Guest Reviews
- Norie (10/5): Lovely, perfect escape! - The hotel is always comfortable, clean and welcoming. Breakfast is very adequate and comprehensive. The best part about this hotel is the swimming pool...always maintained at a very warm temperature with dim lighting...perfect for a long, relaxing evening swim. Highly recommended!
- Akpevwe John (9/5): -
- Marie (10/5): -
- Karl (8/5): It was enjoyed. - good hot breakfast, clean room, friendly staff taller toilet
- MacGorman (5/5): Would not return. - Expected a Hilton buffet breakfast to be of much higher quality. My grown children laughed about it.
- Andrea (7/5): It was good value considering free parking, the full kitchen, and the breakfast. - I really liked the layout of the room, the bathing supplies and the full kitchen (you need to be clearer each room has a full kitchen. I had no idea snd I would have brought dinner if I’d known, adding value to the stay). The couch is comfortable but I did not use the tv as there was debris in the remote that looked like fecal matter and I was not willing to clean it!
The black out curtains were great.
I did appreciate there was a bag of extra linens should we need something.
I also appreciate the roll of paper towel.
Breakfast was a great surprise and was abundantly stocked, even at 9 when we got downstairs.
It was an EXEMPLARY experience. The staff on our stay at the buffet were outstanding and very patient. They refilled and cleaned constantly. They deserve recognition.
I saw an interaction between who I assume was a manager and them at around 9:35/9:40 and he wasn’t particularly kind even tho they were trying to clean up. He needed to lead with a kinder tone, imho.
I LOVED that tampons and pads were supplied in the public women’s bathroom. A stash of 2 pads plus 2 tampons in the rooms might be nice too.
Shower gel vs soap may make more financial and environmental sense. There is a soap bar in the sink should someone prefer that. The bedroom air circulator blows directly on the bed. It’s very uncomfortable and off-putting. I had to use the office chair and a large pillow to redirect the air or it would have kept me awake
Nit that that would have been an issue, the bed was atrocious. The pillows were terrible and there was food under the bed.
The dishwasher hadn’t been put away prior to my visit. There is no dish soap to wash dishes and other items I might need to wash. The drain plug was brown with slime. It should be cleaned.
The bathroom was not up to standard. The portion covering the pull bar screws was dangling and thus the bar is loose from wall rot.
The back of the door is scraped of paint and the toilet seat was loose and dirty. There was no SHOWER CAP available which I expected so did not bring my own. With a fixed shower head you must provide one.
The light at the hood fan/microwave was out so I needed to leave the overhead light on as it was the warmest light. This was a frustration as I just wanted a bit of light not to have to close the door.
The shower plug was non-functional so I had to remove it entirely. Not pleasant.
I also needed to sew up a tear in an item and there was no sewing kit. I do expect sundries at a nice hotel. It was nice to have glassware. Most of the plates were chipped or dirty.

- Z9360IApamh (8/5): Great location and staff, okay food, not so great pool. - We chose this hotel out of several in the area for its suites, saltwater pool and included breakfast. The suite was clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette was equipped well enough, but could use an updated coffeemaker and better quality coffee.
The location is great - very close to the antiques and farmers markets, and a short drive to the village and other amenities.
The pool was disappointing. It’s small, shallow, too warm and there didn’t seem to be much movement. There were clumps of hair and a rather large dead bug in the water, and the pool deck is quite slippery when wet. It wasn’t well lit, and didn’t seem to be used much.
The breakfast was fine, just average, although there were a number of options, as was the food at the manager’s reception. However, the service was exceptional no- the staff helpful, friendly and accommodating.
The hotel was recently renovated, has good wifi and seems to have quite a few long-term guests, which contributed to a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
The price was competitive so we would definitely consider staying here again knowing what to expect.

- Zannat (9/5): Comfortable stay, good amenities, great breakfast. Would absolutely stay again. - Fabulous hot breakfast with foos that actually tasted good. Lots of items to choose from. Room was very comfortable, larger than what I expected. Good amenities and a table to do work was much appreciated. Also, good number of plugs for electronics. Location was easy to get to, quiet, and like that Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart were close by. Check-in staff could have been friendlier.
