Guest Reviews
- Ben (10/5): - Nice spacious bedroom. Could do with an iron and ironing board.
- Marylouise (8/5): - good accommodation just very tired - needs updating
- Ross (6/5): - The property requires maintenance and cleaning. We found cobwebs on the door frame prior to entering the room. The internal and external of the building requires painting. There were stains on the carpet. The shower was small/restrictive. The surrounding area required gardening, the grounds hadn’t been cleaned for quite sometime.
- Paul (8/5): - Was a late check in for us but it was all sorted with ease. Good ex
- Rodney (2/5): - Bathroom fans very noisy through out the premises. Neighbours fans just as noisy through out our apartment. All hours. Difficult to sleep. Everything was very old and generally not clean. Apartment was generally dirty, apart from the beds which were clean and comfortable
- Jay (4/5): - Dirty and poorly maintained. Old is fine, but should be kept clean
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very poor apartment - The apartment was very tired and in need of refurbishment and was not very clean at all. No tools were provided to clean with, i.e. Brush, mop, vacuum cleaner, cloths etc. Hand towels were only fit for use as floor cloths; we purchased our own. Pans were unsafe one with broken handle and a frying pan with the Teflon coating coming away. Again we purchased our own.
One good point was the chap in reception was polite and willing to help in any way he could.
- Jessie (2/5): - The apartment that was INCREDIBLY unpleasant! If I had not paid in advance, I would have left at the reception. Leading towards our room, the path was overgrown, the lawn was dead, there was litter everywhere, and clothing and linen was drying over chairs beside the path.
When we arrived at the room, the door was unlocked and the bedroom window (without fly screen) had allowed all matter of spiders, mosquitoes and other flying insects into the room.
In the bathroom, water damage was everywhere - the skirting boards were rotting, paint was falling from the ceiling, and the bottom towel rail was only just attached to the rotting plaster around it. Plus there was black mould growing all around the bath, in the grout of the shower, and up both the shower screen and mirror. The toilet smelt like a public toilet urinal and the skirting board behind it was stained yellow and swollen with water (urine) damage. The towels were clean, however the hand towel and flannels had bleach stains present. There was no bath mat.
In the kitchen, half of the teabags had expired a year ago, and the toaster had evidence of a mouse infestation. The cutlery was also unwashed, and nothing matched. We took one look at the plates and decided that they were unfit for human use.
The couches and chairs in the living area weren’t much cleaner, with round white residue stains and blood stains present on the covers, and the foam of pleather chairs was disintegrating and falling to the floor underneath us.
- Anthony (2/5): - This is the worst property that i have ever stayed in.
It was putrid. It needs to be closed down.
Windows were broken. Taps broken. Toilet roll holder broken.
Ants in 3 of the rooms.
Absolutely disgraceful
- Juliet (4/5): - It's dark drab and dated. The bed was clean and comfortable and only stayed the nights there as I was busy with my daughter
- Dorine (4/5): - The property is very old. One of the kitchen drawers fell apart as I opened it. The property is not very clean as we found dead bugs scattered around the apartment. The washing machine only half worked in our original room and then we were moved to a new room where both washer and dryer worked. The property is not handicap accessible and has many stairs which can be inconvenient for those with young children/strollers. The location was convenient with a Coles just down the street.
- Amanda (2/5): - This place is so bad not clean at all just terrible I will never stay there again. Really it was hot dirty disgusting.
- Trent (2/5): - The only thing that was accurate was the location! It was a calamity of issues - from a smoke alarm beeping all night, bedroom light surging on all night in off position!, broken toilet seat, broken shower, filty and uncomfortable furniture - the list could be endless. Again, a wonderful location - but that doesn't excuse the disgrace that the rooms were in! It was so bad it's taken me weeks to write the review!
- Liz (2/5): - The property was in need of a makeover. Very rundown
- Krish (6/5): - Well located and access for our purpose of visit. Good and secure onsite car parking facilities. Downside is that teh apartment was dated ands no lifts or ramp access
- Lindi (4/5): Not a great place - The room was very big and clean sheets and comfy beds. That’s the positives. The negatives is that it’s expensive to stay and the walls are very dirty with brown stains in some rooms, carpet dirty, dryer was broken.
- Atik (2/5): - There are nothing to like this property, the property is most disgusted, dirtiest ever i seen. I noticed there are spider webb with lots of newborn baby spider, i've asked the manager to clean the room and he replied It's ok, in summer always spider there instead cleanup the place, also they served expired milk for coffee. The whole place are dirty, didn’t clean dust, birthroom are moldy, rusty, Sofa are so yakki, my worst-ever xmas Holiday, my kids and my wife hated me. Finally no regret from the management. Please don't think they'll refund your money and my advice never go there even they offer free accommodation.
