Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): What a great find - A warm welcome, parking available, room (Norah) was spacious, comfortable and spotless clean. Delicious cooked breakfast.
- daisy (4/5): - Breakfast was a joke. A can of fanta, an apple, a Lidl yoghurt and a pre-packaged mini croissant.
- Sally (8/5): - Lovely 2 night stay, fab breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, would defo recommend and would stay at again as well
- vikki (10/5): - Stunning pub, very friendly, very clean. Food was amazing. Our room was absolutely stunning. Queen bed, furniture was very tasteful. Huge bathroom, very clean and comfortable. 10/10 . Will be back
- John (8/5): Thoughts of a Scottish tourist - Room was excellent and roomy - hotel very central although Holm is a small town but gud variety of bars / entertainment
Breakfast non existent as staff illness apparently
Bit disappointed with no refund as had paid for breakfast
Overall was surprisingly a very enjoyable weekend
- Ian (10/5): - Great room , plenty of space. Ideally located . Couldn’t fault anything !
- Martina (6/5): - It’s “Rooms above a Pub “ Ok . Nice Breakfast . Central Location to Town .
- Andrew (10/5): - Very nice place, the beds were very comfortable.
- Ann (10/5): - Convenient location for the town centre, food was great staff excellent and helpful.
- Diane (10/5): Perfect for visiting Holmfirth - Lovely stay in the heart of Holmfirth. Nice big room at the front. Great breakfast although you only get the cooked breakfast at the weekend.
- John (8/5): - Lovely clean, comfortable and modern room with everything that we needed.
- Georgia (10/5): - Lovely host, lovely room lovely breakfast great location
- David (8/5): Great stay - Rooms fairly basic but clean and functional. Nice bathroom
- Wendy (10/5): Definitely stay again - Friendly atmosphere, luxurious room and excellent breakfast
- Owen (4/5): - The Elephant and Castle in Holmfirth, while aesthetically appealing, falls short in several basic areas. Upon check-in, I was informed that weekday breakfasts were limited to a continental option, though a bacon sandwich was kindly offered and delivered. However, I was required to pay an unexpected £50 deposit for room damages upfront.
The room was exceedingly cold, despite the radiator being on full blast. The towel radiator in the bathroom provided minimal relief but was difficult to operate due to its height. Night one was disrupted by rattling sash windows with loose latches, forcing me to sleep in a T-shirt due to the Arctic-like temperature.
On the second evening, the staff directed me to leave my key in the door and exit via the fire escape the next morning, raising concerns about the deposit return process. Breakfast was unavailable, contrary to prior information. The room lacked turndown service—coffee, biscuits, and the bed were untouched from the previous day.
In the bar, no last orders bell was given, and service abruptly ended at 11 pm without forewarning. The back-of-house areas were disappointing, though the room presentation was commendable. Wi-Fi was limited to the bar area, and poor 4G signal compounded communication issues.
Ultimately, I left for The Bridge Hotel for a proper breakfast and decided to return to my preferred hotel for future visits. A week later, I had to call for my £50 refund; it was not issued voluntarily. While the rooms resemble well-pre
- Paul (6/5): - Room was okay for the price, some communication issues about breakfast, we booked breakfast for 10am not realising that checkout was also 10. I asked if we could pay for a later checkout so that we could allow our breakfast to digest but was bluntly refused. It felt unnecessary as they only have 4 rooms to clean before 3pm. We will not stay there again.
- Steffen (10/5): - Spur of the moment great location and friendly in pub
- alan (10/5): - CleN newly renovated bathroom and room. Tight spaces but worth it.
- TRACY (10/5): Excellent stay - Alison was an excellent host. She made us feel very welcome and even gave us a free upgrade. The room had everything you need and the bed was comfy. Top marks for the breakfast the following morning. Added bonus was the free onsite parking.
- Julia (8/5): - Comfortable room in an excellent location. Lovely breakfast. Being able to park there is an added bonus.
The only drawback was that the Wi-Fi wasn’t accessible in the bedroom.
- Patricia (10/5): - The staff was amazing and very helpful yhe property was very clean and it had everything we needed we will definitely stay here again.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Lovely welcome, lovely room, lovely breakfast, lovely staff, lovely location, 2nd stay and just booked a 3rd...what a find..thanks!
- Graeme (10/5): Will stay here again - Room was lovely, very comfortable,
- Fiona (8/5): Lovely spot - Great stay at The Elephant and Castle. Pub was great, all the staff really friendly.
We organised an early check in, as we where going to a gig at the Picturedrome and the room was ready as we arrived. There is parking at the back of the pub for guests staying with them which is really helpful.
