Guest Reviews
- V (7/5): Nice location for a peaceful escape - Nice location next to canal and vineyard. Was always a pleasure to walk through the vineyard and see the flowers/birds etc.
Nice breakfast provided.
The welcome prosecco was a nice touch. Bed was not comfortable - mainly the pillows.
WiFi not reliable- not a big idea but should be a given these days.
Shower/water pressure terrible :-D
The usual upstairs neighbours sounds which seems to ‘normal’ these days.

- ShivD2212 (10/5): Anniversary Visit! - My husband and I visited on our wedding anniversary and what a lovely experience! We got a private tour and tasting of 4 delicious wines which we absolutely loved, especially the two reds. Our host was extremely welcoming, friendly, fun and knowledgable and as people who enjoy wine but don't know a great deal about the intricacies of it, we learnt a lot! A great couple of hours spent and we even bought a bottle to take back to the hotel room! Well worth a visit! Grazie Mille!
- Francois (8/5): Endroit merveilleusement romantique.
- Azzurra (10/5): Venezia autentica e relax - Accoglienza, pace, pulizia, cucina. Tutto perfetto
- Jacobus (10/5): Perfect one night stay - Everything Nothing

- dmtennis12 (10/5): An elevated dining experience made better with tasting prior - Venissa was very communicative leading up to our visit of 10 people, and this was important because we were herding cats the entire time! We enjoyed a love wine tasting in the garden with tour and interesting story of the wine, the winery and even the labels! We selected the full dinner prix fixe and it was inventive and delicious, everyone was impressed with how high end the dinning experience felt. Worth the cost!
- Eva (10/5): Fantastic stay at Venissa - greatly recommended - We loved it

- Matt (10/5): Perfect place to stay when visiting Venice - Everything was perfect. The idyllic location was echoed by exceptional staff and great facilities. Nothing
- Mario (8/5): Very good -
- Katy (9/5): Superb - A very relaxed place to escape the bustle of Venice - greenery and birdsong! Early check out
- Théo (8/5): Small piece of paradise :) - The place is really great.
Attention to detail, it’s beautiful, middle of a big garden, food is really good (osteria for dinner and the breakfast) really warm bedroom & air extraction was a bit noisy (but don’t want to blame, maybe it’s just common in Italy)
Aside from that, it was reallllly really charming to stay there, we loved the place.
- Donna (10/5): 3rd visit to Venissa and won’t be the last . Attentive staff, fantastic food and great location for a break from the buz - A peaceful haven in Venice
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rory (10/5): Exceptional -
- jamisons311 (10/5): Wonderful place esp. for those in search of unusual wine and food in a calm, elegant setting - Venissa Wine Resort was wonderful in all respects: the lovely room, the bed & sheets, the grounds, the helpful staff, the tasty osteria, the lovely wines and amazing story of the Dorona grape. It was a beautiful setting and an easy walk to Burano. Mostly, it was a welcome calm after the crowds and jostling of Venice.
- Caroline (8/5): we were expecting a better room, bed was a sofa bed, really discomforting - unique lack of comfort
- Shelbie (9/5): The perfect secluded getaway from the more touristy area of Venice. - Location! Location! Location! Although it is a bit challenging getting to the property (only because of the confusing ferry system in Venice) the second you arrive you are greeted with the secluded serenity of this very special area on the Venetian Lagoon. The grounds of the property are immaculately kept and open to the public which made it feel inviting and warm, yet sophisticated. We booked the tour and wine tasting which we were late for by about half an hour because of the difficulty navigating the ferry system. The staff at Venissa were very accommodating and waited for us to arrive to begin the tour (which
I highly recommend). We booked the suite, and while the room itself was spacious, the shower in the bathroom was tiny.
- Oliver (10/5): A hidden peaceful paradis - Amazing stay.. peaceful and beautiful and amazing staff It was perfect
- springbank (6/5): Visit the vineyard - With a group we had a quick guided stroll through the small vineyards of Mazzorbo. We had hoped for more information. Known as the Venisssa Estate, it is a fenced vineyard growing a type of grape native to the island of Venice known as dorona. Long ago the great island of Venice was covered with this and other crops before the inhabitants of Torcello, Burano and Mazzorbo decided to start building their houses and palaces there.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diana (6/5): Pleasant - Venissa is always a very special place. Beautifully surrounded by water and vines…small and cosy. The air conditioning is too old and cannot cool the room enough for a comfortable sleep. The water in the shower is too hot and did not work properly. I have been coming to this place for 12 years and it really needs refurbishing…but still special and the staff is great!
- Katherine (8/5): Very good -
- Francesca (8/5): Very good - The vibe
- Marylou (10/5): It was fun❤️ - I loved staying there! Tepid water for tea for breakfast.