- Sandy (6/5): - The parking was great, as was the size of the apartment - it was huge! Had everything : oven, cooktop, microwave, washing machine, dryer, toaster, iron etc. Bed was very comfortable. Only 5 minutes drive to Cabrini Hospital. The let down was that it was a bit shabby and tired. Needed some TLC. The garden area also needed attention- even mowing the grass would have made a difference . Didn’t really matter to me, but it might to others.
- Elspeth (4/5): - The property was very disappointing. nothing like the photos. it is in desperate need of renovation, both the buildings and the grounds. I was with three colleagues in individual rooms. None of us got bath mats, hand towels. rooms were hot with no fan or airconditioning in the bedrooms. Would definitely NOT recommend.
- Trinity (8/5): - Honestly really good value for money. Definitely is a bit outdated but didnt bother us at all. There was an ac in our room and really comfortable beds and blankets.
- David (2/5): - Very old and dirty
- Simon (2/5): - Room needs alot of attention asap, from black mold in the bathrooms, heaps of dust in the vents and 3 lights with no lights and just holes and overall needs a lot of work, pictures aren’t accurate. Asked for a full refund but was only given 2 days. Had to check out and find another hotel.
- Karen (6/5): - Photos don’t match reality. Seemed to be plenty of car parking
- Michael (2/5): - Disgusting and dirty! Old needs an update!
Bathroom dirty, unable to open windows! Aircon was filthy!
No iron or ironing board! Dirty saucepans in drawers.
Wifi didn’t work tv didn’t work!
- Kyra (8/5): - Comfortable nights stay for our family.
- Rosemary (6/5): - All good!
- Michael (2/5): - We have never stayed in a place so dirty. When we first walked in the smell was overwhelming. The carpet outside the bedroom door was saturated. We told reception and they didn’t care. There were cobwebs everywhere. A small snail stuck on the wall of the bedroom. The split system was unusable as it was so dirty.
- Jessica Lesley (4/5): - Dirty and dusty unit needs an overhaul. Bed was falling apart, super hard mattress. Pillows are terrible, lounges felt like they fall apart at any not.
- Peter (6/5): - The online photos misrepresent the age and condition of the property, which is quite old and poorly maintained.
The amenities and cleanliness are average, and the rate charged is to far too expensive for this standard of accommodation
- Stephanie (8/5): - Unit was very spacious. Had everything you need. Could stay for a week or two very comfortable. Staff was great
- Jane (2/5): - If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
This is hands down the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The shower didn’t work, and the entire room was covered in mold. The smell was unbearable, like someone had been living there for weeks without any cleaning. I had to go out and buy room spray just to mask the stench enough to get through the night. Cobwebs in the corners, grime on every surface—this place was filthy beyond belief. I wouldn’t even let my dog stay here.
For what they charge, this is highway robbery. This place is subpar, disgusting, and completely misrepresented online. I later found a review mentioning the same issues, and that a staff member admitted the government had been paying them to house the homeless, which explained the awful stench. Apparently, they ‘can’t afford’ proper cleaning, but they still charge absurd rates like it’s a 4-star hotel! The photos online are seriously outdated and should be removed immediately—they don’t reflect the reality of this dump.
I’ve stayed in hotels in third-world countries that were cleaner and better maintained than this. Save yourself the nightmare and look elsewhere.
- Joel (6/5): - Location was good. Room was very tired and dated. Was acceptable given the cheap pricing.
- Sarah (4/5): - The apartment was large, but definitely needed some work. Windows frames and blinds were black with mould, walls dirty, cobwebs, fridge noisy, oven temp and settings worn off. Oddly, there were more irons than water glasses. Beds and kitchen were clean.
- melissa (6/5): - Was nice enough, but room felt unclean and the door to the balcony had no lock at all… property quite unkept. Wouldn’t go back in a hurry..
- Michael (10/5): My stay - Excellent
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Photos on website were not accurate
Property was filthy and smelt terrible . Looked like it had never been cleaned .
I checked in went into the room and checked out straight away
I travel almost weekly and book via hotels.com and upon advising them I was told a refund was not an option .
