Guest Reviews
- Anthony (10/5): - Beautiful location nice comfortable rooms. Dinner was lovely but portions a little small for my liking. Hotels own wine was lovely.
Breakfast adequate but a bit basic. Very friendly staff
- Christopher (8/5): Fantastic views - Great views over the Duoro valley. Very narrow access road. Limited choice dinner menu and nowhere else to eat nearby. No balcony in our room but website says all rooms have balcony.
- Angela (8/5): - Lovely pool area . Some great waiting staff. Nice rooms . Think the menu was a bit limited .
- sylvias488 (8/5): Wine hotel with a beautiful view - Wine hotel with picturesque views. We stayed here for two nights and loved the food at the restaurant. Only thing was that the pool area didn't have so many sun chairs and was a bit noisy when there were alot of kids. All in all loved the design of the room and service was excellent.
- Ravi (10/5): - Beautiful property in the beautiful Douro Valley with a nice pool. There is no winery on site, but it is in the middle of beautiful vineyards. You can go down the road to Pinhao or to St. Eufemia Winery for a tour. Breakfast was great and the staff was very accomodating. Great price for a beautiful stay. The property would benefit from some more outdoor leisure areas to sit peacefully and enjoy the view other than the balcony of your room or the pool/deck. Lenore at the desk was very nice and very helpful.
- Luis (10/5): - Excellent service. Beautiful view!!
- Roger (10/5): - Very nice boutique type place. The people there are really welcoming and warm. The food is 100% homemade and just exquisite.
- john (10/5): - The hotel was in a remote area but had beautiful views and was worth the effort.
The swimming pool was a welcome addition as it was very hot when we arrived.
The dinner and breakfast were good.
There seemed to be a problem with the doors to the rooms which people kept banging to get them to close. Added to that someone managed to open our door when we were almost asleep and the hotel dog ran into our room. Very disconcerting and not condusive to a good nights sleep.
- yoel (10/5): - Very good stay over all, with two litlr problems, very small tv and no real shower
- Teresa (10/5): Lovely underrated Quinta - Lovely underrated Quinta. A little out of the way without a car but well worth travelling to. Accommodating and helpful staff make it feel like you are staying with family.
- Chantal (10/5): - Great stay
- Nicola (6/5): - Nice and very clean room. Horrible road leading to the hotel not well signalled. Difficult Access should be made clear at booking. Good breakfast average very expensive dinner!
- janelle (10/5): - Great accommodation and great food!
- Bernhard (10/5): - The hotel itself was very nice and comfortable. The only minor issue is its location. It is located in the middle of vineyards with stunning views. However, the road to the hotel is very narrow and winding, with only enough space for one car. We had problems on several occasions finding the access road. Once we were familiar with the surroundings it was no problem.
There are also limited dining options nearby (the hotel provides dinner, though, but no lunch) so a car is an absolute necessity.
Still, I would recommend this hotel for the friendly staff, the great wines on offer, and the amazing views.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good experience; unique hotel, unique location.
- Shane (6/5): - The food at the restaurant was good but the dinners were overpriced.
- Lori (10/5): - Very welcoming staff, delicious food and wine, peaceful getaway, beautiful scenery.
- Phillip (10/5): Wine hotel with views - Beautiful hotel with amazing views of the Duoro Valley
- ruurd (10/5): - Outstanding wines and great dining
Great breakfast which is included
- Jennifer (10/5): - We recently stayed at Casaldroho Wine Hotel and enjoyed our relaxing stay. While it was colder outside and we couldn't enjoy the terrace or pool, we enjoyed the quiet bar area and the dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. Lovely stay.
- Livia (10/5): Good employees … - Good people working such as Henrique , Rita .. really nice and made us as comfortable as possible.
- Julien (8/5): - Très bien pas grand chose à dire très belle vue le déjeuner est excellent
- Elizabeth (8/5): Pleasant Stay - The staff were very nice and we enjoyed our room and the grounds. The guests would greatly benefit from better signage at the turn-off on the road as well as along the long drive to the Quinta. Dinner was nice and the breakfast was more than sufficient.
- Hilary (10/5): A beautiful quinta which had everything we needed! - A fantastic stay at a beautiful property with amazing views and surroundings - and dog friendly ! We had the best time including our Labrador who loved exploring the vineyards ! Shame we couldn’t use the pool as it wasn’t very suitable due to the weather, but nevertheless, it was a great experience !
Topping it off with great hospitality throughout !
- lgpanther (8/5): great balcony and fantastic views - The hotel staff very friendly, tourist hotel. The rooms are a good size, great balcony and fantastic views. It is a little out of town. But has a wonderful restaurant for dinner. Very good selection of local wines and dishes. The breakfast is included and has all the typical Portuguese items and fresh cooked eggs to order.
- Charles (10/5): - Great
- Nickolas (10/5): - If you’re looking for a place to escape the crowds of Porto and enjoy the beautiful vineyards, then this is your spot. Spacious rooms, small, but nice bar area and rooftop pool. Their wines are great, and food was very good for dinner (especially the octopus).
