Guest Reviews
- Robert (8/5): - Pros: Fast efficient friendly check in and bellboy service.
Had a quick dip in the pool and it had bar/food service.
Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Quiet respite to the outside. Parking was easy. Overall I would recommend.
Cons: there was the same room service food/tray in the corridor for our entire stay. The safes don’t work in the rooms.
- Sonali (6/5): - Ok
- Ceon (8/5): - Overall the hotel is very good. Always clean
- Randon (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay here. The room was good and the pool was turned on when we reached. The room and beds were also cleaned.
- Ryan (8/5): - It’s a beautiful hotel, we were put in the third floor and was told the elevator worked and when we tried using it, we were told we can’t use it without calling the bellboy! The tub was slippery and the shower head was old.
- Jessica (2/5): - Fue terrible el elevador no funcionaba, no había agua, el baño sucio el lavabo del baño estaba tapado, en la noche se fue la luz y no había aire acondicionado fue una terrible experiencia y nada barato
- Wayne (4/5): - Clean pool. Good parking. Old building shows it age. Bathroom towels not clean.
- George (4/5): Run Forest RUN... - Customer service is aweful. Not friendly and too noisy. No information related to hotel..such as restuarant on site and other services. They claimed to have a gym...2 bikes that were not working...no AC abd smell is not good.
I will not recommend it to my enemies
- paul (8/5): - owner was there and immediately took care of problems we talked to her about. really interested in fixing things while we were there, rooms nice, beds comfortable, need some improvements, but overall good stay. restaurant just ok but they say making changes to improve menu.

- Tanya (2/5): - I did not like the attitude of the reservation staff checking me in Naomi. She was very rude and unprofessional. We arrived at 2pm Chetumal time and she did not even want to hear anything I had to say she was like come back 3 no room is ready. Very very very rude

- francis (8/5): ok place - the room was ok for the price-it was clean and all the staff were friendly, the restaurant was good but closed at 4pm,If i ever go back to Chetumal I will stay there
- douglas (8/5): A good overnighter. - It was as advertised, a good old fashioned restaurant, a front desk that gave us a wake up call on time, and called a cab that arrived early. Just clean and lubricate the sliding glass door to the pool.....it was very hard to slide open and shut!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unexpected overall high standards of amenities, rooms, etc etc
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Dependable, easy parking. Consistent performance. Pleasant staff. Very clean, great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I went into their big restaurant which was empty at the time and had the best coco shrimp ever. It was delicious. The gentleman at the front desk walked me through the Mercado to help me change some dollars into pesos very nice. Very good place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pool was very clean but Palm tree seeds and branch fell in the watar
- Celebrity (8/5): - Very clean environment. I love the pool. Very friendly staff. In the middle of the main area of chetumal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel clean and friendly staff, parking space also available
- Miriam (8/5): Would Stay Here Again - Great hotel in prime location for moving around the city. Near central market and Mayan museum. Room quite comfortable, beds comfortable and sheets spotless. Bathroom was also very clean.
- Rodger (8/5): A capital place to stay - We stayed in a junior suite. It was clean and roomy. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We have stayed at Capital Plaza several times and always enjoy ourselves. If internet is important to you I should warn you that it is pretty bad at times. Depending on the room you are in the internet signal can be weak and, at times, non existent. I think that is the single greatest need for the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's always a pleasure to stay at Capital Plaza Hotel, quick check in, clean room and courteous staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I did not like the internet service. It was poor. Internet kept losing signal
- Melissa (10/5): Super nice hotel for the price! - Beautiful and clean! GIANT king bed was sooo comfy! Internet is sketchy so be prepared for the biz center if important.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good family hotel. Facilities seem old and in need of renovation.
- Romaldo (6/5): Needs Upgrade Desperately - Need and upgrade pretty bad specially the bathrooms. Stayed two nights and on one night the water was coming out of the shower in yellow to rusty color .
