- Somi Ramachary (8/5): - Hotel is in a convenient location, walking distance of around 200m, from Hulan road metro station. Staff were excellent, allowed us to check in early. Breakfast was good. Rooms could benefit from newer carpets. Kettle, coffee Tea were available in the room. Overall good experience
- Jack (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was very nice and comfortable beds. Tried to charge us for a an extra bed despite making the reservation for 5 people and then only providing 4 small beds. Also very far from the centre.

- Glisovoc (1/5): I would never stay in this hotel again - the location of the facility is ok, but everything else in the facility is not as I expected, bad internet, they said they have a smoking room but there is no such room, bad food. I don't think anything could be better, they don't speak any foreign language, communication is very difficult, they give wrong information

- Lee (4/5): The name of the hotel can not be what is in your mind - Nothing I like. The location is bad. Very far from everything. The room is like a motel room. The breakfast area looks like a student's cafeteria. No restaurant inside ......
- Ilia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Himachal (10/5): Exceptional - Good Good
- Kiersten (5/5): It was not what was expected or advertised. - The breakfast was good. They offered a variety of food and enough seating. The front desk ladies were nice. There were food options within walking distance. One of the main reasons I booked the hotel was because it said it had a shuttle from the Pudong Airport and had wifi. There was no shuttle available to us and when I tried to call to get help, I was hung up on three times before I was able to speak to someone. The wifi was also bad. One of our rooms smelled like smoke and the beds were extremely stiff. I was extremely dissatisfied with these factors.
- Rolly (4/5): The hotel staff need undergo professional training. The facilities need routine maintenances. - Hotel is in a quiet location, yet convenient to public transportation and commercial. I stayed 7 days in Holiday Inn, Shanghai Gongkang, from January 20-25 and 28-30. The breakfast was fine, but the service was weird. Workers with aprons were busy between kitchen and buffet tables while the hotel staff members who waring navy blue suits were running or chatting in groups in buffet area as if no one else around. In front of the noodle/wonton stall, a middle-aged male staff in navy blue suit was waiting for his wonton being cooked. A young female staff was taking small steps towards him cheerfully:”Oh, my uniform pants are too short. Pleas help me stretch them”. To my surprise, the male staff hesitated for a while and then bent down and did as asked. The female staff turned around 360 degrees swinging her buttock left and right, and complained:” Look, the waist does not fit either!”. Judging from the attitude of other staff towards the man, I believe he is a hotel official.
Next morning, the temperature was about -6 Celsius outside. I poured a bowl of soy milk and walk towards the kitchen entrance looking for a microwave. A staff who was busy with smartphone raised her head asking if I need help. I realized she was the short pants staff I had seen at breakfast. She took the bowl and went to the kitchen.I noticed her placing the bowl on the counter and continuing to play on her phone. I returned to the dining room and finished my breakfast slowly. She eventually showed up and walked past my table. I was completely ignored. I stopped her. She looked confused:”Yes, sir?”. “Is my soy milk heated?”. “Oh, I forgot. Wait a minute.” She went back to the kitchen. I asked one of the apron servers for the staff’s name. “She is our supervisor”, the server responded. I left without drinking soy milk.
The hotel staff need undergo professional training.
The hotel elevators require a room card to reach the room floor. The sensor of the central elevator malfunctioned and it took us and one of the staff member a while to get it working.

- Kin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Qin (8/5): Very good - Too warm in the room
- Ardianto (8/5): Very good -
- Chee (9/5): Superb -
- Catarina (7/5): Good - Bedroom was very big, nice shower and offer tea and coffee. The metro was around 50m from the hotel.
Just talking about breakfast, it has a lot of choises but only for Chinese people. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but it's not European breakfast. You have noodles, a lot a fries and vegetables but you don't have fruit at all. Almost no bread, no cereals and yogurts. Let's start with the reception. In booking says they speak English but it's not true. Speaking through a device translator its not speak English. Other thing about reception is that they are not helpful at all. People on the street are nicer then them. Even with this language barrier they help more them the reception of this hotel.
Other thing that made me very angry was the money exchange that in booking, again, they said they have that service but they don't have which made me go to a bank and spend there 3h just to exchange money. Unacceptable!
To finish, at check-out, we delivered the key to the girl and she simply said "ok ok" and wave her hand like "go away". Very very rude! Probably the worst reception I have deal with.
