Guest Reviews
- Juan (10/5): Authentic experience - As frequent travelers who have lived in Argentina, the United States, and also spent four wonderful years living in Mexico, we can honestly say this was one of those rare hospitality experiences that truly stays with you.
What made this place so special was not only the beauty of the property or the excellent service, but the authentic way the hotel honors and celebrates Mexican culture. Having lived in Mexico ourselves, we know how meaningful it is to find places that genuinely respect and elevate the local traditions, people, and spirit—and this hotel does exactly that.
Every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcome, and the attention to detail throughout our stay was exceptional. The warmth, professionalism, and personalized care created an experience that felt much deeper than simply staying at a hotel—it felt like reconnecting with everything we love about Mexico.
We are incredibly grateful for this experience and truly hope to return soon. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something authentic, thoughtful, and unforgettable.
- Leonie (10/5): Jewel found! - It‘s such a beautiful jewel in Merida. The private atmosphere, the staff which knows so much about Merida / Yucatan, what to explore, where to eat, drink & what activities are most likely enjoyable tailor made to your itinerary. The room was amazing, very big with everything you need. Also the outside surroundings with the pool, the bar, etc. Very clean and spacious. The chef cooks an amazing breakfast, so fresh!! It‘s such a pleasant atmosphere, that makes us not wanna leave. Thank you SO much for everything.
Kein Standard, sondern einzigartig. Gar nichts. Alles hat die Erwartungen übertroffen.
- Sharine (10/5): HET MOOISTE BOUTIQUE HOTEL VAN YUCATAN - In 1 woord GEWELDIG!! Niets
- Katherine (10/5): Highly recommend! - Breakfast was excellent but what made the experience was the staff. They are terrific!!
- Theodoros (10/5): An absolutely fantastic stay! - An absolutely fantastic stay! The room was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable. The staff were exceptional: welcoming, attentive and genuinely helpful throughout. They shared great recommendations not only for Mérida but also for Mexico City and helped organise a brilliant trip to Chichén Itzá and the cenotes.
Also, they make some of the best margaritas :-)
- Theodore (10/5): - Being at this hotel was like visiting generous friends. The welcome was personal, friendly and very helpful explaining everything and asking if we would like anything beyond those. The room was large beautiful and functional. The free breakfasts were creative delicious and presented personally to each guest explaining all items. Nothing. It stood apart being beyond all previous hotel experiences.
- Vittoria (10/5): Perfetto!! -
- Roman (10/5): Außergewöhnlich in jeder Hinsicht!
- Martijn (10/5): The best - We saw the 5.0 star rating on Google with 200+ reviews. Could not be true right? But it is totally valid, it was amazing! Before check in we were added to a whatsapp group of the hotel, which we used during our stay, very smart and welcoming. On arrival we got a little tour of the hotel and a nice cocktail. The hotel has 5 (6?) rooms, a courtyard with a lot of green and a pool. All feels very quiet and relaxing. The rooms are big (the bed short, for a 6'+ guy, but that seems the standard in Mexico)
The staff is amazing, all of them. The owners very helpful and fun. It feels like home.
And every morning you are served an amazingly cooked breakfast, We never had a breakfast like that in a hotel. A freshly made set menu, every day just perfect.
- Rien (10/5): Verborgen pareltje in Merida. Absolute aanrader!
- Marc (9/5): extremely knowledgeable and worldly owners displays personal taste and love for their business - it was like having a private chef. top notch ingredients turned into explosion of flavors. chef and baker makes for a decadent combination.
- Donna Lilah (10/5): - Beautiful place, with attention to details! every one working at the Diplomat is wonderful and kind.
Breakfast is delicious and healthy, and service was impeccable.
I wish we could have stay longer, until the next time.
Donna & Moi
- Julia (10/5): The perfect stay in Merida - We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough! We had the most wonderful stay at the Diplomat. The service is truly impeccable - every single member of the team is so welcoming and attentive. The Diplomat is a little oasis of calm with a stunning poolside area. The rooms are wonderful and the team is amazing and will help with great recommendations and help make the most of your stay. I fell ill during my stay but honestly Sara and the team could not have been more wonderful and helped me get better. Don’t hesitate and just book! Nothing!!
