Guest Reviews
- Victor (9/5): One of the best places to stay in Zipo! - Luxurious accommodations at the far end of the beach. Super staff from front desk to housekeeping to restaurant servers. Beautiful secluded pool area. Room was quite dark but spacious. Quite a walk from hotel to Playa Del Amor.

- Olivier (9/5): - Great location, great environment and beach bar. Suite was quite large The mattress was pretty stiff.
Expect some anta in the room.

- Henri (10/5): Stylish, Gorgeous and Relaxing - The El Alquimista is just gorgeous. A spectacular setting right on the beach with a great restaurant and cocktail bar. Our room was very special above the restaurant which is right on the beach. We looked over the crashing waves and could also see all the way down Zipolite Beach. Meals at the restaurant were absolutely delicious with a modern interpretation of Mexican food as well as other international cuisines.

- Dorothy (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and will return. The staff is incredible! - The property location is wonderful you’re steps away from town and fantastic restaurants but it feels very private and secluded. The water pressure is hit or miss as was the hot water.
Había mucho olor a humedad .

- Nicholas (4/5): Overpriced - The location on the cove at the beach was great! The beach staff were generally friendly. The rooms were sparse. Without decor or much furniture. I realize the vibe is rustic but this is nowhere near the luxury pice tag. The room had a musty smell. Over our 5 days stay we didn’t realize it but the air conditioning leaked and ended up soaking our luggage and clothes. Reception seemed very uninterested in helping.

- Ivan (5/5): Overly attentive staff (good if thats what you like), rooms need stricter quality control for price - Location was poetic and hotel staff cared greatly about a dislocated knee injury that I had just sustained the night before I checked in. They were attentive to my needs and cared about customer experience, so for that I am thankful. I came to Zipolite hoping to be able to enjoy some tranquil anonymity, so the overly attentive staff stressed me out a bit. However, I fully acknowledge that this is a somewhat good problem to have.
My first hotel room at Alquimista (the suite), while impressive at a general level, one of the pillow cases had cigarette burn marks, and one of the 'clean' towels had questionable stains that led me to use my own towel instead. The room locking system is reduced to padlocks that can easily be picked, so this is something to take in mind if you care greatly for your security. The second room I stayed at had the shower head suspended from the ceiling with a makeshift string contraption (see photo) and came off the wall with a simple nudge. I had to waste time during my stay to deal with reporting this issue, and because they refused (politely) to move me to another room, I had to wait around for maintenance to enter the room to do plumbing. Overall I lost at least 2 hours of the time that I paid for because of this issue. For the price that I paid for the hotel, these issues are unacceptable and it would be nice to be compensated for loss of use value. Hope this review helps.
- Brennan (10/5): Another fantastic stay at El Alquimista - This was our second time staying at the property and it absolutely lived up to our expectations. The food is always delicious and the location is the best in town.

- Eduardo (9/5): Wonderful - Excellent Food, beach and staff. A bit pricier than other restaurants but excellent quality. Drinks also a bit overpriced. Perfect beach, very popular very diverse. Toilet door left little privacy and it was made of sticks and did not latch. No blackout curtains. The sun was in my face as soon as it came up. Bring eye covers so that the sun won't disturb your sleep. My bed frame was very squeeky room 27.
- ugo (9/5): - The food at the restaurant was delicious and the staff great. Beautiful beach and short walking distance to village center. Playa del Amor only about 2 km away Better to get a room with an ocean view
- Randall (10/5): -
- Bruce (10/5): Memorable. I will return. - This is a remarkable beach hotel built with simple but spacious rooms, a lovely pool area surrounded with birdsong, a great yoga studio, and an attentive and friendly staff. The restaurant is right on the beach and you can stay as long as you like with comfortable spots for reading and writing. The garden-like setting, the beach access, and the staff make this a sure beat if you want an authentic Mexican travel experience. The restaurant is quite good; however, it would be nice to see more regional cuisine and inventive cocktails. The Mexican dishes on the menu are by the far the best.

- Michael (10/5): - Beautiful resort! It is located directly on the prettiest part of the beach, and we loved waking up every morning to see the sunrise and the waves. A casual but elevated experience. We definitely will stay there again the next time we are in Zipolite! There are a ton of scams that come after you make your booking. The property warns you about this, but does not seem to be doing enough to stop it.
- Ryan (6/5): -
- STEPHEN (10/5): The best beach hotel on the planet Earth! - The staff and customer service is what truly separates this hotel from any of the others on the beach. The staff, Julianna especially, is just a gem. But, everybody you encounter at this hotel are wonderful and exceptional.
Seems like there should be more beach lounge cushions. But, guess what? All you have to do is ask, and they will bring you more, and set you up like a bowling pin with a table and umbrella. Customer service from front desk, restaurant and beach area is just stellar! Not a darn thing.