- Ali (9/5): Superb -
- Solomon (10/5): Exceptional -
- NORIAKI (6/5): - 冷蔵庫がほしい
- Miklušáková (7/5): Good -
- Khairul (10/5): Absolutely Amazing - The staff were helpful especially the one checking us in. Even though there is a language barrier but they have the pocket translator to help ease the process.
All staff were amazing, front desk, the coffee house, the cleaners were absolutely delightful.
A walking distance for places to eat (5 mins walk) Starbucks, neighborhood mall, a park, etc.
Breakfast buffet is great, local food consist of Congee, Noodles, Fried rice and some dim sum. We stayed for 6 nights and tried all! The location is quite a distance from the city butnot so bad. The train station is nearby. The nearest is Hulan Rd. station. Literally like few minutes walking distance to the hotel.
- Zen (8/5): Very good -
- Ting (6/5): Pleasant - It is difficult to keep property clean when it is outdated. We lived in a room has odorous carpet.
- Azl104 (8/5): Very good - Noiseless Small bed size and a little far from metro station

- Milkshake (7/5): Good - The location is good. A lot of stores around, banks and cafes.
The view from my window was sooo magnificent, I love looking at cars passing by.
The staff is very caring, very polite: they fixed the broken safe box.
There's always two fresh bottles of drinking water on a sink and new hygiene supplies.
Nice breakfasts, everything was fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, there's a mini list of the things I didn't like:
1. The very first moment I walked into the room after arriving, there was a light cigarette scent and the lights were on. Probably someone in nearby rooms was smoking, and the smell went through the ventilation to my room. This had happened for, I think, two days in a row.
2. Safe box. The door was open, but the latch was out, so i wasn't able to close it. Staff had to change my box to the one from another room. Not their fault, some visitors can be quite inattentive.
3. Bathroom door was TOO TIGHT, I couldn't close it. Rubber gasket on the edge of the door was too solid and hard. It's not that big of a deal, just annoyed me a little bit.
4. The sink plug also worked pretty badly. It got stuck at one point, I couldn't open it. I don't know, maybe I was just being stupid, but it's worth of mentioning.
5. No trashbags in the bins. I was in two Holiday Inns in Beijing, and they both had two separate bins for recyclable and residual waste in the room, they were marked differently; they also had bags inside of them. Usually only outside garbage bins don't have bags in them, but inside..? Who knows, maybe it's just a "saving environment" thing.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - THE HOTEL WAS ADVERTISED FIVE MINUTES WALK FROM MANY ATTRACTIONS. IT WAS ABOUT 30 MINUTES SUBWAY, METRO RIDE FROM THE ADVERTISED LOCATION. A BIG PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARRIVE LATE AT NIGHT!!!
- Juergen (10/5): Nice hotel - Nice hotel
- RowenaG8 (6/5): Wedding party overnight - We booked this hotel on the night before my sister's wedding so that the guests will come from one pick up point. The choices for breakfast were just right for the price: noodles, egg, breads, salads, drinks/coffee, cereal, hash brown, nuggets, and yogurt. The choices are quite similar to that of other Holiday Inn Express hotels. Checkin and checkout are quick. The points of inconvenience for this stay are the one keycard policy, the aircon, and the toiletries. The keycard was needed for the elevator so if someone will be left in the room, we must improvise and use another card for the power. You need to inform the front desk that you need aircon and not heater, which we only found out after one night. The liquid soap, shampoo, and conditioner come in containers locked to the bathroom, which have been used by previous occupants, so we asked for new ones. We also had to ask several times for toothbrush and toothpaste.
- greenbali (10/5): Western Comfort - This was the hotel at the end of Shanghai tour before going to Dysneyland Shanghai. I wish it was a longer stay as the hotel was very comfortable for non-Chinese speaking travelers.
Guest rooms are pretty small but we expected this size as it's a Holiday Inn Express. Rooms are well appointed and functional with plenty of English instructions.
Staff are mostly able to converse in basic English which is very important to us; they are also friendly.
To my pleasant surprise, ample breakfast selections on buffet were available (as generally breakfast selections are very limited with Holiday Inn Express hotels elsewhere). Food and drink quality were also very good which are important for western travelers.
Come down early for breakfast as their restaurant area is quite limited for the number of rooms/guests available.
We will gladly return when we are in Shanghai again in near future.
