- Sean (8/5): - The Hotel Villa San Francisco was delightfully charming with gracious and accommodating staff. The front patio, entry, and courtyard are well maintained and welcoming. I actually liked the Hotel -- however the one complaint I had, was the Safari room, which we stayed. It was a fairly basic layout that served our needs. However, 1. The bathroom was in need of major repairs. The bath tub was "soft", suggesting rot directly under the tub. It was also stained and poorly kept. The shower curtain was about 3 years past usable, and absolutely should be replaced (burned). 2. The Queen Bed (main room) needs a new mattress. It is partially collapsed/tilting towards the floor on one side. I did see into another room being made up, and it was clear the Safari room, may be the outlier. All-in-all, I enjoyed the Hotel.

The rooms were clean and the service was friendly. My husband and I had a wonderful couples massage for $80. We will definitely return.

- KENT (10/5): - This hotel is on the one of the main streets in Chapala and directly across from the lake. It is charming and an older building with a large veranda on the front. It is here that one has breakfast and it overlooks the front garden and the road. The room was spacious and I had a king size bed. It was comfortable and I like a firm bed. Someone had been smoking in the washroom as there was a faint odor that I could detect every time I entered. The staff was excellent and very attentive. Breakfast was as stated and omelets or eggs, pancakes etc. with coffee, juice and fruit. There is a small pool out back set in a spacious and well appointed garden area. There is also a small bar out back. I recommend this place but do not expect a Hilton or a Marriott. It is a quaint, nice hotel in a small town.

- MLG (8/5): - This property is located at a perfect place in Chapala. The property itself is beautiful and location is key. However, the staff is not so friendly. We had various issues from, the sofa bed being broken to a shower overflowing. We were given new rooms but it was with attitude as if it were our fault. Staff really needs to be trained on customer service. I treat everyone with respect and expect the same from others.

Across the street from the Chapala malecon. Walking distance to food, bars, laundry service, and transportation. Highly recommended for first time visitors. Only downside is the church bells ringing every hour.

The garden with the flowers was very pretty. Could provide electrical heaters for when temperatures dips to the 40's.It was a bit chilly. Mosquitoes in the room.
- JAY RUTH (4/5): It’s the Worst villa suite we’ve ever stayed in!! - I specifically reserve the villa suite so my hubby can use the jacuzzi tub, but when we checked in, receptionist said, the jacuzzi is not working! Then, when we took showers the shower floor got flooded! it took 30 minutes for the water to drain!!! The ceiling fan was dusty, and the fridge was dirty too. I paid so much for the villa suite for four nights but it was not worth it. So, save your money and book somewhere else.

They could not do enough for you, and served a wonderful breakfast, we also had nice relaxing cocktail hours in their nicely landscaped ourtyard. Location is in the middle of all the happenings in Chapala, and just steps from the lake. With that location comes a lot of noise and traffic on weekends.

Within walking distance to all there is but 3 days there was stretching the limits. In all fairness we visited in late August , a very quiet time so not a lot to chose from eating wise.

The landscaping was beautiful. Soft goods were aesthetically thought out, but starting to wear in the public spaces. The gentlemen at check-in were very kind and knew their property. LGBT tolerant, if not friendly. Cleanest Hotel we stayed in while in Mexico. Nearby churches do ring morning bells around 7am, but otherwise, noise was minimal considering how close it was to activity.

- Marimae (8/5): Close to everything - The hotel is central to the beach, the church, stores, restaurants, etc. It is clean and welcoming, and the room was very comfortable. Our only caveat is the heat. We were there in January and found Chapala very cold, especially at night, and there is not heating in the room, so the room was always cold. Space heaters would have been appreciated. However the desk manager gave us an extra blanket, which helped. We would definitely stay at Villa San Francisco again, but perhaps in a later month.

- Samantha (10/5): Right in the heart of Chapala - This is a beautiful hotel right in the heart of Chapala, just steps away from the Malecon. The hotel staff are warm and inviting and the rooms are very clean and spacious. If I have any complaint it would be the water pressure in the shower. When we checked in we were given our key for the room and a box with Dominoes and the Remote Control for the tv. Our room was Tango, a King size bed with a table and chairs and a bathroom with shower, no tub. We did not use the TV, the reception was poor but that was fine as we were not there to watch tv. The room had 2 liter size bottles of water provided and every day they were replaced which was really great. The bed was firm but comfortable with good pillows. A ceiling fan in the room kept us cool as we slept. There is also wifi which is provided for free. The continental breakfast is served at 830am to 1030am and included in the cost of the room. There were warm, fresh out of the oven muffins, homemade granola, yogurt, various boxed cereal, and fresh fruit cut up including papayas. YUMMY! There is also a menu you can order off of if you would like eggs, etc. Parking was in front of the hotel in the open parking area, which there is no charge for, however, on the weekend when all the tourists come from Guadalajara we did have to park down the block at the park. This is a beautiful property, the gardens are lovely, there are nice areas to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air.

- Esther (6/5): Mixed Feelings - The hotel is lovely although much of the furniture is old and extremely well used. The staff are outstanding. The problem was that it was very noisy. Right next to where is all happening at night and into the early hours of the morning. I only got an hour and twenty minutes of sleep the second night and three hours the first night. Please also be aware that we haven't come across anywhere in this area that has air conditioning. Not a big problem but worth knowing.

