The kettle in our room was dirty on the outside and a few stains on the bed sheets also the paint work on the doors around the hotel were brown where they hadn’t been cleaned. Abhishek (4/5): - Excellent location , great staff but very old and worn out rooms. No AC, dirty small pool. Breakfast is limited to set e.g. only 2 eggs , you can’t ask for more. All menu items have set limited quality per person. No lift. Bathroom was dirty and small. Room service don’t clean fully, just clean the trash.

Breakfast was nice and you could pick what you wanted. Downside was that towel was not replaced, even though I stayed for almost a week. The carpet in the corridors to the rooms looked quite grubby and if this was replaced I think it would make a big difference, as the hotel does have a lot of positive points but doesn’t give a great first impression.

Anthony (8/5): 5 nights at Gracellie - We had a sea view room which was nice comfortable and clean with a good bed. All the necessary things worked well - shower bath and toilet. View was ok but spoilt slightly by the window privacy stripes to stop hotel rooms across the road seeing in or hide the large flat roof before the sea view. It is a work in progress and they are doing their best with a good bar and pool also a really nice resteraunt with outdoor decking area which is also the breakfast room with a decent selection cooked well. Could keep the carpark / front area better by weeding as it is the first thing you see whether passing or visiting. We would stay again. Thank you.

Verified traveler (10/5): Sea view room, recommend! - Stayed with family in a sea view room. It was spacious and clean, the view was amazing. Great amenities in the room. Food was great - we had breakfast and dinner, cannot fault a thing. Sensational home made chicken nuggets for the kids and butter chicken curry was great. Service was genuine, it would have helped if we were told to use our own key to get into the property once the front door shuts in the evening, but other than that it was all full marks. This is not a minus in any way but if staff wore name badges, I would be thanking them by name in this review. Will definitely book again, thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Sarah (10/5): - The staff at Gracellie are utterly fantastic, and really made the stay. Whilst the rooms look a little bit run down, the friendly staff and location make this a lovely place to stay. The hotel is a very brief walk from Shanklin beach, and the bus stop and train station are very close. Shanklin old town, Shanklin Chine and Sandown are all walkable distances too.
Paulos (6/5): - Rooms aren't made for families. The building is too old and needs refurbishing. Breakfast was very economical. Continental food is served with barely enough in the plate for an adult person. The hotel needs to think about this.

robin (10/5): Hospitality gold - An amazing experience and place lovely staff that went above and beyond expectations. Although all conditions in the hotel weren't spot on ie fixtures and fittings (due to age of the building) the wonderful personality of the friends and family that run this establishment leaves you feeling better than you when you arrived. The bathrooms are refurbished to a high standard and location handy to beach, train and local shops. The bar a fun and jovial place for customers, residents and any walk-ins equipped with a dart board, patio, pool table and a quite side to relax and chat or play a selection of games. Being a seasoned traveller was pleasantly pleased with my stay. Thank you to Kelly, Charlotte, Laura, Kai for stepping up in the kitchen and all the other congenial and lovely members of staff for making my stay a happy and memorable experience.
Emma (8/5): - Itvwas our first time to the island and it couldnt have been a more perfect location, 2 minute walk to the beach. Staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. Room was a nice size and breakfast was lovely. Can't wait to come back next summer.

Malina (10/5): - We had a pleasent stay, only faults are our main light didnt work, had to search for a spoon for coffee as none was left in our room, plus breakfast was hectic, when we arrived, a young lady working was on her own with plenty of guests to attend to and she was clearly stressed and in need of a break, but laura stepped in and handled it all nicely and polite, laura was available 24 hours of the day, im not sure if she had any rest herself, i couldnt appauld her more, thanks laura for making our stay at your hotel very pleasant. This hotel defo needs more staff.

Explained that they would not come in to the room during our stay, unless we asked for bed change etc. Which was fine with us. The ensuite was a bit snug, but overall great value for the price. Good cooked breakfast every day.

Breakfast good bonus with good choice. Hotel not suitable for those with mobility issues and is situated at top of hill. Overall pretty good value.