- David (10/5): -
- Natasha (1/5): -
- Gsil (9/5): Enjoyable stay and loved the proximity to the market - Breakfasts was not impressive either morning. Eggs were cold and dry. Sausage both mornings were under cooked and not appealing-needed done browning-turkey sausage not nice and tasteless. Hot buffet was on the cool side. We are not picky but there was a lot to be desired. You need to really review menu and spend time with preparzz as toon staff. It was not a “Hilton” standard. Good comfortable large room-very clean. Housekeeping staff went aboard and beyond. Kitchenette well stocked. Loved our stay except breakfast-which could be readily remedied.
- Kathy (7/5): - Good location, clean Was woken up at 5am and again at 7 am with the fire alarm
- Tricia (10/5): Excellent place to stay to visit St. Jacob’s market - Breakfast was a great selection The breakfast was a little hectic. You just had to wait for more to come out. They ran out of the cut up fruit. Maybe a little longer would make it easier to accommodate so many people.
- 846stewartr (2/5): Extremely frustrated - I had asked this morning for a late check out one additional hour.l was denied from the hotel and supported by homewoodsuites customer service because housekeeping could not accommodate the request.,due to heavy schedule.l have stayed at this hotel 6 nights in the last two weeks and had housekeeping maybe once. However now l am being told there to busy.l am a 72 year old handicapped man who never complains.l have a son in hospital and l am traveling back and forth from toronto .l had told them this but l guess customer service has gone the opposite direction from modern technology.
- Jacquie (10/5): - Very accommodating and pets can stay
- priscilla (7/5): -
- Amy (1/5): -
- Linda (10/5): - Location for st jacobs playhouse theatre perfect. Restaurants close by. Free breakfast was perfect. Staff very accommodating and friendly.
- F2666BXcharless (2/5): I won’t be staying here ever again. - Honestly customer service was terrible. If you don’t believe me, go and find out the hard way, there are many hotel options in the vicinity. I’d recommend going there.
- Soobedoo (9/5): Great stay in the Waterloo area - The room was spacious and had everything I needed. The breakfast was good and the staff were helpful. The bathroom was a bit dusty but the room was otherwise clean
- Alyson (9/5): Wonderful, would recommend! - Hotel was very nice and modern. The room was large and had everything you need. Pillows were flat and the ceiling fan only had one setting (high)
- Norie (10/5): Fabulous winter getaway! - We really enjoyed this visit at the Homewood. The room was clean and welcoming. The bed and pillows were especially comfortable on this stay. My favourite of all was the warm water in the pool which made for a terrific, pleasant swim on a cold, winter's night. Breakfast was comprehensive and tasty. Everything was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. A very pleasant stay. Would highly recommend! Nothing.
- Nicole (10/5): - Everyone was above and beyond. The location was walking distance to the market and the train
- Cathy (9/5): Thank you! - Convenient location, very clean and great breakfast.
- Mobile649289 (6/5): Bathroom needs a very good scrubbing/update. - I've stayed here before, and rated it 4/5, not so this time. Once again, we stayed in a suite. On first inspection it seemed fine, but the bathroom sorely let it down. The finish on the tub has seen far better days, the baseboards are covered in dust, and the grout needs a very good scrubbing. To top it off, the toilet seat doesn't fit the toilet. We skipped using the shower in the morning, as it was truly off-putting.
- Christopher (4/5): - Great location. Good amenities and good options for the complimentary breakfast. We had several issues with the room that had to be addressed a few times. Firstly, the thermostat was not working properly, so they had to send someone to fix it. Then the baby crib we requested when we booked was not in the room, and had to return to the front desk to request for it again. When the crib arrived, it was left with no bedding at all. So we had to contact the front desk again to have someone bring it up. Finally, the mattress was extremely worn down, with large indents on both sides, which resulted in a very uncomfortable sleep. Overall, not a great stay.
