Guest Reviews
- Guy (2/5): - The pub is all but closed, restaurant and bar not open during my stay. Breakfast included is boxes of cereal in room. Bathroom not that clean, shower in poor condition. Decor very tired. Fair amount of road noise and you can easily hear the owner creaking around upstairs
- Roger (4/5): - Pub closed at 2000 but notice on door to phone. Landlord friendly. Breakfast was tea/coffee in the room plus bowl of cereal. Bed was comfortable but the whole place is long overdue for cleaning, decorating and general upgrade. I guess it's what you might expect for the price! 😜
- Gabriela (6/5): - George was really nice and welcoming , but the room smelt very stale and not very clean unfortunately
- Proton (2/5): Avoid - The room smelt of sewage, the owner/server was unhelpful and they did not serve food despite the fact the site saying they had a restaurant. The smell was that overpowering i had to stay in another establishment
- David (4/5): Unacceptable standard - Very disappointing stay. Room musty and unclean. Bathroom unclean and shower either freezing or far too hot to use. Sold as breakfast included with wifi and tv - breakfast means a box of ceral in the room with a toaster but no bread? Wifi intermittent and eventually not available and tv not working. Surprised a room of this quality is listed on your site.
- Verified traveler (4/5): George Inn WW - Hotels.com need to visit this property. It doesn't do food, breakfast is a choice of packets of cereal. Not the experience we expected.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value - Lovely host. Charming little room. Free onsite parking. Comfy bed. Perfect for a night to crash and great value.
- Tim (2/5): Don’t stay here - I am not normally someone to complain but I was very disappointed with this accommodation that I need to warn others. I booked in an Inn expecting to be able to get an evening meal but the place was deserted, run down and the room cold and dirty. The breakfast consisted of a choice of three small cereal boxes with. Self made. Tea and coffee in the room. The worst thing was the sheets appeared to have been already slept in and were stained and the duvet was so thin it was like sleeping under a sheet. I had to get dressed and put my coat on the get warm. This is probably the worst place I have ever stayed in and at £65 was a complete rip off even £25 would have been expensive.
- Claire (4/5): Sack the cleaner. Needs a good clean. - As lovely as you are Graham I think it's time to hang up the gloves. Please sack your cleaner!. Using bleach in the bathroom before I arrived was great but it didn't excuse the filthy shower or everything covered in dust or the stains on the sheets. If you were to get your other eye fixed you may actually see how bad it is. I have photo's however lucky for you they won't upload
- Kevin (2/5): Do not book - Arrived on Sunday 20th Oct after a 5half hr drive to find no one in pub except landlord .Asked about food and was told there is no food ..asked about breakfast told it’s in your room
Cereal plus milk in fridge
No bowls or cups were changed in 2 days
Traffic noise with lorries going past all night just outside bedroom window on ground floor with no curtains just a paper thin blind
The noise was unbearable so left and booked in somewhere else
People need to be aware this place is really been run into the ground and the noise you just cannot sleep
Not worth £40 for 4 nights let alone £260
Disgusting
Kevin
- David (10/5): Great little place! - Very happy with the room and facilities, very friendly owner and extremely comfy bed. The only downside was there was no phone signal in the area, but that also meant i had no distractions for the evening! So not so bad.
It also had great parking right outside the room.
Great price too for what you get. Highly recommended.
- Jeremy (4/5): - The room had a nasty smell. The toilet seat was loose and slipped sideways when I sat on it, in order to stop myself from falling I had to step into the cobwebs under the sink. The shower was hot and powerful, but the shower head was rusty and caked in calcium deposits. Everything in the room was run down, in need of decoration or just grubby.
The room was advertised as "Breakfast included" the breakfast was a choice of 3 individual packets of cornflakes and a pint of milk.
The mattress was hard and a bit lumpy.
There was no wi-fi or mobile phone signal.
When I left on the second morning there was nobody available to return the key to, so I had to post it through the letter box in the front door of the pub (which had been closed the evening before)
- sheryn (8/5): - Bathroom sink could be cleaned . Old toothpaste marks. An updated shower head would help. No toiletries are supplied if you've made an unplanned stopped.
- Deborah (2/5): - Very tired and dirty! We will never stay there again! Paid £80 and I personally wouldnt even stay if it was offered for £10!
- G (2/5): Property closed - When i arrived at the property
The lights was off
So i didnt stay .
Plesse can i have a refund?
- robin (4/5): - Nice pub but the rooms are next door ... and mine smelled - damp (and a bit worse). Tired furnishings, noisy road just outside. Unless they have other rooms elsewhere, I'm baffled at the current rating.
- Simon (10/5): - Excellent, clean room
- Don (4/5): Watch out! - Very poor quality. Not clean, even had cobwebs. Dirt around sink. Needs a repaint and refurbishment. Tired and old furnishings. Breakfast was cereal, yogurt and a loaf of sliced bread in a fridge resting on a windowsill. No wi fi.