Matt (10/5): A wonderful stay with our dog - On arrival at Gracellie Hotel we were greeted with big smiles and a warm welcome-(especially for Miso our dog!) He was given a goodie bag with toys and treats in it and we had a lovely chat with the lady on reception too! We were shown to our room which was on the top floor and some these rooms were being redecorated.The hotel is being given a massive overhaul and being brought upto date. We used the hotel as a base for visiting family and it was perfect. The breakfast in the dining room was staggered so it was not busy.The layout of the dining room was spacious and we were not too close to others, the option of eating out on the veranda was there too. Breakfast was amazing and vegan option was catered for- dog option of sausage was given once we had asked! Very friendly and welcoming hotel, being updated and was great having the dog with us. We are going to use this hotel as our base each time from now on.

And we had the best English breakfast we’ve had in years- I even took a photo!! Great view from the dining area of the sea. We will definitely be recommending it.

Harvey (2/5): DISGRACEFUL - This hotel was advised on google and hotels.com as a 4 star hotel. It was not . The owner knew about this and said she needs to contact google. Reason she hasn’t is because it provided more business.! The swimming pool wasn’t open and hadn’t been for sometime, the shower leaked so bad we had to use all provided towels to mop the floor up, the toilet roll holder fell off. The bed side lamp didn’t work. Windows didn’t open properly due to neglect. And after waiting 25 minutes for breakfast we decided to leave . I have reported this hotel . And do not recommend staying here . Other problems occurred but I cannot list them all. THIS HOTEL RUINED OUR STAY ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT !

Currently (Aug 2021) the hotel is missing a chef which is a major problem for them. The property is in need of a lot of work to bring it up to a decent condition, the reported 4 star rating doesn't accurately reflect the hotels condition.

Charlotte (recent new manager) was very friendly and done the best she could. But there was no food…. Just continental breakfast. No issue for us though. Has potential if they spend some money.
Rachel (10/5): Great friendly hotel ( and I’m fussy ) - Arrived at the hotel to be greeted by friendly staff. We were shown to our family room which was spacious and clean with a sea view. We were told on check in that the hotel didn’t have a chef due to staff shortages so breakfast would be cereals and pastries rather than a cooked breakfast which was fine by us. The staff were clearly multitasking and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Decor is dated but so what !! A clean friendly hotel. Definitely would go back.

Verified traveler (6/5): - Before I checked into the Gracellie Hotel I was unaware they had staffing issues and no chef available to provide meals. I was advised breakfast would instead be continental because they could not provide a cooked breakfast. When I came downstairs in the morning I was hoping to find fresh croissants and pastries with a pot of tea or coffee on the table. Instead the breakfast consisted of cheap alternatives and no selection of jams. I was advised they will be getting a delivery in the week. I ended up buying my own pastries and condiments. I also found the tables were not cleaned and all the floors were a bit grubby. I found the room to be a good size and comfortable throughout my stay but there were no towels apart from hand towels available, I was advised they were coming but I never received and gave up asking. My room was not freshened up or the bedding changed. in fact I did not see any form of cleaning going on throughout my entire stay. On one occasion the front desk was left unattended throughout the evening until the next day, no staff I could see in the building. The staff were all lovely and I felt welcomed and the location was great but they could of done a bit more to address the issues they were experiencing such as hiring an agency chef and going to the cash and carry to ensure there was a selection of foods. What staff they did have could have done more to clean the bedrooms and maintain guests safety. The pool was also unusable also non maintained.

Ruta (2/5): Not even a 1* hotel!!! avoid avoid dreadful beyond - I have no idea who made them 4*but they need to lose their job.First walked in and was smelled like cannabis.Room is not looking like 80£ not even in there dreams.Fare price should be £40. Very dirty bathroom and walls with mould.Room very tired and dated.In the night time from room 22 you can hear a lot of bad words from staff and how they complain that they didnt get any tips. Bar argue with breakfast waiter for tips and every night this discussion keep until 02.30am. At breakfast we went at 09.30and the lady she was watching her watch regarding the time as she wanted to finish quiqly. Nobody in reception most of the time. Housekeeping ... not at all. AFTER 6 nights we get some new towels...Breakfast is a joke ...better to go out in town as is only english and no divers like a vegan or veg option.My cup with tea from breakfast was with lipstick which was dredfull. No menu from restaurant in the room.When we left no even bye bye,or to ask how was our stay.Avoid NO INTERNET IN THE ROOM.