- Bernadette (3/5): Wouldn’t stay there again - The room was way too hot. There was a weird smell and the coffee from the coffee machine tasted like chemicals. Better temperature controls in the room. Pillows were bad. Amenities in the bathroom were almost empty.
- Jill S. (7/5): Positives outweigh the negatives. - We love the location, close to antiquing and the Farmers Market. Enjoy having cooking facilities so that we can make a quick meal after shopping and make our own breakfast. The bed was comfy and the room super clean. Parking is close and free. For the most part it was quiet, until the hockey tournament folks got back from practice. The room was cold and the thermostat not working. Someone came and opened the window unit, that clearly stated,to use the wall thermostat, pushed a few buttons and snarled, it’s working. Don’t use the wall thermostat. Sheesh. Not pleasant. Asked for a second chair for the dinette table so that we could eat together. Folding chair brought eventually but it was filthy. I covered it with a towel. We have booked four times now and always seem to get the view of the dump next door. Definitely want to keep drapes closed. Breakfast was cold and sausage grey. Had to beg for a bagel as container was empty. That’s why we eat in our room. Staff was hit and miss. Depended on who you got. Some very pleasant, others downright rude. The good outweighs the negative but definitely not a five star hotel.
- Darlene (8/5): Staff were friendly and responsive. Had a heating issue in the room. Reported to front desk and requested a couple of bl - Very clean, modern decor, spacious comfortable rooms. No peanut butter at breakfast. Instructions for TV channel guide would be helpful.
- Patrick (10/5): -
- Manhui (1/5): - The front desk experience was very disappointing. The clerk was not professional or welcoming, she just handed me the room card without giving any directions on how to find the room. After wandering around, I had to return and ask for directions. The room turned out to be hidden after several turns and was located at the very end of a long hallway.
To make things worse, both room cards didn’t work. I had to come back with all my luggage and wait in the check-in line again to get them fixed. After a long wait, there was no apology, just said “it should be working now.”
Overall, the experience was frustrating from the very beginning of my stay. I will definitely not return.
- RafeH_13 (2/5): Unreliable hotel- currently serving as a dorm for university students - Unreliable hotel. Cancelled our reservation as they are housing university students. Left our family very disappointing - beware when booking.
- Mitchell (8/5): -
- Matt (10/5): -
- PATRICK (10/5): - The staff (ALL) of them were very accomadating and obligimg and very friendly.
- McKenna (10/5): - Clean, breakfast was yummy and wide selection and lots of room for parking
- Graham (10/5): - Not enough long carts. Had to wait 90 minutes. Should have at least 4 or more carts!!
- Gary (8/5): - Nice property near shopping centre and restaurants. Breakfast was decent but the Manager’s Reception on Wednesday evening was excellent (enough of a food selection to have dinner there). Room was ok but our shower had a loose grab bar, a potential accident waiting to happen. Staff were friendly and efficient. Parking was easy. Overall, I would stay there again.
- Frank (10/5): - Convenient location, clean, great staff and quick check-in and check out.
- Sandra (10/5): - The room was perfect for a getaway.
Would recommend the hotel
- Kate (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Yes
- Vicki (8/5): We had a fabulous time. - Fabulous breakfast, suites are well equipped. Bathrooms need grab bars, higher toilets, hot tub.
- Jennifer (6/5): - Bathtub had dirt lines , as did the those of our friends ‘ in 2 other similar suites .
When survey was handed to staff at check - out it was crumpled up and thrown in the trash in front of the guest !
All 4 reading lights on the 2 Queen beds not working … they actually fell off - ie - only served as decor yet the same ones in our friends ‘ rooms worked .
Coffee at breakfast buffet terrible - always lukewarm ; the in- room coffee was hot and okay . Forget about decaf coffee : when pointed out to staff that it was cold , was told , “ yes we know , a new coffee run is being brewed right now “ . Ot never materialized , nor the next 2 days .
No simple shower caps supplied - on asking , “ sorry we don’t supply them “ .
