Guest Reviews
- Emma (9/5): Lovely staff great location will come back - Great location Easy to find, clean
- carl (10/5): Great hotel in the centre of the lovely town of Dolgellau - Room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.
The breakfast was exceptional Nothing
- Deirdre (7/5): - Great decor, Lovely breakfast, very welcoming , pleasant staff Room was stuffy...opened window but there was a lot of noise outside all night
- Jonathan (9/5): - Breakfast and general ambience was superb
- Sidney (8/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Stefan (10/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): - Grande chambre familiale, comfortable, bonne nourriture Pas clair que le lit pour enfant n'est pas fourni, on a finalement pu s'arranger avec le canapé
- Cheng (7/5): Overall the stay was comfortable n the breakfast was substantial - The rooms were nocely decorated The only gripe was that the ceiling above the shower place was moldy
- Stephen (8/5): Good location but lacks the friendliness, parking and secure bike storage - The location was great for our needs and the food at the hotel was very nice. Good dinner and plentiful breakfast The room was very hot and stuffy, it was loud at night due to drunks in the street below making a noise and generally over priced. Some staff were miserable and appeared to dislike us in their manner. Carpark was too small and "Secure walled Car Park" and bike store were not secure and the bike store was a dumping ground of rubbish you had to step over to put your bikes in. Generally a bit overpriced for what it is.
- Anne (9/5): -
- Cath (8/5): - The views from the hotel room and the size of the room . The room was very hot but they did provide an electric fan.
- Paul (8/5): Excellent location, lovely small village and the hotel was very comfortable and staff great! - Breakfast was very good. The bedroom was spacious and bed comfortable. Amount of sockets and mirrors was very good. Would have been nice to have had a small chest of drawers for somewhere to keep underwear etc as the drawers in the table under the tv were far too shallow. Saying this there wasn't really anything I did not like though.
It was a sunny weekend when we stayed and so kept the window open. The church bells chimed every quarter of an hour which at midnight is not very funny when you are trying to sleep and you get 12 chimes and then a small chime at 15 minute intervals! Why at this time of night???
- Caroline (7/5): Great breakfast everything else could have been better. - Exceptional breakfast, larger than most cooked breakfasts I've had before. Some updating needed, lots of marks on walls in bedroom, shower seal disgusting, needs replacing. Bathroom door needs cleaning (Room 209). Photos of rooms on website deceiving as ours was smaller than expected. Disappointed with evening meal, triple cooked chips are not very nice. Couldn't get in car park on second night so cost us £15.75 to stay in the long stay.

- 64aecfb295a871f88c1145766db59a93 (9/5): Thoroughly delightful experience - The bed was comfortable. The shower had power. Found the facilities to be excellent. The room for 5 adults was quiet and cosy. We had dinner in the dining room, which was beautifully presented. Breakfast was brilliant!
We all appreciated the power sockets and light switches next to the bed for easy phones charging. The sun blinds over the windows were helpful to keep the morning sun out and gave us uninterrupted sleep. Not enough towel hooks in the bathroom. And beware of the low beams in the family room 🤕
- Peter (7/5): Ok -
- Will (10/5): Great for a short stay, as a base to move on to the next destination - Slept well in comfortable bed. Had tea in the hotel which was great with a friendly service
- Eleanor (9/5): Really pleased, great rooms, easy with the dog. - Very clean - lovely staff, good friendly atmosphere. Nothing
- Ben (10/5): -
- Susie (5/5): Was a dispapointing experience - Location was great, bar was nice and restaurant for dinner was good. Bedroom was shabby, broken blind, window wouldn't shut completely, heating was on when arrived mid afternoon, off when we retuned after dinner and room was freezing. No blanket in room, only a bedspread. Breakfast had a poor selection, not the menu advertised on website, not fresh pastries, only one choice of yogurt and fruit thta had been cut looked most unappetising.
- John (10/5): Really enjoyed my stay, great staff and great food - Lovely place , friendly staff Nothing
- D Dale (8/5): - Location was great it was for my mom and her friend stay.
Unfortunately they came back just after 12 to find they was locked out and couldn't get in. They did in the end but panicked them.
Think there should be a key for guests to be able to get in them selves Rooms was lovely breakfast was good 👍
- Jenny (9/5): -
- martyn (9/5): -
- Wyn (5/5): Very nice holiday in a very convenient hotel but disappointing room cleaning - The room was great and the position very convenient There was a very poor standard of room servicing - surfaces around the sink in the bathroom not cleaned over 4 days.
Dirty bath mat not replaced despite putting it in the bath as per protocol.
Also a pillowslip stained slightly overnight on our first day by blood from a small cut was not replaced over our four day stay
- KS. McNamara (8/5): - Location Bathroom too hot due to the unnecessary heating
- Kath (9/5): -

