Molly (10/5): Excellent value for money, really great vibes - Absolutely love this resort! This is the second time I've stayed here - this time bringing my partner for her 30th birthday. The pool is lovely and it's great that it's open late. Having your own little hut is really nice and I loved that there's a hammock on the decking! The staff are lovely, food is lovely, bar is lovely - honestly just a great stay, and INSANELY good value for money. The only downside is that the room doesn't have a fridge or air con so we did overheat a little - there's only so much a fan can do! There also isn't much in the way of storage like a wardrobe or cupboards - but for what you pay you really can't complain!

Io ho ricevuto un trattamento davvero speciale: anche se avevo prenotato un letto in dormitorio mi hanno dato un bungalow perché soffro molto quando c' è l'aria condizionata. L'ho apprezzato davvero tanto.
Mario (8/5): - Die Zimmer sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Vor allem das Bad ist sehr einfach gehalten aber sauber. Am besten gefallen hat mir die Hängematte auf der Terrasse! Ansonsten sehr freundliches Personal und für den Preis unschlagbar!

Nice pool and super close to the beach. the staff is amazing and kind, a great hermano called Oliver, spreads love and kindness among the guests and never interrupts the party. The girl with the red hair is ok and nice as well

479thaw (10/5): A phenomenal chilled out hostel that is definitely a resort - An absolutely lush resort. Wicked pool and cheap drinks. Really great food too right in your doorstep . Comfy dorms with privacy curtains and a locker in the bed section. Loads going on and a good mix of people. The owners are lovely and hospitable if you can forgive the northern England music at times ;) . I would have loved to have stayed longer but needed to be on the other side of the island for a couple of events and didn't have a scooter. Look forward to coming back one day. Haad yao beach is a moment away as well.
Grace2802 (8/5): Lovely stay, the BEST food - Stayed here for 6 nights during our island hopping honeymoon. I picked this place after watching some vlogs so was excited to go. Was nice to be with young people our age and had some lovely conversations. Atmosphere is really nice and so chill. Room was clean but did need some TLC but for a 2 star resort and the price, perfectly reasonable! The one big issue we had was a cockerel that woke us up a few times early in the morning. We get up early anyway and don’t drink much but I can imagine that would have been hell with a hangover! The gym was a great bonus. Again, a bit of TLC would do it wonders and I didn’t touch the mats as they definitely needed a wash! But it was nice to have a space to workout. We didn’t use the pool but always saw it being cleaned in the mornings. Only a few sun beds which I thought might be an issue but they were not used much at all. The food at this place really brings it up. It was AMAZING! We didn’t plan to eat there as much as we did but just loved it. The bar staff are polite and the lovely Olly was very helpful with the local area. The bar area was quieter than I expected in the evenings, I thought they would have things on but I think it’s the quiet season so not much on. We did play some games in the bar and chatted to some others there. Everyone was very polite. We both enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. Great value for money and the food was the best we had.

scotthP3522KN (10/5): Excellent value - We had an awesome 5 days at Shiralea. The a.c. bungalow are excellent value for money. The pool was popular with the kids and the gym was a welcomed bonus. We ate in the restaurant almost every day. Overall a great place to stay.

