Guest Reviews
- John (8/5): Economical, quaint, congenial and conveniently located from Killington at an excellent point - Wonderful breakfast, carefully made to order. The narrow, windy staircase can be a challenge, I suggest using a backpack to negotiate them rather than a carry-on bag.
- Fumin (10/5): - Delicious Vermont style breakfast! Mike and Barbara are very nice. None
- Timothy (9/5): Charming, affordable place to stay near Killington - The location is excellent, very close to Killington. It's tucked away in a pretty valley with hills all around. The place is beautiful with windows surrounding the dining area. The bed was very comfortable and the place is quiet. The breakfasts were exceptional. There is a shared bathroom. If all three rooms upstairs are booked you may have to take turns using it. That wasn't an issue for me because the middle of the week wasn't very busy.
- Rachelle (10/5): - Absolutely loved staying here !! Amazing location and the couple hosting is the sweetest ! Thank you
- Melissa (10/5): Great winter retreat - Wonderful hosts! Delicious homemade prepared breakfast! Very comfortable bed! Beautiful location
- Emily (10/5): 10/10 exceeds my expectations. We will be returning! - Mike and Barbara were very welcoming and the most wholesome precious couple you’ve ever met. They prepared the room all nice and warm. Everything was clean and cozy. It was a very calm and quiet atmosphere. Mike cooked us breakfast every morning and talked to us even though we were shy! The house itself is gorgeous. A lot of character and personality. Beautiful scenery. I wish we booked for more days. Mike and Barbara made us feel so at home that we wish we had stayed longer.
- Kevin (9/5): -
- Holly (9/5): Beautiful place. Welcoming host. -
- Tom (10/5): Great hosts, food and a great night's sleep. - Excellent hospitality. The location is a bit of the normal path, but not a problem. just make sure you have 4WD or AWD.
The breakfast was great. The hosts were not familiar with my little know allergy but bent over backwards to accommodate. Nothing really. It was an excellent stay.
- Pheng (10/5): Great view right next to the mountain - Breakfast. The view when you wake up is also very nice especially right before you hit the mountain which is only 10minutes away!
- Alexander (10/5): Convenient, good price, wonderful homeowners. -
- Melanie (9/5): -
- smith (10/5): Cute comfy, welcoming and perfect for our ski trips! - The retreat is in a great natural location, The host was super welcoming and helpful and he made an amazing french toast breakfast! Great room w comfy bed. it was great, no complaints
- Gaba (10/5): Great stay, very welcoming guests, 100% recommend. - Mike and Barb were so welcoming and made the stay so enjoyable. Mike cooked us a delicious breakfast in the morning with french toast, sausage, eggs, tea, and juice. The room was very cozy and had everything we needed. And they walked us through everything when we arrived and the bed was comfortable. We really enjoyed our night here and we 100% recommend.
- Arkaprabha (8/5): Mike and Barbara are excellent hosts. Would love to revisit - Freshly prepared breakfast and Mike was open to suggestions as well.
- Yury (10/5): Felt like staying with family! - Imagine staying and reconnecting with your great uncle who is very kind and thoughtful and on top if that is a very competent breakfast cook and loves to talk on a variety of topics keeping you company during a meal.
- William (10/5): Mike is a great host - Quiet A little far from mtn
- Mary (1/5): Avoid - Nothing It was not clean it was a very small room. Shared bathroom. The room was not clean and very small and dated The host was very angry and very strange. It was not as described at all. It was a mistake to book
- MICHELA (9/5): -
- Don (8/5): - We stayed in an adorable tiny room tucked under the eves. It was peaceful and quiet. Mike fixed us a wonderful breakfast. Our bed was a little lumpy.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Mary (8/5): -
- Cathy (10/5): - Location was great and Mike was a fantastic host. Our breakfast was yummy and he gave us quite a few choices too! Only comments I would like to put in are 1.narrow staircase to get upstairs so a little hard for us with the luggage. 2. Shared bathroom
- Zhabinskaya (10/5): -
- Melanie (10/5): - This cozy and remote bed & breakfast was more than just a stay––it was true hospitality! Barb and Mike have created a beautiful home away from home for their guests, and they could not have been more welcoming. Mike made a delicious breakfast and was a delight to sit and chat with. If you are looking for a place off the beaten path that feels more like staying with family than staying in an anonymous hotel suite, this is the place for you!