Linen change only done every-other - day , not daily as expected . Wouldn’t mind the sheets , but no towel replacements after having thrown the used ons in the tub for expected replacements!
- Tim (10/5): - Great location, great rooms, great staff easy to park!
- Sharad (9/5): -
- Francesca (10/5): - Excellent
- Diane (10/5): - Clean room, spacious and the staff are great!
- Adam (8/5): - Shower was out of shampoo.
- Jennifer (10/5): - B
- Diane (10/5): - Rooms are very nice, and its very conveniently located for going to the St. Jacob's Market.
- Bryan (8/5): -
- Victor (10/5): - Very nice.
- Janet (10/5): - So close to St Jacobs market and dining options. Only 10min to university of Waterloo. Great space and amenities. Breakfast was the best I've had at a hotel. Highly recommend. Will stay there again great price.
- Brenda (8/5): - The size of the suite is amazing. Furnishings are nice. Hard mattress, position of the tv; could only view at 35 degree angle to bed. The fridge is very noisy in the middle of the night. Signage for room numbering outside of elevator would direct guests instead of having to walk in the wrong direction first.
- Greg (10/5): Highly recommended - Excellent room and amenities
- Lori (10/5): - Large comfortable room
- Arezou (10/5): - Close to market
- Vicki (8/5): - Great value for money.
- James (8/5): - it was good all around
- Daniel (10/5): - Very good selection at morning breakfast, nice clean room.
- Sandy (10/5): Friends travelling - The room was more then I expected! Beds were comfy and it was close to everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great many selections to choose from.
- BRAD (10/5): - Beautiful hotel, beautiful property
- Flavio (10/5): - Nice, clean and comfortable
- Marius (9/5): The rest of the stay was great and will use them again - Great location for our need Cleaning staff forgot to leave towels and never took garbage out under kitchen sink. Had to take it to them twice
- douglas (10/5): - The property was very clean and staff friendly.
- Radmila (10/5): - Location is great. I like the overall feel. It felt like a home. I was even inquiring about and considering a long-term stay (i.e., 2 weeks or more). As a Waterloo University alumnus, I would love to come back and spend 2 weeks in the area. i would definitely stay here.
- RONALD (8/5): - Location was very close to University of Waterloo, which is great. It was safe and quiet. Breakfast was included with our stay, which was good, however it lacked variety. At times we had to request extra toilet paper.
- heather (8/5): - Liked proximity to Market and Playhouse.
- Sandy (8/5): - Staffs were friendly and helpful!
- Lisa (10/5): - Nice large rooms and comfortable beds. Good breakfast buffet. Only complaint was they said they were going to clean the room every other day and it wasn’t done during our 3 night stay.
- Tien Hy (10/5): - Great location, quiet and safe. Near farmers market. Great staff, always friendly and helpful. Complementary breakfast has always been a staple at Homewood Suites but we would have wish to have more variety and to have reusable dishes, ustensiles and cups instead of one time useable at the common eating area. Not far (10 minutes drive) from University of Waterloo for future Waterloo parents who wish to help their children move.
- Thomas (8/5): - There whelots of children around. However the room was very quiet.
- Steven (8/5): - great for business trip
- Monica (10/5): - I have Celiac disease, so a room with a basic kitchen was a godsend. It was clean, easy, and comfortable. I was able to bring some food with me, and for at least one meal each day, be confident that I could eat safely.
- Zahra (10/5): - Great property and we loved our suite
- Anne (8/5): - Excellent proximity to St. Jacobs Market
- Chen (10/5): -
- Stacie (10/5): -
- Patrick (10/5): - Clean. Walkable to market.
- Susan (10/5): - very quite
- warlord (8/5): Nice Hotel Near Market - Came for a wedding weekend and this location was near other hotels that hosted other guests for the event.
Hotel had enough parking and 2 EV charging stations, nice lobby and large sitting area beyond. Small indoor pool and a few conference/event rooms.
