Guest Reviews
- BabakBa (2/5): this place is a old 1950's motel - I have booked this place through Airbnb and experience was horrible. First of all, it was listed as an apartment which when we got there, we found this is a very old motel. The owner (Name Suny, I guess) just bought and trying to do a cheap renovation while renting some units at the same time, painting the walls was going on. the place is very old and everything inside (bathroom, kitchen and beds) are as old as building.
We ended up leaving after an hour, we stayed at Knights Inn the same day for the same price and it was 100 times better. I am not exaggerating look around you will find a lot better places than this garbage place.
I left a review on Airbnb about my experience and have asked for a refund but the Owner is a very cheap businessman and dishonest.
The owner reply to my review was that we were laud and I had a fight with my wife and police got involved and we have been asked to leave.
I do not recommend this place take your business somewhere else.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It wasn't internet,not having any table,chair,ripped bath towel,no napkins,not having coffee machine,disappointment-ed service.
- JoshuaLee (10/5): - excellent motel!
clean and nice!
Manager Sohale was very kind and helpful for customers !
- Verified traveler (6/5): - - It’s newly renovated.
- Front desk is nice and helpful.
- Very poor connection, literally no connection.
- no fridge
- no coffee maker or kettle, but staff brought me a kettle.
- there is a microwave, but the cord is too short , I had to move it to be able to plugin somewhere else.
- cover blanket looks old, there are small holes on the inner blankets
- no chairs
- Emma (4/5): - This is under new management and they would be wise to not accept guests until the overhaul is complete. First room had a non functioning tv and the cold water tap in the bathroom fell apart on first use. Moved to another room. Dirty items under sink in kitchenette, old towels, joining door did not lock due to being kicked in in the past. No AC, very hot room. No cot available, even though we had booked for one. Friendly enough manager, but he did not know we were coming. And waaay over priced. Can’t recommend. Maybe better after they get the placed fixed up...?
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was close to amenities...did not have coffee, utensils or anything, no glasses or cups. The towels smelled sour like they were left in a washer for a long time before it was put in the dryer.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Awful Service, Booked 4 months in advance and they cancelled our room and did not let anyone know, Expedia or myself and told me the only way i would be able to get a room is if i paid more money... Would not recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - 1) Couldnt get a hold of them
2) No room service while there i know ran out of tp had to ask. Towels were not change and garbage wasnt emptied
3) Rates too high for 2 queen bed he was charging 149.00 for older hotel..no fridge, no air conditioner.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - When we arrived the front desk told us our reservation had been cancelled due to a change in ownership and if we wanted to stay we'd be charged double the original rate. I did not stay.
- Andrew (4/5): Overcharged - Made reservation 10 days before trip total cost $90 when got to hotel they more or less said reservation was void and charged us $140
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Pathetic manager and the worst part is there phone numbers are not updated on the google so you can’t even contact them. Worst experience of my life
- Mike (4/5): - good thing is cheap. Everything is old inside but clean. Better than camping.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No one answer the phones i called like 20 times and no one picks up
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Waiting past 4pm for cleaning staff to prep the room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Did not get anyone to come to check me in - after 3 tries of phoning and ringing the bell I gave up.
- 191leslyb (2/5): If there was a 'less than 1' rating..that would still be too high!! - GAG!!! My husband and I stayed for one night last month.
The first key we were given..the room wasn't even made up yet. The next TWO keys..one room was gaggingly smokey and the front desk person tried to tell us it was the cleaning chemical smell and the second room seemed to be acceptable..sorta. The lady at the desk told us she didn't know how to use the machine for credit card so could we please pay cash..and we did..good thing..no wondering later on if our info was 'kept'. It was evening when we arrived..very poor lighting in the room. The fridge was running and the door was open..because there was so much ice build up the door couldn't be closed. We laughed and 'fixed' it. Then we saw the grim bathroom..needless to say..we didn't use the tub or shower. One of the two towels had big holes in it!! The wifi never did work..we were told to just keep trying. The fire extinguisher was expired. The microwave, coffeepot and 'island sink' were filthy. The inside of the 'island' was disgusting. Worst of all..when we woke up the next morning and could actually see things better..the boxspring was still in the plastic bag and that bag had old gross brown stains in it!! Hahahah..and LOOK at the two super vehicles the owners/front desk people drive!! Grrrr.....
