Guest Reviews
- Rodrigo (2/5): - La propiedad muy sucia y muy poco aseada, baño, sábanas, ropa de cama, ducha muy pero muy sucias, mal servicio y el precio un poco elevado
- Francois P (2/5): - No way rooms and hallways are up to code. Sketchy practices and service
- Matthew (8/5): - The room was spartan but extremely clean and comfortable. Much nicer on the inside than it looks from the outside. The neighborhood was a tad sketchy but cool, and the location is convenient.
- Brianna (8/5): - Easy check in and out. Unfortunately no parking on site but secure cheap parking garage just down road a little. No sink in bathroom in room. But worked for a quick night stay.
- Craig (8/5): - I stayed for 2 nights. Checking in and out was a breeze. The room i stayed in was tiny, but had everything advertised. On the first night there must have been someone smoking cigarettes inside, as it smelled horrible. The second night was much better. Location is excellent. Easy to get around.
- Erick (10/5): Great and good stay - It is the second time I stay there and always a great option, both times were last minute booking.
- Emily (4/5): - When I arrived it was incredibly difficult to get in contact with reception to check in, then it seemed as though they were unable to find my booking for quite a while. I was not provided with the accommodations I had booked either. While the room and bathroom weren’t outright filthy, they were not super clean- could clearly see dirt and there were some bugs. I felt unsafe in the neighbourhood so ended up leaving early and checking in to a different hotel in a different neighbourhood.
- Dante (10/5): Toronto Carnival - Stayed here to be close to Toronto Carnival, and it was perfect location. In chinatown so plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Also a couple banks and liquor store near. You can catch the street car easily! Liang was very helpful at the hostel. Very clean and perfect for 1 person. I had the double bed with private bathroom. I dont recommend a smaller room though because the room was small. Definitely willing to stay again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Run when you can! - Dirty unclean rooms, dysfunctional air conditioner, hidden untold last moment charges, long wait to get checked in and arguing, difficult staff when concerns raised. An overall bad disappointing, deceiving experience with inconsistent with description, photos. Hotels.com will deny help in the end too staying several reasons.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Good rooms, but run by scammers. - Place was good until they tried to scam me telling me I hadnt paid even after I showed my receipts through the app. I actually met someone while waiting outside for my uber who warned me they did that to her two days before they did it to me. They will double and triple charge you without care.
- GRACE (2/5): - Too expensive with no faculties, very bad
- Cassie (8/5): - Still an amazing price for what you get!! I just recommend bringing some extra blankets or hyper warm pj's as the basement rooms are very cold. Also some repairs are needed in the shared shower room, as the showerhead sprayed water up on the ceiling, causing a hole and potential water damage to the ceiling
- Sridhar (6/5): - Too small and maybe just worth the rate.
- SHAHID (4/5): - staff is chinsing not really good
- Kansiime (10/5): - Good
- Winston (10/5): - The lady was friendly and helpful, a great problem solver and empathic
- S (4/5): - There is no accessories and appliances for the accommodation, like hand towels, hair-drier, no access to microwave, kettles, glasses or drinking water! Only one chair in the room!!
- Tamara (4/5): - It was fine for the price. Run down and bed was flimsy. Bedding was old and thin. I got there an hour early and they charged me $5 to check in. And don’t offer a secure place to put your luggage when you check out if you need that. Wanted $5 an hour to lock it in my room. That’s lame. No TV. I had a private bathroom. And it was tiny. I wouldn’t want to share that with anyone. Other than that. For a cheap quick place to sleep in the area. It’s adequate. But that’s all.
- Parthiv (8/5): - Good👍
- Stephen (8/5): Night on the town - I booked the room for a weekend for concert venues I would attend. The host set me up with a double bed upgrade in a corner suite. For quite a bit less than a big chain hotel I enjoyed a comfortable bed and a refreshing hot shower to get ready for the next concert. This location is right downtown with ready transportation though I walked to all three venues ! This place is a great deal !
- Arman (2/5): - The staff was very noisy during the stay... i could hear her voice so loud from the front main door.