We were made very welcome, by Allison and the team, from the start. We had a late lunch which was delicious. Pub had a good range of beers and drinks.
Room was lovely with a huge comfy bed and full ensuite bathroom. Very clean and spacious. Remarkably quiet through the night to say you are in the middle of Holmfirth.
Breakfast was really nice, a full English with toast and set us up for the day.
Would definitely stay here again.
- Philip (10/5): - The staff very friendly couldn't do enough for you.
Rooms clean
Would stay again
- Neil (8/5): - Very good staff and in a very good position would stay there again
- Michael (10/5): - Lovely rooms, comfy beds , very clean and loved having a choice of tea , coffee or hot chocolate and biscuits in the room , full English breakfast was lovely too. Staff were very helpful and went out of there way to help us with anything we needed .
- Nick (10/5): - Great location, lovely staff, very clean and comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast and a good evening with live entertainment in the bar. A great weekend was had
- Toni (10/5): - We had a lovely stay, the room was clean and had everything we needed. We had lunch and a couple of drinks in the afternoon and there was s great atmosphere. The breakfast was delicious and included in the room rate. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
- Gary (10/5): - Stayed in room 2 fantastic room really enjoyed our stay
Breakfast was piping hot ,staff really helpful
- Stephen (8/5): - I love everything about Holmfirth area its my Sanctuary.
- Amanda (10/5): - Staff were very helpful, room clean although compact. There wasn't much information prior to our stay. I wasn't sure if there was a hairdryer, which there wasnt, which would be useful to know so can take one if needed.
- Joanne (10/5): - Great place to stay very close to Picturedrome. Breakfast was quick and very nice. Would recommend.
- Michael (10/5): - The rooms are very clean and the beds are so comfortable, also the breakfast for very nice . This is our second stay here and we will definitely be returning.
- Paul (8/5): - Had a lovely weekend in Holmfirth staying at The Elephant and Castle. We received a friendly welcome on arrival. We had a fab Sunday lunch prepared by Andy. Food was piping hot, plentiful, and very, very good. And those Yorkshire puds! The room was warn, comfortable, and very clean. It was a great place to stay and very handy for the Picturedrome. Breakfast the next day was served by lovely Libby and again prepared by Andy. Just what we needed to set us up for the day. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be back. Thanks again for a great stay, especially Libby, who was very attentive.
- John (8/5): - Room lovely modern too would go back there again was made to feel welcome by staff.
- Martin (8/5): - Have stayed here several times. Lovely food
Not happy at having to pay extra £50 deposit because of other people damaging things. We now having to wait 3/4 days for this to be refunded which don’t agree with.
- Steven (8/5): Homely - Very Nice
- Debbie (10/5): - Fabulous stay, very clean and cosy room, lovely breakfast. We couldn’t fault our stay. Would definitely stay again
- Denis (8/5): - We really enjoyed our holiday in this hotel ,we will definetly be going back .
- Neil (10/5): Great Spot - Lovely place to stop for a gig in Holmfirth, bang in the centre of town, welcoming and lively pub downstairs, reasonably priced drinks and food, the room was small but cosy, and had everything we needed, including Hot drinks and biscuits, a large tv, and toilet/shower. It was very quiet, and had a great sleep in the comfy bed, breakfast was spot on as well, definitely returning.
- Mark (10/5): - Nice pub, convenient for the concert venue we were attending
- Kevin (10/5): Lovely pub. - Really friendly with a nice cosy vibe...did not try food..but seeing people's plate's arriving looked lovely...Next time !...Lovely pint of Old Peculiar...with warm pork scratching....Heaven...Will definitely be back 😋 👍
- Kevin (10/5): - Staff were all excellent and very friendly. Pub was welcoming and had good selection of drinks, family friendly and great food. The stay exceeded our expectations.
- Janice (10/5): - Would highly recommended this accommodation
Comfortable clean bedroom
Lovely friendly staff
Will be definitely booking again
- Mark (10/5): - Great place and nice people
- Steve (8/5): Return visit - We have used this place several times, the staff are excellent and the location is ideal. Great array of ales and not over priced.parking is on site, overall good value for money.
- DAVID (8/5): - My wife and I were made very welcome by Alison, friendly, quick check in and keen to help with anything. As was the lady that did breakfast which was really nice.
As it is advertised as a "Boutique" B&B, we didn't feel that the room was anything different from other 'ordinary' pub B&B's that we've stayed in, small bedroom, the toilet seat was loose, as was the toilet roll holder and when I mentioned this on leaving, it was said that they were aware of it but it hadn't been fixed, which was a bit surprising.
