Guest Reviews
- Noufel (10/5): -
- Maria (2/5): - The price was really nice. Location is not very far from the subway, though the stairs are really incredible, especially during heat. The room was dirty, hair on the floor and in the bathroom. Mold and smell in the bathroom. Room is very small, the beds are so close, it seems like one bed room, not a twin.
The staff asked for 500 Hong Kong dollars as a deposit, though there was not a single word about it on booking. More over, they wanted cash or credit card, my debit card was not suitable. Imagine, you arrive for a 6 hours sleep in this shitty room, and they ask for deposit. Incredible.
The air conditioning in the room is controlled by reception, so you cannot change the temperature by yourself. So you either agree for 25 t, or you can
switch it off. No water in the room. To buy a bottle of water you should go to the main building and use a wending machine, the payment is only by Octopus card.. I didn’t have it, so failed to use it.
- Garcia (9/5): - It is a very comfy room and the place is gorgeous, quiet and far from the city nose Need to be fit to climb the stairs
- Mark (8/5): Unique HK hotel stay. - Check in was quick and easy. Staff were helpful about answering my questions about getting around the area. The room was simple and basic but fine. I had no issues with hot water during my one night a stay. This was a unique stay compared to most Hong Kong hotels. There is an on site restaurant, House of Joy, which is fairly upscale but has many western food options. This location requires walking and at least some stairs to get in and out of the property. The hotel gave me a voucher for breakfast but it only was valid between 8 am - 11 am. I had to leave before 8 am so was unable to use it. The room could use a little work to fix up the space.
- Kwai Fong (8/5): -
- Ehler (8/5): Calm, relaxing and grounding. - The stay is definitely a hill! But I liked the quietness and calmness of the entire space. And to be honest the stairs were a nice little exercise in the morning and evening when leaving for adventures. It's a nice stay to be grounded in, and a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, but not too far that commuting or walking into the districts is a chore. I think that the room itself could have a little bit of an upgrade - a lick of paint here and there, and a little extra cleaning for the tiles in the bathroom.
- 潘 (9/5): - 不錯
- Tak-chuen (10/5): -
- Benoit (10/5): - Very spacious room, nice colonial style. Large bathroom. The access was not too clear.
- y88 (9/5): -
- ning (9/5): -
- Kwan Lun (7/5): - A quiet spot close to a busy residential area Peaceful
- Judy (7/5): Enjoyed our stay. Staff were helpful. - Nice place set in a quiet surroundings. Beautiful. Comfortable. Up the hill. Taxi were not happy to fetch us from a nearby pick up.
- Sabyasachi (10/5): - Beautiful location. The bit about the stairs is true but if you can get past it, fantastic. It is far from Hong Kong Island so there is that, but beautiful views of Kowloon and the bridge. Easy connections to the airport, get off at Mei Foo even if google maps tells you otherwise. Staff were very kind and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable and quiet. The overall Jao Tsung I academy is also interesting and always has stuff going on. Would stay here again.
- Beatrix (8/5): -
- Taras (9/5): Clean , beautiful and affordable - The area on the top of the hill is very beautiful. The room was specious clean and the staff were very helpful. The price was one of the best in HK . I think I might stay there again . The hot water isn’t consistent. We stayed for 4 days and only the first day had hot water .
There are too much light coming from the hall through the space under the door and the room at night get illuminated.
- Mayuko (9/5): - 可愛くて静かでした 駅からのアプローチがすこし長いです 最初はタクシーを使いました
- Charles (10/5): Excellent value for money, quiet pleasant stay away from the crowds. - Excellent location, room and breakfast was also better than expected. It is a quiet oasis in a busy city. Nothing to note, you just need to be prepared for the stairs. Initially had concerns about who the lodges are suited for but we had no issues at all. Only thing to note is that if coming by metro/underground there are many stairs. There are lifts but you'll still need to negotiate a lot of stairs to get to the property. But they are well lit and clean
- ziting (9/5): - The place was spacious compared to any other accommodation we came across, envoloped in nature and quiet, we absolutely loved it! So many stairs 😂 and when booking, it didn't mention "Heritage Lodge" as the location, only "Jao Tsung-I Academy
饒宗頤文化館" so we ended up carring our 19kg luggage up a series of stairs...