- Jason (4/5): - It’s economical close to transportation. And food places but needs more ppl coming to assist whoever is o. Duty and rooms paid for needs to be ready in time and smelling perfumed
- Jason (2/5): - I had to wait for my room to be ready two long hours and I lost my body lotion and scarf that was left in one of the room that I was waiting in and relocated from
- Sabz (10/5): - If you just need a bed and a place to shower book this place
- JP (2/5): Stay FAR away...and don't even turn around. - After 51 countries, hundreds of hotel nights, and countless check-ins and check-outs, I have easily encountered the very and absolute worst hotel experience...unfortunately in my very own country.
My check-in process included the "hotel" employee yelling at the guest who tried to complete her process and get a key, this same employee who tried, for 18 minutes (yes, I counted) to get me to pay her cash instead of paying with my credit card so she wouldn't have to pay the taxes, and finally threatening to add a $60 fee if I used my Mastercard.
The room had no heat. May I repeat, the room had zero heat, nor thermostat, nor heater. My attempts at contacting anyone from the hotel were unsuccessful (four times from four different people (including the Hotels.com employees).
I could go on and on but already, there is more than enough information for you the reader, to stay anywhere other than here.
- Jacey (10/5): - loved it, will be back for sure
- asim (6/5): - I wanted a location near my work place and i find it reasonable.
Let's talk first Positives about the area.
The room was clean, no smell and overall ok.
Fridge , microwave and internet working mode.
The area had multiple food options including halal chineese food.
Now few Negatives
A very compact corridor to move and a relatively small room.
Washroom size was not acceptable the way it is designed they need to change it. You cannot have a shower area by crossing over the commode area.
Voice from other room including washrooms were kind of noise pollution.
Lastly there was a sudden powerfailure at 6:30 am and not a single courteous call from reception about it.
I had no choice other than to leave at 8:00 am.
The daily charges for the particular room i had it should not exceed mire than 80 dollars including taxes.
I visited this place on 28th Novemberand left early 29th November .
I managed packing things in dark with no light in the room.
Apartfrom that i still grade is a better place if they reduce cost and washroom redesigning.
Regards
- Jithin (4/5): - Got the tiniest room in the whole world. The room door opens into the bathroom from the corridor. The roome doesn't have proper ventilation, mattress is in a very bad shape, and had to pay for public parking even though the website says parking is available for this property.
- Elias (10/5): - good
- Amy (8/5): - For the price it’s just what you need. Nothing luxurious, but you have to remember it’s a Hostel as well. You pay for what you get these days. I would recommend if you’re looking for a budget friendly stay in TO. Very clean, comfy beds and walking distance to Kensington Market. Bonus!!
- Jaimie (8/5): - it was perfectly fine for a hostel. everything was clean. it would be good if they noted a private room & bathroom does not include a sink. There was a large sink outside the bedroom but I just ended up using the shower tap. Sound does travel down the hallways easily. I liked the place for my needs and I enjoyed the Kensington area around the hostel.
- Chany (10/5): - They have Very good staff service.
- Claudia (8/5): - The property was in a convenient location and we could walk to main streets to catch locomotion to anywhere we wanted to go. Price was good for the amount of time we spent there and the private washroom was added bonus.
- Feliciano (6/5): - Twas ok!! Staying there just to sleep. My window was kinda scared. It’s broken glass window! So my curtains always down.
I don’t like the idea of taking off my shoes going to my room upstairs!! But in general. I like my stay.
- Yvan Yancy (6/5): - Great location near Chinatown and the CN Tower, ideal for a budget stay. However, the shower didn’t work, our private bathroom had no doors, and there was confusion over an early check-in fee. On the plus side, the staff were generally friendly.
- Adrian (8/5): - Nice staff
- Josh Andrew (10/5): - Liang is so kind and good.
- ABDELDJEBAR (10/5): - Excellent location , Very peaceful stay the room was comfortable and Clean , So friendly staff especially Liang she was top
- Elias (10/5): - Good management, if you have a visitor it's a nice place to be in, nice cool and noise free,
- ABDELDJEBAR (10/5): - Excellent location , Very peaceful stay the room was comfortable and Clean , So friendly staff especially Liang she was top
- Nana (6/5): - No time
- Marzieh (4/5): - I didnt like.