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfy beds. Good manager. Very loving people. Let stay a extra couple hours
- VFX_man (4/5): - Rooms in a definite need of upkeep and repair. Duct tape in the shower to seal gaps was kind of humorous. Main issue was their maid service. Arrived in room the first and the bed was not made up, arrived the second night and the bed was stripped and not made. Had left some items in the room and my water bottle that was left hidden under my items was removed. Buddy in another room said his items had all been moved and placed in his bag that was left in the room. Unprofessional cleaning crew, when we spoke to the management they were visibly upset that the crew they contract for this service is lacklustre. Was trying to do the trip economically— so you get what you pay for.
- M (8/5): - For the price a great place to stay. Stayed here before without any issues but this time the police we're banging on the the next door for almost 4 hours. Finally got to sleep at 3am.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was filthy. Garbage and people's old belongings underneath the beds. Moldy water in the kettle. The bed wasn't comfortable at all, maybe had two hours sleep. Won't e staying here again
- Tour252746 (10/5): Basic friendly stay - I had a hard time breathing in the smoking room but it was cheap and the service was fast and friendly. I would definitely stay there again. My room had a microwave, fridge and sink. The shower had high pressure and the motel shampoo was surprisingly decent. But please stop letting people smoke in the rooms. I'm a smoker and it's disgusting.
- john (8/5): - Not 5 star but a clean relatively decent room. Good staff, cheap rate and offers a quick sleep while on the road
- Niki (2/5): - I left after 1 hour. Beds have plastic wrap around box spring. I looked that up it is to prevent bed bugs.
I tried to check out but the office was locked. When I called the number listed at the door the lady said they would not be back for 1 hour 45 mins. I left the key and called my credit card.
- Bruce (2/5): - Lost confirmed reservation. Non smoking rooms stink of smoke. Many things in disrepair or missing. Should not even be listed on Expedia.
- Douglas (8/5): A place to sleep - Room could use some updating. But it was cheap and you get what you paid for. I will stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was nice and clean but some things were in poor condition like no screen in the window and no handle on the bathroom faucet.
- Roy (4/5): - We had to go to the office for more toilet paper, there was no tissues, the room smelled of incense, and there was only one metal key. When we accidentally locked ourselves out they were not sure if there was another working key. However, we were able to be with our two little dogs and it was inexpensive. No in room coffee.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Owner attitude was unpleasant! Could not find owners most of the time. Had to beg for towels.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Inexpensive
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice and clean hotel!
- 265danyap (2/5): Stayed there for a volleyball tournament - I’ve stayed here for 3 years in a row now. Nothing fancy, you get what you pay for. Everything is outdated -70s countertops, old baseboards, wood paneling etc. But the beds are comfy enough, room was clean enough, water pressure good enough, not bad for $65 a night.
This year on the other hand, that all changed. I paid $64 a night, didn’t expect much I expected what I got the last 2 years, which is mediocre but comfortable. I’m not bougie obviously I know I’m not getting the Hilton when I pay $64 a night.
We get there, there’s dried up contact lenses on the bedside table, an empty pudding cup under the bed and the room is always dim and depressing(whatever I was trying to save money) we over looked it and stayed.
We were traveling with my volleyball team and they stayed in the room beside us. They told me they found mouse droppings in their dresser- eww. They didn’t care either, it’s a busy weekend, we already paid whatever.
We are a young group we were there for a good time, we were able to have some drinks in our room, have our teammates over with some music playing- there were no other people beside either of us, we had no cops show up or anything. I would say that’s one of the okay things of being there.
If you’re younger - this is something you won’t have to worry about. If you’re older and don’t want disturbance on a Friday night I would probably avoid it. The owner said something to us and threatened to call police if we were loud again but we were wondering why didn’t you come and talk to us we would have quieted down?. Oh that’s probably because they don’t care.
I will not be staying there again.
Do yourself a favour and don’t expect much if you stay and do a pre room check before you put your stuff away.
That’s my honest review.
- K7547VAmike (2/5): Terrible experience - Dirty, stinkiest, filthy motel I have ever seen! Beer cans everywhere, beds were not made, wet towels in bathrooms, no heat on, we were offered a plug in heater, no hot water available, no TV. Owners did not arrive for check-ins until after 6PM on a Friday night!
- Richard (2/5): An absolute pig sty! - Motel owners/managers where out of town and arrived 2.5 hours after our check-in time.Motel rooms offered to us (3) all stunk of cigarettes and mold. One had not been cleaned and one was not what we booked and one had no TV, and none of the rooms had the heat turned on and we were offered a portable electric to warm the unit up. We refused to stay in this pig sty and continue to be treated poorly, and they refused to credit my account, citing we were refusing to stay there and where therefore cancelling our reservation too late!