I have never experienced anything like this before
- Rebecca (6/5): dissapointed. - unfortunately the cleanliness was way below standard there was mould on the blinds, the dryer didn't work properly, there was a burnt out lamp in the main bedroom, black mould in the bathroom lounges were extremely uncomfortable felt like you sat on an angle and on the floor,
not the right amount of crockery and all the pans to cook with had black burnt stuff in them. so we could not utelise the cooking in the room. when i spoke to reception all i got was yep ok ill pass on to housekeeping.
- louise (2/5): - I can’t think of anyone I would recommend it to.
- Andrew (2/5): - Terrible.
Photo's do not represent reality.
There is tired, then there is Hawthorn East Serviced apartments.
Weeds in garden, stains on carpet, holes in doors, graffiti on outdoor table.
Just no.
- Ami (10/5): - Great accommodation
- Helen (8/5): - This property was comfy bed was a bit hard,
- Faye (2/5): - The shower head didn't work. Only a small drip of water came out when taps were turned on full. I left and booked elsewhere. Also, the place wasn't clean. Cobwebs, dirty carpets. Reception was stated as open until 8pm but I went at 6pm and it was closed.
- Agnieszka (2/5): - The room was dusty and mouldy, there was grime on the surfaces and the couches were soiled. I left within about 30 mins of checking in.
- Debbie (6/5): - The property looks very tired.
- John (6/5): - The flat was very spacious with a washing machine and was probably more suited to a couple or family but less cosy for a solo traveller especially in winter.
Someone has not been attending to the ‘high dusting’, the rusty frypan was only fit for the bin and one of the wine glasses had a very obvious crack. The place is tired and in need of a good refresh.
- Anita (6/5): - Easy onsite parking
- Oliver (2/5): - Just not a great place. Spend the extra to stay somewhere else. Generally tired and like nobody has been in to check condition in 10 years.
- Fiona (6/5): - It’s was clean but cold
- Peter (2/5): - Unit was filthy, air conditioning cover hanging off ,
filters haven't been cleaned for years, shower discusting with mould, dish cleaning brush has old food in it,rang reception asking for a clean room and told they are all the same and I can leaveif I want and get refund from Expedia. I have photos to prove
- Alistair (8/5): - Spacious and well equipped kitchen
No bathmat supplied. Conveniently located for the city.
- Chris (4/5): - Nothing like advertisement. Grubby and shabby interior. Cobwebs. No hand towel, bath mat or t-towel provided. Ordered and paid for 2 BR and only got 1BR on arrival. Had to go ask for second bedroom to be unlocked. Shower screen rusty. Skirting’s hanging off and rotted. Stained carpet. Certainly not worth the money.
- John (4/5): - Mould in bathroom was really bad. Tiles and shower screen black in corners. Needs a really god clean and then repaint.
- Philip (6/5): - Leaking toilet onto the floor. Toilet cistern just hanging off the wall. Many bad stains on the carpet. Mould in bathroom. Crumbs under couch cushions. Leak inside bathroom vanity. Dirty / Stained blankets.
- Dale (6/5): - Price was fine
Rooms need painting and carpets replaced
Linen and pillows needed upgrade
Served the purpose for us
Supermarket close and train station also
- Richard (2/5): Avoid at all costs - very poor hygiene. - Could only be considered emergency accommodation. The only surface that looked clean was the bed linen. Every door was grimy, exhaust fans in barely working order. Carpet looked like several parties have occurred without a clean up. Utterly disgusting.
- Gary (6/5): - Property is old, and not for older people with walking issues, has no lifts up from the car park and lots of steps and stairs, not enough signs in the car park to direct guests to their unit
- Shellie (6/5): - If you just need a bed to sleep in and a shower this is OK I guess. I entered and it smelt musty and there is signs of water damage around the apartment and the carpets were filthy. Just a bit shabby and worn out.
- Greg (8/5): - Easy booking, great check-in communication, very good property
- Verified traveler (4/5): The place is filthy - I know the place is cheap, but that's not an excuse for the filth. I had expected a place a little dated, sub-par appliances and etc, but oh boy...
It had all that plus a ton of mold inside the fridge (which was missing half of its shelves), there were only 4 forks in an apartment for 6 and the filth in absolutely everything was appalling.
- Angela (2/5): - I picked this apartment because they seemed perfect for my needs – close to my course and looked great in the Expedia photos. But reality hit hard when I arrived.
The place felt like it hadn't been updated in ages. Cobwebs hung in most corner, and a musty smell filled the air. The bedding didn't smell fresh either, with weird stains on the cushions. I ended up sleeping on top of the bed with towels just to feel somewhat comfortable.
