Guest Reviews
- Kirsty (10/5): - Joanne couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful.
My room was spacious with a generous bathroom en suite - great shower with ample hot water … and a handy grab rail for those of us prone to falling over when standing on one leg!
Lovely area and very peaceful.
Lots of helpful information provided in the room, with maps and info on bus routes to get around.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return, or to recommend this b&b.
- Cristian (10/5): - Spent the last weekend on Joanne's B&B my wife and, we couldn't be happier. The place is beautiful, clean and cozy and the breakfast? Absolute delicious!. Located just 15 minutes from downtown, it is the prefect spot to relax while staying close the citty buzz.
We loved every moment, and if you’re looking for a warm, welcoming place to stay in Vancouver, Joanne’s B&B is a fantastic choice!
- David (10/5): - Great experience thank you so much. The company and the food were so great! Nice atmosphere
- Nathan (10/5): - Joann is an absolutely lovely host, and serves a wonderful hot breakfast. The accommodations are reasonably priced, clean and the area is peaceful and quiet. I would recommend the House on Dunbar as an excellent option for a stay in Vancouver.
- Miguel (8/5): - The owner was nice and friendly.
- Madison (10/5): - Excellent B&B that is perfect choice for families with students at UBC.
- Erika (10/5): - Fantastic host! Owner was available to help with a wifi issues we were having. Quick to respond.
- Nicholas (10/5): Comfortable stay in Vancouver - My wife and I were made very welcome by Joanne. Nothing was too much trouble. Always happy to give advice to where to go and how to get about. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Need to be aware to options for eating out in the area are a bit limited so grab something while you are out and about. There is a kitchen and sitting room available for guests but not there is no oven in the kitchen. We bought a pizza to cook and Joanne was so kind as to cook it in our kitchen for us. Would definitely stay again if in the city.
- Nancy (10/5): Comfy Stay in Quiet Neighborhood - Joanne is very friendly and our room was very comfy with all that we needed. Breakfast was yummy & we appreciated that we could arrive early with no extra charge. The house is beautifully decorated and the neighborhood is quiet.
- Marilyn (4/5): - the path to the entrance was dangerous, poor lighting and uneven. The Breakfast was a series of poor choices.
- Harry (10/5): Joanne is a great hostess - Excellent stay....especially the gourmet breakfasts....very conveniently located, one bus to get to Granville Island or Gastown, definitely would stay here again.
- Christopher (10/5): - Liked everything
Excellent host, Joanne
Great kitchen
Excellent bus service
Chill atmosphere
Wonderful breakfast!
- Ann (2/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!!! - Power was out when we arrived so no internet! Could not contact owners as they are not on site! We opened door and it smelled horribly musty! It was midnight so we stayed. Next morning power back on and the place was filthy—really hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived! Per on bathroom floor, dirt everywhere! We could not get ahold of owner, nor could hotels.com (we booked thru them). Got ahold of them finally and they told me they would work on a refund. So far—I got nothing! I don’t mind paying for 1night as we stayed (we were supposed to stay for 3 night)! Still waiting to hear from them or owner!
- Yesim (8/5): - Host, Joanne was very welcoming and helpful. Some guests very noisy in late evening.
- George (10/5): - A fantastic stay! There is space, style, warmth and welcome at House on Dunbar.
Joanne is a fantastic host, and her breakfasts can't be topped.
The neighbourhood is elegant and wealthy and I was a bit intimidated but we were made totally welcome. Will return again and heartily recommend this lovely bed and breakfast.
- phil (6/5): Dont take a bath - The bed was poor. Room hot. Air conditioner very noisy. Electric wires everywhere. Bath was leathal. I fell badly in it. Generally its a 5 / 10 experience
- Fay (4/5): - It smelled like mold. The air quality was poor. There was visible mold I include pictures on Google since Expedia let's people pay to hide unflattering reviews. The owner said Vancouver is damp and it always smells like this. I live in Oregon and know damp smells well. I also worked in housing law and know mold when I see it. Unsympathetic when we complained about respiratory irritation.
- Susan (10/5): Dunbar House BnB - definitely recommend- convenient location to visit must-see attractions! Innkeeper accommodating to any needs
😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice experience. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel with a great hostess - The room is very comfortable. The hostess is nice, and she makes great breakfast. Very healthy. Recommend it to anyone
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Joanne provided a wonderful guide for touring the best sites along with directions to each site (public transportation or car). She cooked fabulous breakfast, accommodating my diet with eggwhite vegetable omelettes and the best pancakes I have ever eaten. The entire B+B experience was wonderful. The B+B is on a lovely tree-lined street and provides easy access to all touring. I give House on Dunbar my highest evaluation.
- david (8/5): - the place is nice and freindly but we were surpised to discover that the bathroom was ouutside of our room.
- Bob (2/5): The snoopy owner! - Absolutely no Privacy...the owner of the properly lives upstairs and there is no door between the upstairs and the downstairs unit. The Owner comes down constantly, both when your there and when your in your room and after hours when your attempting to sleep at night.
- Peter (6/5): Not Great Value - I have mixed feelings about this B&B. Our impression of the landlady did not get off to a great start when she insisted we remove our shoes on entering the house, even though it was dry outside. The other guests asked for a cooked breakfast at 8:15 rather than the fixed 8:45, but she refused to accommodate them, and only offered a continental breakfast prepared the night before and left in the fridge.
The cooked breakfasts were OK, but a standard English breakfast would have been preferable to the fancy but not well executed options. For example, the quiche had the filling but no crust and the frittata had way too much red pepper. The homemade juice was like sludge - fresh OJ would have been better.
The house itself had obviously been extensively renovated but the use of tile everywhere made the house generally noisy. The bedroom was fairly small, the bed was uncomfortable, and the wifi was non-existent there.
The Landlady had no control over the air conditioning broken by the previous guest, or the noise at 5 am from the neighbors six puppies, but that all contributed to a lack of sleep and a less than ideal stay.
Overall, this B&B is not good value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Breakfasts in Quiet Location - This is a nice B&B, located a few long blocks from the nearest bus line, in a quiet, residential neighborhood, not too far from UBC. Joanne, the host, was welcoming and provided nice amenities, including a tasty and well prepared breakfast each morning. The location is rather far from downtown, but the public transportation system is good if you are able to walk to the bus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Review - Great B&B!