- Brian (4/5): Get what you pay for - Dive on the side of the Highway is the best way to describe the Sportsman. You want a cheap motel? Then the Sportsman is your place. Dirty glass in the kitchenette sink, 1/2 roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. I let the hot water run for about 15 minutes before it became warm, no coffee filters for the coffee maker... Lucky thing I knew what I was getting into...
- andrew (2/5): Very upset - -4 degrees and heater broken, drug dealer lives in one of the units and super loud all night. Mould in bathroom, outdated, leaking toilet, very unprofessional staff.
- I3776RZpaulined (2/5): Low Monthly Rate - Place should be condemned. Stayed for a month while in between homes. Not once did they ask ask if we needed clean sheets, toilet paper, clean towels nothing. I bought cleaning supplies and luckily I had clean towels etc with us. Place was never vacuumed. They say that they have all this stuff in the room for cooking but nothing was there like they said. The front desk people are not customer service orientated. When you did see them, they had their phone glued to their head, even when cleaning rooms. I have never written a review about any place but this accommodation desires a 100 thumbs down. Internet is an abomination. One last thing, we were told that our door was broken and would be fixed but never was. Very big safety issue, at least we had a dead bolt
- Verified traveler (6/5): Kinda cool in the room. - The building isn't great. The whole wall shakes when closing the door from the outside. I could hear noises from other rooms. Clean and mostly comfortable.
- carrie808 (6/5): Clean good value but.... - Stop here often on way to and from BC. Clean, many rooms refurbished, good value, although this time, I had to bunch towels under my head instead of the way-too-fat pillow.
Was going to advance book with Expedia but thought better of it. When they quoted me the price ($10 higher than Expedia) on check-in, I asked if they would match Expedia's price. Nope....so there I was, in their office, making my booking with Expedia! Weird, as I am sure they would have been in $ if they had. Ah well, their loss for a few more minutes of my time.
- Deb (4/5): Cheap place that takes dogs - Cheap basic motel a but run down but clean. Bed was comfortable and room was relatively large complete with fridge, microwave and coffee maker.
- Tessa (6/5): - It wasn't wheelchair accessible to get into the motel which I believe all motels should be. When we arrived the room wasn't ready. When we arrived they had no idea bout the booking or how long my stay was for even though it was prebooked. For two people staying in the room we were givin one facecloth and one hand towel. The stay was good the inside of the motel room was assessable with a walker .
- Sakura_satori (6/5): Basic standard... you get what you pay for - After reading the reviews I was wincing in anticipation of staying here but when I arrived I was reassuringly surprised.
My boyfriend was already in Merritt and asked to see the room beforehand, he was shown room 6 and room 24. Both were basic but reasonable. We went for room 24 as there was a slight smell of food in room 6 but nothing intolerable if we hadn't had a choice. The shower was old and so the bath was marked but not dirty... we still wore flip flops just in case!
The sheets were clean and the bed was comfy. This place is old and obviously not the ritz... but based on our stay I wouldn't say it needed to be condemned as in other reviews. It's the cheapest motel in Merritt so I would say you get what you pay for!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bugs everywhere. - If you like sleeping with bugs such as spiders, cockroaches and ants, this is the place for you. Remarkably unclean and dirty. Not to mention the staff wants absolutely nothing to do with you.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Neither the TV or the phone worked!! - Horrible! They came to fix the TV one hour after we went to sleep!
- Jon (4/5): Basic place with no frills. - an ok place if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay on way thru town. The place was quite run-down in urgent need of repairs and upkeep. Appears the place has suffered from years of neglect. Ended up having to try 3 different rooms before finding an acceptable one. Only thing good I can say is that the beds were comfortable with clean bedding. Front office staff was not particularly helpful and looked like they hated their life and would rather be elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staff is terrible, not nice to customer. Room smells bad, shower is broken and black marks everywhere
- Shannon (6/5): - The gal at the front desk was in the process of coloring her hair, and REFUSED to get off her cell phone. She never even looked at or asked for my ID.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spacious but Basic - The room had a kitchen, table & chairs which was nice. This is a basic room so bring everything else you need with you. It was interesting that the manager talked on the cell phone the whole time I checked in and even when she came to my room to get the fridge started. WiFi kept cutting in and out.
