Guest Reviews
- Williams (10/5): It was lovely, can't wait to visit again. - The room was spotless. The mattress was super comfy and the location next to the sea was perfect. A really beautiful old hotel with plenty of character, would happily stay there again. No complaints at all, stairs are a bit steep for my old legs but there is a lift.

- Steven (1/5): Shocking - Nothing I booked and paid for my stay with my daughter here through booking.com only to get a phone call on our way to say they was closed and they had booked us into a different hotel called “The Waverley” Well what an absolute ****hole this place was, I refused to stay and had to find another hotel costing an extra £70 with no refund from the hotel and no refund from booking.com either despite contacting and explaining the situation.

- aeU6964SF (10/5): Staff are the spirit of the Nelson Hotel - Caledonian tour from Glasgow - stayed with my Mum. I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at the Nelson Hotel - brilliant staff (Nicky, Lisa, Chanel) to name but a few. You really did look after us, and made our stay extra special. Happy with our room/suite, good atmosphere, events on most nights. Great location - we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
- NeilB474 (8/5): Two night stay Nelson Hotel Great Yarmouth - My wife and I booked 2 nights at the Nelson hotel great Yarmouth , left luggage was available but as the rail station is about 25 mins away we waited until 15.00 check in. We were easily checked in by a friendly guy on reception who was there most of the time we were there. He allocated us room 104 on the first floor stairs and lift available. The hotel was clean warm and comfortable near the marine and fair centre. Room 104 was a family room with double bed and single bed. The room was warm and well stocked also very clean. We had two nights there and slept very well. It is a walk from the rail station but we would use again. Unfortunately the property asks for passport proof required on check in, This has happened at other properties twice before. First time we were already travelling so to late but did have passport photo's on phone and this was acceptable the second time we carried them but was advised we had checked in on line so not required. The Nelson requested this and we sent a message asking if phone photo copies were acceptable only to be advised the manager would need to be asked when next available at 07.00 Friday , we were travelling at 06.00 by train. So therefore we had to carry our passports, on check in at 15.00 at reception no passports were asked for. This needs sorting.

- 111940 (10/5): Nelson Hotel Great Yarmouth - Nelson Hotel Great Yarmouth
4 days holiday, well situated on sea front close to the pier and Winter Gardens. Room satisfactory bath with shower comfy bed. Good entertainment, varied menu looked after very well by the staff helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed my holiday will go back again

- 89keirang (10/5): Amazing hotel and trip with Caledonian Travel - Came with Caledonian Travel on Colin's coach.
Amazing location right on the sea front.
Very close nit team, who were very quick to help guests, and to clear tables between courses in the evening. The food was beautiful!
I stayed in room 311 with my Grandmother. To get to our room, we had to use the lift, which was small, could hold 5 people with comfort. The room was large and very spacious. Just needs some TLC in the bathroom and a new netting on the bedroom window. The room was very clean. Couldn't see any dust in the room or bathroom.
The bar was lovely and warm in the evening. The bar staff were absolutely excellent. Downside is it's a cashless bar. I personally prefer to pay cash in bars (unless it's a chain bar/large business). Paying cash would've made the bar area 100% better! Still, the service was excellent.
Staying on the side of the hotel overlooking the free on street parking and the main road, the noise was excellent. I'm a very light sleeper when staying in hotels and I didn't hear any traffic. Just a few other coach travels going past the road around 10 pm when the entertainment was over and the bar closed.
The menu changed every day for your evening meal. Had to order my evening mean on the morning for the kitchen to make enough of it.
The lift can comfortably carry 5 slim to medium sided people without suitcases. Probably 2 people with 2 suitcases on the day of arrival and departure with coach travel.
I'm not sure if the staff sees these comments, but to Nikki Wiseman and staff, thank you for a lovely stay, myself and my Grandmother Pauline are highly considering coming back with Caledonian Travel... Purely for the food and will recommend this Caledonian Travel trip to friends and family.

