Guest Reviews
- Valentina (8/5): Charming stay - Charming boutique hotel with a lot of character. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated, and the pool area is beautiful and relaxing. The location is great—close enough to walk to restaurants and beaches, but tucked away so it feels peaceful. Staff are friendly and helpful.. The views from the second floor are beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, a wonderful stay and definitely a place we’d recommend. The only downside is that some areas could use a little updating, like the pool, chairs by the pool, showers
- Mater Mariana (9/5): - Tranquilo
Gracias!
- Marlene (1/5): This is a complete SCAM! Our experience did not reflect the quality or cleanliness expected from a property rated 4.5 st - Nothing!
We were the only guest and the place was inhabited. We left immediately after checking in and booked for alternative accommodations. The private pool was full of bugs, dirt, and visible moss growing from the floor. The walls were dirty and scraped, and overall, the room was in an unsanitary condition that made it impossible for us to stay.
- Martha (8/5): - Todo muy bien solo necesita algunos cambios los cuartos la posición de la tele y una limpiadora mucho menos a los baños y lavabos y toilet que les quiten lo negro de las orillas
- Selena (8/5): Very good -
- Knut (8/5): Very good - Wonderful view towards the sea. Nicely decorated rooms. No in-house breakfast available.
- Alejandro (9/5): Superb -
- Theodoros (8/5): Very good -
- Rosemary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Theodoros (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenise (8/5): Very good - Loved the very clean, private terrace and the firmness of the beds. And Guillermo is a great host and told us how to get to the beach and where to have dinner. No coffee on the premises!
- Louise (10/5): A Beautiful Hotel with Million Dollar Views! - We have stayed here 3 times now and I don't think we would go anywhere else while in Escondido. This hotel has so much unique charm and charisma. The location, the grounds, the views from the rooms, and they are so spacious! I would not change a thing about this hotel. Nothing. Everything is perfect. Our friends did say they wished they could have had coffee in the morning , so perhaps that could be an offer, but otherwise I'm very pleased.
- Filmer (8/5): Very good - A lovely quirky building. Well located for bus stations and airport
- Marco (8/5): Very good -
- Saskia (7/5): Fine for one night - It was walking distance from the bus stop. Quaint hotel .. The location was surrounded by dirty streets .. they could add a water cooker so we could at least boil water for tea ?
- Christopher (10/5): Colonial like nice good AC but hardly any guests. - It was a nice old school hotel. AC worked well. Quite and close to every thing. Surprisingly few guests given that we were there in December.
- Maria Dolores (10/5): - Todo excelente
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dana (10/5): - Love the place and service but needs upkeep
- Erika (10/5): - Oky
- Ana (8/5): - Nice place to stay if you like to exercise, be prepared to claim a lot stairs, nice views and clean pool.personal very friendly, but very hard to get a extra pillow or blankets.100 is the air conditioner very efficient and well maintained.
- Hans (7/5): RelAxed - Friendly staff & owner / historic feel of the building & spacious room with big terrace No service at all ( no coffee or any other drinks available
- Jennifer (10/5): - The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Yes, the hotel is older and rustic just as the pictures show but it’s got so much character. Lots of critters too, squirrels, anoles, geckos and iguanas. The pool is warm as well. Bathrooms have nice pressure and hot water. Wifi is weak but better by the pool. A/C is the best!
Good to know. Tacos and a bank on the corner, Oxxo up the stairs for morning coffee. Little stores all around and the playa principal is just a calm 10 minutes away. Good eats: tacos on the corner, Junto al Mar in the beach.
Guillermo at the front desk had great recommendations as well.
We were happy with our stay.
- Esmeralda (9/5): Front desk and cleaning ladies were very nice. We had a pleasant stay. Would recommend - Property was very convenient to everything. Very central. Really liked the area. Very well lite They only have just a sheet to cover yourself
- Raquel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Freedom23125368632 (10/5): A beautiful spot to relax in - We loved our time here. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the grounds were well kept, and we felt at home. We loved the Terra cotta decor and the open spaces. We definitely recommend staying here, and we’ll stay the next time we’re here!