The staff was very nice, the pool was good and clean and they had a really good gym with everything you need to have a good workout. One of the trainers there even gave me Tipps for my workout. The hostel has its own restaurant which is really good an has a lot to offer :)) It’s a 3min walk away from a nice beach with a lot of nice bars, restaurants and hotels. You have good free Wi-Fi everywhere in the hostel. I was in a dorm. The AC worked pretty well. The room had a bit of a weird smell but you got used to it pretty fast. The bathrooms were ok. A bit dirty but warm water showers. So overall it was good for the price and if you are looking for a cheap hostel that is nice you should go here.
416chloer (10/5): Great resort in Haad Yao - Great resort, I totally recommend it, specially if you’re travelling alone as it’s a great place to meet people. The resort is a few meter from the beach, motorbike rentals and a 7-11 not very far. In the resort itself you’ll find everything you need, nice restaurant (thai and western food), cafe, swimming pool, gym with daily classes or events such as movie or karaoke nights !
BKKUSATravels (10/5): Great Stay - Cool Hangout - The Shiralea was a great choice of accommodation on Koh Phangan. While the rooms are simple, they have everything you need and are very clean. For the per night price, you really can’t ask for more. The aircon bungalows are the best choice of room selection, however, I believe they have dorm style rooms if you are more cost conscious. The people that stay and work here make it a great place to hang out. The management team and staff at Shiralea make everyone feel welcome and create an enjoyable atmosphere. The property is set up to promote a sense of community and you will see that throughout your stay - especially if you choose to spend time in the common areas (bar, restaurant, pool, gym) with other fellow travelers. The location is perfect (close to beach and the rest of the island hot spots). Motorbike rental is very close (walkable). The food at the Shiralea restaurant/bar was consistently excellent - every menu item is high quality, cooked to perfection, and very fairly priced.
104teresitap (8/5): Grateful for the kindness and help - I was at SBR at the end of March and beginning of April. At the time of the Covid 19 when everyone was more or less asking foreigners to leave SBR opens its doors to me. First of all my sincere gratitude goes to the Managing Director who took personal care and time to source my medications as they were running out, after the airline cancel my return flight. A very stressful time made much better by the kindness of this man. It is not surprise that the rest of team there was equally as kind and helpful in every way. Special mentioned goes to Ben who was the middle man between consular staff and I. As well Jay who nothing was to small or too big, to make my stay more comfortable, I wanted to see the stars at night and he hung a huge sheet to block the resort lights, so I could indulge my love of the stars. Also Cake, Karim and the kitchen staff for whom warmth and sincere service was second nature. All was made easier by the fact that the staff all spoke English as well as Thai fluently. Thank you all for the wonderful stay!!

g_borp2016 (10/5): best place in phangan - everything was perfect, the staff is wonderful, helpful, everybody is friendly, the meals are delicious, and the best beach of phangan is next to the hostel. Theres a pool, and the common place is super cool. The hostel is located in the forest, in a beautiful surrondings, but not so far from the main road.

Staff super friendly and made us all feel so welcome and at home! massive shout out to Jay and Jim behind the bar! helped made the visit even better! Highly recommend this place if you love a good night at the bar making new friends and drinking lots! perfect also for people travelling alone!
ellaruth31 (6/5): Clean and spacious bungalows, not good area for backpackers - Bungalows were of a generous size for what we paid but the food and drinks in the bar are quite expensive for a backpackers place. You’re better off going to the beach, but even there it’s still relatively high prices. Also, bring earplugs, the fans were so loud I couldn’t sleep
Gabnick (6/5): Smells like teen spirit - Look, if you’re under 24 ignore my review! That would be your spring break paradise! But for all of the adults (were 28 and still love to party) this place is a poor value for your money. For 19€ a night we didn’t even have a proper blanket! The bar of the guesthouse generates nosie long after the closing hours of 2AM which gave an atmosphere of sleeping inside an Irish pub - not the best conditions! The staff were ok, but again very spring break oriented. I would highly recommend Haad son resort for the same price you can get a proper resort with amazing rooms and just 2 minutes drive from shiralea

There was also a very nice chill area with fast wifi (perfect for digital nomads). The staff here is an especially amazing, hard working group that was very helpful with our many questions about the island. Thank you to all of you (Karim, Jimmy, G, Jay, Dennis & Keira) for making us feel so welcome.

Jimmy, Jay, G, and Keira were super cool and helpful - easily the best and hardest workers that I have seen throughout my travels. chalin2000 (4/5): So lala... - We were supposed to stay at this hostel with a group of 15 people - 6 people (including me) changed to hotel. The food is very good!! The pool is nice, the staff is very friendly and the atmosphere in general is quite cool. But the rooms were dirty, there were little animals all over, the flushes in the bathrooms didn’t work and the bathrooms in general could have been cleaner as well. Maybe Germans are used to more “luxury” things, but maybe you should try to clean the rooms better and invest in new towels and bed sheets as well...

James (4/5): - Wouldnt recomend it. Beds are way to hard. Nothing is offereed from here to see thebisland at all that is bavkpacker affordable. Food is complete rip off here to pricey for upper end people compared to other islands. Its good if u want to be lazy and spend alot but terrible for exploring and being on a budget. And beds will kill your back and neck to so overall id reccomend staying on the other side of the island for sure

Alex (8/5): Prima hotel, maar niet voor feestende partygangers - Over het algemeen is er niks aan te merken op het verblijf; bedden zijn prima, lekker zwembad, aardig personeel en tegen een zeer goede prijs. Maar als je om 2100de keuken en om 2200de bar dicht gooit, mis ik toch echt het backpackers gevoel. Daar staat wel tegenover dat dit hotel aan de noord kant ligt, dus meer met de yoga zoekenden etc te maken zal krijgen. Aanrader: bezoek ook een avondje The Dome...