- michael (3/5): Good location but hotel is tired and dated - There was no breakfast location was very good Lots of noise from other rooms
- Chervorn (5/5): Visit 4-6 April 2026 - Location, cleanliness We paid £110 pn room/Suite 106. Flickering lights in the bathroom and hallway. Jacuzzi bath that didn't work at all (no explanation offered on arrival), no shower unit. Curtains didn't close properly throughout. The bed/ mattress was extremely uncomfortable so much that we both woke feeling sore and achey and in no way refreshed.
Only windows that opened were the one in the bedroom and the small one in the lounge (all others were just painted over) there wouldn't be a viable fire exit should we have needed to leave in the case of a fire trapping us in the room. Debris all over the "balcony" well if you could call it as such, it's just looked like a dumping ground for unused equipment.
No TV in the bedroom area.
We were not very impressed at all
- Andrew (9/5): - Closeness to the beach N/A
- Myla (7/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): - The closeness to the beach ⛱️ N/A
- Sarah (8/5): - Hotel was clean and comfortable, staff were lovely and great location. Room service came round each day. Pool table which older kids liked. U get what you pay for and the price was great. Will definitely use again. No Guinness in bar.
- rosscl1 (6/5): Good Stay - Stayed for 5 nights on a Caledonian bus trip and was happy with what we paid versus what we received
Room allocated was a suite with side sea view , room was clean and warm , plenty hanging and drawer space, a wall mounted TV , kettle and tea/coffee tray (no fridge) bathroom in need of refurbishment but was usable
Food was acceptable and plentiful , dining experience was a bit different , you picked your evening meal at breakfast, the starter and dessert was served to you at the table ,but main course was buffet style served by the staff , you were called up in the section you were sitting in not the best off experiences
All staff were lovely very polite and friendly
Hotel is in excellent location on the promenade
- NorthStar39053200943 (4/5): Nelson hotel, Yarmouth - You couldn't get a better location, but thats where it ends for us.our room was awful! All bathroom floor tiles were loose and moved around when walked upon.floor in the room had a slope on it which was very strange.the breakfast was fine, help yourself (except the fried eggs) but not a problem. There was one toast machine which was simply not enough and caused mayhem! Apparently they have two but one was broken (but really any hotel would surely replace it knowing the hotel was full!). Evening meal is chaos! You sit down and receive your starter.then when that's finished you sit and wait.... Basically until everyone in the room has finished theirs! Then they call out sections, 1-4 and wait until your section is called. Then wait again for dessert.we left the restaurant after our meal on one night at 20.45! from around 7pm, That was the first night, after that it was down at 6pm but still the same method of service.after a wonder around the hotel we were looking to see where the entertainment room was, we soon realized that the bar area was infact the entertainment room ! So on the night you had the entertainer stuffed in the corner near a fire exit, playing to what was essentially a packed pub...just did not conform with what you normally get with any Caledonian holiday I've ever been on.entertainment wasTuesday and Thursday, bingo Monday and Wednesday after bingo there was nothing!.there was a lady staying who's room was broken into and had items stolen,we were later told that there was infact 5 incidents! So someone entered the hotel, which is quite heavilly covered with cctv, and broke into rooms to steal.so it begs a question of how this was possible.police did visit the hotel but little comfort to the poor people whose belonging were taken...shocking! Apparently from what we were told Caledonia said they couldn't do anything because they don't own the hotel!!.overall a huge shame of a stay only softened by a Mississippi boat trip and visits to the sea life centre and pleasure beach. As I said it's a perfect location but in our opinion things really do need to be drastically improved because if they were it could be a gem of a place!
- Ward (10/5): 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - Everything was very clean and the staff was very friendly All the staff feels very friendly
- Flynn (6/5): - Proximity to beach Some tiles in bathroom flooring loose
- Selby (8/5): -
- powellelsie22 (8/5): An enjoyable early spring break - We visited on a five day coach trip and had an enjoyable few days. The hotel is a little run down but is in the process of making improvements. That said we were happy with our room, which was warm and cosy and spotlessly clean and with a sea view.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a problem with our tv on the first night but a member of staff came up immediately and tried to solve the problem, this wasn’t possible and the tv was changed the following day.
There was not the range of choices on the menu that we usually have, but what we did have was good and plentiful, and again the waiting on staff were very pleasant.
We had entertainment on two nights, one of which was quite good but the other was very mediocre.
When we arrived we were told by our driver that there was no porterage, but the staff would help if necessary. There was quite a lot of steps up to the main entrance, which as we are both in our 80’s was difficult with cases, however a member of staff carried them to the reception area where we could use the lift. There is a slope which leads down to the basement and the lift, but the door isn’t always open. There is one lift, which was very busy on arrival day but ok the rest of the time.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would certainly visit again.
The hotel was about 20 minutes to half an hour’s walk into town, so some might find it a problem but it is all on the flat.
- Matthews (6/5): - Right on the sea front , great location Great friendly staff but a very dated hotel , needs a complete refurb. Very tired and dirty in places... Shame
- David (5/5): -
- Sarah (7/5): - The hotel was clean, staff were friendly The bar wasn’t open and no breakfast options
- Nina (10/5): Lovely hotel - Perfect location. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice room. Good price.
- Mark (7/5): Good - Clean room and comfy bed
