Guest Reviews
- Scott (10/5): - Great Place. Had everything I needed.
- Neil (8/5): Overnight in oxford - Room was just fine, basic, but just what we wanted for overnight. Its a short walk into the city centre, so great location. Parking might have been tricky, but we used Just Park for 2 full days at a hotel just down the road and it cost £12. Breakfast was not available, but plenty of great places in Oxford, so no problem there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No communication, room late, no breakfast which said was included. Room was fine but bits broken off bed, lights didnt work and no friendly welcome when arrived. Cheap rooms but will not be staying again
- Verified traveler (4/5): Fine if you sacrifice cleanliness for location - Location was great, very short walk into Oxford centre. Parking info wasn't great, most of the nearby area is permit holders only, would have used park and ride if we'd have known. Cleanliness very poor. General upkeep was also very poor, outdated decor, en-suite was in desperate need for some maintenance. Check-in poor, we were called earlier in the day to confirm the time of our arrival but still had to wait around for an hour once we arrived.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Eerie and dark in the evening - Arrived in the evening, the place was located at a rather dark section of the street. Signage was badly lit and not immediately noticable. Front porch was dark, first impression of the place was really eerie
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything you would hope to find was here - well worth paying for the excellent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were considerate, friendly and helpful; the location is excellent and there was a full breakfast (including vegetarian); Oxford is expensive but White House View was very good value.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For the price, this room worked out fine. I had a heavy bag to get up to the third floor, and kept a window open/fan on - there isn't AC. On the other hand, it was quiet, a quick walk to city center, and clean.
- Maureen (6/5): Good location for exploring - Horrendous bouncy bed couldn’t sleep. No bedside table so nowhere to put cup of tea or watch etc but lovely breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was in a very convenient location to walk everywhere. The room was very small but workable.
- Richard (8/5): Oxford is so expensive. - It was ok, its a tiny room but I was working late and getting up early so all I needed was a bed. But I am 5'7 and my feet hung out the bed. A+ for Hobbits -B for me. Still it was 64£ I'm happy.
- Sheq (6/5): - Small room on top floor, clean bathroom. Wonderfully located in Oxford. Handy for the river cruise. The bed is very hard is major downside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Brilliant location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Alan (6/5): - the room was very small
- Andrew (6/5): White House - Guest House is quite nice, but room was very disappointing(room 2)! Very small, bedside light didn't work, quite a walk to the shower/toilet. Also, I paid in cash as they requested, but there was no communication, and the owner was quite rude, telling me "not to move", until he had confirmed that I had paid. I offered to pay upon arrival, but they were keen to get cash instead of card! Also, the booking said that they had wifi, but they don't!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It's fine if you're in Oxford for a short stay.
I noticed some cleanliness issues with the provided glass and mug.
There was rust on the towel railings.
The shower's hot water is low pressure, or at least it was in my top-floor room.
I could hear other guests quite audibly during the late evening.
Sound dampening could be an option.
A hot breakfast cost £7. It may be better getting something at one of the nearby cafes if you want better value for money.
- Stephen (6/5): Basic but we'll located. - Very basic and tiny room but great location for walking into Oxford, which is difficult to find.
Reasonable price in comparison to other places on offer
- Verified traveler (2/5): Stay Away - Found bed bugs on my last night. Sheets were dirty when we first arrived. Room was very cold and the heat wasn't turned on. Parking was 10 minutes away. The location is good, but does not make up for the bad things.
- A (6/5): - Okay room within walking distance to Oxford.
I had some issues with checking in and ended up at the pub down the road trying to contact the owner to be let in. Fine for a single night accomodation.
- Hong (10/5): - Dining area is nicely decorated. Homemade breakfast is enjoyable. Pleasant stay.
- Victoria (8/5): - Great location. Friendly staff. Clean. Would stay there again.
- Jennie (10/5): Great location within walking distance to the town - We arrived before checkin time and they were kind enough to allow us to put our luggage in iur room so that we could go explore the city. Everything was clean and very nice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good value hotel - 15 minute walk to Oxford City Centre with direct bus a few metres away. Reasonable breakfast
- Lisa (4/5): - Hotel is far from City Centre. Mattress was broken down. Staff nowhere around. Window did not lock on first floor.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The booking had not been processed and I had to be placed in another B&B. Please review and refund my costs.