- Parkerilla (10/5): Suburban - This hotel is not for a typical tourist as it’s in the northern suburbs of Shanghai (Baoshan) but for those who have seen the sites of Shanghai and maybe transiting to a cruise ship this is an ideal location to relax in the suburbs for a day or two. Items of interest are the beautiful tree lined boulevards, the nature “Greenways” around the expressway and the local restaurants.
The hotel itself is very well appointed with large rooms (for the Express brand), wife corridors and a good Chinese style breakfast. The only real minor downside is the limited spoken english of the staff but this is manageable.
Should you wish to venture to the traditional tourist spot the rail is very close and taxis are freely available.
I make note of one restaurant within walking distance as the Shaxian Snacks noodle outlet on Sanquan Road, a close walking distance via Changbei Road which starts at the rear of the hotel. The staff don’t speak English but the menu also has pictures with English wording. The noodles here are hand made right in front of you and the pricing is approx $US2.50 for a bowl that a big man will struggle to finish.
A very good experience was had in staying at this hotel in the area.
- gvodbos (10/5): Modern, clean rooms - We were very happy with this modern hotel, clean, spacious rooms. Nice bathroom. Breakfast has sufficient choice, including good coffee. Breakfast could even be consumed outside on a terrace under the canopee.
Nearby there are a few restaurants, a german bakery shop and a few small supermarkets.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Spacious room with sofa. Bathroom is okay. Price was reasonable for a nice hotel.
However, wrong location on the map and we went to the wrong location at first. Near the metro, but the metro station is far from downtown area.
Room was a little hot, since you could not control the temperature of the Aircon. It was summer when we stayed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We are happy their room was very wide and has a kids area in breakfast kitchen.
- marjoh639 (8/5): clean, quiet and comfortable - We were travelling with a large group of 70, the check was excrutiatingly slow as each guest has to have photo taken and individual passport handover. Staff not particulary welcoming. Little English spoken. Make sure you get 2 room keys if 2 room guests as keycard needed to activate elevator. 2nd key recluctantly given for some odd reason.
Breakfast room very crowded with 2 large groups and individual guests, good coffee. with good weather outside eating area would be popular
- gert82 (6/5): Language barrier - We stayed here for 2 nights in August before boarding a cruise back to Sydney. The people working in the reception had very little English and was very difficult to get them to understand what we were saying. Not a very good experience for us at all.
- pickmeholiday (6/5): Cigarette smelling rooms - Stayed here for 2 days before I headed off on a cruise
Breakfast was average Catering for the Chinese
They introduced no smoking in their rooms in 2017
I honestly don`t think they have changed the curtains or carpets as the hallways and room smelt of stale cigarettes
The form of communication was with a smartphone
Staff did not speak English When I asked for information regarding wanting to go to the train station
- baltaruiz (8/5): GREAT LOCATION! - 上海共康智选假日酒店)
Located at Nanyunzao Road No. 9, Baoshan
Shanghai China
📍Coordinates: 31.336705, 121.437673
A five minute walk to the Hulan Road (呼兰路)🚊 subway station , part of Line #1, one of the main arteries of the Shanghai subway system. Also a “Family Mart” convenience store, a small super market and a couple of restaurants (No English there) half a block away.
👨💼The staff is very accommodating and like with any other places in China, ice cubes are not common, though the staff will procure some for you in a plastic bag if you ask.
🍳 The breakfast buffet is uneventful (Boiled eggs, salad, fried rice, steamed buns, oatmeal, chocolate cereal, orange juice, toast, lukewarm milk..), this seems to be a hotel more for business travelers than tourists.
- emster2029 (8/5): Good location 30min outside city centre - This is a typical Holiday Inn Express. The clientele is a mixture of foreign and local tourists. It's breakfast is Spartan but sufficient. It has a coin operated laundromat on the ground floor. Most important is that it is 300m from Hulan Metro station Exit 3. The train ride is about 30min from Peoples Square on Line . Within 100m there are restaurants and minimart. Good combination for price and accessibility. Will return here for my next trip
- Ginniefan5188 (6/5): I'd like to rate it four star, but the dead wifi is driving me crazy! - Stayed for one night and had a flight to catch the next day, tried online check in, but the in room wifi kept dropped after browsing two three pages, reboot again and again, wasted my whole night trying to get online, called the front desk, didn't really try to resolve my issue, just asked me to keep on trying.
Otherwise, this hotel, although far away from the main city center, is located in a quite nice local residential like area. With nearby restaurants and various shops, it's nice to walk among local people, very relax and peaceful.