I think the key bit of feedback for me was that, on arrival, we were informed that we had to pay a £50 deposit in case of any damage during our stay, due to the fact that they had suffered damage from previous guests - I understand that, however, I think that should be made clear on booking e.g. what if people didn't have the additional £50? We were told that it would be refunded, hopefully by the next day but it actually took 3 days for the money to be refunded into our account.
Other than that, an enjoyable stay.
- Wendy (10/5): - Accommodation modern and fresh. Food out of this world. Very friendly staff.
- Jonathan (4/5): - Check in was poor but the room
And breakfast very good
- Michael (10/5): - Really friendly staff very accommodating
Rooms are immaculate and very comfortable
Parking available with room which is very handy in holmfirth
- Andrew (10/5): - Excellent hospitality , couldn’t do enough for you , the room impeccably clean , will be staying there again
- Verified traveler (4/5): Never again - Greeted as we approached the Hotel by loud live band music. Struggled to find someone to check us in. Had to push through crowded dance room with our luggage, then up ill lit stairs. Passed by rooms with piles of dirty towels outside. Our room was adequate, again the lighting was poor. The toilet seat was wobbly, and the toilet roll holder was coming off the wall. Dirty area of skirting board and plug sockets by the kettle table and radiator.
However, the worst aspect of our one night stay, was the incredibly loud live music, right under our room. The thumping drums and bass actually made the furniture vibrate. We were told that the music would finish at 11.30pm. It stopped at 11.45pm, then there was more non live music and the sounds of chairs and tables being dragged and rearranged. Nothing in the hotel description explained there would be extremely loud live music at the hotel. We were tired and needed an early restful night. Instead this was a nightmare scenario. Just wanted to leave in the morning as soon as pssible, so did not stay for breakfast. We will be asking for a major refund.
- Christopher (10/5): Return to Holmfirth for a gig. - Last stayed at the Elephant & Castle 6yrs ago what a pleasant surprise on check-in, completely refurbed. Friendly, helpful staff, room was spotless and very comfortable, great breakfast which catered for my gluten free diet. Will stay again.
- Alan (8/5): - Lovely room, nice staff. Seemed expensive for type of property. Noice from the bar carried up into the bedroom until very late (it was a Saturday). Thought it unusual to be charged a deposit in case of damage, to be refunded to card later.
- Kathy (4/5): - No wi fi in bedroom. Only english breakfast on offer but staff did offer egg alternative. Only one coffee allowed second cup chargeable as other breakfast alternative.
Dedicated parking good. Had a long wait for check in due to staff shortage and busy bar.
- David (10/5): - Great place with carator great food & staff helpful & frendly
Central for town
- Stephen (10/5): - We had a lovely time at the elephant and castle staff wear excellent the room was out of this world would recommend to everyone who is visiting the area
- Kevin john (10/5): - Very nice stay room clean tidy could not fault anything about our 1 night stay very nice full English breakfast done fresh as you order
- Simon (10/5): - Great location ,easy parking and great service. 👍
- Karen (10/5): Lovely stay in Holmfirth - The Elephant and Castle was well located and easy to park. Our room which had a large queen size bed was lovely and had a good size bathroom with a bath. The free full english breakfast was delicious. Will definitely stay there again if we return to Holmfirth
- Rick (10/5): - Very friendly and professional staff.
- Linda (8/5): - Room was small but clean and appeared to have been recently refurbished. Very convenient for the Picturedrome event we were attending. Quite noisy as it was Saturday night but this wasn't a problem for us. Basic cooked breakfast included.
- Ann (8/5): - Stayed here for two nights, staff friendly, room clean, overall a good time
- Yiu (10/5): Friendly and Helpful Staff Members - You have a designated parking spot for you -- you do not need to worry about you do not have any parking on that B&B place. Friendly and helpful staff members -- You have been told and showed how to find the best route when there is an emergency to get out of the hotel immediately with safe information
- Andy (10/5): - Fantastic pub, right next door to Nora Battys cottage. Staff were amazing, rooms were excellent. Couldn't ask for better.
- patrick (10/5): Fabulous! - Convenient location, amazing friendly staff, room was spotless, Sunday lunch was delicious, full English breakfast couldn’t be beaten! Would recommend without hesitation.