- Patti (6/5): More Care Needed - The bathroom shower was in need of maintenance. The hand held shower head could not be locked into position. It was broken. The on/off handle fell apart. The TV remote batteries were dead. They were stingy with toilet paper and coffee/tea.
The staff member who was in charge during our stay was very friendly and professional. The breakfast area was well decorated and clean, and the breakfasts were nicely prepared.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - My room wasn't very clean, and the bed was quite uncomfortable: dirty baseboards, marks on walls, smeary tv screen, linty carpet; hard mattress with flat, rock-like pillows. The owners were very friendly, however, and breakfast was delicious.
- K (8/5): Good location, homey - Great choice for visiting Oxford - walkable to the main sights. Be sure to contact the place in advance to arrange check-in!!! The staff are not always on site, so you if you arrive early you can't just show up and drop off your bags to store them (though they do leave contact numbers posted on the door).
- Jeri (10/5): White House B&B in Oxord - The location was good - just off a main drag, easy to find after a day of exploring. The B&B itself was nice, clean, friendly people. Nothing fancy, but good value. My room had its own bath, which was really small, but more than adequate - corner shower, small sink, but it was fine. Bedroom window opened onto the backyard, which, for me, was a joy. I stayed up late to watch the sun go down on all the buildings.
- Yung (8/5): Nice affordable Hostel near Oxford center - Within walking distance (10 min) from the center of Oxford in a quiet residential neighbourhood.
- Kathy (8/5): Clean and comfortable - White House View is comfortable, warm and good value for money. The staff are accommodating. I suggest letting them know when you arrive because even though the website said reception is open from 8am to 8pm, when I arrived, at 6pm, there was no one there and it took me a while to organise entry after calling the numbers listed on the door.
- Carl (4/5): Not the best stay Ive had.... - I was due to stay 3 nights, but after one night was ready to leave. There were builders in the house drilling and hammering, the room was dusty, and I asked then to hoover it which they did. The radiator started spewing out water and i had to call for help! The bed wasn't very comfortable and when the noise started again at 8.30am I was ready to leave. When I complained to the owners they did listen and offered me a room in another property (the ridings). I agreed and a friendly member of staff drove me there and the other two days were thankfully much quieter. This room was also much better with a comfortable bed, the only downside being that is was 10 mins further from the centre. Had I not been moved, I would have given 1 star, but as things were resolved in the end I think they genuinely regretted the incident. But it still doesn't excuse the fact that the house was full of builders and they had paying guests.
- John (4/5): Not good!! - Won't be going back. Found the guest house to be in need of a good overhaul and a good clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good experience, especially for the price. - Our initial reaction on arriving at the White House View Guest House was negative. But as we experienced it over the next couple days, we came to appreciate the fact that it was far enough outside Oxford to have a lower price but close enough that we could easily walk to the sites we wanted to visit, all of the mechanicals (i.e. shower, lights, hairdryer) worked very well, and the owner was very responsive to any requests we made. Also, the public bus stop is only about a block away and the service is frequent and efficient. We did not get breakfast at the Hotel but other guests indicated that they were very pleased with it. We would go back.
- Marianne (2/5): Expedia should not have this accommodation listed. - Terrible condition in All aspects- The owner is not even available on site with the phone number posted on the door. But, we are from USA and had no phone to make a call. The room and reception area doesn't even have any phones.
The facility needs significant upgrades-the pictures on the Expedia website are absolutely fake.
- Philip (10/5): Bright, claen guest house near city centre - Good location on quiet street of Abingdon Road. Easy walk to town centre. Room clean and well decorated. Good breakfast in pleasant room. Service and welcome all good. Parking available nearby.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible experience in oxfotd - Horrible. Unwelcoming, icky floors, walls. No amenities. Stingy only one towel. Owners very inrasant.
Main door has a weird lock system and the door knob FALLS
OFF! Frequently.
Do not choose.