Check in was a little confusing at first, the reception staffs couldn't recognize my one-time Taiwanese entry permit, which I didn't have any issue with my previous stays at other hotels in shanghai.
As a Spire member, there's no offer at first, but they upgraded me later to a suite room because somebody else canceled the reservation. Appreciated for the upgrade!
Room size is spacious, clean and tidy, it's holiday inn express brand, nothing fancy.
But I found one stand alone steamer in the closet which is a convenient addition for women.
Since wifi is a must for me when staying in hotel, I think I won't come here again, unless they improve their wifi strength.
- Eugene (6/5): - Services and facilities are good but they never turn the air conditioner on due the outside temp was around 25 degrees C, The room was that hot that we had to open the window to sleep a little.
- Mike (10/5): 5 mins to metro station, 20 mins to downtown - This hotel is located outside the downtown district, u need to take metro for 20 mins and get to downtown. Well it is an Holiday Inn Express, so they have some basic breakfast for free. The price is cheap, why not give it a try?
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms maximum have a double bed. If you need a King size bed or two queen size beds, forget about that. They DO NOT have that. We had to purchase two rooms to accommodate 3 people, as one bedroom only had one double bed which could only accommodate two people, which at the end costed double to me. By having two double beds would have avoided me from getting a separate room.
Breakfast is good. It is all steamed food. Nothing fattening at all. Reception doesn't know how to speak English at all, so having a translator or a translation app REALLY HELPS!!!
Local area there is nothing close by within walking distance. You have to take a cab to go anywhere from the Hotel, which is a nuisance. Plus, for any Indians out there, a lot of restaurants do NOT even deliver to this Hotel as it is far away from the city.
- chanakya (8/5): Not a bad stay for a reasonable price! - Came from Canada for a day 4 day stay. Really liked the bedroom layout and cleanliness, yet they could only accommodate 1 queen bed or two twin beds. Since we were 3 people, I ended up getting two bedrooms with 1 queen bed in each room. The breakfast is healthy, not the traditional bacon and eggs (American food), but had bowled eggs, sausages, ham, pork, noodles, fruits, bread, jam, butter, milk, and cereals.
- zuluwarriors1879 (8/5): Good experience - Stayed in the hotel for 4 nights with a group of students. My room was a little small but had all the necessary amenities. The bathroom had a unique door which served as a door for the bathroom but could also act as the door for the wet area. I was pleased to find a clothing steamer in the room and a multiple port USB charger in the room. The hotel was located in a quiet area; a little further away are shops and dining options.
- ken (10/5): Convenience. - Staff speaks good english and knowledgeable to give advise to our transportation and nearby restauant and shopping places.
- rudak0vaa (8/5): Nice hotel surrondings - Rooms are standard. Neither too small, nor big. Enough to spend a night at. Quite. Clean. Did not like the reception staff level of english and overall work. Not too friendly)
Breakfast is a combination of Chinese and European kitchen.
- amanlam (4/5): Unkind response @ reception counter, & Heavy Smoke Smell - Every request I raised @ reception counter, only 1 word answer: "NO"
Heavy Smoke Smell along corridor and room, even the hotel is "Non-Smoking" hotel as stated
By the way, the hotel is tidy and clean.
Walking distance to MTR station is within 5 mins, but fair away from shanghai downtown
- valeriansan (10/5): Nice and Pleasant - This hotel is good for traveler with gadget, There's a multiple phone charger (Anker brand that sold in Banggood), a bathroom with access for wheelchair user, sattelite tv with international channel (not like other hotel), specific type of pillow, comfy bed, and last but not least computer for guests
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - Hotel is close to public transportation. Free breakfast is excellent. Chef on duty to cook your noodle to your liking. Apple at the front is very helpful and courteous. Will definitely stay in this hotel next time in Shanghai.
- charlyn_bull (8/5): Clean Hotel - Stayed for two nights. It was clean, bed and pillows are soft and comfy. Hotel staff are helpful and nice. Few minute walk to MRT.
Not so proud with breakfast food.
No bidet. Not a fan with the toilet door.
Hotel is far from the main tourist sites.