- meng (10/5): - Convenient location, safe. Room is clean. Works for 1 or 2 night stay.
- Marzieh (4/5): - very bad
- Bonnie (4/5): - Like the pricr didnt like the environment
- Painam (2/5): - I did not like the staff there except the older Asian lady with the Glasses she's perfect with the guests
- Jack (4/5): - It's a bed to sleep in. It's cheap, you get what you pay for.
Despite no smoking signs, the whole of the 3rd floor smells like an ashtray, this is why I have knocked the rating down.
- Stephen (8/5): Last minute score - I booked just before the long weekend to attend a dinner in Toronto and still could book a room with a private bathroom. The double bed provided a ggod night's rest and the shower worked beautifully. A comfortable place at a great price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Small Room Basic Amenities but Fair for the Price - No elevator and poor soundproofing. The room is very small, with no windows and no sink, so I had to brush my teeth in the shower area. The toilet is inside the room, close to the bed, but it was still fairly clean. However, considering I originally booked a room without a bathroom and the front desk upgraded me to one with a bathroom, I appreciate the gesture. Given the price and location, everything is quite reasonable overall.
- Alamgir (2/5): - Management very rude and ungrateful
- Victor (8/5): - Great staff
- Jordan (6/5): - If you are stuck and on a budget this is a good spot. It was $114 for the night. Rooms are very small and the element is rather sketchy.
- Viran (4/5): - I would not recommend tgis property if you dont speak Chinese. HOUSE attendance hardly speaks basic english. On thier expedia page it says 24 hour check in and luggage storage. This is incorrect. I was charged 5 dollars to have a early check-in even tho i didnt need it. I just eanted to leave my bags in storage. So when i paid the 5dollars i went to the room and it wasn't even ready for early check-in. I messged the owener via expedia but no reply. They are quick to replay there i fo to me buy they necer replied when i messaged them on check-in day regardinging the 5 dollar charge. Room is basic. Toilet in the room.ac did not work the second day and bugs in ac unit.
- Jenny C (8/5): - Easy to get in
- Erwin (10/5): - Very nice place to stay!
- Abu Mohammad (8/5): - Very good place
- Abu Mohammad (10/5): - Very good
- Stanley (6/5): - Staff was great. Room was small, noisy at times. Great area and we felt safe.
- Josh (6/5): - The main thing I needed from this hotel was a clean and safe place to sleep and shower. It provided that, but if you're looking for anything more, this hotel is not for you.
The second thing I needed from the hotel was a place to leave my bags during the day after checkout, and it didn't provide that. It also didn't provide an answer to my simple question about whether I could leave my bags there. A few days before arrival, I asked about this via email, and was told to ask when I checked in. But when I arrived, the person who checked me in barely spoke enough English to handle the check-in process and clearly would not have been able to understand and answer my question. The check-out process the next morning consisted in nothing more than dropping my room key in a box, and I didn't see any staff on site that I could ask about leaving my bags. Not being able to leave my bags with the hotel made the following day much more logistically complicated for me and almost made me miss an event I had a ticket for. If the hotel had just answered the question via email when I had asked before arrival, I could have made alternate arrangements and saved myself a lot of time and stress.
- monique (10/5): - Mostly the location
Not well lit up and lots of rats
- Pierre-Marc (8/5): - The staff
- Stephen (8/5): - Check in delayed by software issue but got to the room. The bed is firm and comfortable.
- Sandeep (8/5): - Good
- Genevieve (8/5): - Love the area
- Faisal (2/5): - Bad location no safe
- Jennifer (4/5): - Too hot no AC
- Robbie (2/5): - they lied about what place we were staying at, told us somewhere we didn’t stay was what we were getting. you have to walk down the straight to get to your room from the place showed in listing. this place is a total scam you can get anywhere and have a better experience. lady had pungent odour and stol our money through this booknig could’ve even see in my room cause of the small ass light you guys have setup
- Valerie (6/5): Not a great experience - The check in lady was really lovely. Following payment of a further 50$ for early check in and room upgrade (from a musty smelling, claustrophobic basement to a room on the ground floor with private bathroom) the walls were very thin and next door’s ’bathroom time’ was easily heard which wasn’t particularly pleasant. The bed was a hard slab and not very comfortable. The placement of the lavatory could have been better as it was a tad of a squeeze, particularly if you’re tall. However the room (albeit a bit on the small side) was clean, as was the communal corridor.