Breakfast buffet was good, plus they made eggs to order along with fantastic bacon.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Difficult to reach - Whilst the photos look amazing it's starting to look a bit neglected. The pillows were terrible and the views were disappointing with high powered electric power lines running every which way. Next time I'd stay closer down to the river. The pool and rooftop was a good spot to sit in the late afternoon but the pool was too cold to get into. From the hotel pictures I thought we'd have views down the valley & catch a glimpse of the Douro so was quite disappointed. Staff weren't particularly friendly at all either.
- Richard (10/5): - This was an excellent place to stay. Although the menu choices were limited (2 each of starter, main and dessert) we thought that was wholly understandable given the hotel was catering for around 20 - 25 people per day. The food was beautifully cooked.
The rooftop pool was a great place to unwind (with the happy hour drinks between 5 and 7pm) before heading to the restaurant.
We found the room to be comfortable and clean (and kept that way during our 5 nights there.
Initially, we found the access a little challenging (down a small cobbled track for about 500 - 600 metres) and perhaps more precision about getting there would be beneficial.
- Voyager47705220180 (2/5): DREADFUL WITH A DANGEROUS DOG - Gorgeous contemporary hotel which is badly let down by its food and the “couldn’t care less” attitude of the management. We arrived hot and thirsty only to be told that there was hardly any cold beers. Then found that there were only two choices of starters - soup or duck, the main courses were either lamb or octopus….. or nothing. Annoyingly, I was offered cod once all the other members of the group were being served their main courses - too late as everyone else would’ve finished eating by the time the cod was cooked and served to me. We had heard that the food was fabulous and we were in for a treat, the pics on here do look amazing - unfortunately the reality was very disappointing.
On top of all that they have what could only be described as a feral dog free roaming the premises. The dog thinks nothing of wrapping its sharp teeth around the ankles of guests, steals items of clothing and chews them and flies at people barking with all its teeth out - quite terrifying, despite the best efforts of the staff to catch it. I told the person on reception of this when we checked out and all he did was shrug his shoulders - no apology.
We hope to return to this area in the future but will be giving this hotel a wide berth.
Awful experience - not to be repeated.
- Nick (8/5): - The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is in a picturesque area with fabulous views. Quite tricky to find - use satnav.
Rooms are rather small. The food in the restaurant was very good especially the dessert.
Not suitable if you have limited mobility .
Nice wine at a good price
Good place to stay if you want to see and experience the Duro valley
- 383ifatk (2/5): Bad experience! - On the first night we suffered from bites after sleeping in bed and complained, we asked for the bed to be disinfected but it was not done and it happened again the second night. It was bed bugs , we were very badly stung. Disappointing and infuriating! They never took responsibility for this!
In addition, The place needs a major renovation , it's not well maintained and the pool does not look like the pictures at all.
- Samuel (10/5): - The views
- Camper04401604195 (6/5): Restaurante not ok - The view is excellent and the rooms are also ok, comfortable and clean. The pool and it’s temperature were very nice. We do not recommend the restaurant and that includes breakfast and dinner. It’s not worth the price.
Also the swimming pool is not true to the photos on the website however, it’s still nice.
- Jenny (10/5): Super special, highly recommended! - We loved every minute of our stay at the Quinta do Casaldronho! The attention to detail from every member of the team makes this a special place to visit. Warm welcome, super rooms with comfy bed and good shower, wonderful pool, excellent food and of course Casaldronho wine all with 365 views of extraordinary countryside. We will be back!
- Kevin (10/5): Spectacular stop in the Douro Valley - An amazing place to stay. It’s out of the way but well worth it. Spectacular views, great rooms, nice pool, and nice staff. Breakfast was also good. Dinner available at the hotel rather than driving into town.
- Martin (10/5): - The location and the view. The staff were friendly and as always make the difference!
- Jose (10/5): - Perfect place to reset yourself! Surrounded by natural beauty of the Douro Valley.
- Jonathan (10/5): - The whole property was stunning. The hotel rooms were very nice and the views were incredible. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The staff was very nice and helpful.
- Alejandro (10/5): - The sorrundings are amazing. The place is ona of a kind.
- Henry (10/5): - Hotel was excellent although somewhat out of the way. Th entrance road to access the property was a little difficult but the views were excellent, especially from the swimming pool.
- Cheryl (6/5): - Great views
- Christine (10/5): - The building is beautiful and it’s set in the most stunning surroundings. You can really relax here. It is out of town but taxis are easy if you don’t have a car and you get the incredible views. Also thought the breakfast was the best and loved our dinners in the restaurant.
- Francisco (10/5): - The hotel is a very good base to explore the Alto Douro region. Is close to Lamego, Régua and to other wineries.
The food is very good and the staff is very attentive and helpful. We stay for 2 nights and it was quite enjoyable.