Martin (4/5): Nice sea view, uncomfortable room. - A fairly typical seaside hotel in a busy seaside resort. Benefits from a great position overlooking the beach. Nice sea view. Inside was generally tired. The bedroom was one of their better ones apparently but the mattress was barely a small double so one of us had to sleep on the couch whilst the baby had the cot. Incredibly hot room so we went out and bought an air conditioning unit. Breakfast was ok and got a bit better once they refilled their latte machine with more milk powder. The room wasn’t cleaned during our three days which may be a Covid thing. Staff were very friendly.

Rooms little outdated but all you need for weekend away. Good service and breakfast, easy check in and check out. Good value for money. Would reccomend.

Verified traveler (8/5): What is it trying to be? - Lovely view from the room. The hotel looks nice and comes across as pleasant to look at. Gradually you find things here and there that are not quite as you would expect. You could see the room had been repainted to freshen it up, but then there were paint spots all over the carpet, which itself had seen better days. Dare not use the bathroom towel rail, you could see from the paint where it was before, and now put back so it looked ready to fall off at any moment. Dining room looked good, but again paint spots all over the tables, from recent repaint, and you could see that the paint had not been removed from around the windows.Tables had been varnished but bubbles appeared when hot tea/coffee pots put down. There were also areas where the window sills were filthy too, and a good window clean would have improved things. Cleanliness throughout other areas could have been better, but as there seemed to be hardly any staff about is this something that has suffered under Covid in order to try an keep the place open? The breakfasts were good, well cooked, but a pity the hotel restaurant not open every evening for a meal, as it is quite a walk to find the another eating house. Overall the hotel could have been much nicer with attention to detail.

PP (6/5): - The hotel location is great, and the staff try their best. Those are it’s two best attributes. The owners need to either decide to invest in the hotel or walk away, as it needs a lot of work to get to a decent standard
PETER (4/5): - This Hotel is obviously ' work in progress' The Reception area, Dining Room etc., very clean and modern. There was a downstairs Bar which was never open. The Bedrooms are found through a large number of fire doors and staircases. No Lift. The Bedroom I was given was at the back, over looking the Kitchen skylights - the room was small, very Hot and at night smelt of cooking. The Staff, including a Guy called Tom were the most helpful you could find. There were many cars on the Car Park but I hardly ever saw any other Guests ! Apparently a lot of these cars were up for sale and the Car Park used as a Car Sales ! Despite taking Covid into account, the bedrooms were never serviced, bins never emptied, beds not made and Tea and Coffee facilities not topped up. This was my first trip to the Isle of Wight which, despite the lackings at the Hotel, was delightful. I would certainly book in Shanklin again - not necessarily at this Hotel unless the facilities were improved.
Brian (8/5): Isle of Wight short break. - Four of us had a nice 4day stay at the Gracellie hotel,the hotel is going through some refurbishment work and I’m sure when completed will be a top hotel, it’s in a great location right by the sea and lots of parking space,the staff are are very friendly and helpful especially Tom who was brilliant. Food was excellent especially Breakfast all freshly cooked and a nice clean restaurant.so would recommend for a nice break in IOW.
Phil (10/5): - Everything about the place was good from the room to the staff, the Coronavirus restrictions made things awkward but certainly not the hotels fault. The menu was limited but again through the fault of Corona.

Peter (8/5): Short break. - Made very welcome on arrival. Friendly, helpful staff. Room very clean with adequate furnishings. Great breakfast in a roomy dining area. Situated close to the esplanade and amenities. The old village is fifteeen/twenty minutes walk. The hotel needs some TLC but work is underway on upgrades. All in all a great stay. Recommend to anyone.

Sandra (10/5): - We stayed for the long weekend at the Graceille it was fantastic. Wes the Manager and his staff are so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately due to Red Funnel our trip was delayed Wes did everything in his power to get us into the hotel when we arrived. We didn't want to cause him trouble so crashed at a family members until morning. The food was absolutely tasty and the portions are of a good size. Breakfast came in the hotel package and was not disappointing it was tasty and wholesome. The room was a good size and the bath and shower had continuos hot wate r. There was entertainment a DJ who sat out on the verandah and played a great amount of Ska,Northern Soul and Mod music as that was the theme. On the Sunday there was a guitarist who was really good. All in all we had a great weekend and we highly recommend staying in Shanklin at the Graceille .
Paul (6/5): Shanklin short stay 2020 - Good location and friendly, accommodating staff; however, our room was needing a bit of attention...both in the bedroom (carpets & bed) & bathroom (the shower door doesn’t keep in water), & the WiFi signal was out of reach. Also the view - tho’ accepting it was a non-sea view - could be more than seeing the hotel bins & old white goods & doors? None of this is to disregard the staff...& the dining area which was fresh & clean, & breakfasts were to a good standard too.