Patricia (6/5): Hôtel idéal pour les jeunes routards. - L'Hôtel reçoit énormément de jeunes avec des sacs à dos, qui viennent pour la full moon ou non, mais pour le coup l'hôtel est très bruyant jusqu'a 2 heures du matin la musique bât son plein. Le confort et sommaire, sauf pour les jeunes routards. C'est hôtel n'est pas adapté pour les familles. il est du reste assez isolé.

Rebecca (2/5): worst place on koh lanta - Checked in and the front staff was rude right off the bat. Our air conditioning didn’t work, the shower smelled like sulfur and there wasn’t any hot water. the door was literally tapped together and there was mosquitos in the room all night. the bed was so uncomfortable, my boyfriend and i kept having to toss and then just to prevent aches. for the price of this hotel you can literally stay at a much better place. we ended up checking out a day early and going somewhere else because it was so awful. also, the pictures are 100% deceiving.

Sonia (6/5): Bien situé mais bruyant - Bungalow confortable, piscine agréable, Guesthouse bien entretenu à 3 minutes de la plage, restaurant bon mais un peu cher. Le seul problème le bruit: musique trop forte toute la journée au bar-resto et surtout fête 1 soir sur 2 jusqu'à 2h du matin (prévoir les boules quies pour dormir, et encore...). De plus, tonte et débroussaillage à l'heure de la sieste des enfants. Si on est capable de faire abstraction du bruit, c'est un bon endroit pour résider. Un bon restaurant, pas cher avec un bon accueil sur la plage: le Haad Yao Villa.

DavidRedstone (8/5): Flashpacking for the young crowd - Shiralea is definitely a flashpacker hostel. It's designed and run by westerners, and has bamboo bungalows, bamboo bar with plenty of Western food, chlorinated swimming pool. Loud music is played in the bar, which can be heard everywhere. Haad Yao beach is a 3 minute walk, and has restaurants and bars along it, with tables on the sand. When I stayed at Shiralea there was a Contiki tour group. They painted themselves in neon colours and danced under a blacklight in the bar. One guy rang the bell and bought everyone a shot. Depending who you are, this sort of thing is a major pro or con. I didn't mind, and enjoyed the spectacle. The music played until 1am. I was in bed around midnight, and used earplugs. Overall it's the best backpacker hostel I've seen. Cons: Low water pressure around 7am in the morning, which meant the water instant heater on the wall wouldn't stay on. Then the water went off. Granted I only stayed one night. No idea what happened.

Bethan (6/5): Okayish... - My boyfriend and I stayed here as we were recommended by a friend. Unfortunately they were sold out of the air con room so we opted for a fan room instead. When we arrived and shown to our room it absolutely stank of wee, I'm not one to complain and ask to change rooms but I had to on this occasion. Hands up to the staff, they were great and even though they were fully booked they shuffled around to move us to a new room which smelt better. However, when we turned the fan on fluf went every where, the shower was cold and I was too afraid to put anything above the sink area, the sink was also blocked.. Nice! Aside from the room the ambiance, pool and bar area were fantastic!! I loved the hammock on the front of your room as well. The location is great, a few minutes walk from the beach and easy to Hire peds to see the rest of the Island. If you're lone backpacker this is the place for you and I reccomend solely on the atmosphere and staff. The rooms have potential, love needs to be put back into them!
philip (6/5): Good location - higher bar/restaurant prices - We stayed here for a couple of days. The location was good, but only if you have a scooter. The service was very nice and welcoming. Usually you wont have Wifi at the rooms, but for some reason we did which was good. Since this place is called backpackers resort one would expect backpacker prices. Unfortunately their prices in the Bar/Restaurant were one of the highest we experienced in Thailand. This is also due to their 7% service fee, even on bottles. Because of that, we tried to eat outside of the resort, so we always had a good reason to explore the surroundings which was nice. To put it in a nutshell, at shiraleas you will get an okay/good room in a good location for a reasonable price. Though you got to get a scooter to make your stay more enjoyable, but its only 150-200 baht for 24hrs, depending on what kind of scooter you want. Furthermore, shiraleas is a great place to get to know people (usually between 18-30yrs old).
Per (6/5): - Rummet vi bode i hade bara fläkt och var alldeles för varmt för mig och min flickväns smak. Inte heller jättefräsha och vi såg några ödlor och insekter. Men det är ett väldigt bra ställe att träffa nya människor som också backpackar. Poolen och restaurangen var bra med ok priser.
Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome hostel for 200 baht, nice pool, close to the beach, nice restaurant/bar/hangout spot with really cool staff! Always somebody there to drink with or talk to. But if you want a good night's sleep, dorms are soundproof and no party will disturb you. I would definitely go here again!
Verified traveler (8/5): Toller Pool, nette Anlage - Toller Pool, nette Anlage. Waren im Bungalow mit Ventilator. Simpel, ausreichend. Preise im Lokal für essen überteuert, westliches Essen nicht für den Preis nicht zu empfehlen. Thai-Food lecker. Nahegelegener Strand nicht so schön. Man braucht einen Roller, drumherum nicht viel fußläufig zu erreichen.
Edward (2/5): Honesty is the best policy. - The staff and especially the manager generally try their best but the condition of the bungalows are old and decrepit. Mattresses are good however. Sewage smell was an issue as the septic tank immediately beside our bungalow was full and overflowing polluting both the land and the air. Sewage smell permeates the air throughout the grounds and I'm afraid Thailand has stepped into a world of greed at the expense of its environment. We will not be back to this resort nor to Koh Phangan. It once was a beautiful island with unspoiled nature and sea. Now it is filled with youth aspiring to the Full Moon Parties and spewing the cigarette butts and beer bottles that come with that crowd. Thailand; Rest In Peace.