- Emma (6/5): - I like the rooms and the service but my kids were expecting to swim for the 4 days we stayed and they could not because the pool was being serviced. Its takes all week to service a pool? Very disappointing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very friendly nice and clean pool
To swim in
- Aaron (2/5): - The property had a smell of mold as you walk in the door. The rooms were very tiny and doesn’t have a fridge. Our bed broke down as we sat on it. The blow dryer worked for 5 seconds after turning it on. Great parking and location are the only positives for this place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Older construction that used first class materials that endure. Good overall maintenance, friendly staff, great location, secure parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Love the bed and the breakfast but they must have a shuttle service
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Always love to stay here. Its always our choice. Staff are friendly and property is clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The amenities were good but the room was not clean
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For the most part is ok. Is a bit run down hotel but they are trying hard to keep up with it. The shower was a bit hard to get it going but it was clean which is important for me. The air conditioning is was rattling all night long. Was a bit hard to get it to cool down. I wish the wall way as air conditioned because is hot out there and if you are dress up and on your way out, by the time you get to the lobby you are are all draining in sweat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The grounds and buildings were pleasant and the restaurant provided great food and service. The location was convenient. Our only complaint was the difficulty we had in obtaining more than one package of coffee per day for the room—not enough for two people. Drinking water was also inadequate (1/2 L) and the cost of an extra bottle was too high. Buy it at the nearby pharmacy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff is always lovely. However my reservation stated that we would get two rooms with city view and we did not recieve those rooms.
- Rodger (8/5): Our stay at Capital Plaza - The food in the restaurant was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. We don’t speak Spanish but some of the employees do and try hard to please. The pool is wonderful for children and the bar is close by for adults.
- Deon (10/5): - Capital has been my favorite hotel and remain my favorite. The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean and is great value for money.
- Lues (8/5): - Everything
Food, neathnes, all very clean, helpfull dtuff. And wfi on site with no additiona cost
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very unorganized, no shampoo in the shower, no remote for the ac. They did give us when we asked. The floor in the bathroom had hair all over the floor. It looked mopped but not really clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Just enjoy everything inside and the restaurant the pool and the room everything went well
- Louise (8/5): - Good food, Excellent service, quick check in, quick check out, convenient location, has all amenities and very clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The pool was very nice and the hotel is close to places we like to go.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel have great standards and the service is always welcoming. I would recommend anyone to stay here when visiting Chetumal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is located in a great place...close to many places
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is conveniently located in the heart of town. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good n pleasant. Always a pleasure to stay here. Was a quick trip not long enough.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel is old and some of the rooms need remodeling. We had to be moved out of our first room because the air conditioning unit put out air that smelled like rotten eggs.
The restaurant is terrible. Over priced, they didn’t have chicken, the food was not good at all and the waiter tried charging us for food/drink we didn’t have. Not impressed at all :(
However the beds were comfortable and the TV worked.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice looking hotel in a good area of Chetumal.
Excelent food in the restaurant.
Very helpful staff.
- Karen (8/5): - This hotel was very nice. Our room was comfy and clean. Good place to stay right across from the Mayan Museum.
- Laura Lorenia (10/5): Chetumal - Excelent place and location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I broke my ankle while in Talum and fortunately the hotel had a wheelchair. They let me use it the 2 nights we were staying there, so at least I could get out some. Thank you!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place and staff very helpful. Well located only 30 kms to Bacalar.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s convenient and the front desk staff is good. The ac did not work well and the room was very warm all night.
- Tung (10/5): Centrally located hotel - Clean and tidy, daily room service, Comfortable bed and the hotel in excellent condition, centrally situated, 3 min walk to ADO bus and other bus stations, also near market and shopping centre. Pity BF not included in the price
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Their crepes were horrible. Chef knew what the picture looked like and I did not get Nutella but got chocolate syrup for milk. Still had to pay full price. I put room on expedia reservation and they charged more at the hotel. Horrible and did try to explain but they were right and I was wrong. Never will book again when I have to pay more than I was confirmed.