- Edith (8/5): Good value for money, but please pay attention to the guests’ noise - The location and the size of the room. No smart TV. Frequent noise from the sitting area outside our room. A sign reminding guests to be quiet after 11pm and before 9am should be posted on the wall.
- MENG WEI (7/5): good, peaceful stay. - quiet place & friendly staff. location that need to climb staircase.
- Stephen (6/5): -

- Carol (7/5): Quick stay - Very clean. We arrived at night and there was ample signs and adequate lighting leading you all the way to reception. The front desk was open when I checked in post midnight and was manned with early checkout also. If you have luggage, you'll have to go through several elevators and a few flights of stairs to get to the reception.
- Ng (9/5): Nice stay - Spacious. Lots of steps, a little challenging with luggage.
- Connie (5/5): -
- Muhammad (1/5): -
- Daniela (7/5): - The room was spacious Stairs.
Wi-fi.
Wet infiltrations from the room.
- 英武 (7/5): 床鋪舒服。網路數度快。清潔乾淨。空間較大。 - 浴室水忽大忽小。
夜晚外面傳來機器運作的噪音。
- Sharon (8/5): - Clean, good housekeeping and friendly staff The volume of hot and cold water coming out from the tap was inconsistent. So, regulating the water temperature was a bit of a challenge.
- Yan Yan (7/5): Nice but can be better in terms of room facilities - Nice staff Shower temperature keeps fluctuating
- Emilian (10/5): - Super lokum położone w fajnym miejscu! Miła obsługa, pełna profesja :)
- Sergey (10/5): - Absolutely amazing location on a hill! A bit tricky to get by walking at later time (the academy gate closes at 9:39pm), but the view and atmosphere is very pleasant.
- Wey Yinn (8/5): - calmness and quiet, comfortable a little out of the way
- KAM TING KENNETH (10/5): - 酒店位於繁華鬧市中心的一座小山邱上

- Krzysztof (10/5): - Very helpful and pleasant staff. Location is great if you want a bit of peace while sill having the convenience of access to a train station. Very nice rooms, especially the size, given it is Hong Kong.
- JUN (9/5): - 房間空間相比同等價格的要大⋯ 早餐也很好⋯ 就係位置遠咗少少⋯仲有二層電梯之後要走上去⋯
- Pinpapai (9/5): A perfect peaceful stay, tucked away from the chaos of the city but still very accessible and safe for solo travelers - I like the quite secluded but perfectly safe location. The hotel has an amazing view up from the hill overlooking into the city and in the morning, it’s very peaceful. I love how it’s surround by nature but still very accessible at the same time. There’s a bus stop right outside of the hotel and a nearby mtr as well. But I recommend only bringing a light suitcase or else you will have quite a workout to get to the reception (there’s a lift but you will still have to climb a few flight of stairs to reach the top.) But I promise you the stay will make it worth it! The staff also vey nice. I love it here and would definitely stay here again next time. I don’t mind climbing the stair but with luggages, it was a bit of a struggle. Even with the lift.
- Zhilong (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Good - The restaurant is quite far and has few food selections
- Alison (7/5): Pleasant quiet place but difficult with heavy luggage - Historical atmosphere Difficulty of access with taxis unwilling to come up the hill and deliver us a short distance to the MTR..we were lucky to grab one that was delivering other guests.
- Victoria (9/5): Superb - Quaint and unique property unlike other commercial hotels in the bustling city, steep in local cultural heritage. Clean and generally complete amenities. Room bigger than typical hotel rooms in HK. No water refill station provided, have to boil water ourselves. Property is up the hill - not recommended for people with mobility difficulties or travelers with huge and heavy luggage since there's only stairs if room is on 2nd floor.
- Tsang (8/5): Very good - Very clean, very nice rooms. Big rooms. Big beds. Getting there is not so convenient.
- Sin Man (8/5): - Quiet but close to MTR station. Shower sometimes cold when water pressure drops. Staff very helpful. Overall good.