- Guadalupe (6/5): - Rustico lugar, viejo.
- Christoph (8/5): Very good - Nice pool area, look of the hotel is nice…could need a makeover though Reception staff seems demotivated
- Lara (8/5): Charming but in need of updating - Nice gardens, great location. The hotel could do with done freshening up. It’s charming, but looking very tired. There was no breakfast or bar on site.
Every time I went to the front desk, the staff were watching a video on their phones. I felt like I was disrupting them.
- Ernesto (7/5): It is definitely a 3 star hotel. Wouldn’t give it a higher rating. Pleasant stay. Acceptably clean rooms and service. Ex - Location. Nice and courteous staff. Clean rooms and good service but they had no extra pillows and those available were very thin. A very hot swimming pool. Only used it once. Otherwise it was like a jacuzzi.
- Chavero (8/5): Very good - The pool You guys need easy access for wheel chair and a little refrigerator in the room
- Catie (8/5): Pleasant. I would come here again with my family+ baby+ friends again. - The location was truly the best location. Beach was within walking distance. Taco place right outside that had very good tacos al pastor. Hotel was a little confusing to find at first because it's kind of tucked in an alley, but we figured it out. The grounds were pretty and had a lot of amenities. The shower just wouldn't get warm. Granted, I showered at midnight so I don't know if there was a time related element to this. When my husband showered in the morning, it was actually warm. The air conditioner worked but it was still somewhat hot.
- Miriam (9/5): Superb -
- Jon (8/5): Beautiful spot with friendly staff in walking distance from different beaches. - The staff were very friendly and helpful, the pool and garden are beautiful (truly a hidden paradise) and it is an easy walk to Playa Carrizalillo or Puerto Angelito, as well as Playa Principal. Breakfast was nice and parking is very convenient. We stayed one more night in an upstairs room with a kitchen and a balcony (which was beautiful), but the kitchen was quite dirty and the plates / utensils not in good condition.
- Grege (10/5): Exceptional - staff very helpful place clean staff was very helpful
- Beatriz (6/5): - Nice hotel but looks very outdated and needs deeper cleaning
- Kenton (7/5): Good -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Sushi a beautiful handmade artisan gem. No fridge.
- Eric (10/5): A slice of paradise in southern mexico - Very nice place with fun attention to detail. Authentic Mexican vibe with a artistic newer spin. Old enough to have good character but new enough to offer modern conveniences. The suite was very large. The beds were firm. The AC worked well following some experimenting(in my room the trick was to put on automatic) the view was amazing and the location was good. The area was not super quiet but in my room it was by design.
Close walking distance to a large mega mart and a cool town near a marina with nice stores and many good restaurants. Great organic food store nearby.
There was a nice kitchenette on the third floor which was cool. Tough for those with limited mobility because it had many stairs. Not easy to find negatives. Good parking. The shower was hot option if that matters to you(trick with that was to let it run a bit)
If in Puerto Escondido I recommend you give it a go. Thanks to the staff who was great. Can't think of anything worth mentioning besides the few minor temporary hiccups in previous paragraph. It is not new and due to the built in special details it is probably a lot to upkeep. Do not expect perfection but do expect lodging with heart and the hard work to keep it that way.
- Cheryl (4/5): I would rather not say. - what I liked about the property where the staff. They were friendly, helpful, professional, and very kind. The property was great if you’re a young, surfer, or backpacker or on a limited budget.
The beds were very hard, and the pillows felt old and like you were laying your head on a rock. There was nothing but a sheet to cover up with which would be fine if you don’t use the air conditioner, however, at 28°C through the night that gets pretty stifling . Once you get to know the location and how to get to the beach and around town the location is really fine.
- Patrick (8/5): Location was excellent with marvellous views of the bay, staff are excellent, and an air of faded gr - Location was excellent with marvellous views of the bay, staff are excellent, and an air of faded grandeur about the place that added a sense of mystique. Nothing
- Ken (9/5): A clean, convenient, and comfortable stay - The hotel was centrally located. It was only about a 5 minute walk from the bus station. Playa Principal was about 5 minutes away. Playa Zicatela was about a 30 minute walk and Puerto Angelito/Playa Manzanillo was about 20 minutes. Of course there are also many taxis that will take you to these places also. There are also many restaurants nearby and also an Oxxo convenience store. The pool area is quite nice and the rooms may be a little dated, but they are large enough with two beds, AC, an outside terrace or balcony and good water pressure in the shower. The property is maintained well and everything is kept clean. The staff is very nice and helpful.
