Alexander (2/5): Extremely noisy - All the positive aspects mentioned by other reviewers were present at the property. The staff was very friendly and hospitable, the service was outstanding, and the rooms were clean, beautiful, and spacious. There was a fantastic atmosphere of an antique building in the heart of a very old city, complemented by a delicious and generous breakfast. However, we left after the first night, even though we had booked for three, and here’s why: 1. The mattress was far too soft for us, resulting in backaches that lasted the entire next day. 2. The nearest minaret is about 100 meters away, and the muezzin starts calling for prayers loudly at 4:55 AM. We prefer to sleep at that time, but it was impossible. 3. The sound insulation in our room was almost non-existent. After spending the evening listening to other guests talking and coughing as if they were in the same room, my wife refused to be intimate in the hotel. Of course, this was just our subjective experience.
anthony (10/5): You too can feel like an effendi - We had a wonderful stay in this restored mansion house. The rooms and public areas have stunning high ceilings. There are artworks in every corner. It is like a museum, The bedroom, bathroom, beds, and linen were perfect. The position is in the heart of the old city overlooking the sea. We did stretching exercises every morning on the balcony where the management had left gym mats. The outstanding breakfast was served in a large hall with a six-meter ceiling! The breakfast was a fusion of the best Israeli and Palestinian cuisine. A lovely spread. This was an excellent choice of hotel in this interesting town. The hotel staff without exception were charming.

Verified traveler (10/5): Special Hotel - Beautiful hotel in the center of the Akko old city. Pros: fantastic service, rooms are large and very comfortable, common areas are simply beautiful and very unique. Location is great for those looking to spend time in Akko. Cons: given the location, expect unusual noise in the middle of the night from the mosque nearby and in the early morning from church bells. Yes, it adds to the ambiance, no, it is not charming and does not allow a good night’s sleep. Friendly tip: the beautiful window decoration in each room that allows sunlight in means that full light comes in early AM. Let the hotel know that you’d like it covered if looking to sleep in.
Amy (10/5): Effendi Oct 20222 - The boutique hotel was amazing, and the rooms, and common rooms are beautiful. They are attentive, free minibar for soft drinks, water etc. My only complaint would be it’s hard to find along small street and impossible to get your car really close. Parking is not so easy and is off site. But once you get there, it’s a true experience. We would stay there again. Yana at front desk is a wealth of knowledge on the historical aspect of the building and she’s inviting, friendly and all smiles. Wouldn’t be same without her.
Gary (10/5): - More than a hotel, the Efendi is truly the epitome of luxury and comfort. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, down to the smallest detail. The bathrooms are equally spacious with large showers and tubs, marble floors and walls. The ceilings are very high (15 feet or more) and allow for large windows providing abundant natural light. When not in your room there are several places to relax including a beautiful roof top lounge where you can watch the sun set, a northern patio with a spectacular view of the sea and the coastline, and a cozy cellar room. The hotel has an excellent selection of Israeli wines for purchase and these can be enjoyed in all these spaces. Despite being surrounded by buildings in the old city of Akko, the interior of the hotel is quiet and calm. The hotel also offers what I consider to be the best breakfast anywhere in Israel. It is fresh, varied, and plentiful, and served in a beautifully restored Ottoman period room. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and always available. I also recommend that you try the hamam treatment. It was a fantastic time, in a room that is made just for this type of experience. We stayed for two nights and could easily have stayed for two more.

SHARON (8/5): מצויין עם מקום לשיפור - המקלחת מרווחת מאד אבל האסלה לחוצה בין הכיור לאמבטיה והקרש לעמידה ליד האמבטיה מגביל את השימוש באסלה עוד יותר. ארוחת הבוקר נערכת על שולחן אחד ארוך. האוכל והשירות מצויינים אך כיוון שכל אורחי המלון הגיעו לאכול באותה שעה היה מאד צפוף ולא נעים.

