- ANGUS (8/5): - Excellent location, large rooms, excellent views from upper floors, staff and manager pleasant and helpful
- Justine (10/5): - Great location! Inside the UNESCO heritage zone, lots of local eateries nearby, public transportation and other attractions. Great budget-friendly option in the heart of Penang! The hotel decor is a little dated but overall nice and clean, with comfortable beds.
- SEE BENG (4/5): - No shampoo or body lotion
- Lily Siew Gek (6/5): - No kettle ,noisy nightclub nearby and many mosques close by calls to prayers are very loud. The hotel is close to eating places
- Andrew (10/5): - Its an older establishment so definitely not modern. However the rooms are large, great view, good beds, AC, fridge. I will return here for sure.
- SUPORN (10/5): - -

- Noraini (8/5): - Near the Nasi Kandar Restoran, Easy to walkable. Need to improve for the Iron place (Put I floor for one iron). Please change the torn toilet curtain.
The family room is big.
- Teh Soon (4/5): - Too bad, no hairdryer and electric kettle provided.
- CYNTHIA (6/5): - This place is old and outdated.
Bring your in house slippers, carpet is very old and stained.
Clean in the sense that no roaches or other insects.
Bathroom was updated with newer tiles but There are still some mold around the sink area.. don’t understand why they don’t remove it.
- Mohd Ariff (10/5): - Rooms ant nice and clean. Location is great with lots of places to eat and also entertainment
- Noor Sabrina (10/5): - Everthing is awlesome about the property. I'll make sure that I'd stay there when I go to Penang and surely to recommend to my relatives and friends
- Poo Ng (6/5): - Very old furniture
- wong chee (6/5): - The single biggest selling point of this hotel is the guarded
car park.
- Mike (8/5): light sleepers take heed - good location right near love lane. nice big room, decent bed and love the wetroom style bathroom. pack ear plugs if your a light sleeper, I was on 7th floor but music from bar outside was prominent
- Shamin (8/5): - Vintage style hotel, wooden furnitures, everything was fine for a stay. Location is good. Recommend to visit nearby cafe: Forest Cloud
- Eileen (8/5): - Fixed the shower which wasnt draining. Helpful.
A cleaner took my phone charger cable. By accident?
- Santha (10/5): - Very near to chowrasta and walking distance to restaurants and shopping area. Parking no a problem most of the time
- Noor Sabrina (10/5): - The room was so nice and the staff were very cooperativr
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Friendly and helpful staff, however, the Internet was extremely poor.
- Tim (6/5): Room good, but too many problems - The room itself was fine. Large, and with views over the city. But ...
The shower was only lukewarm.
The TV had only 5 channels, none were English language.
The fridge was wired into the same circuit as the lights, so it turned off when I removed the key to leave the room. When I returned at the end of the day, all the stuff in the fridge was warm, and also sitting in a pool of water because the icebox had defrosted.
The aircon turned itself off every few hours for no apparent reason, requiring a manual reset.
- Haslinda (10/5): - All is good
- ahmed (8/5): Good value - Very correct, everything ok, it's not luxury but a casual hotel which needs may be some refreshment a bit outdate.
I would suggest to choose a room facing the harbour and the sea, opposite the main entrance because on the other side you will hear the sound boom boom boom, infra bass from the nightclub across the street 'till 2 am at least. I was there during the week so I can't say for the we.
- Penelope (6/5): -
No ac above 8th floor
- lee sen (6/5): - Television not functioning .
No coffee/Tea and boiling pot .
No Aircond at the reception floor
Why Rm 2 tax add on daily ?.
All Staff are very helpful and polite.Reply what can you improve my previous stay since December 2021. None improvement ?.
- ABDUL MAJEED BIN ABU BAKAR (6/5): - Only some rooms light not very bright
- Ahmad (10/5): - Good
- ABDUL MAJEED BIN ABU BAKAR (6/5): - But parking still have problem due the parking in charge no properly reserve place parking
- anthonylM3604GJ (2/5): Bad experiences twice over - Very bad experiences repeatly each time I check in with my spouse.. My bad luck each of my visits being attended to by a very rude and disrespectful woman, who works the afternoon shift. Really lacking of manners and judging her age being not that young, I doubt a good training will do any good to improve her PR. It makes one wonder how this hospitality business can prosper with a thorn in it.