- Hugh (10/5): An excellent stay with wonderful friendly hosts capped off with a glorious breakfast! - Mike was a fascinating host, with great conversations over breakfast. His breakfast was superb sitting in the alcove overlooking the hills. Property was delightful with space and views. Room was comfortable and cosy Only downside was steep stairs up to room!
- Clara (10/5): Wonderful remote little retreat that makes you feel like you’re staying with family. - Sweet couple owning a B&B!
Feels like staying with family :) //
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Absolutely lovely stay!
- Santiago (10/5): Cozy home, warm hosts, and the perfect spot to recharge in the Green Mountains - As the name suggests, this truly is a Valley Retreat — a little haven in Vermont nestled in a quiet valley of the Green Mountains, surrounded by lush greenery, wildlife, and a wonderful sense of peace.
Mike and Barbara were exceptional hosts. From the warm welcome to the thoughtful touches in the bathroom and around the house, everything reflected their care and kindness. They were friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay feel special.
The house itself is cozy, inviting, and full of charm. We enjoyed a restful night’s sleep — the setting is incredibly calm and quiet, tucked right in the middle of the woods. Breakfast the next morning was a delight, served early so we could continue our journey refreshed and ready.
What impressed us most was their thoughtfulness: when we accidentally left behind a toothbrush, they not only let us know right away but even coordinated to return it. That extra effort really speaks to their dedication as hosts.
Thank you, Mike and Barbara, for sharing your beautiful retreat and a piece of Vermont’s magic with us. We left feeling recharged, grateful, and eager to return! Everything was to our liking.
- J (8/5): It was a beautiful area but I did feel uncomfortable at times as a solo traveling woman. - It was in a very beautiful area. As a woman traveling solo, I wouldn’t recommend staying here for safety reasons. The lock on my door could have been better ( push lock that didn’t stick). There is a shared bathroom which I knew, but in hindsight was probably not the safest move as a solo traveling man was in the room adjacent. I didn’t run into him at all but just something to consider if you are a woman traveling solo.
The check in and out process was easy enough but you are in someone’s home;something to be aware of. I’d recommend this place for couples perhaps.
- Bruce (9/5): Beautiful quiet setting - Beautiful quiet setting. Very congenial host. Excellent breakfast. Friendly dog.
- Chris (10/5): -
- PASCALE (10/5): Un petit coin de paradis . - L’accueil, la gentillesse de nos hôtes, la localisation, la maison . Rien , tout était parfait .
- Kernewek (9/5): - Mike the owner was a wonderful character. Our breakfast was delicious. The setting was really peaceful and there is an excellent loop walk of about 5km from the property via waterfalls to a lake.
- Rastislav (10/5): Great experience at really peaceful location! - Guest and location. Very friendly hosts, great peaceful location in the middle of nature, very comfortable. And very good breakfast as well. So I highly recommend! Everything was great!
- Jean (8/5): Cozy home in the country - The breakfast was great and catered to our food likes. Mike and Barbara were great hosts, and Mike went out of his way to make us happy and fulfill any needs. Their property in the country was so pretty and secluded. Just sorry we didn't have enough time to walk around and go down the street to see the waterfall, and swim in the pools/pond. The stairs are a little tough, going to the bedroom, but do able.
- Philip (8/5): -
- Lexi (10/5): Beautiful location & kind hosts - Mike and Margaret were so kind and accommodating - their home is located in SUCH a beautiful space, and we were treated to a wonderful breakfast and conversation in the morning. We felt free to come and go, and enjoyed enthusiastic recommendations from Mike, including an exciting "scrabble" up Thundering Brook trail and a glorious swim spot at Kent Pond. Thank you again for everything!