- Hollie (10/5): Return guests - This was our second time staying here as we find the place wonderful to stay in! The beds are comfy, parking is ready for us, and the added bonus of being able to return to the room whenever we finish in the town on a night time. Our only feedback is to bring back the breakfast order menus! (We’re both picky eaters so having the option to choose what we do/don’t have was amazing the first time round)
- Sarah (4/5): Disappointing and Over Priced - Chose this hotel over others in Holmfirth due to the claim of parking - there are marked parking bays for the hotel rooms (1-4) however, the “car park” (it’s not really a carpark, it’s parking bays along a road side) is completely open to anyone who wants to park there, it is not enforced as being for guests only, there isn’t even a sign up asking non guests not to park there. We therefore couldn’t use the “on-site parking” at all and our car now has 2 large scrapes down the side which occurred whilst parked on the on-street parking near the property.
The room (junior suite) was very nicely decorated, however the room is not conducive to a restful sleep - old single glazed sash windows providing absolutely no soundproofing whatsoever and the property is situated on the main road. There is also a green light in the ceiling which was exceptionally bright and lit up the entire room to the point where you could clearly see as though the actual lights were on all night.
Other irritating things (that probably wouldn’t be a problem other than feeling ripped off that the promised parking didn’t exist) was there being 1 teabag in the room for 2 people and the staff not knowing where tea bags were kept, and being asked immediately upon check-in what we wanted for breakfast without even being given a menu, and when asked what there was being told “oh usual stuff like bacon and sausage” Unsure why you have to order the afternoon before, nor how you expect people to order without info

- Karen (6/5): Emergency Lighting was too bright! - Nice rooms, comfy bed and friendly staff. Green Emergency Light in the room kept me awake during the night as it was too bright. We had to try and cover it. When pub is open its noisy so wouldn't book if you need an early night.
- Kim (10/5): Fabulous stay! - Great location, room was lovely staff very friendly and breakfast was perfect.
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely clean. Great breakfast x
- Paul (6/5): Nice stay but slight bugs. - Like most hospitality they didn’t seem to have enough staff. The room was good but above the bar area and quite noisy. Breakfast was really good but we were not asked what we wanted we were just given a full English breakfast
There was no questions about allergies or if we were vegetarians.
- Karen (4/5): - No central heating in our room. We were cold and wet after our night out in Holmfirth and ended up with flu for Christmas!
- Steve (10/5): Fabulous Hotel - Lovely, clean, friendly hotel in the centre of Holmfirth. Delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Alice (10/5): Excellent - This is our 4th stay here, it was a nice surprise this year to see the rooms have had a beautiful refurbishment. The towels were soft and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely as well
- Michelle k (10/5): - Lovely stay rooms recently redecorated spacious room with a lovely en suite. Hotel had a live band on which was good . Breakfast was very good and they catered for my dietary requirements all in all excellent stay definitely go back
- c (10/5): Lovely stay - Friendly locals, great location, great ale, lovely real fire.
- Deborah (10/5): Great stay - Rooms have been updated to a good standard which represents good value for money
- mark (10/5): Superb - Great staff, cozy room very convenient location
- Verified traveler (10/5): Will return! - A wonderful little place to stay over the weekend. The room was clean, warm, nicely decorated and cosy. The bathroom was spotless and the kettle in the room for hot drinks was a nice touch. The only issue we had was with the position of one of the single beds being close to the windowsill (the corner of the sill is quite sharp and as a fidgety sleeper I came home with a few bruises from it).
The staff were kind and helpful, and even though the pub below was busy, noise wasn’t an issue at all. The included breakfast was top notch. The backdoor entrance was also very helpful as we stayed out late. Would absolutely stay again 😊
- ANDREW (8/5): - This property was ideally located and all was good there although a little cold.
The breakfast both mornings by Kelly were fantastic, thanks
- Christopher (8/5): - We were attending an event in Holmfirth and found the Elephant & Castle perfectly located. Our room was recently renovated and was clean and crisp, everything literally brand new.
Breakfast was tasty and well made with quality ingredients used, although variety is currently limited due to the kitchen being refurbished.
It’s an old, quirky and traditional pub which we loved and would be happy to stay here again.
- Terry (10/5): - Another great stay at The Elephant&Castle, Alison, Kellie, Libby and Ben made us feel welcome and the service as usual was awesome.
Thank You
- Garry (10/5): Bikers on tour . - Fantastic nights sleep, really comfortable beds in a nice room. Excellent customer relations and a quality breakfast. Really good location, the Picturedome is a three minute walk away.

- M (10/5): Room for the night - Very nice stay. Room was small but everything you need for the night. Clean and nicely decorated. Steep stairs to access room so tricky for someone with mobility problems. Gluten free breakfast was a lovely surprise.