- Art (10/5): Good location good price - Oriental Hotel is in the middle of George Town, everything there is within a walking distance, clean and neat. The front desk lady, Pheylliiezz, was welcoming and friendly and most helpful with tons of info about town. Will stay there again. Thank you very much!
- Julie (6/5): Alot of renovation works needs to be done! - It is one of the oldest hotel but the bathroom and room flooring are well done. TV set only limited to 2 channels as the rest of channels are mute and very poor quality transmission etc. Limited amenities on a small fridge n 2 bottles of water no boiler for hot water. Cupboard in room very dull n old only did paint works to look new but dusty n dirty.
- FIKRI NORAZIZ BIN NOR (8/5): - Ok
- TEE ENG (10/5): - Location
- ABDUL MAJEED BIN ABU BAKAR (2/5): - parking is available but parking guards for outsiders by taking payment, that's why the end to the hotel can not park. When asked the hotel manager they said who came first he could park the car but they did not know that the car parking guard for outsiders with payment.Paking guard needs to change.Better don't come this hotel if attitude it no change.
- Bin Sung (4/5): - Hotel Oriental in George Town Penang is totally run down. No warm water supplied. Bathroom curtain can see through from outside. Only one single power plug available in each room. I won't recommend this hotel to friends and relatives!
- ABDUL MAJEED BIN ABU BAKAR (8/5): - Good room..near by city
- Alvin (10/5): - My room was big and clean with great views. Love the air conditioning and modern bathroom. Location wise was excellent – easy to get to food outlets and tourist spots. I was also able to walk to local shops and a shopping mall. Staff were friendly too. I would come back again.
- Justin (10/5): - Great place to stay – I can easily walk to the heritage sites. I am a foodie and I love being able to walk to the best Penang food outlets and then go shopping! I find the hotel nice and clean – the room looks renovated because it has nice modern air conditioning, bathroom and floor. The staff was very helpful in giving me directions.
- Edmund (4/5): - Very dirty, the carpet is full of dust.
- KC (8/5): - Central location
Frindly staff. Well worth the price. I'd stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value for money - 5-15 mins walk to most things we wanted to check out in Georgetown area. Really good price and in a safe building with 24-hour friendly front desk. Downsides: quite noisy at night cos it’s located in a busy/ lively area; the room is basic with a few issues (broken lightbulbs, very thin towels). You need your own shampoo and shower gel. Overall good value for the money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No extra small electrical appliances provided such as kettle, iron & etc
- jaimejohn (6/5): Not Recommended if you're coming with kids - Rooms were ok, clean but it was too hot. You need to wait at least 30 mins, before you can feel the air conditioner, Staffs were friendly. There's a pub right opposite this hotel and the heavy music went on and on till 3 am. Not recommended if you're coming with kids
- Tan (2/5): - SO MANY COCKROACHES IN THE T
ROOM! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! Ana the aircon IS NOT WORKING! when asked the receptionist they say the aircon is normal! WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The location is good. Clean & comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - worth the value
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointed - Damn hot the whole night with no cold air from the air cond. No shower gel & shampoo provided. No breakfast provided but shown inclusive breakfast while make booking.
.
- FedoriGregori (6/5): 3 star - Visit this place many times on border visa from Thailand. Nothing to change. Old hotel in Georgetown. But clean inside.
Smart stuff. Speak English well.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner it buffet. Quality of food not so good.
Price cheap. For sleeping only 1-3 days.
- HenryBeard1282 (10/5): Quality Budget Hotel - I went to Penang for a week with my family and stayed at this hotel. Very cheap and affordable for anyone looking for a budget hotel to stay at. The location is very good as its located very close to all the tourist locations. Definitely, recommend!