Landlord was though friendly. A character who talked disparagingly and openly about others to a stranger like myself.
- michael (6/5): - This pub was operating as a b and b only, the bar was shut and no restaurant. Both of these should have been available and I booked on that basis. Fortunately there was a nearby alternative which was excellent. The(included) breakfast was a DIY affair with bread and butter in the fridge and a toaster available together with a small selection of cereals. Not impressed.
- Vimbayi (10/5): - It's just quite and I really like the service I got from the staff. The bar is very beautiful and the beer is just affordable. Keep up the best standards . Hopefully I come back again soon.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great place to stay for Bath’s Christmas Market - Lovely setting and perfect distance from one of the Bath Park-and-Rides for the Christmas Market and Bath City. The host also recommended Cheddar Christmas Market but, sadly, we didn’t have time for that on top of our other plans. The shower is a long way short of a power shower but you could happily get clean. A wall-mounted electric heater is provided to top up on the central heating and breakfast is self-catering but all services for tea and toast are provided in-room.
I would stay again but would prefer the shower to be upgraded.
- Vimbayi (10/5): - I really enjoyed the warm welcome from the manager. And the place is just quite and safe. Hopefully I will call again soon. Keep Up that best standard you have and I don't hesitate to refer friends. Thank you very much for a nice service.
- april (6/5): Alright - OK as a stopover but we did get the impression we were not expected. Sunday lunch advertised but no meals and none in the evening. Breakfast was in the room with cereal and toast and nothing else.
- Ruth (2/5): - Not as advertised
- Tobie (2/5): - Room smelt of damp and was like a scene from the 80s wasn’t very clean and everything looked like it had been cover in smoke. Overall the stay wasn’t too bad for a quick stopover but I wouldn’t recommend if your looking for a quality hotel
- Felix (4/5): - Despiete the cute and polite staff, the room was not clean, there were spiders.
- Jamie (2/5): - We couldn’t park the car for 45 minutes, bloodstained, duvet, stain on pillows, shower cubicle wasn’t clean. The bathroom wasn’t clean, dust everywhere, breakfast wasn’t good if we stayed. We didn’t stay.
- David (2/5): - The room was not clean and very cold no
full Breakfast
- David (8/5): - Used crockery not changed, very limited in room breakfast.
- Stephen (10/5): Great for an overnight stop! - Graham was fabulous, I arrived quite late as travelled down from Leeds, I was made very welcome and he even offered to cook me something although kitchen had closed.
The room is a little dated but has everything you need, including continental breakfast and a fridge.
- Patricia (8/5): Great staff - Great staff really friendly and accomadating. Everything we needed was there.
- Karen (10/5): - Easy check in personal service from the owner who checked me in, served beer and food in the bar.
- Simon (2/5): Never Again - We checked in at the bar and paid.
We were then tacken to the room which was of resenable size. The room its self was not the best we had been in but we could not stay once we had seen the bathroom.
We got straight on the phone but found we had no internet so drove up the road to find some. Started looking for somewere else to stay.
New hotel found drove back and checked out within the hour.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Staying at The George - We had a lovely evening meal made by the landlord, who was accommodating, providing us with extra veg when asked. The room was in a house very nearby and even though it was quaint and had character and age it was disappointing as it felt a bit damp, was a bit dirty in places and had some cobwebs. We expected breakfast to be a cooked breakfast in the pub like our previous stay in an annexe of a pub a few days previously. Breakfast at the George was in the bedroom and was cereal, bread (for which a toaster was provided) and spreads, along with yoghurts.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - With some cleaning to remove mould and dirt it could rate much higher. Food and bar service was good. Bedding and towels fresh and clean. Photos on website do not match room. Expedia said full breakfast, was cereal and bread with out of date spread.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very friendly and welcoming local pub. We felt at home immediately. Good food at reasonable prices and the room was excellent value. Convenient location for a number of cities and major towns.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very welcoming but room little tired & shower too
- Katie (10/5): Pre-race Stay - My boyfriend and I stayed here the night before the Bath half marathon. I needed somewhere not too far away from the event.
This place was lovely and I’d definitely recommend it! The staff were lovely and friendly. The locals in the pub were also very welcoming.
The food was what I’d call proper pub food. Decent sized meals and the perfect fuel for running!
The room had multiple heaters that you could turn on and off as you desired (perfect for a woman that loves the heat). The bed was comfy and I had the perfect nights sleep before the race.
The room had a fridge with yoghurt and milk. There was a toaster and large selection of cereal. This was so much more convenient for me as I knew I’d be up before most hotels even served breakfast. If I do the bath half again, I’ll be back!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Due to being booking error it was wrong hotel. Staff within two minutes of arrival said "if you don't like it you can leave, see you then!" Wife and i left within 5 minutes
- Melanie (6/5): Quaint, comfortable but a little overpriced. - The welcome was lovely and friendly. We had a suite, no bath and breakfast was included. This comprised of cereal and we had s fridge with bread, milk and butter. The bed itself was very comfortable and clean. Unfortunately the WiFi did not work and die to the nature and she of the building I really struggled to get data. I had an online exam to do which after sitting up until 11pm watching it buffer, I gave up then sat in the van in the morning. You will not get internet here.
