Guest Reviews
- Pamela (8/5): Quite nice - Good for the price The view
- Jaroslaw (8/5): -
- Morgan (8/5): -
- Lavery (10/5): - Quiet Nothing, all good
- Philip (8/5): - Big rooms, good location, lovely area Needing a bit of tlc
- John (7/5): - As comments before, clearly, 'work in progress.'
Potentially, could be a stand out establishment.
However, some basic amenities seem to be put low on the, 'To do list.' No HOT water.
Warm at best.
Towels. Seen better days.

- samar (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay here. Great location, very clean rooms, and the room size was excellent with plenty of space to relax. The staff were also friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
- Miki (7/5): -
- Jolanta (10/5): -
- samar (10/5): - I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, making it easy to get around and explore the area. The cleanliness was top-notch throughout, which made the stay even more comfortable. I was especially impressed with the room size – it was spacious, well-organized, and provided plenty of room to relax. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely recommend it.
- louise (8/5): - The staff were very good, they explained everything to us and they were all very helpful and friendly. The room was very spacious and clean we had a room which overlooked the towns street which my husband loved as the window slid right up and he could get a lovely view. Tea and coffee with kettle in the room we couldn't of asked for more. The only thing we didn't like was that there was limited parking for the hotel, we had a space when we arrived but we went out when we came back there wasn't a space, so we had to find a pay and display car park until a space in the road opposite us came available.
- Allan (5/5): - Staff very friendly Room could do with paint lamps at the beds a good reverberation
- PAUL (8/5): Excellent Staff, great location - Staff were fantastic, clean and functional, great value for money and excellent location No bar, no breakfast and property dated, but would definitely stay again
- Katherine (6/5): Wouldn’t stay again. Don’t recommend. - The staff were professional and polite. The plumping was less than adequate, you could not flush the toilet more than once in an hour, the shower had no water pressure, when you raised the head above your head water only dribbled out. And the bath tub plug didn’t fit so couldn’t even have a bath.
The road and town was loud resulting in a restless night.
- caroline (3/5): Mirror ceilings , thin walls , mistaken vibe - Location Mirrors on ceiling a bit excessive
- Julia (6/5): Ok - Great location, friendly staff Mattress was terrible - all springs
- John (5/5): Fine for a last minute nights sleep - not much more. - Nice town centre location The room was quite tatty and worn. Paint peeling from the walls, the bathroom looked scruffy and didn't feel overly clean.
- Corps Sutler (8/5): -
- Tracey (7/5): -
- Lynne (6/5): Comfortable enough - Location, free parking The bed was a bit whacky. Lights didn't all work. The shower was very weak, toilet didn't flush very well. Stayed before and went back for the location but went for a superior room, which was better then the first time we stayed there. Worth a try.
- Reynold (5/5): 2.5 - Old building. No liftt. Great staff. Convenient
- Nick (10/5): -
- Peter (8/5): A work in progress but very pleasant staff, a comfortable bed and a cheap room rate. Go for it. - The staff were very friendly and helpfully. The current owners are working very hard to turn round what was a bit of a wreck of a hotel. They have decorated the rooms, cleaned the place and are working there way through other jobs. The room rate reflects this and I would gladly stay again to get a cheap serviceable room and help them get The George back were it deserves to be. The location is excellent for seeing Battle and getting to other local attractions and the station is within reasonable walking distance. No reastaurant but direct access to an Italian restaurant. Given my above comments there was nothing I didn't like but don't expect a finished hotel. Just a serviceable comfortable room at a very reasonable price.
- David (3/5): -
- Glynis (7/5): Budget friendly, clean and comfortable for an overnight stay in a famous Sussex town. - This was a budget price in a lovely Sussex tourist town. It was clean and comfortable with free parking.