- Jimmy (8/5): - Price is reasonable for a family room. Recently renovated. Like the new outlook of toilet. Only thing is sometimes noise from night activities along Penang road is quite annoying.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Always happy at Oriental Hotel! - I am always happy to stay at Oriental Hotel. All the staff, from the front desk to the room maintenance, are courteous, efficient, and friendly. The place is clean and well-maintained, view from window is great! My favorite things about the room are the calm colors and decor, large refrigerator, and a real desk with chair, much appreciated by those of us using laptops!
- FAEZAH (8/5): - in future kindly provide prayer mat (sejadah) for Muslim since this is Malaysia. put at the counter will do so we can just request from you.
the room was spacious, bed was comfy, bathroom was clean and spacious. nice view & shower. got limited private parking on 1st come 1st serve basis just opposite the hotel. surrounded by food, very near to rapid penang bus stop & can get the free rapid bus from there. the lack of this hotel just no wifi in my room and can hear loud music from nearby club until 3am. after all, we had a great stay here.
- Seri (10/5): - Nice hotel
- Frank (2/5): - Noisy at nights, no phone in room, bed lining old , need upgrade.
- Irzam (8/5): - Old hotel but nice because they already upgrade their facilities. No need to use vehicle to find attraction and food. My family love it.
- chew (2/5): - cant sleep well due to the noisy and loud speaker from arena clubbing which is just opposite of the hotel.. the music base cause the window feel like shaking and breaking
- Haziq (8/5): - Had a great stay here, the bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean, and the room was quite spacious. But most importantly, EVERYTHING is accessible by foot here, be it food stalls, restaurants, tourist attractions, which made my stay even more enjoyable. There is also a parking space provided for hotel guests, whis is a very big plus.
- Vic (4/5): Hotel surrounded by eateries of various varieties. - The staffs are no good. When I cheked in,3 front desk staffs pushing each other right infront of me in possessing my checking in. One even tell the other "do your work la"....
- Sandy (4/5): - Don’t do it at any cost. There is bugs everywhere and managment refuses to acknowledge it. Please use your money somewhere else.
- Badrol (8/5): Close to everything - Great location, close to everything except maybe the beach, food is everywhere, shops is everywhere and public transportation and attractions is very near. Hotel is old school but the staff and location compensate that. Internet is very very weak .
- W7908REmarkt (6/5): Oriental hotel - Oriental hotel located in Penang road is nearby to food stall n hawker n also pub n bistro. Oriental hotel is reasonable price n no breakfast but if you want to eat n enjoy yourself with the local food n night life the hotel is suaitable for you cos its nearby to what happening. Opposite the hotel One min walk I strongly recommend to you to have soup lambing at night n it very delicious resonable price. In the morning opposite the hotel you find a coffee shop offer you loh bak etc. porridge are good n price are resonable.so when you are here just pop in this coffee shop n try.
- W2548VRbob (6/5): Loud construction - Jackhammers and loud construction going on through 2017. Stay at this hotel is unbearable. Stayed at this hotel for many years but will have to look for new hotel. All of the rooms now hear the construction going on tearing up floors and using heavy equipment. This goes on from 10 to 6:30
- safwanlim (6/5): Triangle shaped hotel - By the corner.. a triangle shaped hotel...between jalan penang...jalan chulia...a business class hotel ..stragetic location either for food and other entertainment one could find. Room service is available should one unable to come out to buy food...or other purposes. With the friendly services one could choose to stay for days..either by weekly or monthly depending on availability for rooms.
- cdw277 (10/5): Great night in Georgetown - Spent a great night at the Oriental Hotel.. great location, very friendly customer service, and very reasonably priced. Very nice views out over the city. Simple but very good quality hotel. Many thanks.
- DylaZ88 (6/5): Strategic Location - Walking distance to attractive location like Uptown Museum, Sup Hameed, Nasi Kandar Line Clear and many more...you save your time walking to these places instead of stuck in 'well-known' traffic in Penang..