- Zachary (10/5): -
- Nick (10/5): -
- Daniela (9/5): Hotel in un bel contesto - Hotel posizionato in una bella località che offre anche un ottimo servizio di ristorazione, ambientazione tipica britannica Il piatto doccia non era molto pulito e il riscaldamento scarso
- Margaret (9/5): Pleasant -
- Harsha (8/5): -
- K (10/5): Short break away - Great location
Parking on site but plenty of parking a short walk way
Great comfortable clean room
- Pepper (8/5): Dolgallau winter stay - Lovely food, great breakfast.
super comfortable bed.
Great location right in the middle of town.
Very quiet at night.
Easy check in and parking which is at a premium in Dolgallau
Very friendly and accommodating staff
We had a lovely time, we'll be back. I wasn't sure about the small flask of milk that was handed to us at check in? For tea in the morning i assume, but i didn't trust it to stay healthy from 3pm until the next morning so I didn't use it.
Also our hot water plumbing was a little noisy, i hope we didn't wake anyone 😬
- Holly (6/5): A good pub meal and breakfast but room needs a deeper clean. - Great pub, great food, friendly staff. Very dog friendly! Nice breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately while the room was nicely decorated, it was dirty, there was mould in the shower and window sills, the floors weren’t clean and there was thick dust on the headboard, lamps and elsewhere in the room. It could do with a coat of paint - tea and coffee splashes up the walls and marks elsewhere. A shame because everything else about the stay was great.
- carol (7/5): - Staff and location Restaurant service
- Katie (8/5): Lovely hotel - Our room was cosy, the food was good. Location great for being near the beaches. I felt sorry for the staff as there was a wedding on and they seemed to be struggling with that and normal service.
- Ratcliffe (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Staff lovey, and food very good indeed Only stayed 2 nights
- Steve (3/5): - No hot water
- Olga (10/5): - This hotel has a very subtle and understated elegant interior. A beautiful composition of colours and textures in the interior. Large and comfortable room, nice bathroom. We had a great rest.
Wonderful attentive service.

- samantha (10/5): - We have stayed here about four times. It is comfortable, great breakfast and food. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The town location is great .
- Ioan (2/5): Staff need to be more welcoming - We failed to stay. No help in car parking being 87 &88 to sign in. All we had wa « you can’t Park your car there »!!! Most certainly
- Berry (10/5): -
- Elaine (10/5): -
- Lorna (10/5): -
- David (10/5): We will be back - The staff were superb food outstanding and rooms warm and cozy big enough for two people Nothing
- Harry (10/5): - Good food N/a
- Russell (9/5): -
- Will (8/5): Brilliant central location to facilitate outdoor adventures. - Excellent location in the centre of Dolgellau with a great breakfast. We stayed in a dog friendly room - we had our dog with us - and i suspect these rooms are a little more practical i.e. hard floors rather than carpet etc. Taking a pooch also restricts your access to the full bar and restaurant, but this is absolutely in line with my expectation. The water pressure isn't great, and the shower was defintiely on the gentle side - the rain outside was falling harder! The room wasnt perfectly clean - dusty floor etc - but then neither were we when we arrived back from a muddy mountain.
- Nick (9/5): -
- Micky (9/5): Fantastic in a beautiful TOWN - room was lovely and big. Breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel
- Emma (10/5): Excellent 👌 - Everything. Great hotel, staff and food. Room didn’t have a fridge ( but that is being very picky)
- Marg (7/5): Comfortable hotel - Helpful staff, in center of town Breakfast fruit was very poor condition. Rooms & building could do with a refresh
- Gareth (9/5): Excellent hotel - All superb all round. Couldn't fault it One of the members of staff was having a bad day
- Mark (10/5): Lovely overnight stay in Dolgellau - Lovely old hotel in a great location in the centre of Dolgellau. Well located for exploring the surrounding countryside and the beautiful Mawddach Trail.
- Suzanne (10/5): great place to stay in the heart of the town. - room 306 is wonderful - I've stayed with you many times and appreciate it when i get this room! staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner are always excellent. this hotel is ideally placed for work for me and is my first choice when i have to travel to North Wales. everything is great!
- Richard (8/5): If you do not stay at this hotel you are missing one of lifes treats - This pub/hotel exceeded our expectations in every respect. Location facilities value for money just superb. From the time we arrived(early) to the time we left John the Manager could just not do enough for us. We were three guys on a road trip just looking for a bed, what we got was excetional mainly in the way were looked after. You cannot buy that sort of support these days and I spend most of my time in 4/5 star fancy hotels. Having to leave was the worst part of our stay
- Jennifer (9/5): Lovely place to stay! - The Royal Ship exceeded our expectations. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the room was large and very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The town of Dolgellau is also lovely and worth visiting.
- Caryl (9/5): Fabulous hotel in a lovely town - From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcomed and that continued throughout our 2 night stay. We were given the disability room as requested which was lovely and clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we have ever had - compliments to the chef! We had an evening meal during our stay and the fish and chips was delicious.
Situation of the hotel was central to the town and parking was relatively easy.
Plenty of choice of drinks in the bar.
- Jennifer (9/5): Perfect hotel in Wales for a stop over - Comfortable beds Nothing
- Suzanne (9/5): Comfy beds great good and cheerful staff made for a relaxing break. - Good menu, cheerful, friendly staff. Very tasty good and plenty of it. The manager,John, was extremely helpful to us. We arrived on the wrong day but he sorted everything out with a smile !!. Reading lights in the bar area would help when the weather kept guests indoors.....especially old folk like us.
- Richard Glyn (9/5): - Fantastic location.
Delightful staff
Triple room was a real bonus Nothing . It was excellent .

- Patel (10/5): Great place to stay. - Good sized rooms and excellent breakfast
- Owen (9/5): An elegant hotel situated in an ideal position to explore this beautiful part of Wales. - We stopped here on a motorcycle tour and so pleased we did. A beautiful period coaching inn situated in a delightful village. The reception and bar staff were excellent especially in accommodating my friends dog (yes, he brought it on his bike). The rooms were fantastic, beautifully furnished, smartly decorated and generously proportioned. There is nothing not to like.
- liang (10/5): - De kamer en het diner Niks