- Jessica (10/5): - Great experience. Very accommodating! Room was great! Everything was clean and homemade breakfast was amazing. Thanks
- Morgan (10/5): Peaceful, beautiful, and the best breakfast we’ve ever had—an unforgettable stay. - This bed and breakfast is a true hidden gem. The hosts—an incredibly sweet older couple—were welcoming without hovering, and made us feel right at home the moment we arrived. The grounds are stunning, with beautiful views and a sense of quiet that’s hard to come by. And the breakfast? Absolutely to die for. Fresh, homemade, and served with care—honestly one of the best we’ve ever had. It was the perfect balance of comfort, charm, and calm. We left full, happy, and already nostalgic.
- david (8/5): - should declare it has VERY steep stairs not good for children or anyone who has stair issues. And a single bath vs 3 rooms can be uncoimfortable
- Bev (10/5): Lovely hosts with a breakfast that will knock your socks off. - Beautiful countryside. Less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail. With a quick walk to the falls.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Beautiful scenery. Accommodating hosts, helpful to move my luggage up and down staircase, even putting into my car when I departed. Excellent made to order breakfast, multiple decaf coffee refills, even preparing a to go coffee in my travel cup. I would definitely stay again when visiting this region. A gem.
- Minju (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (10/5): - Convenient location, lovely room, and wonderful breakfast prepared by Mike. Mike and Barbara were very welcoming and it was very quiet. Their little dog Buddy was very cute, too!
- Elise (10/5): - This place is a refuge -- location, facility and hosts!
- Jennifer (10/5): - We very much enjoyed our stay. The room was delightfully cozy with it's own heating/cooling, a smart tv and overlooked the stream, which could be heard from the bed. Breakfast was wonderful and the hosts were very accomodating to our dietary needs and early schedule.
- Peter (10/5): A Vermont Gem - It was great stay with knowledgeable and friendly hosts.
Made us feel right at home.
Location which is set in a beautiful Vermont valley near the Appalachian Trail and Killington ski resort.
Check out Thunder Falls - walking distance.
- JAMES (10/5): - Very pleasant couple
- Bernardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (10/5): Best blueberry pancakes, wonderful hosts. - This was a genuinely wonderful experience. It’s almost like a B&B, super homely and full of character. Super comfortable bed, gorgeous view from the spring room. Mike and Barbara were amazing hosts and Mike made us a delicious breakfast in the morning at whatever time we wanted- best blueberry pancakes I have ever had. He was super accommodating and just a lovely lovely man. I would LOVE to stay there again, thanks so much Mike and Barbara!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Place is away from hotels and restaurant strip. Very relaxing place, excellent breakfast. Will go back.
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Guillaume (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - The inn offers only two rooms and sits on 16 acres. I can only imagine what it's like in the fall. It's nothing fancy, and if you're looking for all the amenities, you should look someplace else. But for me, the experience was wonderful. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The innkeepers were very welcoming. One highlight of my one-night stay was breakfast. Mike offered eggs, French toast, bacon, oj, and coffee! It was just what I wanted as I prepared for a day of skiing at Killington. But most importantly, it was the conversations I had that morning that left me feeling hopeful and uplifted. I chatted with the innkeeper for about 15 minutes as we discussed the world. Later, the couple who were staying from Maine joined me and our conversation was wide-ranging - from skiing to the works of John Steinbeck. Our country is in turmoil. We need to be talking more - especially with folks we don't know. This simple B&B off the beaten path afforded me that privilege, if one chooses to embrace it.
- Camil (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent relaxing stay in the middle of nature. You are literally against the side of the mountain, and the water comes from a spring in the mountain. The room is fantastic and the hosts are very welcoming. Mike makes an amazing breakfast with all the local ingredients.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Incredible hosts - Mike and Barb we so incredibly accommodating and kind, I had a wonderful time staying here and would highly recommend it to others!
- Makenzie (9/5): Wonderful place to stay - It was an extremely beautiful piece of land and there was a nice view of the property from the room. I was surprised by a Vermont meals/room tax of $15, but the owners were so sweet that it wasn’t a big deal.
