/5): -
- Trucker1979 (8/5): -
- Athina (9/5): Very decent hotel with very helpful personel. All nice and easy. It did meet expectations. -
- Andrew (7/5): -
- Andrew (4/5): - Bar ok. Room was a bit spartan. Lino on the floors, no carpet. A noisy extractor fan that keeps you awake. Good location close to the sailing academy.
- Joanne (7/5): -
- Julia (6/5): Acceptable for short notice! -
- Sally (8/5): Had a lovely stay, nice view of the harbour - Breakfast was good, lots of choice Drinks at the bar were quite expensive