Friendly staff and clean room..tq for the hospitality
- M4xSm4rt (4/5): Very friendly but also a bit pubey - Having waded through various home stays and lodges I was comforted by the very warm welcome of the friendly staff at the Orient and booked on that alone. The room was all you need (very basic) and in spite of reception saying wifi is available but not guaranteed it was perfectly fine with a strong signal in my room and fall back options to sign into in case of weak signal. The street noise can be overbearing at times and also the call to prayer speaker is right beside the hotel, though nothing earplugs or noise reductive headphones can't silence. I returned 2 days later for another night and was given a room in a quieter part of the hotel. I soon discovered there are no quiet parts. The mark against this friendly hotel was that the sheets hadn't been changed and I discovered hair all through both beds and marks on the sheets that covered a stained mattress. I discovered too late after a night out so didn't managed to get it rectified. I scrubbed myself clean with the free soap in the morning.
- Lee (6/5): Value for money - The hotel building and furniture are old and not use to it on the first day. But the room is spacious and staffs are friendly.
Big value for money.
- FarHana3117 (8/5): Great Hotel - Stayed here last week for 2N. Great Location. Near to Padang Kota, just 20 min drive to Penang Hill, 10 min drive to ferry terminal,10 min drive to Komtar and Penang Time Square. Next building is Glow in the dark museum that has just opened on 27th May 2016. The hotel is very strategic located in the centre of Georgetown. Spacious room with bathtub and strong hot shower, very friendly reception. Mr.Dino took my booking through phone call. He is very attentive.Thank you. Stayed with my family at room 611 and 609. The housekeeping staff also very friendly and helpful. thank you. Keep up the good work.
- YUSOF (6/5): The front line staff at reception friendly - I ask for top up liquid soap on my 2 night for shower but, was turn down and given a small bar of soap by the 2nd shift staff
- azur602016 (10/5): Old School character - Although this hotel may not look particularly promising from the street, for me it was a welcome contrast to the over-priced 'heritage' backpacker haunts that seem to pre-dominate in Georgetown nowadays. This is a real hotel, with wonderful uniformed staff who run the place with true professionalism and style. The place is slightly faded, which I rather liked, but is scrupulously clean and has everything a more expensive hotel would provide - all in working order with no fuss, There is excellent free wifi. My room was very quiet on a higher floor with huge picture windows looking seawards across the rooftops, It even had an enormous bathtub. An excellent position from which to watch the Chinese New Year fireworks, and from which to find almost everything within walking distance. Again the staff really made the place with their helpfulness, humour and friendliness. I will always stay here on future visits.
- klepot (8/5): Great location, spacious room, affordable price, good and knowledgable staff - Great location with famous eateries, convenience shop, pubs and other attraction nearby. Our room in 10th floor insulated us from noise, give us panoramic view . Room is spacious but a bit old, the bathroom is okay, aircond functioning well but the tv channel have bad reception. The staff are very attentive and polite, they also are very knowledgeable about the surrounding attraction. Parking is free. If one thing they missed is the Internet, please provide free wifi. Overall is wonderful stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): Location is good, hotel need do some renovation - The room look old, need do some renovation. No remote control for TV, Air Con take quite a while to become cold. Wifi was slow.
- TAN (6/5): convenient - Comfortable
- ET3121 (8/5): Enjoyable 2 night stay - Great affordable hotel in the centre of town. Staff where very knowledgable about sights and great eats in Penang. Room was good without being great. My tip is to take a rickshaws from hotel and explore close by sights.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall was okay. - Overall the stay was okay. The staffs were quite nice and friendly. The room was in moderate condition, not dirty but not very clean. It was abit hard to get drinking water as it does not provide kettle, we had to get the drinking water from another floor. Parking space was not sufficient, we had to park outside the parking space and pay the parking fees ourselves.
- Raja (8/5): Strategic and accessible to other places - Always have a comfortablr snd non hassle stay in this hotel
- miriamb618 (6/5): Great location but quite noisy - We had been wandering Georgetown for a while looking for a room with a private bathroom in the largely backpacker dominate area of Georgetown. The oriental was good value at 120RM for a double and the rooms were spacious and clean if a bit dated.
Our main issue with the hotel was the constant traffic noise that went on all night even though we were on the 7th floor. As a result we only stayed one night and decided to move to a place off the main road for a next few days.
- SaSuFinland (6/5): Good location, spacious rooms, starts to need updating... - The location of the hotel is very good, walking distance from ferry, shopping mall and restauranges.