- Lee (9/5): Awesome retreat in the mountains - Barbara and Mike are very very nice hosts. It has been a great stay minutes away from downtown and the mountain. Very peaceful place. Nothing.
- Maria (8/5): - A charming, reasonably-priced place. Mike and Barb are very accomodating. It was very quiet and we slept very well.
- Peter (10/5): We had an amazing few days and I hope to come back again - A true mountain retreat where you feel like you are home. Breakfast was homemade and delicious. It got us ready for our busy day skiing at Killington. As for the location, it’s close enough to the resort but far enough that you are out in the wilderness.
- Amitay (9/5): Great great place! - Amazing place!
Amazing hospitality!
Good location
Magical night X
- Joanne (10/5): - Mike and Barbara were charming hosts. Their place was very quaint and inviting. And Mike made a delicious breakfast!!
- Mehmet (9/5): Superb - It exceeded our expectations in every way. I don’t think anyone staying here would regret it. Thank you, Mike, Barb and Buddy, for this wonderful hospitality! Nothing
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Outstanding! - Wonderful place to stay! My son and I came up for a couple days of skiing, this was the perfect place to stay. The hosts are extremely kind, the room was very comfortable, and they made a delicious breakfast for us each morning. We will definitely stay here again when we come to Killington.
- Danka (10/5): You won’t find a better location for the money! - Location was great and Mike and Barbara were very hospitable!
- Kathy (10/5): Wonderful stay - Good breakfast Not much
- Ryan (10/5): - Great hosts and location.
- Lacy (10/5): Mike and Barbara were very welcoming. Great bed in breakfast in a beautiful setting. - Lovely place to stay. Charming VT style bed and breakfast. Views are beautiful. The house has such character. Very cozy. As a single female traveler I felt safe here and it was clean. Mike makes a fantastic breakfast. The bedroom door locks when you are in it. While gone not( this didn’t bother me). As in you don’t have a key. I was fine with this. This is a topical VT bnb. Lovely. Shared bathroom. Small corner shower. Water temp and pressure great. Enjoy
Also stairs going to rooms are narrow.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (10/5): A beautiful place with wonderful hosts. - Stunningly beautiful property, we loved everything about it. Mike and Barb are wonderful hosts, so friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. We’d definitely return if we were in the area.
- Tim (9/5): Barbard and Mike were kind, courteous, and wonderful hosts. -
- Katarina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brice (10/5): Killington's best kept secret! - We loved the breakfast! It was homemade and fresh each day. Mike and Barb are amazing people! We will definitely be back! The quiet tranquil setting was refreshing. It was a great location located close, like 5 min, to the slopes and all the stores and restaurants!
- Frank (10/5): - Quiet charming home a few miles off the highway. Only 2 rooms and a very picturesque, relaxing setting. Will serve a home cooked full breakfast in the morning.
- Jared (10/5): Great stay at a quaint, lovely, and homey mountain getaway - The stay was quaint and beautiful during the winter. Warm, comfortable, lovely. Mike & Barb were terrific, accommodating, communicative, and helpful hosts. Breakfast was delicious. My partner and I had a wonderful time and would happily return. Easy access to drive to Killington Ski Resort and surrounding restaurants.
- Joseph (10/5): - Nestled beneath Killington this cute gem was a lovely spot not too far off Rt4, for our overnight stay. Nicely clean, artfully decorated and equipped. Staff were lovely and breakfast was delicious.
- Robert (10/5): Don't Miss This Treasured Gem - This is a bed and breakfast in the Killington, Vermont area not far from the main road. The two-story house is set next to a hillside and no other buildings are visible from it. Mike and Barbara, the owners, emailed us about a week in advance of our stay to welcome us and give us directions. They asked us to call when we knew the hour of our arrival.
We arrived in the evening after a good dinner at the
Foundry on Summit Lake in Killington and met Mike and Barbara. Mike helped us settle in the house. We were directed to a room upstairs that had everything we needed and a comfortable bed. The bath was directly across the hall. This was a shared bath but we never saw the other person using that bathroom until we left the next day.