- Munday (7/5): - The first night we stayed it was so peaceful and absolutely lovely but the 2nd night we had a really noisy person upstairs and they were so loud that we got no sleep at all New residents should be made aware that they may have guest underneath them and to keep the tv sound down to let others sleep during the night. Unfortunately we had the opposite and couldn't get a wink of sleep all night, pretty disgraceful really
- Jeremy (8/5): - Good location. Great value
- Marc (8/5): -
- david (9/5): 3 nite stay - Great location in the high St old because of the age of the building but everyone was friendly and helpful I was happy with my room plenty of tea bags etc yes very happy thank you, Nothing
- Munday (9/5): - The hotel itself is in a very central location handy for the Castle and restaurants.
We got a late check out. Staff very accommodating. The stairs to the room we were on the 2nd floor and carrying 2 suitcases up the stairs was quite exhausting.
- laura (8/5): Good value for money - Good value for money Bit dated but fine
- Charles (8/5): surprisingly good considering it was an emergency booking! - Was able to book at amazingly short notice, room was large warm and comfortable, downstairs was the home to a very nice Italian restaurant Car park at the rear was quite tight and the hotel no longer does food so no breakfast
- Gary (10/5): George Hotel Battle - In a great location close to the center and Abbey in walking distance,
Very friendly staff and room bigger than I expected
A lovely hotel with a great spiral staircase and very comfy bed
- elisdeoliveira (8/5): -
- TheGroovy100 (3/5): Not a great stay. - The proximity for our project in the area was ideal. One of the rooms had to be changed. The beds are very uncomfortable
- Gary (6/5): - Location good and staff friendly. Fair for the price Hotel was run down. Shower didn't work. Needs a good paint up and clean up. But it was only £49/ night and we only needed it to sleep.
- Guest (10/5): -
- Caroline (8/5): Comfortable bedroom with en suite bathroom. Spacious. - Right in the center of town I did not really explore the property, but my bedroom was good
- Francesca (8/5): Cozy little room in Battle - Good room decor and facilities, good location, appreciated fresh tea and coffee every day The room at the top floor can get very hot around 8.30-9.00 am and gets a lot worse during the day. Maybe allow for guests to open the window or provide a fan
- Kayleigh (6/5): - The location is the best feature of this hotel, also free parking at the rear of the property, off the road. Was quiet the whole time, heard no noise from any other guests. The maintenance of the rooms was inadequate, but for the price I paid for a nights stay on a bank holiday it isnt something I would complain about. The fixtures/fitting/ furniture and bathroom was all clean. But had peeling, bubbling plaster on the walls.
- Salvatore (2/5): -
- Salvatore (2/5): Ok if you get the right room. Disastrous if you don’t. - It’s quite quiet and peaceful, despite its popular location. Don’t wait at the desk - call the number instead. The receptionist is likely in the Thai restaurant next door.
No pressure in the shower. No hot water. Radiators don’t work. Bed is extremely uncomfortable and full of broken springs. Electricity turns off when using the hairdryer. Very dusty and unclean.
- Emma (10/5): Fabulous stay and will definitely be returning! - Lovely hotel beautifully restored and in a perfect position either parking. Nothing - all excellent.
- Deborah (8/5): - Great location and room size, very friendly staff. Free but limited parking, we were lucky to get the last space at 14.30 and if we'd come in our other car it wouldn't have fitted. Tiles on the bathroom floor were loose.
- Gary (7/5): -
- Cristian (6/5): -
- Hain (7/5): -
- Sam (7/5): - Location was perfect, staff were very helpful. Very clean and perfect amount of towels. Bed was a little uncomfortable, and the shower head was only halfway up the wall, which made it difficult to shower. Only 2 pillows without any additional in the wardrobe.
- susan (9/5): -
- Iliesha (10/5): Fantastic stay - Lovely little place great location clean and warm I like it all
- Russell (7/5): - A lot of stairsgood place to stay
- Tommy james (7/5): - Actually a nice little stay, stayed in much worse places, warm and clean slept well Parking is a bit poor but you can park it's just a bit tight
- Clare (6/5): - It’s a good area with shops and restaurants, staff was friendly and looks nice inside The room had dirty walls and the bathroom was run down. And the tv serious arial problems
- Christopher (8/5): - General cleanliness, receptionist happy Na
- chris (6/5): - It was convenient for the event we were to attend. Parking was either a damn pain or non existent.