- Andrew (6/5): If you have time and patience, good place to stay. - Nice little escape from the busy HK streets. Quiet little spot on the hill where you can hear the birds. Pain in the ass to get to. If you're travelling light you can take the train, if you are not or with kids, in a hurry then taxi it from and to the airport. Breakfast opens late at 9am which is not fun when you got hungry little ones so we had to run to the shop, which is a 10 -15 minute walk. We knew the walk was going to be a distant way, but breakfast late missed us up. Weird holding payment situation where it is frozen in your account, then returned unknowingly anywhere between 7-30 days after you book. Booked 100+ hotels in my life. The first time I have had this.
- Mark (8/5): A pleasant alternative to more typical hotels - The Heritage Lodge represents an interesting alternative to more typical hotels. The old, re-purposed and refurbished buildings are quite characterful and set in a very calm and green environment. My room was spacious and comfortable, with tasteful features, such as stylish lampshades and nice tilework. The bathroom was well maintained and fresh towels were provided everyday, if required. The beds were comfortable enough. A charming coffee shop can be found within the complex, in addition to a good quality restaurant. Also within the complex is an interesting gallery and cultural centre. I feel I received good service and good value for money. Some people, depending on their age or level of fitness, might find the number of steps one has to climb in order to arrive at the reception desk and rooms somewhat challenging, particularly in the hotter months. However, countering this is the elevated position of the property, and the corresponding view. Also, the steps are mitigated to an extent by two lifts which can be used if one so wishes. At night, the steps are well lit and atmospheric. There is a charming lily pond and many beautiful trees throughout the grounds of the complex. I found the staff helpful, friendly, and welcoming. In conclusion, my stay at the Heritage Lodge was very pleasant and represented good value for money.
- Kevin (7/5): Good - Quiet and relaxing location. Waking up with bird sounds in the middle of some green. Lots of stairs, but there are elevators. Nice and clean room. Kind staff. Two subway stations closeby (Mei Foo and Lai Chi Kok).
Breakfast is late. Starts at 9:00.
- Hana (3/5): Disappointing. - The room was affordable. When we arrived there was a note in the room saying it had been treated with insecticide, which is concerning in terms of health. Particularly as the windows were glued/painted shut so there was no ventilation, and there have been reports in the news of insecticide causing illness and death in holiday-goers. The walls were thin so when other guests were noisy in the night and early in the morning we could hear everything and got woken up. One morning very early there was a fire alarm for around 20-30 minutes. No staff were available and nothing was communicated to us about what was happening.
- Yan (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Facilities are nice, staff are friendly and helpful. Hostel location is excellent
- Erick (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (6/5): - There was too much stairs to climb. We had to take a cab every time we went out. Staff were nonchalant and just can’t be bothered, maybe because they don’t speak English well enough to engage in conversation with non local guests.
- Jay (10/5): - Tranquility inside a bustling metropolis. A rarity in Hong Kong
- Steven (8/5): Beautiful place - Comfortable and beautiful, but be ready to climb stairs! This place is located on an unusually high ridge in HK. They have more than one building on the ridge, with staircases between them.
As properties go in HK, this one is spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is through a partnership with a small restaurant half way down the ridge by stairs. The food was fantastic. But be prepared to climb lots of steps to get back to your room!
The only reasons for 4 stars are:
- Low Water Pressure: The bathroom is outfitted with an excellent massaging-style shower head. Unfortunately, the water pressure is so low that the massage feature doesn't work. It is also difficult to get water to stream away from the wall far enough to get your body wet without bumping the valve and shutting off the water!
- Incomprehensible heating/cooling system. Maybe it's just a cooling system, but when it's 12C (53F), it'd be nice to get some warm air into the room, but all I could get was cold air. There was something written on the thermostat, but it was in Chinese without an English translation.
- Tsz (7/5): Good - The area is special and have an unique landscape view. The lodges are located at the top of the hill, thus there are plenty of stairs or elevator to take to get up there. We were with backpack so it's alright but it might be more complicated with suitcases.