The staircase to our hall and room was narrow and curved. People with disabilities or heavy luggage should request a first floor room if one is available.
In the morning Mike made us an excellent breakfast. I had warned Mike the evening before that my wife needed strong coffee. He made perfect coffee for her—just right.
Mike sat with us at breakfast. He gave us information on how to reach the Appalachian Trail and how to drive to Woodstock, with tips on places to visit and restaurants. The Mountain Valley Retreat is within 200 yards of the Appalachian Trail. We walked the Trail to a falls (Thunder Falls). The Trail in this area is kept up like the treasure it is.
We recommend the Mountain Valley Retreat.
- Katie (10/5): Lovely place - We only stayed for one night as part of a road trip but really enjoyed our stay. The location is great, very beautiful and peaceful with walks close by. Mike and Barb were very welcoming and Mike prepared a delicious breakfast for us in the morning.
- Miranda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandra (8/5): Beautiful location with a great view and easy access to local area. - The location was beautiful. It was easier to access than I had thought, and close enough to restaurants. Our host, Mike, had sheets with suggested itineraries for day trips. Both he and Barb clearly enjoy welcoming visitors and sharing their home with them. All was well appointed and we were looked after brilliantly. Some folk might not like sharing a bathroom, but it really wasn’t an issue.
- Lynn (10/5): Peaceful escape - Michael and Barbara are the loveliest hosts! Our room was comfortable and the setting is beautiful. And breakfast, as others have mentioned, was wonderful. Enjoyed our brief stay.
- Ilaria (10/5): Top stay in Killington - The owners, the position in the green, the breakfast ! Nothing
- Aliasghar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susanne (8/5): - Mike and Barb are great hosts. Breakfast was delicious. Wish that it was advertised that you shared a bathroom and that there were steep narrow stairs to the second floor.
- Dian (10/5): - The room was quiet and clean with lovely views. I really enjoyed the nice breakfast that Mike prepared for me.
- William (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Mike and Barb made us feel very welcome. They are great hosts.
- Rachel (10/5): - We recently had a lovely stay at the Mountain Valley Retreat - a lovely property in beautiful surroundings, quiet and comfortable. We felt very welcome in Mike and Barb’s home, with an easy check in, lovely breakfasts and helpful recommendations of things to see and do in the area. Thundering Brook Falls is within walking distance to the property and we enjoyed an autumnal walk there. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mountain Valley Retreat as a restful and welcoming place to stay in Vermont. Thanks, Rachel and James
- Joan (10/5): - This lodging was so nice; the property is beautiful, the hosts are friendly, helpful and accommodating and the breakfast in the lovely nook was perfect- my husband and I highly recommend this bed and breakfast ~
- Dallen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michel (10/5): Nice charming place! Friendly people and delicious breakfast! - Nice charming place! Friendly people and delicious breakfast! We look forward to come back and see you again. Lise Daneau et Michel Dufour (Montréal, QC, Canada).
Merci beaucoup!

- Deborah (10/5): - The place is beautiful and well maintained. Nice and clean.
- Andrew (10/5): - We spent one night at Mountain Valley Retreat to attend a wedding. We liked the quiet, the location and the incredible breakfast in the morning. A unique property lends itself well to those who need some time away from the hustle and bustle.
- David (10/5): A wonderful stay - This place is a jewel nested in the nature, lovely house and cozy rooms, great homemade breakfast.
Mike and Barbra the hosts are fantastic.
- Agnelo (10/5): - Very well located property with a great view- more a Bed and Breakfast run by an elderly couple who go to great lengths to impress with their breakfast service
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable room in a quaint, out-of-the -way home - The room was clean and comfortable and the hosts were welcoming and attentive. I would suggest the listing be more forthcoming about the shared bathroom and the narrow steep stairs to the rooms. Knowing ahead of time how remote the location is would have minimized my initial concern, since it turned out not to be a problem. I would feel more comfortable if I could have locked the door to my room when I went out. It was only lockable when I was in the room.
On a positive note, breakfast was made to order at a time convenient for me, beautifully laid out and delicious!