- Craig (8/5): Very good - Good pool area. The look of the property - quite quirky. A lot of stairs (if you have heavy luggage beware). Basic rooms.
- Nagat (10/5): - The staff is amazing and very helpful.
The hotel was very clean and landscape is amazing.
Very close to the beach.
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - It is a short walk to the bus terminal, and an equal walk downhill to the coast. The staff were pleasant. No breakfast was provided, not even coffee. Bathrooms were dingy and shower tiles needed cleaning.
- Lazy (8/5): Very good -
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (9/5): Unique and beautiful hotel at a reasonable price - The hotel is a work of art! I loved the fact that almost every niche and surface — even the shower wall — has been adorned with painted images, friezes, sculptures, stained glass, decorative tiles, and so on. It is beautiful and joyfully whimsical. We stayed two nights in different rooms, a regular second-floor room and the grand "master suite" on the top floor. Both had good views of the town and ocean, and both were very quiet due to the hotel's unusual location away from streets with car traffic (the "street" is a wide pedestrian staircase on the side of the hotel). The reception staff were welcoming and very helpful. I'm rating the hotel at 9 instead of 10 because the wifi was quite poor in both rooms, and the regular room was missing a chair (other rooms had them). These were minor inconveniences, however, greatly compensated for by the wonderful location, views, and sense of artistry and loving care reflected in the rooms, common areas and garden.
- Carrie (4/5): Overpriced for what it is, do NOT waste your money on an upgrade. - The location is great. Very close to Playa Principal, central to the city (access to buses, highway, collectivos), less toursity area (which is a bonus for us!), supermarket near by and walkable shops & places to snack. The common pool was nice as well along with the outdoor shower which worked better and was cleaner than the one in our room. The views from the upper floor / deck is fantastic.
NOTE: I will update my review if / when the owner or booking.com addresses my concerns and ask for a credit in the amount of the upgrade costs. Upon arrival we were handed two remotes, waved in the general direction of our room and that was it. Our room's AC wasn't working and there was no water on the first night. The person on staff came & tinkered w/ the AC until it worked and brought us a small bottle of water when we pressed for it. The AC didn't work again the next day so we played with the breaker box and took the AC unit apart to get it working again. The "pool" on our terrace wasn't filled, it had a hose dripping into to - it was like the hotel had expected us. This was night one of SEVEN. I immediately messaged the property and Booking.com for assistance - neither helped. The next day we scoped out the kitchen: it was missing a microwave, had few untensils or pots/pans, etc. (you won't be preparing food in this kitchen - we used the coffee maker (also filthy) and the fridge), there was black mould on the taps & filthy sponges.
The bathroom had an oozing sewage smell, we went and bought caulking to fill in the gap between the toilet & floor (the ring preventing gases from leaking had long ago worn away), while caulking a toilet... in a hotel I paid for, on vacation.... I noticed black mould behind the toilet. And then there's shower - the shower head is 70% rust, so you get a trickle of water at best and the "drain" in the tub simply didn't train -- within a few minutes of your shower, you'll be standing in a pool.
I KNOW this is NOT a 5-star hotel, I was NOT expecting a resort, I did my due diligence, read the reviews, looked at photos, read the descriptions and simply put we did NOT get what we paid for. The upgrade which was a difference of ~5500 Pesos / $400 CAD for a "pool", kitchen (in theory that you could use), air conditioning and full bathroom were not functional. I expected what we paid for, nothing more.