- Aleksandr (9/5): Superb - Can't pay for the breakfast by Visa/mastercard. Caffe accepts only cash or QR-codes,
- Wilson (8/5): - They should advise the guests to request the taxi driver to drive up the hill to the hotel receptionist building. Our taxi drive left us at the bottom of the hill, and we had to pull 2- 45 lbs luggage up the hill, about 3 to 400 steps. Hand towers should be provided. 2 pillows will be better than one.
- Jojo (8/5): Very good - Spacious bathroom, quiet location. Stairs, definitely take a taxi if bringing luggage
- Calabrese (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, very clean, comfortable bed. Just a short walk from Mei Foo MRT station, and easy to get to once you know which set of stairs is the fastest route. Water pressure was lacking a little but the shower did get nice and hot.
Breakfast and coffee at the cafe was good. Unfortunately they don’t take credit cards, so you’ll need cash or an Octopus.
My only complaints would be that the window didn’t open so there was no way to get fresh air, and that we could hear a little too much from nearby rooms and their overnight activities.
- Konstantinos (9/5): Superb - Big room, quiet place, good staff, near to metro starion mei foo,the only minus have was the heat of the water was not stable, but generally was a very good hotel
- Hei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suraj (7/5): Good -
- Charisma (9/5): Superb -
- Jenny (8/5): Very good - The location was good, the facilities looked nice and the staff was very friendly. Big bonus for having 2 cute cats in the reception Paper thin walls so not much privacy (noisy)and no possibility to open the window for fresh air.
- Yifeng (10/5): - Good Service
- Stanley (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel is a historical site, located on a hill. A bit away from the city, but very unique, quiet & comfortable. Many exhibition halls in the site, I enjoyed quite a lot! It's also near Metro & bus station, and many restaurants & convenient stores at the station plaza. Due to HK law, they don't provide free bottle water & disposable products. Understandable, but it'd be much better if there're drinking fountains in the building.
- Suman (10/5): - Cleanliness spot on!!
- Kateřina (9/5): Superb - Buildings are located in area, that is very quiet, so you can escape the rush of the city. Although you have to climb some stairs from subway, the complex itself has two elevators, and then some stairs, so it is not as dramatic, as we were thinking based on some previous reviews. The atmosphere of the whole place and room was very pleasant.
They let us store the luggage for few days (as we made a trip to another country only with backpacks). Our air conditioning machine was very loud, so we had to use ear plugs.
Would be nice if the vending machines in the complex sell some soups/snacks, not just beverages.
- Leo (9/5): Superb -
- aandason (8/5): A relaxing getaway from the concrete jungle - If my fiancée & I weren't there for her friend's wedding preparation, I would never know the Heritage Lodge (Jao Tsung-I Academy) has such a nice view adjacent to the concrete jungle in Mei Foo.
Although we didn't stay overnight, our experience was nothing short of amazing. The check-in process was efficiently quick, allowing us to settle into our room with no hassles.
The room itself was way spacious than other hotel rooms we visited, it was very clean, and beautifully decorated. I particularly enjoyed the modern amenities, including free indoor & outdoor Wi-Fi. The outdoor Wi-Fi is unexpectedly responsive, that's a plus!
The lodge's night view & lighting has got me, my fiancée & her friends completely gobsmacked! The outdoor lights (LEDs) & furniture have somehow brought up the "May Ball" scene from "The Theory of Everything" where Stephen Hawking was dancing with Jane (just without the roundabout / merry-go-round).
The hotel’s location was ideal, just a short walk from a nearby footbridge that will take you to the nearest bus terminus, taxi stand, minibus stop & a MTR station.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, and I'd love to return in the future!
- Fernando (6/5): Pleasant - It is a nice compound surrounded by nature. We told them in the reservation that we wanted an extra bed, they did not accommodate our request the first night because the cleaning staff finished at 5pm.
Too far from any convenience store. You will have to climb 10 minutes of stairs to find one.
The location is not very convenient.
- Stephen (7/5): Good -
- Matthew (8/5): Short break in Hong Kong - Comfortable room, friendly staff, good breakfast. 70 steps up to the accommodation even after 2 elevators.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely stay - We enjoyed our stay at Heritage Lodge. For the price, it was a great! The climb up (stairs + elevator) the hotel was not bad at all as we mostly came back when the sun is down. The staff are really nice! Location was good. Would stay here again if we were to visit HK in future!