- Fran (8/5): -
- mohamed (10/5): Pure pleasure - Pure pleasure! Service was tops.
Spacious room, very helpful, attentive staff, always happy to help. The best of the best, breakfasts! The food was expertly prepared with fresh ingredients and never the same. Hanging in a hammock, poolside with an espresso is exactly what I needed.
Referred me to Argel, a really good and knowledgeable private guide.
Suggeste and made restaurant reservations. A bit of a walk to the Central plaza
- Jean Pascal (10/5): It is so quiet, you really feel like being at home and the staff are wonderful. They gave us plenty of great recommendat - Beautiful place, amazing breakfast, charming staff
- GUILLERMO (10/5): Awesome !!
- koen (10/5): -
- Christina (10/5): -
- Elena (10/5): -
- Selen (9/5): Amazing staff and owner - Very friendly, kind and helpful staff and owner. They think of everything, if you say you go to beach they prepare you a bag of towels. If you go for a drive they give you water and cookies. When you arrive, they welcome you with snacks and margaritas. Also all of the staff speaks very good English which is rare in Mexico. The towels smells food, I think they keep them near kitchen
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Yesenia (10/5): Beyond excellent! - One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. My mother was very sick and the hotel owner reached out personally to her own family doctor and was able to have us order prescriptions for my mother’s symptoms and had her team send hot tea. I’ll never forget how attentive and caring the staff were.
10/10 service. I’ll definitely be back when returning to Merida!
- Olaf (10/5): Beautiful Boutique Hotel with superfriendly service - Great place, quiet and beautiful. Personell really friendly, outstanding breakfast. Location is little bit far from main attractions
- Juan (9/5): Excellent as always - Service is personal refined quiet and attentive
- Consuelo (10/5): An Oasis in the City - A beautiful jewel in Merida with the most amazing service.
The bar, the breakfast, the service, the details! I loved everything!
- Laquata (10/5): - You absolutely need to stay at this hotel. You will not regret it.
My wonderful experience started before I even checked in. The hotel owner, Sara, personally contacted me to offer a variety of options for my upcoming stay. Upon arrival, I was welcomed by her staff, given a tour of the hotel, and offered a welcome drink and snacks. It was the perfect introduction after a long flight.
The hotel is simply marvelous, with a well-thought-out design. My room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, featuring fresh flowers and plants that made the space feel luxurious, peaceful, and beautiful.
Beyond the beautiful surroundings, the hospitality is phenomenal. The breakfast is fantastic, and it's clear the chefs are passionate about their work. The staff is top-notch; my room was cleaned daily, and I was greeted with kind notes and cookies. They even offered great recommendations for local sights and restaurants.
They truly went above and beyond when they learned it was my birthday. To walk into my room and see all the beautiful decorations was a wonderful surprise. This hotel takes the time to get to know its guests and provide a personalized experience. It is without a doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed at.
Ogni spazio - Camera curata e pulitissima,
Ambiente esclusivo,
Personale attento e disponibile.
Attenzione ai dettagli.
- andy (10/5): One of the very best hotels you will ever stay in - One of the very best hotels I have ever stayed in. Welcoming, friendly staff, beautiful rooms and great facilities. Above and beyond are n every way. Nothing
- andy (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Kerry (10/5): Fantastic boutique Hotel, attentive staff, amazing breakfast, stunning pool, it’s a 10 + - Breakfasts were amazing. Lovely pool, honor bar, Staff is welcoming and extremely helpful. Room was beautiful and large. Welcome drink and snacks on arrival. It’s a bit out of the downtown area but Uber’s were never more than a minute away.
- Andreas (10/5): -
- Pradeep (10/5): Amazing service - fantastic staff, loved it - Well thought through - private while also being inclusive
Tranquil It was all excellent
- Messmacher (10/5): Simply wonderful! - Beautiful rooms and facilities. Welcoming and friendly staff. And amazing food.