- Sherral (4/5): Not the best of experiences! - The shower was very powerful 👍 The room very small bed uncomfortable very noisy from the road traffic, curtains and nets filthy overall the hotel is in need of a refurbishment!
- Charlie (7/5): Good value for money - Efficient friendly staff who were there when I checked in to welcome me. Great value for money given it’s on the beach location and see view from the room. Tea and coffee available in the room was good. Very outdated room with some areas of damp and decay. Could definitely do with an update very soon, likewise so could the bathroom.
- Raymond (8/5): -
- Kerri (7/5): A nice place for a weekend break - Room was fine for a one night stay and good location No breakfast facilities a nice place for
- Debbie (8/5): Enjoyed our stay, but had to go out early for breakfast and evening drinks. - There was no breakfast available or lounge bar open which would have been nice. Was told only breakfast and lounge bar open when coach visits are there for staffing No breakfast and no open lounge/bar
- Emma (7/5): - Very good location
Easy check in Room smelt musty/ damp
- Grace (1/5): AVOID AT ALL COSTS - Nothing The staff were rude and discriminatory towards females which is ironic because the manager was a female and her attitude was worse and disgusting. The rooms have severe water damage and you are not allowed to have a shower. The linens are stored in a mold infested room. We got swapped into three rooms in total and each one was just as bad as the other. They forced me sleep on a broken metal zed bed that cut my arm and gave me no blankets. Someone has used the bathroom toilet and it hadn’t been cleaned. The ceiling was falling down in the second room. Facilities that were advertised were not given and we were told no very rudely. The manager should not be running that hotel with the way her attitude and behaviour stinks and the hotel should be closed down as it’s a hazard to all in it. One of our rooms had a leak that soaked the bed and my belongings and the manager said she didn’t care.
- Carolanne (8/5): -
- Susan (7/5): Pleasant hotel in a very good location and parking was very easy - We did not have breakfast so I am unable to comment, room was clean, bed was very comfortable, bathroom the first in Yarmouth I would have used, staff very pleasant. No bathroom toiletries supplied, only hand wash in the bathroom, unfortunately as I had stayed in other cheaper hotels who did provide toiletries I never took any with me for my one nights stay so unable to use the bath or shower.
- Batchelor (8/5): Good clean hotel nice staff - Location was great None great for a one night stay would stay again maybe for a bit longer
- roy (8/5): -
- Hannah (4/5): - Room was very hot, window wouldn't stay open, bed was uncomfy
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Benedict (10/5): Very relaxing and informative. - The location on the Marine Parade was next door to a great cafe, ideal for breakfast. I also greatly enjoyed my accommodation. The bar is cashless, I use cash to buy beer.
- Fay (8/5): Great night out with friends, will be back - Nice clean tidy room bed comfortable A small fridge
- Michael (9/5): - Unfortunately there was no breakfast which is why I only gave it 9/10 The rooms were very large as was the bathrooms and both were exceptionally clean
- Derick (10/5): It was a fantastic experience - Location Parking area
- Hazel (6/5): Very clean but need updating - Location is very good. Staff were friendly. Very clean Both rooms had paint coming off the walls, mattresses were unfortunately. When we got back in the bar area was I darkness.
- Jordan (8/5): A truly amazing hotel - The price I paid and what I got was amazing and right next to the breach too was just amazing and the view was spot on! The bed was comfy the shower was just right and the staff was very welcoming. Overall I would 100% stay again 😊 The only bad thing I can say was parking outside the hotel wasn't great when we turnt up to check in there was none and went out for the day and parked the car else where till gone 11pm to then there was a space
- Karl (1/5): Shocking - Nothing Broken stuff In Room mould ants wall paper falling off damp
- Taylor (9/5): Very respectable hotel - Very nice location right by the sea and the sealife center
They upgraded our room and what a room we got very comfortable and clean. Lots of tea and coffee layed out and the bedding and towels were lovely and clean can’t ask for much more from a cheep hotel. It was not bad but the only thing I would say to improve on is the decorative parts quite old but it’s all working as it should so why change something that’s broken.
- Alfie (5/5): - Staff was friendly and got upgraded to a bigger room Bed was really hard and uncomfortable
- Samantha (1/5): - The bed was so hard didn't sleep
- Marcin (2/5): -
- Nathan (9/5): Nice and comfortable with tiny additions needed - Clean comfortable and welcoming hotel. Full catered for in room. Great location on seafront The lounge in the suite was very comfortable and like you had space to relax when needed. Bed and duvet were nice and comfortable but pillows were very thin and let things down. Window in bedroom rattled due to being an old building. Could do with little bits of touches too make it perfect. No breakfast or evening meal available due to not enough guests
- Robert (10/5): Epic - No breakfast would’ve have been useful
- Carl (1/5): The place itself was awful - Nothing Everything
- Tanya (2/5): Wouldnt stay again - Location No bar all weekend so whats the point in having a weekend away room was so small
- simon (4/5): - value for money and location wallpaper coming off the walls
damp in bathroom with a crack
shower curtain was dirty
shower floor was dirty
window screwed shut
- 656AnitaR656 (8/5): Lovely stay - Great location on the sea front. Skort walk to centre and shops. nice sized rooms warm & and comfortable , good basic food, excellent friendly staff
- 288jaynep (4/5): Thursford christmas show 2 night break - Went with caledonia coaches room clean but in need of refurb.
Atmosphere was winter food poor and end of season so didnt care. hour and half away from christmas show would not stay again
- Natasha (9/5): Loved it - I've always liked the nelson hotel
- Hannes Debruin (8/5): Excellent location and comfortable room - Excellent location right on the beachfront by the arcades, shops and pier. Staff friendly and room clean and comfortable Nil