- Barbara (10/5): Unique hotel with authentic local charm. - Amazing, unique hotel well-situated close to the bus station and lots of local amenities. Very quiet pool area with lovely views. Very hospitable staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
- Cris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jos (6/5): It’s a okay hotel - Pool was nice, it’s quiet during the night. Nice breakfast around the corner It’s outdated and really hard beds. Both of us got back pain during our stay
- Neil (7/5): Overpriced, little in the way of facilities but still very atmospheric and a great pool - The swimming pool is lovely and warm and pretty clean with loungers available but little shade
After we complained about room being smelly and small for the cost ( much higher than I had paid in 6 weeks in Mexico) they upgraded us to a beautiful suite with a balcony
The whole place looks like a ‘gringos’ fantasy of Mexico No drinking water provided or available
No automatic cleaning of room
the restaurant and bar was permanently closed which was sad - had booked hotel because it had bar and restaurant
The guy at late check in was very unhelpful even though we spoke Spanish
- Margaret (9/5): Lovely coastal stay! - The hotel has a beautiful location, really nice pool, and great rooms! The pool and A/C were a necessity in the August heat. Within very easy walking distance to great restaurants and local beaches. The kitchens are only available for suites. Unfortunately the restaurant and bar were closed during our stay.
- Slipawaycpl (10/5): A Pleasant Surprise - We stopped here early into a long road trip from Puerto Angel, Oax. to the U.S. at Nogales, AZ. Hotel Paraiso was a complete surprise, so quaint, with authentic Mexican architecture. Guillermo was a perfect host. The pool was refreshing, the room was clean and comfortable and restaurants were in walking distance.
- Eric (8/5): Very good -
- Cristian (10/5): Very peaceful tranquil and comfortable stay would come again and again! - The scenery the location the staff was helpful with informing us of things to do around the area too. There was a crack in the pool but other than that it was all amazing
- Jose (8/5): Very good -
- Kayla (9/5): Superb -
- Josephine (8/5): It was fine. - The comfort of the room and privacy. Receptionist did not explain what the room offered.
- Denise (8/5): Very good -
- Denise (8/5): Very good -
- Cesar (7/5): Reviews were too high for this place - Colonial building but the pictures ilustración is not exact what’s the place. Very small rooms for the unit cost
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - the property has unique stone work and it is beautiful, a relaxing pool, good wifi and ac everything was nice
- Isobel (10/5): Exceptional -
- andreasrN3736JF (8/5): Lovely place, charming and very clean. - Hotel Paraiso Escondido is a very nice place, with kind staff and the manager and is super cool and helpful. My parents were in a suite with a huge balcony where we often sat gazing at the beautiful view we had from there. It is located quite near the beach and there are shops just one minute away if you need water or food. The pool is big and the architecture of the hotel is charming. It would've been nice to have a mini fridge to store water and drinks in but no big problem at all, with the stores so close by. The aircondition is sublime, very low noise and get's the room perfectly cool. It is cleaned daily and the cleaning ladies are very thorough and do a good job. The whole place is a bit old but it's pretty, clean and has good vibes. If you're going to Puerto Escondido - this is a nice place to stay.
- Pouget (9/5): Very good - Clean, friendly and helpful staff, nice decorations, quiet, hammocks The pool is so full of chemicals it strings the eyes, but if you don t put your head in it s great
- Andreas (7/5): Good - Very cosy and relaxed atmosphere.
Both rooms and suites are clean, nice and comfortable with good balconies with a view to Bahia Principal and the sea from the suites.
The staff is attentive and kind. When the air conditioner broke down, we were immediately moved to a new room.
The pool area is nice and relaxing and surrounded by flowers of all colors. A recommendation would be to install a small fridge in the rooms for keeping water cool.
- David (10/5): we really enjoyed our time here and liked having access to all of centro - Paraíso has a beautiful courtyard with lovely colonial feel It’s a bit expensive
- Susi (10/5): Exceptional - Great kitchen/dining space with private soaking pool on the balcony.
- 869adim (2/5): Theft - Unfortunately our rooms were opened by staff when we had said no to room service. Our personal stuff was looked through and money was stolen. And yes we are very sure of it. It’s unfortunate to have to experience such thing because of how great the reviews were. The Manager said she would speak to her staff that came in but nothing else was done.