The complimentary toiletries were already opened, and the complimentary biscuits were stale. Plus, the fridge froze all my groceries, so I had to throw them out.
It was clear maintenance wasn't a priority. Stains were everywhere (kitchen, walls cupboards), and neither the TV nor the heating worked, which was frustrating.
To top it off, there was a loud commotion outside my window early Sunday morning. Trying to get help was a nightmare – no phone in the room and the emergency contact was outdated.
When I finally spoke to someone about the noise, they just shrugged it off. They even suggested I walk to reception and use the phone on the outside wall if it happened again – not exactly safe walking outside in the middle of the night.
The next day, I asked about cleaning, only to be brushed off again. The bathroom was a disaster zone – moldy ceiling and a filthy bathtub. It was clear they weren't keeping up with basic cleanliness.
Overall, it was a letdown and felt downright unsafe. This place needs serious improvement to meet basic standards.
- Angela (8/5): - Great location. Plenty of space for our group if 6. Easy underground parking. Comfortable space to relax downstairs. Bedrooms upstairs.
- Kevin (4/5): - The carpets were stained, walls needed repaint and whole unit was in need of updating, not like in photos
- Daniel (6/5): - The apartments are close to a local Coles, and plenty of access to cafes and transport. It was a little noisy though being on a main road.
The apartment was quite dated and could use a thorough clean and some new carpet throughout.
That said, it was a reasonable overnight rate for a 2br apartment.
- Noeleen (2/5): - This property is in serious need of tender loving care and need some serious maintenance to the gardens and the property. The apartment had a musty smell. The fridge smelled and was not even switched on. The smoke alarm battery was flat and kept on making a beep sound. Some windows could not even be opened as the chain winders were worked out. Evertyhing felt old and worn. Dust and cob webs outside and some places inside as well. Did however feel linen and towels were clean. Overall it did not feel inviting at all.
- Else (8/5): - A good property in the not too expensive range
- Natalie (6/5): - The property is quite dated. When i walked in, it had a smell to it. I didnt realise until the next day that the bin hadnt been emptied from the previous guest, which was where the smell was coming from.
- Fiona (8/5): - Property was not far from Chapple and Toorak Roads in Prahran. Plenty of choices for dinner. Close to hospital we had to attend. The person on reception was happy to print something off I needed. Only criticism there were obvious cobwebs in the bedroom, quite a few of them.
- Brad (6/5): - It’s tired, paint peeling, misty smell old tired bathroom, not a place I would consider staying again
- Peter (8/5): - The unit was well equipped and quite spacious. Secure underground parking is great. Overall good value accommodation.
- Rochelle (4/5): - Run down , cobwebs in room. Small bed
- Matt (8/5): - Convenient for our circumstances
- Julie (6/5): - Bad stains and marks on floors and walls. Cobwebs in all rooms dirty looking appliances.
- Danielle (10/5): - Great location, clean
- Rasiah (8/5): - Was happy with the property / appartment which met all my expectations
- Kira (8/5): - Very affordable and central to my needs.
Apartment was spacious but needs a little updating, fresh paint and new carpets would go a long way!
- Linford (8/5): - Easy access to transport city
- Josh (4/5): - Should have read previous reviews, outdated, damaged and unclean with mould in the bathroom. Would not go back even though convenient location
- Michelle (4/5): - Fantastic staff. Unfortunately apparently very old & dirty. Misleading photos. Very stained carpets, no ventilation in kitchen, all kitchen equipment dirty. Will not stay again.
- helen (6/5): - The reception. Man was very obliging
Rooms were grotty and dated. Queen beds advertised but not available
- CHANA (2/5): - This Property was dirty. Blankets dirty. Bathroom mould, kitchenware and glasses all dirty. Stayed 2 nights for 2 ppl with only 2 bath towels.
- Kiah (2/5): - Overall disgusting
-Black mould on the roof in the bathroom
-Blood on the pillow
-3 month out of date milk in fridge
-carpets are stained in every corner of every room
-lamps didn’t work
-PowerPoints didn’t work
-walls inside are filthy with dust, cob webs and brown water streaks of who knows what
The list goes on…
I felt as though my apartment hadn’t been cleaned or maintained for guests and having the long life milk in the fridge out of date just proved that it hasn’t been done in a very very long time!
All in all, overpriced for the lack of hygiene, lack of care and maintenance of the apartment.