- Jennifer (10/5): This hotel is reason enough to return to Merida - This place was amazing. The owner reached out days before we arrived and not only provided information and recommendations in Merida, but also in the town we were visiting just before traveling to Merida. From the moment we stepped out of our car, we were welcomed by staff and given a tour of the property and information about The Diplomat Hotel and the town of Merida. The food and drinks were fantastic and the poolside ambiance was so relaxing. I would go to Merida again just to stay at this hotel and eat the delicious breakfast. And to top it all off, I forgot something in the hotel and the owner went above and beyond to ensure its return to me. My husband and I have traveled a lot and we cannot stop talking about this hotel. Stay here. Trust me.
- Nespurek (10/5): The staff provided an excellent service and was very helpful in making our stay enjoyable and giving information about w - Great service, the staff was excellent. Everything designed to please and surprise the guest. Nice decorations. Calm and private atmosphere.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing experience all around!
- Ruby (9/5): Lovely Boutique Hotel - Loved the friendliness of the staff and their attention to detail, it really stood out. Everyone was so warm and helpful, which made us feel right at home from the start. The hotel itself is beautiful. It is quiet, charming, and full of character. Every corner feels thoughtfully cared for, and it’s the perfect place to unwind. A lovely bonus: they offer wonderful shampoo and conditioner made from local honey, which was such a nice touch and left my hair feeling amazing. It is a bit removed from restaurants which makes it challenging to get food at night if you choose to stay in as the hotel does not offer dinner options. We had massages one night and didn't want to go out after, Uber eats would have taken over an hour to arrive, pushing dinner back to almost 10pm. I should have kept this in mind, and planned our evening better.
- Amelie (10/5): Exceptional - My stay at this hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, every detail exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was a real highlight—delicious, varied, and beautifully presented each morning.
The rooms were incredibly stylish, spotless, and offered a peaceful retreat after a busy day. I was especially impressed by the quiet atmosphere and the thoughtful design touches throughout.
The staff truly made my stay unforgettable. They were unfailingly friendly and genuinely attentive, always ready with a great recommendation yet never intrusive. Upon my arrival, they had already made a dinner reservation for me at a wonderful local restaurant (with no obligation, of course), which was a delightful surprise and made me feel truly welcome.
All in all, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Every aspect was simply outstanding!
- Spears (10/5): Chef’s kiss! Wonderful! - Oh you will love this hotel!! I stayed in the room by the pool and what a great pool it is !!! Every morning I opened my bedroom door to enjoy the view. The owners put screen doors on the room so no bugs come inside and you can listen to the birds and water fountain.
I have never experienced such beautifully crafted breakfasts in my life. The chef is outstanding and brings something delicious and gorgeously displayed each morning.
The owners have consciously thought of all the right details to make your stay so enjoyable: soft bathrobes, bathroom amenities, large bottles of purified water replenished daily, fresh cookies and thoughtful notes each day. I could go on and on.
The staff is exceptional. So good at their jobs, always helpful and thoughtful. They gave me the best recs for restaurants nearby. The decor of the property is so tasteful and comfortable. Five stars all the way around!! Nothing not to like
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic hotel! Attentive staff with lots of thoughtful details. - Everything Nothing
- Shirley (9/5): Lovely little boutique hotel with a very personal touch - Breakfast was prepared with care and imagination. It was a great start to the day
- Adriana (10/5): Cozy Boutique Gem – Not a Resort, but Full of Heart and Comfort - The breakfast was one of the best we had in Mexico – fresh, varied, and prepared with great care. Although the hotel is small, it offers all the amenities you'd expect from a 5-star property.
The location is quiet and slightly outside the city center, but you can reach downtown in just five minutes by car or Uber.
The service was outstanding: they arranged restaurant reservations, private tours to local sights, and even provided us with tips and contacts for the rest of our trip across the Yucatán region. If you're looking for a large hotel complex with a full spa area, this might not be the right place for you. Although the pool is small, we really enjoyed cooling off there in the afternoons after our sightseeing adventures. The atmosphere feels like a mix between a boutique hotel and a charming B&B.
- Andres (10/5): The Essence of Mexico. - Everything was perfect. From the start to the end of our stay.