- Diane (7/5): Good - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff was incredibly friendly. Hotel was clean. There is nothing I didn’t like
- Fabrice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Javier (10/5): - Anita @ the front desk was so active to our needs. She so professional and friendly. Her staff always friendly and very helpfull that made our vacation so relaxing.
- Pete (7/5): Great view of the beach - Suites are much nicer than the 1st or 2nd floor rooms Noise from local guests in pool area and in adjacent rooms.
- Samuel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jürgen (9/5): Superb -
- Whelan (7/5): Good - Beautiful hotel with an incredible view of the ocean and the lovely pool. The room was spacious and the bathroom had lovely tile work. Room service somehow managed to come every day and also never knock on the door, just had an idea when we were gone, and they did a really great job cleaning. Staff was really friendly as well. There was no drinking water the whole time we stayed there, which was an entire week. There was a delivery issue so maybe not their fault, but no apparent backup plan. Luckily we had been planning on doing some hiking and brought a water filter. There was also no coffee or anything else, which is fine, but there wasn’t any coffee shop nearby either so we had to grab gas station coffee. It would have been really nice to have something to drink that didn’t take extra effort, but that’s kind of small potatoes in the long run.
- mrsables07 (10/5): Best family vacation - Our family of five stayed at the villa for a week. Anita and her staff were incredible, very sweet and attentive to all of our needs. The hotel is a bit older but has so much charm, think like the house from Encanto. We constantly had cold ac pumping into our rooms which felt amazing after a day playing at the beach. The showers it does heat up it takes a few minutes though. We loved seeing the iguanas, geckos, squirrels and two cute cats that our kids named. An amazing tacqueria just steps away too. We will be back next year.
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - pretty hotel, really nice pool area, good value
- Sven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb -
- Ivan (9/5): Superb - This is very authentic hotel. If you have not made your mind yet wether to stay La Punta or Cerezallia .. you can start « in the middle » and then carry on discover the territories. I was travelling alone and enjoyed the atmosphere, location of the hotel. The room was clean, good space and abs OK for a single or a couple traveling light.
- Daniel (8/5): Great Old Charm - Outside the hustle bustle of the beaches but just on the cusp, so we lived the location. This is an old hotel but they ns of charm and friendly nice. Great pool and Taqueria just half block away. Our room was on the pool, so at times it got a little loud late when people came home, but without a doubt stay again. Beds are firm.
- Bradley (10/5): Loving Puerto Escondido - Such a super chill atmosphere, fabulous staff, can't wait to go back soon what you need to know is the suites have access to a nice little kitchen and fridge, truly it's a great choice if you just want to relax. Wifi on the upper level wasn't the best but I didn't go there to look at my phone, nice tv doesn't get English channels.
- salvador (6/5): - The room looked old and battered. The bathroom was dirty with hairs in the shower area the tiles on the wall were dirty. Had to use a towel on the shower floor because I did not want to touch with my feet. it had a tiny TV. Wi-Fi is pretty fast and the pool area looks pretty decent. It does not have a restaurant and if they did, it was close during my stay overall I would not stay there again. What they charge it’s not worth it. You could find other hotels for way less in the area.
- Jean (5/5): Passable -
- Nancy (1/5): Bad - FALSELY advertised a restaurant/bar. There was none. Solo traveller wanted to stay strictly at hotel. I wanted to cancel but would not allow. Charged 10 days I stayed one night.
- Jorinde (10/5): a great stay in the heart of the town - beautiful well kept pool bathroom a little run down
- Lisa (9/5): large and comfortable rooms in a cute, Mexican hotel. nice area- not on the main touristy path but close enough to every - Large, comfortable rooms. friendly and helpful staff
- Robina (7/5): Pool was nice. Rooms comfortable for basic accommodation. Our 4 bedroom villa had private living area & kitchen. sui - The private area & living space with our 4 bedroom villa. shower water pressure very poor. A/C in one room warm air.
- Maasa (9/5): Superb - We enjoyed staying at a traditional Mexican accomodation for our last night in Puerto Escondido. Being a family of 3 we appreciated the combo of a King size and queen bed for a very reasonable cost. The view from our balcony was epic.
- Raphael (9/5): Superb -