We ate in the pub and this was lovely and the staff very helpful. I think the charge of £80 for the night was a little high. I'd expect to pay £65/£70 for what we got. Though there is little choice in the area. We were diving at Vobster Quay so wanted to be as close as possible. I would stay there again, just not expect to get internet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Large sized room and clean, comfy bed.
Could have done with a cobweb sweep beforehand and WiFi/ phone reception pretty patchy due to it being an old property.
Overall fine though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Graham was a welcoming host and would certainly stay again because of how homely the place felt. The room was traditional and perfect for a nights stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property should never be responsibly marketed .The room I was given was a converted outhouse. The furniture consisted of a table, bed and two ill matched chairs in a scruffy and shabby room. The sort of furniture you would see being thrown out of the back of a charity shop.
There was no breakfast to speak of..a mini fridge in the room had a part consumed cheapest white sliced loaf with a tub of cheap spread already opened by the last unfortunate .I suppose you were expected to put this into the dirty toaster for your breakfast. If you wanted cereal then there was a grubby little box of cornflakes...couldn't check the sell by date as it was in Arabic!!!
The television was tuned to a French channel and couldn't be altered as the remote didn't work.
Forget about any wardrobe or chest of drawers.
Two hooks on the back of the door. Not asign of a coathanger anywhere.
The carpet was cheapest 1970 s .There was no phone,no internet,no hairdryer no iron no nothing.
As for the bathroom ...just don't go there.
If you like your room a real fire hazard then this is for you.A complete absence of signs, electrical cables everywhere and the smoke. alarm covered in cling film.
A very memorable experience...one to try to forget.Your worst nightmare.
Appalling rip off.
- Canada (8/5): - too far from Bath bus did not run on Sunday bathroom was rough needed to be upgrated very old
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Room was not the cleanest especially the bathroom bed was clean and comfortable breakfast was cereals and toast toaster provide milk bread and spread in a fridge spread was full of toast crumbs
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Please open windows before customer arriving to give some air into the place, so it smells fresh. Overall it’s amazing, cooked breakfast should be included for £80 though. But never mind the hotel did the job for us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nothing. Very disappointed. Room cold and damp. Early breakfast too much trouble.
- Adrian (10/5): - Small rooms but really nice. Very comfortable beds. Could do with new shower cubicle though
- eckyjeck (8/5): excellent food - I had supper and breakfast at the George and both were excellent. My Gluten Free diet was catered for very well. I can recommend the George for its quality of food.
- Zoe (8/5): Lovely little Pub - A lovely pub where we were made to feel welcome. Having boxes of cereal, fresh milk & yogurts in your room was a nice little added extra along with being able to have a gorgeous breakfast in the restaurant. Food was lovely & nothing was too much trouble. Great base point to visit local city’s like Wells & Bath & not far from Cheddar Gorge.
- Dean (4/5): - Very poor Inn. Not a 3 star Inn by any means dirty bathroom. the only 1 nice thing about this Inn was the beer.
- NOREEN (6/5): - It was an old placeand the main areas were well kept. Staff was very nice and breakfast was great. Thanks Graham. The rooms need a little Tlc. Basically looks clean but the corners and behind doors need closer attention. Were in a very old place this evening and very clean.
- James (2/5): - Arrived 14:15. ordered a snack of fish finger sandwich, after biting in to the fishfinger, the fish, instead of being white and moist, was a dark grey colour. my partner. after seeing what I had, didn't touch hers. we sent it back but were still charged for it. My partner then asked to see the room and 5 minutes later came back absolutely disgusted and said i'm sorry but I can't stay here. There was used towels on the bathroom floor. We then had the problem of finding accommodation at very short notice on a Friday evening. This caused a lot of stress at the start of our weekend away, which in turn caused quite a lot of friction in the car. Very Disappointed.
- Warren (2/5): - Graham the manager is very friendly and probably a very nice person. That can’t be said for the accommodation at the George. The previous night we were fortunate to stay at an amazing restored, grade 2 listed building, for £90.00 with a full English breakfast. It was an absolute shock to arrive at the George, a so called continental breakfast, consisting, choice of 6 packets of cereal, 2 tubs of yoghurt and litre of milk in the fridge. There were three central heating units in the room, only one worked and we had to prop the bathroom door open at night to allow the heating from the one working heater to penetrate the bathroom. At some stage in the night, the power went out so there was no heating or power to operate the shower water heater or heat the kettle. Needless to say, it was disappointing. If Graham is to provide accommodation, could I suggest he make some improvements to his rooms. I certainly would not recommend The George Inn.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Conveniently located for our journey
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Made very welcome by Hannah, great food served in a very friendly pub, very comfortable stay and I would recommend you stay here.