- Alex (6/5): Nice but noisy - It was Carnival time, so that accounts for some of the noise, but the the upstairs area is just an echo chamber. Be sure to get the rooms out back. It's a gorgeous garden area and much quieter. The mattress was hard as a rock. The staff was great! Friendly and helpful. Had my laundry done and it was quick and perfect. Enjoyed the breakfast on the front porch. The location is perfect, unless it's carnival time! That being said, it was fun to walk the Malecón and watch the people. I'd stay here again, but only in the garden area.

It was decorated nicely for the Christmas season and was lovely in an charming and intimate old world way. The courtyard was a beautiful and inviting place to read and relax with a drink. A mini cooler would have been nice in the room. Breakfast was included every morning, continental and hot choices were available. The best part of our stay was the wonderful and accommodating staff, with a special thank- you to Caleb! He was so accomodating to our needs and seemed to be everything - concierge,bar tender,front desk and waiter. This is not a ultra modern impersonal place, but a small hotel where you truly felt like a welcomed guest!

- Cathy (10/5): Gorgeous Hotel with Great Location - This is such a unique hotel with old colonial style and beautifully landscaped grounds. Every room is a different theme and mine was "Safari". It has a fully equipped kitchen including water jug, half bath, living room with a fireplace and TV downstairs. Upstairs is the bedroom with two queen-size beds, fireplace, TV, Jacuzzi tub, separate rain shower, walk in closet with skylight and a small terrace overlooking the courtyard. The staff was as spectacular as the room! We were provided huge umbrellas when we decided to go out in a downpour. When we returned and mentioned that restaurants were closed due to the storm, voila, a menu for a restaurant that delivered! The next day we walked the malecon to Parque de la Cristiana and explored the surrounding areas all on foot. Absolutely no need for the car I had rented. The only negative was when we moved to Ajijic the next day and checked into what I probably would have thought was a nice room had I not spent the night at Hotel Villa San Francisco. Next trip I will spend more time at Chapala and will plan my trip around the availability of "Safari". I highly recommend this hotel and its staff!

- Verified traveler (10/5): EXCELLENT hotel, GREAT location, Very HELPFUL staf - I've never reviewed on trip advisor before but am doing so today because this hotel was truly EXCELLENT!! The staff was incredibly helpful..especially Griselda and Caleb I'm usually not "high maintenance" but because my dad became a bit ill, I was a bit high maintenance. The staff went out of their way to help with translations for medicines ( so I could get what he needed from the pharmacy), providing herbal teas etc. The room was comfortable and very clean. The location was excellent and steps from the malecon and the buses to nearby Ajijic and Guadalajara. If you visit this hotel be sure to ask about the Aguas Calientes. There are 2 nearby and both worth it for different reasons Also the breakfast was included and VERY GOOD...The eating area was beautiful as well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great little jem of a hotel!! - Great little boutique hotel. Nice breakfast and comfortable rooms in a perfect spot in Chapala right in the middle of everything. Only gave 4 points for room comfort because our room didn't have a balcony but only two small windows that didn't bring in much air circulation...other than that, the room was great! Would definitely stay there again!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a boutique hotel with plenty of old world charm. The rooms facing the malecon can be a bit noisy, but the garden rooms are just as nicely appointed and quieter. Great location that is just off the malecon and only 2 or 3 blocks from the plaza, close to restaurants, markets and just about anything else. I would go back.

- beachbunny (10/5): Lovely Boutique style hotel - Located right across from the Malecon and the lake it was a lovely spot. The bed was very comfortable and the room well decorated. The continental breakfast was very nice. I definitely enjoyed my stay there
- Andy (10/5): Lovely hotel located on the malecon of Chapala - This well kept hotel is located steps from the malecon of Chapala. The malecon is wonderful for long strolls along the sometimes busy waterfront of Lake Chapala where you can watch the local fishermen and get within a few feet of the beautiful Snowy Egrets on the pier. The breakfast on the veranda at the front of the hotel surrounded by the lush garden is delightful. The comfortable rooms all have a unique musical theme to the decor.

Had private front balcony (Hollywood), general rear balcony. Nice covered front porch and lovely rear garden, Internet not great. Worked most of time in lobby, not always, and not in room Good value for the money
- darren (8/5): - The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We had a nice room with a terrace. Unfortunately, the door to the Terrace didn't lock and there was no safe in the room. The location is great on the Malecon.
- jimmy (10/5): tranquil - The hotel is across from the lake, around the corner fro the main street in town and the garden was so tranquil with the music from the Hotel that I sat in the chair in the shade and fell a sleep.

- carlos (2/5): I regret my stayed here... - I won't recommend this hotel at all. The people "working" at this hotel have no idea about this industry. They run this place as a "friends" house. At check in, employee at the front desk was watching videos instead of welcome us. The whole check in process was a headache, took a lot of time and was extremely unpleasent from employee actitud. Rooms are very small as the bathroom. Hotel has a great location and nice setup but again employees are rude, discourteous and very unprofessional. You can find better choices around. I have the worse experience ever from employees in this industry. Rooms are clean but be ready to fight all night long with mosquitos, a lot!