- George (7/5): Value for money - It was clean Na
- Lynda (7/5): - Sea veiw,
great location
excellent value for money No restaurant or bar service as, advertised
Abit chilly in the room but the man brought us a heater as our wall heater broke
The shower was super hot and couldn't get it cool enough to stand under,
- Dina (10/5): - Staff amazing, live music and has a pool table.
- Brianjames62 (2/5): Very cold hotel no heating - I arrived at hotel got given room key and went to room . When got inside room it was really cold no heating . So I rang reception and he told me do I want a blanket I said no heating on and his reply was not sold many rooms so can't heat who building . He said he would turn it on 6.30 pm its now 7pm still no heating and no one answering at reception. I will not stay here again as the owners do not care about customer service and are penny pinching and leaving customers cold that are staying here .
Shocking attitude and customer care . Do not stay here if you feel the cold I'd be warmer in my car . Stayed October 25th 2025 one night

- Shane (8/5): - Value for money, clean, staff pleasant plus there was a lady singing in there lounge on Tuesday who I found very entertaining, plus plenty of free parking next to hotel
- Colin (6/5): Was VFM at the time of booking, convenient for the beach etc.., but overall not too bad. - Good location, not far from the beach. The room was fine, clean and had most of what you needed, good shower and bathroom, staff were on hand and polite. The bed was really bad and was uncomfortable, made worse by a the bed being next to a solid shelf and next to the window. I suspect I was not in one of the better rooms