The place was beautiful and the room even better. Simple but decorated with finesse.
But the most amazing was the Team. Those Ladies are the heart of the place. So beautiful and genuine.
Their smile and spirit are worth the stay.
And of course the amazing food, prepared with Love by The Chef!
We would recommend The Diplomat to anyone that wants a little piece of Paradise!
Thank you Ladies for the memories!
Chicas se os va a extrañar !🥰 Nothing!
- Valerie (9/5): I look forward to the next time as it is just my idea of perfection - This was a return visit so I new how good the breakfast was, they excelled with home baked bread, eggs and delicious jams. Nothing
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ron (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful hidden gem. The rooms are exceptional as is the breakfast. Super kind staff!
- Adam (10/5): The amazing Diplomat Hotel team made our stay one to remember! We’ll definitely be back soon. - I think that the shear attention to every little details was what made this place very special. I think it’s important that it didn’t feel like they were trying to save money or cut in costs. Little details like the selection of daily free mescal shots that guests could help themselves to. There beautiful little shop area with a lovely selection of quality authentic artifacts from Mexico. The fact that there was always a member of staff available for anything you needed. And the list goes on. The rooms were stunningly finished and the outdoor spaces were carefully thought out. But the real highlight of our stay was the breakfasts. The in-house chef brought out and explained in detail the generous selection of home made breads, salsas, beans, eggs, sides, juices and local fruit. You were made to feel at home and cared for with love. Well done The Diplomat Team! When we’re back in Merida there will be no question about where we stay. See you soon! To be honest there wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. We did wonder if it would be a good idea to arrange a quick fumigation around the pool area as there were quite a few ants. But it’s a tropical country and as we live in the area too we understand that this is a constant battle. Nothing that made any difference to what turned out to be one of the very best places we’ve stayed in.
- Jannette (10/5): Excellent service and place. - Great service, clean and nice room, delicious food.
- Vitus (10/5): Perfect! - The staff and owner are so great. It‘s really one of a kind personal service.
- Alessandro (10/5): Worth the splurge! - A real boutique hotel! Everything is perfect. Our room was spacious, clean and with on point decor. The bed is enormous and very confortable. The common and pool areas are welcoming and surrounded by lush vegetation. The staff were helpful with tailored suggestions and the breakfast defies description! To leave!!
- Sean (10/5): A total gem in Merida Highly recommended - Lovely room, great facilities, delightful staff Nothing. It is perfect.
- Karina (10/5): The building! The breakfast! The staff! This is one of the most special hotel stays I've experienced - The building is gorgeous and the rooms are spacious and very well appointed. The amenities, facilities and breakfast all make this hotel stand out, as well as the very sweet and helpful staff. This is a little more outside the central area of the city and is a bit quiet, but we loved the invitation it gave us to take longer walks and always felt very safe.
- Ronald (10/5): - This is an incredible property -- the owners, the staff, the breakfasts, the suite -- a rich, comfortable experience -- like coming home each day. The attention to detail -- the stay -- upon arrival to departure -- cannot be fully described -- it must be experienced first hand. We will be back!!
- Anabel (10/5): A stylish oasis run by a fabulous team. - The Diplomat is a beautifully designed boutique hotel in a wonderfully relaxed setting. From the moment we stepped through the door we were so warmly welcomed by Sara, Eric and their team and loved every minute of our stay. The welcome margarita was the best of our 3 week stay in Mexico (we tried many!) and our enormous room, which opened onto the pool terrace was simply perfect. Sara organised massages in our room on our first evening and her restaurant suggestions were perfect. We had already booked a guide (Raul Gil +52 999 157 9312) who, by coincidence, turned out to be the guide that The Diplomat used. He was fantastic and took us for a great day out to the Celustan, followed by visits to an old Hacienda and Uxmal (in our opinion a way better experience than Chichen Itza). The delicious breakfasts at the hotel were different each day and it was a treat to have afternoon tea! My only minor negative is that the walk from the Diplomat into the centre of Merida isn’t particularly pleasant - narrow pavements and not terribly picturesque. That said, it was very easy to get Ubers.