Most disappointingly though, that despite there being a kettle on the property photos, there are none available to make hot drinks in the room (or anywhere within the premises!) also, unlike other places we’ve stayed, the other people were not particularly respectful of fellow guests and were noisy until late with heavy walking, talking loudly into their speaker phones and the first night there was a baby crying in the adjacent room.
The location however is brilliant, with bars and food places nearby, giving a vibrant and eclectic vibe. There’s really good transport links into the city (buses and streetcars) which run until late.
- Stephen (8/5): - Interesting. I booked late and checked in late. The fellow couldn'd locate my room so he arranged a room at another site. A small room with shared facilities though the bed was very comfortable.
- bikramjit (2/5): - Please make note before booking this is not a hotel, I booked single room with single bed with attached bathroom. When I reached door of the property was locked from the door bell contact made . Waited there by standing more then 30 mins, and rooms are all made by seperations of the place . No shink, just one toilet made on the way to room and shower attached. Dirt and unsafe please don’t book . Room.
- Mandeep (2/5): - I visited last night and knock the door. Someone called and said that they will assist me but after half an hour no body came outside. There was trash bins all over outside the building at entrance. It was terrible experience as I have to book another room to stay for a night at highest cost.
- Jordan (8/5): - The rooms were clean and the building was clean
- Michael Angelo (10/5): - All great and would love to go back again and stay.
- Mizan (8/5): - It is fair and reasonable price.
- Catherine (8/5): - Loved our room and how close we were to many restaurants and vintage store. They even let us choose on which floor we wanted our room. Even though there were some hiccups when we check-in, we had a great time.
- Jenny C (8/5): - Maybe it's me, it's humble and clean for me. Low barrier bookings. Eccentricite staff that make me laugh and comfy. The neighbourhood weirdo and misfit vibe that I enjoy, plus I love China town.
- JORGE (6/5): - Affordable option close to downtown Toronto, good location close to everything (Chinatown). The entrance doesn't look good at all and the lack of air conditioner in summer was something we felt during the night (at least they had a good fan)
- Gord (6/5): - The neighborhood was pretty rough , the bed was a folding double cot ... it was very clean
- van (10/5): - Awesome
- Valerie (6/5): - Good location.
Seemed a bit overpriced
Description of place not clear enough. We had room with private BR (paid extra for this) Only thing we knew and there was AC. Did not say anything re TV,mini frig( which when we got there we had but wished I had known),coffeemaker, towels etc.
Place very clean.
- Justine (4/5): - Staff were talking loudly at all time of day or night. Smallest room and bathroom I had ever seen. Uncomfortable bed. Wouldn't recommend.
- Rita (8/5): - kkk
- John (8/5): - It was a half hour walk to the Rogers Skydome. Busses come every 5 mn on Spadina Ave as well.
It's in the Kensington Market area. An interesting area to walk around.
- Sunny (2/5): - The check-in took an hour. The lady was shouting all the time and could hear her. No air conditioning so it was really hot. They collect pictures of ids (scary)
- Deybi (2/5): UNSAFE ROOM, - Description not accurate, We didn't stay that night, had to overpay in a hotel in Burlington. Lady at the phone was yelling in Chinese to the lady on charge when asked for alternatives, it is an old house renovated inside, hallways and steps divided in half, narrower than the width of my back, locked access doors, multiple small rooms, unsafe in case of fire or any other emergency , it mentioned parking but it was on the street , I parked 3 blocks away, I waited 4 days to do a fair review, money was deducted (LOST), I know it was cheap but description was way far from accurate. only took 1 photo on my way out.