- dabeegurl (2/5): THIS PLACE IS A DIRTY DUMP!!! AUG.2017 DONT BOOK HERE - Where to start ! Lady at front desk speaks english to get your money and then cant when you want refund and says Why you make trouble . She sizes you up for what she can scam you for. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. The rooms are nasty. We were there for a week and it was awful. Thank god we found a better motel. There is mould in bathrooms and the floor is so damaged from it that if you step in places you will go through the floor. This place should be condemned. They do not clean so be prepared to do your own cleaning. We also supplied our own toilet paper. Other people who stay there told us that they woke up in the night and found the owner in their room drunk... DO NOT stay here. BELIEVE THE REVIEWS they are all true ! If there are good ones im positive that it is the hotel owners who have written them. WIFI is the worst. Out of the week we were there the RCMP seemed to be called for some reason or another everyday ! I hazard a guess it is because people were trying to get a refund. This place should be shutdown It certainly is not worth the 130 a night she was trying to get from us. The quotes they give you on the phone to get you there are not true. This NO TELL MOTEL should not be on the travel sites..
- james (2/5): Worst motel I have seen in my life - I don't recommend at all... I would rather stay in my car..
- J (4/5): - Does the trick for a one night stay if passing through town. Spacious. Shower was luke warm at best, and there was no soap in the room at all. Went to reception and the lady there couldn't provide any soap as the maid had left for the day.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst motel I've ever stayed in (MOLD) - There was mold in the bathroom NO DEAD BOLT ON THE DOOR THE BED WAS FROM THE 1800S and super hard the wifi is extremely slow. I have pictures. But hotels .com isn't slowing g me to upload them. There was no garbage can 12 Tv channels and the AC WAS BROKEN it was 30 degrees
- Barbara (6/5): - Was alright
- Verified traveler (2/5): Extremely outdater - Bed was very hard and uncomfortable, no hand soap or Kleenex, plugins hard to get at.
- Verified traveler (4/5): You get what you pay for! - The floors squeak, you can hear your neighbors conversation also.
- Stan (4/5): You get what you pay for! - The floors squeak, you can hear your neighbors conversation also.
- robert (4/5): - bad floors are giving way the smell in the room stays with for a while
- redsoxfan68 (2/5): No propoer heating - Where to start... Condemn this place please... the city should shut this down.. it's a definite fire hazard..... portable heaters used to heat the rooms... Fungus growing at the base of the tub and along the walls.... My children said that is the most disgusting place they have ever seen in their lives and they are both under the age of 10.. they should have little expectations at their age but they knew better.... I could go on and on but why bother.. reading the reviews tells me the city wont do anything anyways therefore my answer is... don't stop in Merritt whatsoever....PS WIFI didn't even work...
- Verified traveler (6/5): ok stay - no tv remote need tv update Bed's where comfy room was clean
- Paul (6/5): Nice for one night - Hotel staff did help me when I needed anything. Location was good for where I needed to be in the morning.
- Reinhard (4/5): Renovations needed - Bathroom needs major renovation;
- Roger (8/5): - Motel was a bit dated .... but aren't they all
Clean room and quite
Close to Chinese Buffet and other restaurants
- Marvinstravel (2/5): Last resort - Not clean at all but u get wat u can get stains on floor looked like blood stains beds unclean sheets dirty. Wouldn't stay here at all Hostels are prob cleaner I would book ahead for one of the other hotels that were here they were all full except for this one nobody stayed here lol. Now I know why.
- beckyk424 (2/5): The WORST hotel I've ever been in - This was honestly laughable, you had to or you'd cry! Stayed here do to a lack of planning for the Pacific Forest Rally in October 2015. We arrived and it was freezing inside and we couldn't find the heat until the 2nd night and there were two options, full boar or nothing at all. The lamps still had the wrapping from Walmart on them and the 'art' were the samples photos you get when you buy a new frame. The room smelled of cigarettes and poo. Literally. We had two visitors and both commented on it upon their entry. The hot water was non existent and there was a massive spider living in the tub which we named George. The fridge and lamps were not plugged in when we arrived. Needless to say, I used my own bedding as a shield from the nasty sheets and pillows. And to top it all off, there was no one there the whole time we were there running the motel. Please do not give your money to this hotel.