- Merry (9/5): -
- Vincent (8/5): would visit again - Excellent stay, made welcome in a historic building with all the quirkes you would expect. Perfect location for the lovely town. The separate but integral restaurant served fantastic Italian food for the weary traveller. Would visit again The room was bit chilly, but was very old
- Robin (10/5): An amazing hotel and lovely staff just what I needed. Highly recommend a stay at the George hotel. - The hotel and staff were welcoming and friendly and kind what an excellent hotel Nothing everything was perfect for my stay
- Mandy (7/5): Great location and accomodation . Good value for money - Central location excellent value for money. Fridge in the room. Size of the room was v spacious It has a tired decor and the bathroom sink did have a crack.
- Vikki (5/5): It was okay for one night. - Location. Clean bedding, comfortable beds. Friendly welcome. Very tired looking. Paint peeling, part of the shower broken, tap spun around, had great difficulty trying to get it turned off, leak under the basin.
- Adrian (2/5): Very Poor Standard - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great and the hotel itself has a great deal of history. The rooms were in a shocking condition. We accepted that we had booked a basic room but the cleanliness and standard was an absolute disgrace. The carpets in the corridors and rooms were dirty, stained and heavily marked, the walls in both rooms were again dirty and in need of a major redecoration. The furniture was stained, dirty and worn through and the beds had no mattress protectors with both headboards cracked and split and screwed badly to the walls. Both bathrooms were dirty with split and cracked bath panels. Numerous screw holes in the tiles and sealant left on tiles from previous repairs. The floor tiles in one bathroom had no grout at all and the tiles were loose. The thermostat didn't work so there was no control of the heating. The overall decor was very substandard and in need of major work. I have numerous photos of the poor quality but am unable to add more than 1 for each room. More realistic reviews of this hotel are on Trip Advisor.
- Nicholas (8/5): -
- Marieanne (7/5): Pleasant stay - Location, price, upgraded family room, parking, staff, quirky staircase, busy restaurant , shower gels provided Walls are thin, mattress needs changing old, parts of room needed cleaning shower grout, walls , traffic
- Carly (7/5): Lovely room just not amazingly comfortable - In lovely location right in middle of the high street and 2 mins from the abby. The bed was 4 poster. Was shocked to find it had mirrors on the ceiling The stais up the beed room was un level not good if u have mobility issues. The bed was very noisy and very hard. Fridge had 2 pin plug so couldnt use. Shower had no power
Check-In / Check-Out unkompliziert.
- Robert (6/5): - Cheap, local, No heating in room I was cold the first night and all radiators not adjustable
- Debi (9/5): - Nice big room, bathroom and bed spotless Being woken by the binmen
- R (10/5): Would like to visit again -
- Ratapu (9/5): I’d stay again - Great place nothing, all good
- Lee (9/5): -
- Trevor (5/5): Adequate - Cheap and met my requirements Water supply too slow to run a bath or flush the toilet more than once in several hours
- Elo (5/5): -
- Gael (5/5): -
- Tomos Hughes (8/5): -
- Danny (6/5): It worked for us as a short one day stay. - Location, comfortable bed good tv reception. No lounge or breakfast option. It looked as though the original entrance and lounge had been sublet to an Italian restaurant.
- Eberhard (2/5): - I was given a parking space in the back courtyard. The heating doesn't work in the room and the bathroom. There was an electric heater in the room. One could put the portable heater in the bathroom, but there's no power outlet in the lower area to do that. The room is about 30 years old, or perhaps actually so. No one can be expected to live in it like this.
Not everything is old, though; the video cameras in the hallways were up-to-date.