The room was a suite, not just a room. Large enough kitchen and full sized fridge, large microwave, dishwasher and plates, glasses, utensils and such. The sitting area had tables and a couch that could pull out into another bed. The TV though was oddly placed so that you would have to pull up a chair to see it as you couldn't really tilt the TV to be seen either from the couch or the bed on the other side of the room.
Closet was big and had a safe inside. Bathroom was very large and no issues at all. Sleep quality was great and had no issues with the room, other than the TV position at all. Good place to host a get together prior or after an event.
Breakfast was a good selection food and seemed to have scrambled eggs, potatos and sausage both days, but some other things I think that changed as well as I noticed one day they also had tortillas and some Mexican style food as well. Waffle machine, and numerous other items. Food was really good and a very large room to eat.
Location is great if you are going to the Market. Some food options as there is a brewery there and at least one restaurant nearby as well as outlet stores. Close enough to get to St. Jacobs too. Far from much else, as it's kind of in a pocket north of the city.
I lucked out getting a good deal compared to family/friends who got another hotel in the area who had much smaller rooms and less things offered such as breakfast, etc...
- Tina (10/5): - I always stay at this hotel and it is consistently top notch. Clean, comfortable, great breakfast, friendly staff.
- Michael (10/5): - The second day at our stay the breakfast food was ice cold, eggs, potatoes. The food needs to have warmers placed under them.
- Sidney (10/5): - Lovely
- hilbornquaker (8/5): A good place to stay - The room, beds, furnishings, bathroom were all really good. The complimentary breakfast was good as far as this kind of service goes. If you love a good breakfast, go across the street to the restaurant there. You have to go across the parking entrance to the next hotel to find a bar. That wasn't terribly inconvenient in nice weather.
- Veronica (6/5): Overall good. Bathroom not properly cleaned. - Bathroom cleanliness.
- Brandon (8/5): - Clean and beautiful rooms. Staff is very friendly and polite. There are a few items that could be improved. First is the pool, while the pool room was warm the pool itself is not heated and very cold compared to the room temp. This made for a bit of an uncomfortable swim. The only other issue was at check in called to see if they had an early check in available and they told us they would call us when the room was available and we did not get a call, checked in at normal time without issue.
- Nicola (9/5): Perfect stop over - Fantastic facilities in our suite
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Paulette (7/5): - Room was spacious, bed comfortable - friendly staff bathroom floor needed some cleaning- dirt in corners behind the door and corners in shower had dirt in them as well
- Tamara (8/5): - Check in had a long line at 3:30 pm. There was only one person at desk who did a fantastic job of getting people through. They should have had more people to assist her
- Jeff (10/5): - Good,very well, like
- Félix (10/5): - thank you
- Carol (10/5): Great place to stay - Location close to the Market and playhouse Nothing
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Hotel for a Visit to St.Jacobs - It was our first time staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Waterloo/St.Jacobs with our family. We had the Studio Suite with 1 King Bed. We came to check out the market and enjoy some sights around the town. Our check in was easy enough, Carl was very kind and efficient. The room studio suite was clean and very spacious only negative is that the room was too cool for our liking, but we adjusted the temperature and it was fine. There was a pool and fitness area, but we did not have enough time to enjoy it this time around. There was free wifi available and if there are any issues connecting - just ask at the front desk and they will give you a promotional code. The breakfast room was quite spacious compared to other hotels and breakfast was served from 6:30 am to 9:30 am. Again, only negative is that the room was a bit cool in temperature for us (bring a light sweater). We found that by 7:30 a.m. it was the busy time. The breakfast offering was more generous than most hotels that serve only continental breakfast. The had a good sampling of breakfast foods for all tastes from scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, toast, bagels, muffins, oatmeal, make your own waffles, yogurt, chia pudding, fresh fruit (apples, bananas, oranges) coffee, tea, water, cranberry and orange juices. Another small inconvenience is the parking - there are not many parking spots in the front of the hotel, but more along the side and back. It is free parking. Overall, a nice hotel and experience for us.
- Veronica (9/5): - Breakfast good.
Location great. Pool was murky.