- kinonline2 (8/5): it is nice hotel - i just stay at this hotel on 11jan for 2 nights, overall, it is nice.
within walking distance, there are restaurant, supermarket, bank etc.
and this hotel, is located midway between two metro station, it is about 10 mins-15mins easy walk, along the main road, there are shopping center, i think is 3 big size mall. one of them, house carrefour.
but remember, insist do not pick the room facing the highway, is noisy even with the window fully close.
overall, i will stay at this hotel again
- chandrairawan2019 (6/5): a little bit suburb hotel - Staying here like not going overseas. I still can hear a lot of Indonesian stay at this hotel. Maybe the hotel has a good connection with travel agent, which is good.
Breakfast as 4star hotel, not too many variation when I stay there from 29-31 Dec 2016 and 1 Jan-2Jan 2017, we have to accept as it is. Learning that you have some Indonesian stay, why dont the hotel start providing Indonesian food. Rice, we have rice.. surprisingly, here we do not have rice.
during I stay, the heater from air cond wont work, I still can feel the cold and I have to called asking for portable heater, which surprisingly, you have one to use.
For a 4star hotel in IHG management, I found my towel was worn out and torn badly. I do not understand why the hotel still use the towel.
The rest are great.
If you asked me whether I want to go back, I will say that, I would rather stay in the hotel in the real city, big city like Shanghai
Thank you
- BenedictL97 (10/5): Pleasant & Enjoyable Stay - Stayed there for 4 nights on a school trip. Twin sharing rooms were really clean and comfortable. Room was large such that 9 people could comfortably gather in the room. Breakfast served was average, but hotel staff were friendly. Free wifi with a strong connection was provided throughout the hotel.
Location was near a FamilyMart Convenience Store and a Starbucks. Several local eateries and street stalls could be found a short walk away. Walking distance (5 minutes) to the MRT station, but about a 40 minute train ride to the Nanjing Road shopping district.
Overall a really pleasant stay.
- O358NWdans (10/5): Good value - Good value for money. Expected value as always I have booked this kind of hotel. I could say there is the same as everywhere, quite better than other locations in Europe.
Everything was ok and price almost valuable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hot and humid in the room - Not enough air conditioning (they said it's centralised a.c., nothing they can do...)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent hotel, reasonable price - The hotel is quite far way from the city centre though it is well connected by the metro. For the price I paid, I think this is a good hotel.
- lucy (10/5): Rude attitude - Super value for the price you pay, worth every dollar including the breakfast! Only thing need to be improved is the attitude of the person (chinese ) , it's not the language but it's the attitude, needs more training in refinement. Not at all friendly, a little bit discourteous. When we were asking what is the password for the wifi, and she was still busy checking us in, she answered "wait".. That's unacceptable language in the hotel industry, especially one like Holiday Inn Express.. Attention! Management, Please train her more !
- shang (10/5): Will come back again - Overall, it's a very nice hotel. American hotels, including Holiday Inn Express, is often one notch better than those in the US.
Checkin:
We had a little problem with the check-in process. It could be Expedia's fault or the hotel's fault. But the staff sent us to the room first and sort it out.
Non-smoking rooms:
In Shanghai (as of 1/2016), smoking is allowed in hotels. This hotels offers non-smoking rooms, which are truly non-smoking rooms.
Room:
The room is excellent in all aspects, except the softness of the beds. It's too hard per American standard, but just right for Chinese.
Breakfast:
Superb per American standard - average per Chinese standard.
Location:
It is less than 5 minutes walk from subway line 1. About 1 hour of subway ride from the center of Shanghai. Just a couple stops from Shanghai Circus World.
The area is pretty quiet. As "remote" as it is, it's got many excellent Chinese restaurants. Chinese use "dianping" for finding restaurants reviews. With it, we visited three of them, and all were excellent. Note: most restaurants in Shanghai allow smoking.
P.S. We found a fruit stand near the hotel too. An Asian pear called "Huang Guan Li" was surprising good, better than all Asian pears I had before.
- Eileen M (6/5): Not recommended - Little or no English was spoken so communication was difficult. No assistance to arrange tours or even information on what might be available. Breakfast was good. Evening meal was dreadful and not what was advertised. When I complained they laughed and thought it was funny. Although the metro is just a couple of minutes walk it really is too far out of town. Moved to a down town hotel which was a hundred times better and no more expensive
- William (8/5): Just a getaway - good place if you just wanna getaway from it all.
- Cliff Tomb (8/5): Please Credit Missing Night - As per other message, Hotel failed to reimburse due to lost wallet and I was forced to stay first night at another closer airport to the hotel.