- Dominic (8/5): Very good - The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and the coffee bar (where breakfast is served) is amazing and the staff are so friendly .
The room was cleaned well everyday, but the windows are small with only a little bit of natural light. We arrived with lots of suitcases and there are lots of stairs with a lift only to the half way point. The set is set on the side of a hill if you don't have heavy luggage then it's a good spot.
- Cindy (9/5): Amazing uphill heritage lodge if you don’t mind the small hike. -
- Steven (10/5): - Good location
- Matteo (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, great rooms and nice location Hot water was difficult to have.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hau (9/5): Superb -
- Feng (9/5): The fourth time to stay in the hotel - It is difficult to find such a heritage yard in Hong Kong with very high skyscrapers almost everywhere. The location is very good with subway (cross point of two lines), airport bus station (local bus with very cheap fare from/to the airport comparing with the airport express), supermarkets, markets, and restaurants in local residents living area nearby. The power of the water is not so stable. You may need some technique to control the water when take a shower.
- Tellesbø (7/5): Relaxing environment a little further away. - Felt like you were outside the city. A nice environment and complex around. Good value for the money A little difficult to getting there. By foot we had to lift our suitcases up a few stairs, and the room itself being on second floor without any elevator.
- Juno (7/5): One of a kind - close to mother nature and yet right in the hustle and bustle in a matter of minutes - It’s situated up high in the hill and its expansive view of Kowloon is breathtaking. Begin our day hearing birds chirping happily, domesticated felines of the hotel waiting to be fed etc. It’s private and quiet setting, no other high rise apartments or offices looking into your room apart from the room(s) adjacent to your building. Outdoor tables and chairs should you wish to bask in the sun or count the stars. Rooms are spacious by HK’s standard although the rooms show signs of age. Museums, cafes and restaurants are a stone throw away. There was a promotional offer going on at their restaurant during our stay. Good, fresh and quality food. Pet friendly hotel which is a rarity in HK. The hike to the lodge was arduous especially during the hot weather. Their elevators do not service all the way up to the lodgings. Since it offers staycation for families with pets in particular canines (judging by their posters), it would have been wholesome if they adopt the three stray dogs that visit their grounds every now and then.
- Hadi (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Heritage Lodge - Really nice hotel with rich history and modern cozy rooms. The only downside was that we hadn’t read properly that if you don’t take a taxi up it’s a lot of stairs. With two children this wasn’t ideal, but we do not blame the property but think it is good to know. We also appreciated that self laundry facilities.
- Leung (8/5): Very good -
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charles (8/5): Very good -
- Hayli (9/5): An urban oasis within the city that is pet friendly! - The history and natural setting of the lodge, beautifully situated in a lush surrounding, amazing view and unique design that blends new and old. Location is not that easily accessible from MTR and can be a bit inconvenient at night with bus times.
- Serafijn (10/5): - An oasis of history in a busy city - a bit out of the way but worth a stay!
- Andre (10/5): Meditation Vibes in Hong Kong - Hotel had an amazing meditation/spa vibe. Minimalist wit quality. Super friendly staff. Great view of the city from above. Can't think of anything.
- Kam Fu Bernadette (10/5): - Enjoyed it immensely
- Miguel (10/5): "Enjoy a delightful stay in Hong Kong! Experience exceptional hospitality with friendly staff, spotlessly clean roo - Enjoy a delightful stay in Hong Kong! Experience exceptional hospitality with friendly staff, spotlessly clean rooms, and a prime location for exploring the city.
- Miguel (10/5): "My stay in Hong Kong was simply perfect: friendly staff, immaculate rooms, and a great location!" - Enjoy a delightful stay in Hong Kong! Experience exceptional hospitality with friendly staff, spotlessly clean rooms, and a prime location for exploring the city.
- Jia (9/5): Value for money - Clean, Accessible Aircon is too weak and cannot set temperature, control might be faulty
- Roshan (7/5): Good -