Asal (2/5): Found a huge roach on the night stand - We stayed there for 2 night- they gave us a handicapped room even though we didn’t need it or want one. The bathroom flooded every time we showered and although we asked if this could be fix. The second night I found a HUGE ROACH on the night stand table and when we called the front desk the man claimed in couldn’t understanding what I was saying me and hung up the phone on me and never even bother to call back or come by to make sure everything was ok- I was so disgusted and freaked out and was not able to sleep the rest of the night. This was the last thing I expected from a 5 star hotel and very disappointed on the way they handle the situation- the manager in the morning said she would take off 20% of one night which barley came out to $50 ( when converted to dollars). Specially when you compare it to how much we paid for this stay (well over $650) They did not offer to do anything else to make it up to us and just said this is the season for bugs- the hotel manager cares more about making money then making sure the guestes are well taken care of and happy. The girl at the front desk did say on our way out that they will speak to the owner Uri Buri (which also owns a restaurant near by) and will inform him what happened and see if there is anything else thag can done I never heard from him or anyone else from anyone. Clearly the hotel doesn care. Such a disgusting experience I don’t suggest anyone staying here!! IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG THEY WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP FIX IT!!

The building itself served as a residential palace during the Turkish-Ottoman period, and care has been taken in the restoration. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly, the rooms and public spaces were clean and the breakfast served was excellent. However, while everything is above satisfactory, as someone who travels frequently, I feel that the hotel is grossly overpriced and does not offer a good value-for-money service.

Karelle (8/5): Wonderful stay - The hotel at efendi was beautiful. We rented a car and while it was a little difficult navigating the Akko streets - someone ran from the hotel immediately to park the car. The surrounding area is beautiful and it makes for a perfect home base. The real highlight of course is Uri Buri, excellent service (especially our server who was funny and accommodating), the food alone is worth the trip.

It is a unique hotel, with attention to every detail. the rooms decor, some have hand painted ceiling, is beautiful. every element - from special curtains, to the vintage coffee cups, the special lamps - one can feel the touch and special attention given down to the last detail. There are several high ceiling public spaces, decorated with genuine art pieces. view from the hall, the balcony and the roof is perfect. either you watch the Mediterranean sunset, or eastbound to the Galilee mountains - we were surrounded by the old city houses and roofs. a spectacular, relaxing views. Breakfast was served in the dining room over a large monks-type table. Food was perfectly fresh made. it's a culinary experience by itself.

The best part though is its setting: a luxury hotel in the middle of the Arab old city. It is a very exciting setting. Don't forget to eat at Uri Buri. Eating there is the perfect complement to staying at The Efendi.

Romantic couple (6/5): Not worth the price - High expectations left us disappointed. Our room was small, without space to open 2 carry-on suitcases comfortably. Without a balcony, it bordered on feeling cramped. The bathroom, though beautifully appointed (minus a toilet brush), didn't have enough space to lay out our toilet articles. Amenities were nothing special. The "view" was over cluttered courtyards that couldn't pass for picturesque because of the mess. The highly touted breakfast was not buffet style as customary in Israeli hotels but rather served in small portions around a single table with all guests were seated together, not conducive to the romance we went away for, with the proximity of others either forcing us into conversation with them or leaving us sitting in uncomfortable silence. While quality of the food was fine (but not exceptional), and waiters were prepared to bring "seconds," there were things they ran out of and service was slow such that we felt uncomfortable asking. For the price, would have expected a "turn-down" service with a chocolate placed on the pillow. Spa and Turkish bath were off limits, unless one ordered an overpriced massage. Inside public areas were exquisite and luxurious, finished with impressive attention to artistic detail. The open roof, however, while offering a gorgeous view did not offer the same level of luxury. In fairness, we reserved the least expensive room and are larger ones with nicer views, but the price for them is considerably higher.
Alex (6/5): Nice hotel but have to walk thru alleys to access - Hotel inside was beautiful, but the website is misleading. Looking out the window you aren't looking at the ocean, but at shaby rooftops. You can see the sea when you look over the ugly rooftops. Parking is about 2-3 minutes away. A bellboy comes to the parking lot and brings the bags to the hotel, but we had to walk several times at night thru the alleys to get to the hotel with men sitting outside. My wife was very nervous, 6 men sitting outside one of the times. Nothing bad happened to us, but it was still nervewracking. Once inside the hotel it's absolutely beautiful, but it's surrounded by old and ugly buildings. The staff was terrific, breakfast was very good. They have a spa on the premises, while we didn't try them it appeared to be very small spa center. Hotel does have an elevator - was told it's the only elevator in the city - but depending on the room you get you may have to walk up some stairs to get to your room and if you are hauling luggage or baby stroller it's a pain in the neck.

We got upgraded to a Royal room which was lovely. Breakfast was great too. Don't miss the rooftop terrace - perfect for watching the sun go down with a glass of wine.