- Climber23621708248 (10/5): Unforgetteble Vacation - Large rooms, wonderful location. At this time of year, the island seemed like a Christmas nativity scene. Kindness and disposition of the entire Venissa team. Perfect dinner and New Year’s Eve. Unforgettable vacation. Spectacular Services
- Roberto (9/5): Superb -
- Matjaž (8/5): Very good -
- Elysia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb - A very lovely place, super breakfast, calm and very kind staff.
- Alessandra (8/5): Very good -
- AmyZB1 (10/5): Last night in Italy - My husband and I stayed at Venissa the last night of our 2-week vacation in Italy, I am STILL patting myself on the back for booking this wonderful hotel. It was just what we needed after 2 weeks of crowds in Rome, Florence and Venice. Venissa is so very special in every way...from the stellar service of the front desk, to the amazing breakfast, to the beautiful setting, to the INCREDIBLE restaurant (we had dinner there and it was a very memorable, special evening). 5 stars everywhere! Thank you for a wonderful experience! We will be back.
Amy and Andy Barth, Los Angeles, CA
- Gail (5/5): Overpriced & Underwhelming - The accessibility to Burano and the tranquillity. Overpriced for what was offered. No tea & coffee making facilities in our room, nor were there many products, ie body lotion etc. Just the very basic essentials.
The breakfast was very disappointing, a poor selection of the usual standard fare that most 3 star places offer.
It is also a long way to go for check-in at 2pm and out by 10.30am, 12 would have been a more acceptable time.
- Karl (9/5): Lovely , quiet and the best possibility to survive in the hectic world of Venice -
- Trudy (8/5): Lovely peaceful location - Excellent breakfast Larger menu choice
- Gregory (10/5): - Great stay on the very peaceful island of Burano that is a short water bus ride from Venice. If you stay here, do yourself a favor and eat in the Osteria Restaurant and order the five course entree. It is a bit pricey but well worth it. They accommodated as vegetarians. They make their own wine from grapes grown on the property and the meal was complimented with 4 wine pairings that were very unique. We return there every year for a night or two
- Juan (9/5): Simple laid back luxury at its best - It was a lovely and serene spot away from the hordes of tourists in Venice and nearby Burano, but still close enough to Burano to enjoy its quaint and colorful environment. The food is amazing as well. Rooms are a bit small and can have more amenities. But they’re comfortable
- Janice (9/5): A too brief stay in a quiet relaxing space among the vines and vegetables - Wonderful location!!!
Somewhere to sit outside in the garden or watching the boats pass by out the front.
Good breakfast room and less expensive restaurant. Our room, the red room was on the second floor We are elderly and would liked to use the lift.
A second chair in the large bedroom would have been good
- MIckeyBoy (10/5): Charmed - We had a delightful lunch on a warm Sunday in their beautiful space. The tasting menu was delicious. A multi course of locally sourced ingredients from in and around the Venetian Lagoon. There was no meat and frankly not missed. Some really clever tricks of textures and fermentation made up for that. Highly recommended.
- Anne (7/5): Good option - would go back, as long as no noisy parties outside my room. - Natural beauty, stylish unfussy decor. Great place but peace of the lagoon rather spoilt by their hosting a large and noisy party with v loud disco one of the nights. In a small hotel really not compatible with guests looking for a calm evening/night's sleep. They need to consider what kind of customers they are catering to. Otherwise, really good.
- Anthea (8/5): Overall we had a calm and relaxing stay with excellent food at the Osteria - Excellent breakfast choice. However serving tea in a metal reapot is poor because the tea gets cold very quickly. They should invest in porcelain or china teapots and tea cosy to keep it hot. We didn’t like the door banging underneath our room (Green)which made the room shake.
- Tamara (9/5): Superb - We stayed at Venissa twice - previously in Casa Burano, this time in one of Venissa resort's 4 rooms. Staff surprised us with champagne on arrival and chocolates/a rose for Valentine's day. The suite was beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, with black out curtains, extremely nice. The hotel/restaurant is right next to the Mazzorbo stop, or a 7-10 minute walk from the Burano stop. Breakfast is absolutely amazing, when stocked properly :) The Venissa restaurant (Michelin) is a class of its own, very different from other Michelin restaurants, 10+. The only fault in the room itself was the water pressure in the bathroom (forget washing your hair). The food and service in the restaurant Osteria (the regular one, NOT the Michelin one - the Michelin one was amazing) was blah both times we ate there - unimaginative menu and overpriced. Breakfast is generally fantastic (eggs to order, homemade yogurt/butter/granola, fresh juices, amazing bread etc), but in the summer when crowded (guests staying both at Venissa and Casa Burano eat breakfast in the same place) it was understaffed and took over an hour each time just waiting for staff to replenish food in the buffet. Note that if you stay at the Casa Burano, it is quite a hike to get to breakfast/the Venissa reception - especially lugging suitcases in the heat.