The rooms have seen their best days but serve a traveller still well. Staff is helpfull, always someone in the reception speaks fluent english. They arrange trips and tickets and take very low comission for the trouble.
Higher floors have better view to the city and sea.
Lift is noisy so ask not to be close to it.
- abd jalil (6/5): - Fair
- ARSLAN (6/5): Oriental hotel - Old hotel but still comfort n riable price
- Norhayati (8/5): Good stay.... - Overall it was good.....
- elmarr2016 (8/5): Oriental Hotel great value for the money - October 2015 . I spent here two Nights in this Hotel . It is a little bt older , clean , but the Room was nice , new Floor , new Painting . AC , WIFI , TV , Refrigerator and a wunderfull view over the City . The Staff was very friendly and helpfull , i felt to be welcome . The Hotel is located in the Centre , they are plenty of Coffeshops and Restaurants , Shops , Taxis and Rickshaws . In walking Distance you will find some Bars , nice old chinese Houses . The Price is Top , you will get a great Value for your Money .
- mariadass (8/5): - It was a brief stay and pleasent trip with a comfort hotel
- leelyy (4/5): Low budget with just overnight 1-2 days - Basic 2 star hotel, very old Hong Kong style. If you're a washroom person then this might not suit you, toilet bowl cannot flush smoothly. Try avoid room near to lift, very noisy at late night and early morning. Very limited parking space and first come first serve basic, even road side also very limited parking space.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average hotel - The hotel maybe not enough staff, we serve ourselves to get water. But, it is not bad to us, as we able to get the water as many as we want!
One of the room, the spring of the bed was broken and we couldn't slept well.
Room is clean but too old.
- VadimAsia (8/5): Hotel with very friendly staff - Stayed for 4 nights. Hotel with very friendly staff. Bugs (old plumbing in the bathroom) is compensated by the low price. There Is Wi Fi. Located near bus stops and tourist and CAT. From the port easy to reach by bus 101
- Verified traveler (6/5): Worth the stay - Short business stay. Good location in Georgetown. It was an old hotel but still well maintained. The room I got is quite spacious & even has a bath tub in the bathroom. Furniture is a bit old but since I was there just for 1 night, I had no complains. Value for money.
- Jasmin Bin (10/5): nicely and fun - Very comfortable and very friendly front staff.
- hasirah (6/5): trip to Penang, Malaysia. - this hotel too old, but the serounding quite ok. A lot of foods to eat.
- Tony (4/5): Speechless - I went here for a business trip. Long story cut shorts, what I seen in photos is NOT what i see in the hotel itself. Their hotel services is average. Hotel condition is very bad. Because I've arranged to sleep one floor above the construction floor. The hygiene, forget it. Conclusion, will be last time check-in this hotel.
- Ho (6/5): fair rate with big room and good location - Location near food centre, easy transportion
- Ho (8/5): good location and fair values - good location and fair values
- edward ng (4/5): Very conveniently located - Book for 3 persons to a room. Provide 1 queen size bed and 1 small bed with little space for manouvre. The tv not clear. Room not comfortable. No cupboard
- jason (6/5): Oriental Hotel budget & affordable. Oriental Hotel - It's a vintage hotel with modern facilities. The staffs there were seniors with experience. it has a nice city view at our room. it has all the basic equipment. It's a vintage hotel with modern facilities. - mw (2/5): Being rated 2 star is seriously overrated!! - Booked and paid (even specially requested) for non smoking floor and given a smoking floor. The receptionist just don't bother about my concern on smoking floor and just mentioned that it's first come first served. The room condition is poor with the bed, toilet, fridge, etc were all darn old. Felt eerie entering the room. The door knob to the room came out and it took a few hours for them to decide to give me another room. I would recommend to top up another 100 for a much better room with better facilities and service.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent and well kept - Decent hotel. Old but well maintained except for the surrounding area. Got RM30 car park summon although valid parking coupons were displayed on my car's dashboard - and on Sunday morning!! All hail MPPP!
- silvester chung (4/5): hotel can not be rated as 3 star - Stay for 4 nights.only room 807 satisfactory but too cold. Some rooms no shower curtain.
no slipper and i have to buy it myself.