amanda (10/5): Great place ...a little bit of everything. - The staff here are awesome! Ness and Faye thank you for always going out of your way for me and for the bags of ice for my injured foot. This place has just the right mixture of people. The dorm style rooms bring in backpackers looking for inexpensive accommodation and a good social setting to meet others. The bungalows bring in families and long stay guests. Place is clean, staff go above and beyond, pool-side is relaxing and this place is a 3 minute walk to a beautiful beach. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Clare (10/5): Happy Island - We were pleasantly surprised by this resort. It is perfect for young people on a budget. It is a two minute walk from the beach and the pool is great.

Elizabeth (10/5): Don't make me leave! - Could not recommend it more! Travelling alone and met so many fun people here. There was a tour group from Ultimate during my stay who were very inclusive - their awesome tour leader Fiona was great at helping the tour group and other traveller groups integrate. Staff are awesome - Mitch, Tilly, Tom, Megsy, Nat and all the others are so friendly. Stay here for a couple of days and you feel like you ve become part of the family! Nice and quiet area but the bar is lively at night with pool parties etc. and you can always get a taxi to the main party areas if that's what you feel like doing. The staff will help you organising and transportation and day trips such as diving with Sail Rock divers which was amazing! Remember that it a backpackers hostel and so don't expect the Ritz but it has clean, comfortable basic rooms with AC or fan and amazing people to meet from all walks of life. Wish I could stay longer! Thanks Shiralea!
Alan (10/5): What a place!!! - My girlfriend and I stayed for 6 nights at Shiralea and we really loved it! We had our own little bungalow with a comfy double bed, end suite and a balcony with a hammock! The pool was great with sun loungers, inflatables and a poolside bar. Also the beach was only a 1 minute walk too. The guys working there were all sound and very approachable. Always happy to help with anything you need. The bar was cool with drink promos every night and there was amazing food available from morning until night, (Jai's chicken wrap was incredible!) Everything was clean. We had our room completly remade during our stay and there's fresh towels always available. The only tiny issue we had that our room was very hot during the night. The fan struggled to keep us cool and a little a/c would be better but I've heard the dorm rooms do have a/c. Will defo be recommending this as the place to stay on Koh Phangan!! Gilian (8/5): Nice stay but some things have to be improved - Had some nice days with two friends at Shiralea Backpackers. The staff was really nice, however they did not inform us about the 100Baht fee for the card each guest gets (with which you can pay your food and drinks over there). If we would have known that, we would have paid by cash all the time. Also on our final bill we noticed that they had booked meals double or added extras we hadn't ordered. So watch out for that & check your final bill. However the staff reacted friendly and was willing to delete those extras from our bill that we had not eaten/ordered. Also on my friend's birthday she got a free drink :) The room was nice with two kingsize beds for the three of us. Unfortunately, it wasn't cleaned once during our 4 days stay and they did not even empty the bin or provide fresh towels - that was bit disappointing. The area is rather quiet, just a few bars and restaurants at the beach but except one 7/11 around a 10 minutes walk from there, no shops around and not much going on. All in all, nice stay but some things could be improved.