- Cathy (8/5): we were there for a wildly windy chilly day in Feb so we hunkered down - fantastic breakfast, like a still life oil painting, very Vermeer
homemade yoghurt , home baked cakes plus cheeses, pastries, eggs no tea or coffee maker in room
- Valentina (7/5): Good - clean, nice location in the peaceful mazzorbo, next to their wine yard and good breakfast, despite I was expecting a more unique food offering part of the resort, there’s an osteria which is a total rip off for the money - we had dinner there and it ruined the whole experience, also of the staying. Overpriced, but more than everything else, disappointing service. Sad, because we wanted to come back for the Venissa Restaurant, but we will think twice about it.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - The location is magic, a tiny wine yard with unique grapes that escaped extinction thanks to this unique winery. food is amazing, tasty, experimental yet still linked to its Venetian roots.
the hotel is also very nice, we had the pleasure to receive an upgrade to the large suite in the attic under a beautiful roof.
A place where is possible to live the “laguna” without the trouble of the many tourists around
- Felix (10/5): Exceptional - Perfectly located to enjoy a mix of native lifetstyle surrounded by nature on mazzorbo and the more touristic, charming streets of burano.
Just organize your dinner if you are planning to eat somewhere else. We experienced limited opening hours on burano, but felt as well comfortable eating at venissas osteria contemporanea.
Everyone was very nice and we could enjoy a relaxed atmosphere yet no wishes left unfullfilled.
January seems to be a good choice to enjoy a relaxed venissa and not so crowded burano.
- Georgie (10/5): Incredible from beginning to end! - Everything!! You can not fault anything from
the minute you arrive to the moment you leave.
All the staff were so kind and helpful. The highlight was the wine tour and tasting with Luca. There is nothing you can’t like about this place!
- Phoebe (4/5): - Great location and interesting surroundings to get away from the hectic city for a bit. However, do not go "off-season" as almost all the activities you go there for (fine food, wine tasting) was unavailable. They should just close the hotel off season to avoid disappointing guests. The staff were unfailingly polite while not offering very much. All in all, there was a stingyness with this property and experience.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oliver (10/5): one of the most magical places we have ever stayed, but food in bistro dull, not up to standard - wonderful tranquil place on an island in the Venice lagoon. This is a truly exceptional place to stay. we dined in the bistro twice. the food was poorly cooked and uninteresting., as if famous chef in Michelin restaurant was uninterested. wine list also dull for such a fabulous place
- Lucy (5/5): Quiet, very expensive but pretty location. - the room was beautiful & staff were helpful. it was incredibly isolated & quiet. the hotel was pretty much lifeless. the restaurant tasting experience was hugely overpriced for what it was. most disappointing wine pairing. Wine measures were tiny and the last drink was a coffee flavoured beer! hotel bar non existent really.
- Ann (8/5): Very good - Location

- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (9/5): Superb - The location was perfect, easy to reach Venice with the ferry - the stop is only 1 minute walk from the hotel. The staff was really kind and helpful, the room was clean. None, all good
- Susie (5/5): so nearly great - location is amazing
vineyard is lovely
staff very helpful noise from building work throughout the day - made it unpleasant to sit in garden and eat breakfast
restaurant was closed the first night we were there and no one told us on booking
meal mixed in quality - my main was cold and pudding wasn’t very nice
- Christian (8/5): - Nice experience to stay on one of the Laguna islands. Vaporetto stops right in front of it, and it's a short walk to Burano island. The room was very nice and fully equipped, but a bit small. Unfortunately, after dark, it best to stay inside and to keep your windows closed because of mosquitoes. The high quality breakfast was served in the beautiful garden.
Empfehlenswert. Wir würden wieder ins Venissa gehen.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Bella esperienza - Personale molto gentile e disponibile, struttura moderna (speravo su maggiore qualità di arredi notte), colazione da sogno. Posto magico
Ottima TrAttoria adiacente.
- Eros (8/5): - Petit déjeuner à ameliorer
- Coree (8/5): Stay on 11th October 2018 - The hotel is in a great location, in walking distance to Burano. The room was comfortable and well equipped. The staff were helpful for the most part. Unfortunately, breakfast times aren't ideal as they were 8.00 -10.00, making early starts to the day quite inconvenient. On our first morning we arrived for breakfast at 8 (as we were heading to the main island early) only to be met with a hand-written sign informing us that breakfast wan't being served until 8.30. As we had a water bus to catch, we had to skip breakfast.