- natalieec2015 (2/5): DON'T stay here - Our room was not ready in time for check in, the HEAT AND THE HOT WATER DID NOT WORK, the wifi would not connect, the room STANK of cigarettes (non-smoking room) and when we returned one night it smelled overwhelmingly like an outhouse. There was banging on the walls almost all night long and my friend staying in the room next to us had NO WORKING LIGHTS. It was an awful experience, I hardly slept at all and there was no one on-site to hear our concerns. We only stayed here because it was CRC Pacific Forest Rally, there was nothing else available and to be perfectly honest I would have rather slept in the truck.
- TheBradyLady (4/5): Outdated and neglected - We stayed here for one night during a trip to Merritt for a motor sport event, the CRC Pacific Forest Rally. I booked it a week before, and only because there were no other places left in Merritt available to book online. It was a very short stay, and I was glad of it.
We tried to check in at around 5pm only to find the office locked up. We buzzed and waited a few minutes for an elderly woman to appear who spoke almost no English and had to call the manager (her daughter, I assume) and let me talk to her on her cellphone. Between the two of them, I got my key eventually and we went to our ground floor motel room. It was bare, tidy, clean enough but dark, dingy and old. There was a plastic sheet under the mattress (?), cobwebs in the bathroom, one bad pillow each, and the curtains were tricky to close so that no-one walking by outside would be able to see in.
The WiFi barely worked, although there were three different options. My husband said that during the night the static that built up in the blanket was so bad that when he shook it, he could see sparks running all over it. We didn't even bother using the kitchen or the bath / shower.
I just wanted to get out of there; and we did, early the next morning, since we were woken up anyway at 7am (on a Sunday) by a truck being left running about five feet from our window.
Now, I am a happy budget traveller, and don't often complain when I understand that I am booking the cheap option. But at this place, $65 CAD a night was far too much for the lack of upkeep.
- jessej985 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE. - DO NOT STAY HERE! We payed for 5 nights in a room before checking the room...we checked the room and: it smelled, it had black stuff in the bathtub, stains on the carpet and the door did not lock! We tried to get our money back and she initially refused then decided to give all but one night back. We had to stay one night and it was horrible!
- 294leanned (2/5): DISGUSTING-SHOULD LOOSE THIER BUSINESS LICENSE!!!!! - Absolutely the most disgusting place ever!!!! Do not book here, the front counter staff are the rudest people I have ever met in my life, the room is dirty, smelly, falling apart, bugs, spiders, mold - and that is putting it mildly. We actually had to call the local RCMP to attend to get the woman at the front dest to stop verbally abusing us when we asked for a refund - we finally got a partial refund but had to pay a one-night penalty-we stayed but put our own blankets on the bed so as not to sleep on theirs - the one bed had a previous visitors hair stuck to the nasty sheets!!!!!
- Peer-tns (10/5): Vocational - Good service great helpful people around I checked in really late around 2am but lady at front desk help me a lot she was nice and friendly room were clean everything was working perfectly best place to stay in Merritt bc very affordable thanks
- cdnIriegirl (2/5): Better off sleeping in your car. - We had this hotel booked ahead of time but when we got there we decided not to stay there. it's all the worst of motels you can imagine. Dirty, poorly maintained, low class and transients. There were clearly disturbed people walking around the property speaking to themselves, we didn't feel safe and the staff weren't even around to ask any questions of. So if they don't care, we don't care. We moved on to a different hotel.
- davn5555 (10/5): Best place for you money - When we checked in the front desk person was very polite. We checked around other places rates and they were all over $100 a night and thats to much if your just passing through town. This place was $70 and was as same as the $100 places. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. They had big flat screen TV. It look like they did a lot of renovations because the room looked very clean and new. This was the first time we stayed there but we will staying there on our way back from Vancouver.
- TiaHawkins (2/5): Disgusting Place to Stay - Exhausted from a long drive, I stopped in Merrit for the night. All the hotels were full, but this motel had a room available. I should have kept driving. It wasn't so much the dated, shabby mid 60's decor that bothered me, but the smell was terrible. A combination of old cigarette smoke and cheap air freshener permeated everything. The smoke alarm was disconnected and hanging by a wire and the door had a cheap interior lock and no deadbolt. Mold and dirt everywhere, and the blankets were decorated with cigarette burns. The paper thin walls allowed us to enjoy the conversation held at a normal volume, from the three guys next door, that continued until 4:30 in the morning, ensuring that we had no sleep. Thankfully we had sleeping bags and pillows with us, so were assured of a clean bed to sleep in, even if my bed did have a 20 degree tilt to the right, resulting in my spending the night pushing myself back toward the other side of the bed. We would have been better off sleeping in the car.
