Breakfast was lovely but could have been bigger. Just 1 slice of toast each.

The meals are truly excellent and pricing is very reasonable. Nothing at all apart from the fact that cellphone coverage is under par, but that's not the Crown's fault of course.

Staff are friendly Unfortunately we didn’t manage to get into our room early before a 12 noon wedding as they had noted the wrong time of arrival. Not a huge problem as we were unsure if it would be available anyway. We wasn’t asked about breakfast so had to text while we were at the wedding to make sure we were booked in We wasn’t advised of our room location so had to call the WhatsApp number at 11pm to find out where it was (it was above the pub rather than in the annexe and there is no signage). The phone signal is awful and I was wondering round the village trying to get service in order to get a signal to speak to someone. Was actually quite concerned at one point that we were not going to be able to get into our room It is a lovely location and within walking distance for a wedding at All Saints Church and Elton Hall but do not think it is particularly good value for money

- Robert (8/5): A very pleasant pub in which to stay - This is a very attractive thatched pub set in an idyllic village. We stayed on a Monday night and had been told that their restaurant was closed. However they brought a couple of excellent sandwiches to the room. The room was nicely decorated and there was an adjoining shower room. It was quiet and we slept well. Breakfast was good. The room had an outside area which would have been nice if the weather had been better. My only criticism would be that the weather in early June was grim and the room was cold when we arrived. There was an electric radiator but it this took some hours to warm the room. It would have been great if someone had turned it on prior to our arrival.

Tastefully decorated and beautifully clean. I’d booked 2 garden rooms which were able to be connected! Felt like we were in a private bungalow. Easy access and car can park right outside. Owner super helpful and went out of his way to drop us to a family wedding in the next village. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Food good! Thank you!! I’m only disappointed that I couldn’t stay longer!

Liked having a nightlight and thought the flapjack and fresh milk were a nice touch. I would have liked to have breakfast but felt that £30 was rather a steep price to pay. Fantastic country pub with friendly and efficient staff and excellent food. The rooms are amazing and the local area is stunning in parts. It’s quite isolated, but quiet as a consequence and the wi-fi is not great as you might expect, but it’s ok as long as you don’t need to be online all the time.

Everyone (clearly locals) just stared at me, which could be a bit daunting if travelling alone

- Andrew (6/5): Highs & Lows… the staff made up for any disappointment with the bedroom & lack of sleep. - Characterful property in a pretty village. Good restaurant and bar. Dinner & breakfast was very good and the staff were excellent. Car Parking very good. We stayed in the Stamford room and paid £286 for one night B&B which was far too expensive for the quality of the room even though it was the Burghley Horse Trials w/e nearby. Before arrival we thought the room was going to be exceptional for the price. The bedroom is located above the kitchens and you can hear everything going on below throughout the afternoon prep. and during the night the refrigerators, fans, expanding water pipes, etc are so noisy. The air conditioning makes strange noises too, the tv & screen are complicated especially as these had been disconnected by a previous guest and not reconnected, the electric shower is impossible to regulate. This is why the rating for facilities has been given a low mark. Other bedrooms might be fine of course.

- Hethweth (5/5): 5 star price, 3 star service. - This hotel/inn is as picturesque as they come. The external presentation is simply stunning and the new rooms in the external annexe were also immaculate and well thought out (we had four of them - all different, but all beautiful and all but one had really comfy beds). The bar and dining areas were equally well appointed and as pretty as you might image or hope from the outside. The restaurant where we ate on our first night had a fabulous menu and the food was definitely above average. The public areas in the inn are a bit tired and the toilets, stairwells, much indeed of an update and a bit of TLC. As individuals the staff were all equally lovely but clearly either poorly trained or poorly supported by management and very much over busy. We arrived after a long journey and no one really knew who's job it was to check us in. We were left standing uncomfortably in the busy bar area with 4 large suitcases, for longer than felt comfortable whilst they sorted things out. The lady who took over our registration seemed a bit put out that we needed showing to our rooms which were somewhere outside the back of the hotel and we had no idea where to head without guidance. We later realised she was, single handedly, also trying to take orders and wait on, and deliver food & drink to the restaurant customers at the same time. Having arrived at 7.45pm with a restaurant table booking for 8pm but she told us whilst we were still checking in to 'be quick if we wanted to eat' as a large group booking was coming in at 8.30pm so we needed to get our orders in quickly. we certainly felt a more hassled than welcome after our long drive. The next morning breakfast was along a similar vein. As lovely as they were, the young staff seem ill-equipped or untrained to tale orders efficiently and deliver the correct request. For the price, breakfast options were pretty limited and we saw one poor lady who ordered their 'vegetarian version' of the 'full English' which was simply one tomato and one mushroom in the middle of a dinner plate! The final straw - having paid around £1,500 for our 4 rooms for two nights, I was asked to pay an extra £2.75 for a cappuccino at the breakfast table. Pretty poor show. On the whole, we feel the place is beautiful with potential to be fabulous.

- Richard (10/5): A perfect stay - My stay was perfect. A beautiful pub with a fantastic welcome and attention throughout my stay. The food and beer was first class as was breakfast. Pubs like this deserve to succeed. There was nothing not to like.

- David (9/5): Great stay. Lovely little hotel b&b - The location was peaceful. The staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. The room was spacious and really clean. Lots of parking available. The phone reception in the area was really bad and the fire alarm went off at 2am. We couldn’t contact the owner so we had to ring the fire brigade but these things happen. Maybe there should be somebody on site at all times.