Allen (8/5): - Staff friendly and helpful but we were slightly concerned that no masks or visors were worn whilst dealing with guests or serving food. Sanitiser available, one way system and well spaced tables in restaurant, but no requirement for face coverings elsewhere in the hotel. Some dust found on chair in bedroom, but otherwise nice room with seaview. NB Despite what it says on Expedia site, there is a reception desk at this hotel.
C (8/5): An up and coming place to stay - Front of house man (Tom?) Was excellent and nothing was too much to ask. Other staff clearly less experienced but friendly. Hotel is being upgraded and so some areas still a bit tired but overall clean, friendly and comfy - and helpful staff too!

m.murray (6/5): - Hotel itself is situated in ideal place about a two minute walk down the shore,hotel has a good lay out! But thats it stayed there for nights got there two halved toilet rolls all we had in bathroom,never had our towels replaced! Our main door wasn't very secure ii.e big split inside of the door frame also our floor wasn't hovered prior our arrival! Many missing light bulbs around the hotel itself and the dining room wasn't swept not once i dont think since we were there i could be wrong but the floor dirty not good to eat in. This hotel needs a quite bit of money to get it upto scr its got a lot of potential it could be a lovely hotel i appreciate its not easy running a hotel but what i can gather is that its been taken over from different owner's so i wish them good luck. Getting some good cleanersbe a good start.
Chloe (8/5): Great for a short stay. Beachfront! Great location - Great location, few seconds from Shanklin Beach. Plenty of parking. We believe it's currently transitioning under new management, so few things need doing etc. As it was very warm when we went, the room was uncomfortably hot during the night, even with the window open. Would suggest adding in ceiling fans or desktop fans at the very least (we didn't ask for one to be fair). Bed wasn't too bad to sleep on, but the bottom of the mattress looked very very old. The carpet in the room was quite dirty as well and the Shower didn't drain quickly, but all minor things. Staff are wonderful, very friendly. Breakfast was good, and included which was even better. As a vegan it was no problem for me. They even went out and got me alternative milk which was nice of them! Overall great stay for the night.

Stacey (6/5): - The location is great but we had a few issues. Couldn’t get WiFi in the room. Tv wasn’t working and both were mentioned to the evening manager. We had an issue with noisy Neighbours but couldn’t find the night manager so spoke to them ourselves which made no difference. Couldn’t drown the sound out with tv as it wasn’t working. Manager said it would be fixed the next day but nothing happened. Pool was closed. Not bad but not worth the money you pay
Sheri (10/5): - Celebrated our 10 year anniversary here and was such a lovely relaxed break. After reading old reviews we were a little dubious of what to expect, but we were pleasantly suprised. The staff are lovely and so helpful and cheery. Each member made you feel relaxed and chilled. The food was amazing, we had breakfast and an evening meal and it was delicious, couldn't fault it. The steak was soo good! The rooms are currently going through a staged makeover and we had a lovely sea view room which has recently been refurbed. You can tell the manager Wes is really putting effort into the hotel to make it all the more better. Will definitely be returning.
Claudia (4/5): - I went with my two kids and booked a family room apparently with expedia. I've got a telephone call saying that the room was not available but they could accommodate us in a similar room. The room was very dirty, there was not toilet paper, no toiletries, the table was dirty with old coffee stains, a shower head that never arrived. The manager promised that he will moved us to a sea view room in the morning. He gave us free B/fast. However, upon arrival in the evening he told me that he could not move us because there was not other room. The manager came to put the shower head on the dirty bathroom; then he left the room and magically managed to give us a family room that was clean and nice! However, the experienced was not good. I would like my money back and I would not recommend it to stay in this place.
Mark (10/5): ovely stay with steak to die for - Now under new management we had a lovely stay here. The room was clean and comfortable. A the food was out of this world. Wes, the general manager will go above and beyond to make sure your stay will be perfect. Tom is an excellent host. Give it a go....we will be back ASAP..