- steven (8/5): El Alquimista is a gorgeous hotel with loud Pulsating music every day. - Room is beautiful.
Beach is gorgeous.
Pool is an amazing sanctuary of quiet beauty.
Restaurant food was delicious.
Staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. They could use three times the number of Beach Beds.
ALL the reviews I read said ask for a room away from the restaurant if you want any hope of a late afternoon nap or going to sleep early. Unfortunately, my beautiful room was right in the path of the Loud Pulsating music that was playing at the restaurant at both 5 pm and 10 pm.

- Michael (9/5): A beautiful place to stay - clean and comfortable with a nice staff. - The property was clean and comfortable. The staff was also very nice. The junior suite is a very nice room and we loved the plunge pool! Robes would be a nice plus. Also a few more lounge chairs at the beach would be great. We camped out two days next door where we had to buy food and drinks ($300peso min per person) to find a comfy spot to sit.
- William (10/5): Amazing stay at this beautiful place - Stunning rustic hotel build into the hill and rolling out onto the beach Nothing
- Martha (10/5): -
- john (10/5): - I've stayed here many times. It is located at the best part of the beach ...magical. Great vibe everything was great
- David (10/5): Had a fantastic and relaxing time - Location, rooms, bed, restaurant,
Food, staff. Food and drinks are a bit expensive.
- Peter (9/5): A fantastic hotel in a beautiful location - Location on beach. Very understated style. Felt like you were living on the beach but with all the facilities Loved it all
- Gilbert von Moos (10/5): Perfect stay in Zipolite - Great location, right on the most beautiful beach in Zipolite

- Kraig (8/5): Fantastic location on Zipolite beach, good food, traditional Mexican buildings - The hotel is at a great location, right on Zipolite beach. We loved getting out of bed, opening our doors and walking right onto the sand. There is a very good restaurant on property that's right on the beach with a huge selection of food options. The staff are friendly and accommodating and keep an eye on the chaise lounges at the beach and also on what's going on in the water (there can be big waves). The staff were helpful at arranging discounted airport transfers. When we were there, the yoga program had one class a day with a great teacher (Maila) who taught a blend of iyengar + hatha styles. While not expensive by U.S. standards, it's expensive for Zipolite, e.g. cocktails/food 2x-5x vs places nearby. The room met our expectations but online descriptions are confusing and still not sure we got the room type we reserved. Not all rooms have both air conditioning and screens; know in general in Zipolite that you might get mosquito bites without repellent.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Andres (10/5): - Excelente atención y trato del personal.
- Alan (9/5): Great place - needs a few tweaks - There’s a lot to like about this property - the location is absolutely excellent on an amazing and very beautiful beach, the staff are truly exceptional and the food / drinks at the beachside restaurant are great - I wouldn’t hesitate to come back For me the downside was definitely the room - i booked a king suite - it wasn’t cheap and overall it felt a little tired and dark - on arrival the mosquito net was covered in lizard sh*t which was a shame as the cleaner did an amazing job in every other respect - the net was changed no problem but how does that even happen ? First impressions are really important and it wasn’t the best beginning to my stay
New mosquito nets , new towels and better lighting are needed and housekeeping should make sure the nets are washed at least weekly

- Cianna (9/5): Beautiful, comfortable stay with unbeatable beach access - just come ready for nature. - The direct beach access was unbeatable; clean, relaxed, and even had friendly beach dogs that hung out with us daily. Service was prompt, food at the restaurant was consistently good, and the staff made the stay feel safe and cared for. The cleaning lady deserves special credit; she went above and beyond every day, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Wi-Fi in the rooms was unreliable, so I had to work from the restaurant most of the time. The suite felt smaller than it looked in photos, and we had a few bugs sneak in - understandable given the location but still worth noting.

- Austin (10/5): A perfect, magical stay in Zipolite! Must book! - Serene, beautiful, and everything you need to be comfortable in Zipolite. Especially loved the onsite restaurant, one of the best in the area. And Alquimista’s private beach is so beautiful. The room itself was spacious and super clean. A/C was a game changer as well. There were times the hot water wouldn’t come through the shower, but wasn’t a huge deal for us personally.