- W J (8/5): - Convienient
- Carl (2/5): - After having a booking months prior to our stay I received an email message at 8am the morning of our stay asking if we were still intending on coming and to advise the new card expiry date as I had a new card issued. Like most people I’m not checking emails every 5 minutes and checked them around 11:30am to find out my reservation had been cancelled as I hadn’t responded to the earlier email which I hadn’t even read at that stage.
I called after reading the email to be told there was nothing I could do about it as the room had been given away.
So I then had to find alternative accommodation for 6 people within two hours of our arrival time. Needless to say I was furious and wouldn’t recommend booking this place based on the fact they may cancel your reservation with little to no notice without the courtesy of a phone call.
- Danny (10/5): - Great location. Property very 'tired'.
- John (2/5): - Nothing to recommend about the property.
The room had burn marks thru out and very little worked. The dryer was broken and didnt work and not
a phone in the room that works to contact reception if needed.
Filth and disgusting.
On a major road and next door to a building site.
- Heather (8/5): - Wonderful communication with staff as I was arriving late to the apartment. A text message was sent to me with the parking code and our room number. It was a lovely touch to have the heater going and apartment nice and warm on arrival. Will be staying again as it’s very close to where I need to attend appointments.
- mel (4/5): - Loud rude other guests. Woken 7 times from other guests yelling, arguing running up and down central walk way.
Motel promotes “quiet motel for the enjoyment of all guests”. That did not happen.
Property is easy to get to reasonably clean.
- Karen (4/5): - Stains on the carpet. Very run down. The staff were very nice
- Peter (8/5): Clean and Convenient - Spent 4 nights here as my wife was in Cabrini Hospital and this was closest accommodation. Appreciated that the apartment was clean and spacious, but getting a bit tired in some areas and probably up for a refurbishment before too long.
- Natalie (10/5): Spacious, convenient, clean. - Convenient location, easily accessed, clean and spacious. Friendly efficient staff. Great full kitchen/cooking facilities. Only recommendation would be for them to provide a saucepan and a microwavable bowl. We had to cook our porridge in the frypan.
- Thomas (10/5): - Will stay again. Really nice.
- Marlene (6/5): - Was a bit old and warm but ok for us who needed to stay for a surgery at Cabrini hospital as it was a good location. Need more signs from car park for room 18 it was hard to find.
- Patricia (8/5): - The overall place was good. Space was very good
I would say it needs a refresh of paint. A few little repairs like the wardrobe door.
Enjoyed our stay for our visit.
The shops were close by.
I will recommend Hawthorn Gardens.
- Lauren (2/5): - The apartment had not been satisfactorily cleaned. The bath/ shower was dirty with hair in it. The vanity had marks that were easily removed when I wiped with a disinfectant wipe indicating it had not been cleaned. The main kitchen bench was clean, but the area next to the stove had dried egg on it. There was a general sense of quick clean of main surfaces but not a thorough clean. The main bedding was clean but when wanting to use the extra blanket from the cupboard we discovered black stains on it and could not use it. The apartment had a musty smell, was dusty and the carpets had large stains. It needs a deep clean. I do not expect to pay to stay somewhere and have to clean/ disinfect on arrival to ensure a standard of hygiene.
The kitchen was not adequately stocked. As a family of four staying we had 3 bowls, 3 glasses, 3 spoons, enough knives but only 1 fork. It seemed ridiculous that we didn’t even have enough bowls, glasses and cutlery for us to all eat a meal without washing up between. Our stay was unpleasant.
- Martin (8/5): - Very spacious and tidy. No noise from adjacent roads.
- Howard (4/5): - Great location but the property is old and not clean
- Neil (8/5): - We will stay again.
The apartment was roomy and warm.
The bathrooms are certainly outdated.
The carpets need a deep steam clean.
The sheets and towels were fresh and clean.
The tv requires an update, but it did have foxtel.
Wifi was OK.
Supermarket a 2 minute walk.
Reception was friendly and easy.
Secure parking with access codes.
Easy access to Toorak Road and the Monash Freeway.
The gardens are in need of some attention and updating.
Reasonable value for the money, particularly since secure parking is included in the price and it is close enough to the city to catch public transport into the CBD.
It suited us very well for this visit to Melbourne.
- Stuart (4/5): - Cleanliness was not good. Bathroom mouldy with hairs in the bath
- Thomas (8/5): - Please fix your heaters.
- Kathryn (2/5): - The location was great but that was it!
The heaters didn't work, windows wouldn't close. Mold, spiders, cockroaches, smelt. The reception was Not helpful and wasn't available on the weekend if you needed anything even though the sign said they would be. Would Definitely not stay again and advise against anyone else staying there!