- Henriette (2/5): - Dirty, stinky, naaty
- Keith (2/5): - I was offered a 'free' upgrade on arrival with 'attached' bathroom, (my booking was for shared bathroom) and Chinese lady would not allow inspection first. She demanded payment up front. It was a tiny room with a shower and toilet on one side and bed on the other, so actually a bathroom with a bed inside. It had no window and an old standing fan.
I stayed the night getting little sleep with guests coming and going, playing music, loud conversation etc. In the morning I asked for another room, shared bathroom as was booked. She argued over changing rooms, wanting more money for 'upgrade', finally assistant offered to show me another room in a different building, slightly better as it had a window and was more quiet. I had interrupted sleep again.
I left to catch an early morning train to Montreal, feeling extremely tired.
I could never recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Cassie (6/5): - I love this place, it's cheap. However please don't argue with another guest infront of a current residents door at 1 in the morning for an hour. Just bring them somewhere private for crying out loud
- Georgina (8/5): - Not bad but have room for improvement, according to me its average
- William (10/5): - The staff are very nice, they are able to let you in 24/7 and all the rooms ive had have been clean and had fresh sheets. The price is also very affordable
- Ashley (6/5): Decent place to sleep for price and location - Bare bones room but clean and decent for price. Room had mini fridge, fan, and microwave. Had to climb over toilet to get to shower and may have been difficult for someone with mobility limitations/pain issues. Not much flopr space. Great for sleeping but wouldnt want to spend a lot of time in room if I was there for an extended stay. Central location in China Town. Tim Hortons about a 5 min walk. Found a nearby parking garage that i could use for length of stay (2 nights - $25ish).
Person checking in ahead of me was redirected to another property with same owners. Sounded like those who pre-paid were less likely to be redirected but unsure.
- Kyle (4/5): - The place looked like someone found an abandoned house then patched up everything with cardboard, all signs were in old wrinky paper with handwriting not even printed. The basement rooms even baths and toilets had low ceiling, if you're over 5'9 you will have to slouch. Room was clean, had towels and a fridge, I will them credit for that. If you really need a place just to sleep, this place could do, quite expensive given the terrible condition of this place.
- Runhua (2/5): - Don not recommend.
- Jessie (4/5): - The price is fair, but if you can pay more to book a room, don't choose this hotel. The owner has 4 places, you may not get the room at the location you booked. I waited out of the doors for a long time, and the managers took literally 15 minutes to check in the last customer. And! she brought me to another place across the street. The manager of this house forgot to clean my room! They gave me the key and let me wait outside for 20 minutes to have the room cleaned. The room was fine, there was water, an air-conditioner, a microwave, and even a small fridge. However, the sound insulation was very bad. My room was beside a washroom, and I could hear the men peeing LOL. Since I booked a shared bathroom, I had to go outside of the dungeon, enter the house from the front door, and go upstairs. It's very inconvenient but just okay. Anyway, don't consider it your first option if you plan to stay more than one night.
- David (6/5): - There was a problem with the doorbell and I was unable to stay at the hotel my first night. The check in instructions I received were to ring the doorbell because there is someone on the desk 24 hours. No one was there to let me in! I would like a refund!
The next night I checked in and was given a very small basement room with only an overhead light. The bathroom was shared, and not particularly clean.
I was provided one towel with a hole in it and it felt like sandpaper on my skin when drying off after my shower.
The bed was comfortable enough but there was a lot of noise bleed from other rooms.
- christina (8/5): - This location is conveniently close to Kensington Market. The property can accommodate more than I originally suspected, but can end up double booked. Be forewarned, you may want to book this in advance, and get there early to check-in. Staff is friendly, so feel free to ask questions. This property is also kept very clean, a nice comfort indeed.
- Pooja (6/5): - Waiting time ,
- Wu's Legion (8/5): - The room was a little TOO small but the area and staff are amazing. Next time want to make sure we our room is at least sizeable. Love the surrounding so much to do, especially since we haven’t live there in years!
- Ryan (8/5): - Lol
- mikolaj (8/5): - I enjoyed staying here for the night, the reception lady was pleasant and upgraded me to a better room which was kind of her.
Modest but good accomodation :)