- Clem (10/5): - A well kept hotel in the city Centre with much to see and to appreciate: Market, Museum, Sea Wall and Walk Way, Shopping, Local food etc. Recommended.
- PatrickH (8/5): - The location is great being right across from the market and Mayan museum. The room was clean and functional and the and pool was in good shape but could use some maintenance or upgrading. The restaurant was adequate and the food was pretty good, not great and a little inconsistent over three days. But overall I would stay here again. Good value for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was pleasant, located in an excellent location close to everything.
My only issue was that the AC in our room was not working that well this also happened in the room of our friends.
Otherwise all was well.
- Rodger (8/5): Capital place to stay - We always love the swimming pool. It is beautiful and relaxing there. The room was clean and spacious. The internet reception was much improved since the last stay. It is still not super fast but we got a strong signal in our room. Parking for cars is a secured area which is nice.
- Arla (8/5): - Great Hotel, great experience, friendly staff, would definitely make another stay
- Mike (4/5): - The room was moldy and was not cleaned properly. Q-tip and dirt was on the floor from the previous guest. Te bed covers were dirty.
- Dan (8/5): Very Comfortable - Very good personal service from house keeper and bell man.
- Dan (8/5): Comfortable and clean - Room service was outstanding. Beds very comfortable.
Restaurant still needs better menu and English menu.
Ave Heros is very clean now as is the Bay,
Congrats to the City Council..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The bed was extremely comfortable. But the wifi was horibble, it kept disconmecting so many times and work extremely slow when it did connect. But the staff and establishment was wonderful overall.
- Angie (8/5): - Capital Plaza is wonderful! Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfy beds & very clean rooms. I do believe they need to upgrade their WiFi system, though, it’s hard to pick up in the rooms. Other than that, great hotel!!
- Joe (10/5): - Room was very good, had a nice pool. Beds were too soft, same like most Mexican hotels.
- Daniel (8/5): - Liked that it was clean, comfortable and well decorated. Would have liked a standard room with a king bed option instead of only 2 doubles.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quick check in. Clean and comfortable hotel. Great location and helpful persons on staff!
- Cheri (6/5): - We have stayed here several times and keep coming back because it’s a nice hotel and it’s safe. But the price keeps going up and this time the air conditioning in our room didn’t work. It was so hot we couldn’t sleep. Had a miserable night to start off our long trek driving across Mexico. Not nice 🙁
- JoseLuisZapata (8/5): - This is a nice hotel right in the center of Chetumal. It is located in the popular Avenida Heroes where you can find many stores that carry different goods and services. It is also located right across the Plaza Chactemal where you can also find many items at very low prices.
- Lisa (8/5): Great location - Good location. Across the street from the market. Does NOT offer airport transfer as the site says... only Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm so if your flight is not within that time you'll have to take a taxi.
- Cheri (10/5): - Clean, safe, cool place to stay. This was my 3rd time. My go to place in Chetumal.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel in Downtown Chetumal - I love this hotel however I would like them to do something about the scent of the rooms. It is a bit moldy in terms of the scent. I would rate it 5 but the scent take away on it.
- linda (6/5): - Tour package is not correct. i paid hight price but no according to book ( it rip off). tour person did take us according to the book. i want to get my money back. please do advertise to that tour any more.
- David (10/5): Great hotel and restaurant - Welcoming staff, good location, we plan to return when we have more time
- L (8/5): One night stay - Safe spot not far from the water taxi to Belize and in a good shopping/dining area.
- Rafael (10/5): Easter Vacation - Had a wonderful stay at the hotel, swimming pool was fantastic as my wife and daughter enjoyed same. Personnel were very friendly and attentive. This was my second time staying there and had a great time.
- Giorgio (10/5): Confortable and we'll equipped. - Great hotel and very inexpensive for all things it has to offer.
- Sergio (8/5): Wonderful experience - This hotel service exceeded my expectations. The staff was very friendly. The food was great. The room was nice and the check in and location of the hotel was easy and perfect for us to get around town.