- Jennifer (10/5): It was just great. Sara, Neil and team have created a really special place here to use as a base to explore the city. Th - The service, staff, owners and breakfasts were perfect. Such a wonderful welcome and the service they provide is fabulous. The distance outside of main town if walking on a hot day but fine on cloudy days and Ubers super easy to get.
- Nicholas (10/5): - The property is beautiful and the staff we met were amazing. Jete made us an incredibly delicious vegan breakfast. This is my favorite hotel ever.
- Aileen (10/5): This hotel is reason enough to visit Merida! - Exceptional service both before we arrived and during our stay with great recommendations for restaurants and trips out both in and and around the city. Excellent breakfast, the best margaritas of our two week trip, very friendly and welcoming staff, great laundry service. Nothing was too much trouble with little touches like a beach bag and towels for our trip to Celestun. Breakfast was a little late for us as we like to get out and about early.
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Fabulous stay - Fabulous stay. Staff were really friendly and helpful and breakfasts were amazing.
- Edward (10/5): Phenomenal Boutique Hotel - Great staff, amazing, on-site owners, attention to detail, delicious, fresh, made from scratch breakfast, excellent location.
- Kurtminnen (10/5): Wonderful - Staff is fantastic! Breakfast we had (2x) amazingly good, really. Nice soft bed. The water in tbe pool was freezing cold (completely normal this time.of the year 😉). TV system not easy.
- Iris (10/5): A splendid stay - I loved the feel of this boutique hotel and the decor of my suite, adding a touch of rustic elegance. The vegeterian breakfast was a spread of delights with a Mexican twist, with the sound of a pool waterfall as the perfect morning backdrop.
The owners, a friendly Australian couple, not only extended a personal welcome to each guest, but were on hand (via WhatsApp) to give tips and guidance on things to do (and avoid). All staff were fabulous, and I need to give Mel a shout-out who looked after me exceptionally well.
The hotel is a keeper and I may well go back to Merida just to stay here again. Not a "dislike" for me as I like to walk, the hotel is some 10-15 min from the city centre.
- Clint (10/5): Quiet luxury that treats you like family - What an amazing place to stay! The hotel is beautiful with a wonderful attention to detail. Everything is intentional and looks-and smells-stunning! But the staff and owners are even better than the hotel-and that is really saying something. We were contacted before we arrived asking if they would have snacks and margaritas ready for us when we arrived. They also asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I am gluten free and they kindly made everything gluten free for me!! To include snacks, breakfast and fresh cookies in our room each day! They also made us dinner reservations for every night and made sure they knew I was gluten free.
Now, to talk about my favorite part, other than the amazingly kind staff and owners. The breakfasts!!!! They were beyond delicious, and I am very picky. Each day was not only stunning to look at but some of the best food I have eaten in my life. I know their chef will have an amazing culinary career. The owners are so lucky to have found her!
A huge thank you to the absolutely amazing staff and owners! I have never felt better taken care of in my life and was greeted with so much kindness!!! I hope I can come back soon!!
*I’m terrible at taking pictures, so just know, they do not do the food or place justice Nothing. Everything was perfect.

- David (10/5): Perfect stay in every way in Mérida! Stay here! - It’s a really lovely space, calm and quiet. The staff are exceptional and the breakfasts, delicious and presented like a work of art. The owners were like having your private tour guides, they even booked us a restaurant down in Tulum for our next stop. Stay here!

- Sovan (10/5): Excellent and Amazing - The entire staff were friendly and amazing, they go above and beyond. They were very helpful with making recommendations and booking private tours all over Yucatán. We had the staff arrangement a few tours for us and the tour guide (Raul and Alfonzo) were very professional, friendly and shared a lot of information about the Mayan History and the Culture of Merida Yucatán. Our tour guided provided cold water and bug spray as well. Since our tour starts early in the morning, the staff made us breakfast to go that are very delicious with fruits and snacks along with towels for the Cenotes. The Boutique was very cleaned and well kept with great breakfast that are freshly made, served and explained along with freshly cut fruits and salsas. Big shout out to Elly (sorry misspelled your name), Melissa and the whole staff for our incredible time and experience in Merida. We highly recommended the Diplomat Boutique and will return to Merida, Yucatán soon.