- Angela (8/5): Good location for Abbey and shops. Delicious Italian food restaurant underneath properties highly recommend the food and - Very close to the battle Abbey. No lift
- robert (8/5): -
- Jenny (5/5): - Location. And the bed was quite comfortable It was very tired and not very clean
- Sam (6/5): - Stay was fine. What wasnt fine was the shower being so hot it burnt my scalp. When i went to look for staff to ask how to change it (the cap was stuck on full heat), i couldnt find anyone to help. Being burnt by the shower when i tried to wash my hair.
- lee (7/5): -
- Zamir (3/5): disappointing - I stayed 3 nights and not once did they clean or change my towels. the service and and lack of cleaning, wet wall.
- Mark (4/5): Ok - Cheap / location Could do with a good refit building deserves it , although I know that it’s reflected in the price
- Nicolas (7/5): -
- Lesley (3/5): - Close to high street On arrival glass broken in entrance door with cardboard stuck over it, very rundown in lobby and reception are, going to our room( number1) the bathroom floor and shower base was dirty, blobs of dry plaster in shower base and dust/dirt on floor, I did wipe a bit but then complained. Very dusty behind bedside cabinets and under headboard on skirting board/carpet. Paint peeling near window and on carpet so clearly not hoovered, wooden sticks for teaspoons so after one drink had nothing to use for another one so had to buy 2 spoons from a charity shop. We went for a relaxing night away but around 5.30pm decorators where scrapping the paint in the entrance lobby below our window then at 7.15pm there was drilling on the 2nd floor above us, lots of noise from restaurant just below us with people going in and out of the door to it, we left at 7.30pm as I wanted to go home
- jo (8/5): - Mattress a little uncomfortable good value for the money. Radiator was very stained. But staff always very friendly and helpful Mattress not comfy
- Lawson (7/5): - The room was just perfect Unfortunately, the kettle didn't work ( room 22 so didn't have a morning tea
- R (10/5): -
- Steen (8/5): I stay at the hotel on a weekly basis for work related reasons. The location is perfect and love the Italian Restaurant - Location
Price
The staff N/A
- Stephen (3/5): Wouldn’t stay again - It was just somewhere to sleep It was nothing like the pictures there was no control over the heating the windows wouldn’t stay open shower was dirty.
To have a drink in the bar you had to buy something to eat the way I see it if you are staying in a place that rule should on apply to people not staying there so hence why me and my party was over the road
- Vicki (1/5): The worst experience ever - woke up to being wet and our property being ruined by water pouring from the ceiling above onto and through the four poster bed from water coming through ceiling at 3 to 4am having to change rooms into a room with a bed the mattress was broke and springs coming through so couldn’t sleep my partners speaker was ruined and some of my shoes clothes by the water ruined our anniversary and the day after family celebration had to be cancelled from no sleep having no sleep from the water coming through ceiling
- Jeeva (10/5): Good - Good Good
- Nige (7/5): It did the job - It was very central and convenient The stair climb to the top floor was a mission!
- Matthew Reef (8/5): -
- R (10/5): -
- Simon (7/5): If you are not too fussy, this is an excellent value for money Hotel. - Extremely competitive price. Bedroom and bathroom were both quite big. Receptionist was very proactive and helpful. Although there was no food offering they are above a good Italian restaurant and within walking distance of other food options) Building is dated (although that can be a good or bad thing depending on the customer). Maintenance was not brilliant (chipped paint on walls, crack in bathroom sink, hole in carpet, flap missing on remote) and cleanliness was a bit hit and miss (cobwebs on the chandelier and in corners, historical stain remnants on linen, stains on the curtains but linen was clean, as was the sink & toilet)
- Takahashi (8/5): Reasonably priced hotel at great location to visit Battle Abby and Battle Town. - The location is excellent as it is in the middle of town, easy access to Battle Abby and cafes/restaurants/shops. There are parking spaces behind the hotel so we parked our car there. The room was basic but clean. We were traveling with 2 big suitcases and 2 carry-ons, and we had to bring them up with stairs as there is no elevator so it is not ideal if you are traveling with many suitcases. The mattress and pillows were too soft for me, but it is just my preference.