- Scott (8/5): Reasonable budget accommodation in Oxford. - The staff at the hotel were all very pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast was also good. The bed in the room wasn't the best (it wasn't terrible, just not the best) and the sliding door to my shower was a bit wonky, but the place was clean and reasonably priced. It's also located fairly close to Oxford's town center.
- letap (8/5): Great staff - This is a clean, pleasant lodgings. Very small rooms and not fancy but the staff is vet helpful and they will cook whatever you want for breakfast. No complaints
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very average - Beds were not very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly Staff - I lost my way, called the hotel for direction and was entertained well. Paid for 5 pound for breakfast and it was hot and fresh prepared for us. The guesthouse setting is cosy and you feel like home.
- Julio (10/5): One night in Oxford - Great experience. Thw location was a 10 minute walk to the heart of Oxford and very safe. The owners of the Inn were very hospitable and their breakfast was abundant and yummy.
- DANIEL (8/5): - A little awkward checking in, but the room was good shape and it was a comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Guesthouse- exactly as you would expect - Not fancy but functional. Everything worked as advertised and agreed. Walking distance from Oxford center. Great for the open days at the university.
- SM (2/5): Awful, rip off. - Arrived at 7.30pm. Check in desk supposedly open until 8pm, no-one there, called the number on the front door and was given an access code over the phone - extremely impersonal! Asked for advice on parking and was told to leave my car just outside but move first thing in the morning at 8am and that the owners son would be able to help then (no opportunity for a lie in then).
The internet did not work for the entire time I was there, despite it being advertised as 'free wifi', I don't think the router was strong enough to reach the top bedroom.... for me this is an absolute basic! Had to contact the owner by text who didn't quite grasp the problem (when he eventually replied via text); in fact I am still waiting for a reply to my latest message (I checked out yesterday)
The room was small, pokey and dingy. The walls were all scuffed and there looked like water and electrical wiring damage in the bedroom. The sinks do not drain and the room has peculiar smells from damp to a spice box....
It was a complete rip off and I would never recommend this place!
- Verified traveler (8/5): ideal overnight stop. - Comfy beds, great for a short stay, owners very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good too - not your usual bland 'catering sausage' or tinned mushrooms. Short walk into the main city centre. Wifi a bonus.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not far from central Oxford, small guest house wim - We had to wait for at least 45 minutes to get into the house even though it was during the stated check in time. We were finally let in by a boarder who was leaving. Eventually we were able to contact the owners but I borrowed the boarders phone to call. They assume you have a working phone which we did not have...
Once the owners showed up they were very nice and friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - Pleasant one-night stay. Friendly greeting and good introduction to the facilities. Room was a good size, light, comfortable and clean. Bathroom was a reasonable size and generally clean; however, the shower needed some attention - the doors didn't slide easily and had to be grappled with, it needed the attention of some mould remover and the shower itself started off warm but soon gradually turned cool. Breakfast was good but seating was around two larger tables - I arrived early and had my breakfast alone but later on the tables were pretty full, so I'm not sure if I'd have been pitched onto a group table if I had arrived later or not. This wouldn't have been an issue for me but may not be what everyone would want, especially if they're not morning people. Location is very good - a 10-minute walk into the city centre. Before I arrived, I phoned to ask about parking and was told that free parking was available from 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. When I arrived, however, I was informed that I needed to park at the side of a public road about 300 yards away, out of sight of the hotel - again, this may not be what everyone would want to do. Overall, a pleasant place to stay and good value for money for Oxford.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Budge stay in Oxford - On the whole we were quite satisfied. On arrival early afternoon, we found the door to the guest house locked and had to call a mobile number. The chap in charge came a short while later and apologised. It would have been an unsettling experience if the guests did not speak or understand English or did not have access to a mobile phone.
The single rooms we were given were small but. comfortable and met our needs. There were visible signs of wear and tear but generally the rooms were clean. We liked the breakfast and the service was friendly and polite. On the whole a pleasant stay at a very reasonable price.
- Janet (8/5): Just a day in the travels - It was a perfect place, just a little small. Very good cooked breakfast