To the hotel's credit, they did arrange for us to grab a quick coffee and croissant the following morning at 7.45 as we had a flight to catch.
We were looking forward to dinner in the Osteria during our stay, as it is a Michelin recommended restaurant. Although the food was good, it wasn't any better than many of the other restaurants we visited on our trip, especially considering the price of our meal.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Truly dreadful! - We booked and paid for a 3 night stay at Venissa Wine Resort, and flights to and from London some time ago through Expedia. We spend a weekend in Venice every year and thought that this particular hotel would be a bit different and a cut above the rest. We always use Expedia. Before the appointed date, Venissa got in touch via Expedia to say they had made a mistake and had no room available for us. They suggested we change our dates. As the flights were already booked and paid for and our annual leave booked this was not an option, so they said we could stay at their hotel Casa Burrano instead. This is on a different island some half mile walk via a bridge away from our original booking. We were very disappointed but had no choice but to accept. On arrival at an address given to us in Burrano, we were then walked to a small terraced house a few hundred yards away at which we would be staying. The accommodation closely resembled the type of room that student backpackers might have used. The room was very clean, the shower good, but the furniture very basic. No mirror in the room, the plug in the basin did not work, no shower cap provided and a TV that only showed Middle Eastern channels. The view from our room was of a blank wall and an ATM machine. The outside space at the back of the house was approximately 10 foot by 6 foot and looked onto a derelict plot. Our expectations of views of the vineyard and garden at the rear and the canal at the front of the origin
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely boutique hotel on the most beautiful island - This island is the most beautiful place and the hotel is gorgeous. I’d miss the Michelin restaurant and eat in the bistro. Otherwise the place is clean, the staff gracious and helpful.
- Scotty (6/5): - Great location, quiet and beautiful. Great staff. Bed was cheap construction and not too comfortable. Strong flood lights shined on our windows all night with only lace curtains, requiring us to wear eye masks to sleep! Dining at Venissa was crazy expensive! 300 euros for 2 persons plus wine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great spot away from the day visitors
Great getaway from Venice for a short 2-3 day escape from all the tourists
The food is amazing st the hotel and also the
Local restaurants
- Brendon (10/5): Great place to stay - Nice room ,lovely place have stayed here before and will stay again in this quiet area of Venice
- Larry (10/5): Quiet and relaxing - A perfect respite from a long journey in a quiet location only 30 minutes away by vaporetto from the hubbub of Venice
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet villa/resort near Venice - Venissa is a 6 room water's edge wine resort and culinary retreat on Mazzorbo; it is located about 30 minutes from Venice by water bus (vaporetto, which runs about twice an hour); the wine is from a rare grape (Dorona) that was saved and cultivated after a devastating flood a few years ago and now there are only a handful of releases so far and the vineyard produces only about 3,000-5,000 bottles a year (the price is currently a few hundred US dollars a bottle, depending on the release year and rarity); the rooms are large and comfortable with air conditioning (important in summer months); the staff is very pleasant and accommodating; and we spent each morning enjoying a fantastic breakfast at Venissa and then exploring Venice and Murano for the rest of the day; returning to the quiet beautiful resort every night was far better for us than staying in Venice at a busy hotel.
- Vic (10/5): Peaceful, beautiful, and pleasant - The Venissa hotel was wonderfully peaceful and relaxing compared to hotels in Venice. The staff was helpful and friendly. In all, we were very pleased to have found such a nice place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quiet sanctuary a boat ride away - Venissa is a beautiful, romantic and special place. A 30 minute boat ride away from Venice provides a peaceful and memorable experience. A tiny place in the middle of a secluded vineyard with clean rooms, amazing breakfast and friendly staff. 3 minutes away from the picture perfect Burano. Will definitely be coming back in the future.
- k (10/5): - execellenT place to stay!
Very artistic and huge farm behind the building.
Unfortunately the Restaurent was closed, but they booked a table at the local Restaurent for us. Very thoughtful. Breakfast was very good too. Freshly cut fruits and fresh hot cappuchino. I recommend to anyone indeed!
- Michele (10/5): Bliss and serenity on Mazzorbo - My husband and I went off for a two night break and wanted to stay at Venissa. It was magnificent. We arrived late on Monday so rang the hotel and one of the charming young members of staff was waiting as we got off the vaporetto. It is off season so there is nothing open but boy is it quiet and serene. What a spot!! Super bliss. The room was immaculate and cozy with everything thought out ie. bedside lights, nice linens, and fantastic bath products. If you want to get away from the crowds of Venice this is the place. Be prepared to ride vaporetttos to get here though. The breakfast was super original and healthy with fresh fruit, bread, yogurt, parma ham and cheese. First we were offered a bottle of water (sounds weird but great way to start the day). Could not recommend the place more higly.