- David (10/5): Our stay at the Diplomat Hotel in Merida was an unforgettable experience of luxury, impeccable servi - If you’re a traveler who doesn’t know where to stay in Merida, look no further than the Diplomat Hotel. Imagine staying in a place as luxurious as the Four Seasons but right in the heart of this vibrant city. From the moment you walk in, you’ll feel like royalty thanks to the amazing staff who are always ready to help with a smile.
Cleanliness? Spotless. Every room, every corner is meticulously maintained. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable and relaxed, knowing that everything is perfectly in place. The rooms are not just clean but also beautifully decorated, making you feel at home while still being a special treat.

Whether you like sweet or savory, light or hearty, there’s something to make every morning the best start to your day. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT
- Kirsten (10/5): Gracious oasis - Everything about this beautiful boutique hotel walks that fine line between style, comfort and graciousness. This is a rare treat that should not be missed. I only wish we had booked more nights. We will be back.
- Linda (10/5): Home is where the heart is. And for my one night stay - I felt home. - I am a budget traveler but needed one night of super comfort. This hotel pretty much gave me that. Stunning courtyard, soothing pool, spacious rooms, clean, nice bathroom and toiletries, very nice staff. For the location, the price was a tad high, but I still found it to be super nice.
- Newton (10/5): - Superb attention to detail and needs of the client. Great breakfast prepared by their chef. Very helpful in every way. Can’t wait to return again.
- Samantha (10/5): My daughter and I had an incredible time at The Diplomat!! - Everything! The place was immaculately clean, tastefully adorned and customer service was exceptional! Nothing
- Rosalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chelsea (10/5): The most special and magical oasis in Merida! - An absolute magical oasis - that’s the best way to describe the Diplomat. My fiancé and I spent two days at this hidden gem and it was truly the best way to end our trip. The property is stunning - the pool area, dining areas, honesty bar, the rooms - everything oozed architectural perfection with a harmonious blend between modernism, colonial influence, and traditional Mexican. We were delighted at the thoughtful touches - the welcome drinks, the hand written notes left each day in our room with home baked treats, the fresh lilies and palm leaves in the rooms. The owners Sara and Neil are incredible hosts and we appreciated their warm friendly energy, engaging conversation, and amazing recommendations for places to go/see/eat at. Their staff is absolutely wonderful as well - honestly 5 star customer service all around. The beds and pillows are EXTREMELY comfortable! As if that’s not enough, each morning you’re greeted with a freshly prepared breakfast (we had this included in our room price) that includes options like home made bread, muffins, salsas, hot sauces, jams, cheese, eggs, veggies, fruits etc. This hotel was so special we are hoping to return next year when we come back for our wedding or to have our guests experience the Diplomat for themselves! Thank you Sara and Neil! Absolutely nothing
- Frand (9/5): A delightful retreat on a hot day in Merida - We loved everything about the Diplomat. It’s a lovely peaceful environment and was a great place to arrive after hectic CDMX. The breakfasts were outstanding and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had an amazing trip to Uxmal with Raul organised by the hotel. I can’t think of anything they could improve except possibly offering lunch although I’m not sure you could manage lunch after the substantial breakfast.
- Brad (10/5): If I could give this lovely hotelita a 12/10, I would: - Everything about The Diplomat was special, from the thoughtful service and extremely friendly and competent staff to their phenomenal homemade breakfast.
- Edward (10/5): This 5 room “hotel” is more like an exquisite old school Bed and Breakfast with hospitality to match. High recommend. - Literally everything. There is nothing not to like.
- Christina (10/5): Fabulous hotel, a little gem in Merida - We loved this hotel. The staff were wonderful, the attention to detail, the ambiance, the lovely pool, delicious breakfast. The delicious cocktail and the information to help us settle in were very welcome. Nothing but a suggestion -we would have liked a fridge in the room to keep our water cool even though we could go to the bar and collect a cold bottle, it soon warmed up!