- Mike (10/5): - Wonderful all around
- Kathan (10/5): - Great stay! We had an awesome time. Stay is really friendly and welcoming. We did the wine tasting which was excellent! Rooms are upscale and clean. The hotel is up to date and well furnished.
- Emily (4/5): - It’s obvious after our stay why this property is much cheaper than some of its peers-you definitely get what you pay for.
Some noteworthy info:
1. Check in front desk person was quite rude and uninviting when we checked in
2. Room was fine with the exception of a large crack in the bathroom wall and the light on the porch didn’t turn off which required us to shut curtains fully and not enjoy sunrise
3. Dining experience was pretty atrocious for dinner-it’s clear they are going for “fine dining” with the pricing and style but several elements made it fall below this. The (inside) restaurant was covered in flies and bugs-at the end of the night there were 10 bugs in my wine and no server acknowledged the diners aggressively swatting or covering their food and drink to prevent this. The veal was hammered-extremely over cooked. As others have mentioned the vegetables (though artfully arranged) were clearly canned and disgusting at a time when fresh vegetables were very much in season. The worst and most expensive meal on our trip.
4. The views as others have mentioned were marred by power lines but as we are not a couple that enjoys an off the grid experience and does enjoy the modern convenience of electricity we cannot fault the hotel for this.
I would recommend this property strip it back to basics and improve staff training and attitude, address the huge bug/pest problem, and focus on improving the quality of food and less on the artfulness of it.
- Marco (10/5): - Extremely peaceful.
- Patricia J. (6/5): - This property has the most lovely views of the Douro Valley wine country; superb. The rooms and dining facility are very comfortable, as is the lounge and outdoor pool, on top of the building. Unfortunately, the food was not so great, very bland and a limited menu for dinner (only two choices, neither our favorite) and poorly prepared. That is the main reason for our lower rating for this facility.
- Joseph (10/5): - The views from this property are amazing. If you like hiking/walking, there is a lovely view of the Douro River Dam at the top of the Vinyard. You might have the friendly (outside) dog, Oreo, accompany you.
- Sarah (10/5): - This is hands down the most beautiful place I’ve stayed. Roof top pool amazing and a quick taxi from Regua. The breakfast was great too
- mariobC4560YE (10/5): Great place to stay! - Beautiful spot, great sceneries, great wines and fantastic service. Positioned in the heart of the Douro Valley it's serene and a great place to relax. Rhaul took fantastic care of us. He took the time to make our friend's birthday extra special
and was always present when we needed assistance or guidance.
Thank you!
- Voyage27573365431 (2/5): Not recommended by us ! - Poor welcome at reception, not felt welcome, room warm, fridge not working, a little dirty, lounge furniture outside not acceptable, pictures in Internet do not reflect the reality, sorry, but I will not return here really, 4 stars is 100% different, do not feel comfortable here and welcome, totally overpriced, offering no comfort, tough, but the truth.
- 629gianfrancoc (8/5): Great stay, friendly staff - The staff is super friendly and are always there with a smile. It is a beautiful view but not as that beautiful if compared to other wineries in the region but the hotel and room size/amenities are just perfect. My only recommendation is that the breakfast/dining room since they are the same (which is okay) but the furniture/decoration should be a little bit more fancy to offer a better dining experience (for the dinner) as how it is, it is making it to look a little cheap. But overall it was a great stay.
- anneliesa (10/5): - Beautiful, peaceful property with dining options and very friendly staff
- Dolma (10/5): - It was a lovely stay, the food was great, staffs were very accommodating, clean and a quiet place on top of the hilltop. Amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing hotel bathed in history and the wine industry. Incredible views.
- Francis (10/5): - Stunning! Loved everything about it: great staff, food, spectacular views. 30 minutes drive to Pinhao along the Douro. Would plan another trip to Portugal just based on this hotel.
- Eiizabeth (10/5): Amazing views, great bed - This hotel was the highlight of our stay in Portugal. Amazing views and great bed. The room was small but comfortable and the breakfast was good. One thing to note is that the ventilation system is noisy and always on - they said they can’t turn it off. They did manage to make it a bit quieter in our room but that meant we couldn’t use the aircon so we just had a fan heater (which was fine, the room is very well insulated). They could improve signage to the property but if you arrive in the daytime it’s not too bad
- Jessica (8/5): - Amazing property and people. It’s just far from activity, especially in the winter. I imagine summer and fall might be amazing. Fortunately we were tired and didn’t want to do much. Water in the rooms would be also be nice for guests. Thanks!
- Leila Margarida (10/5): - Wonderful place for honeymoon. Very romantic. The staff was very attentive and helpful with us. The ambiance is beautiful and very calming.
- Matthew (10/5): - Very nice place, excellent views, welcoming staff. The drive to the property is harrowing, and a small car recommended for the narrow roads into the hotel from the top of the hill.
- Rebecca (10/5): Best service in Portugal to date ! - Hands down the best staff and service in Portugal on my trip. I would 100% recommend this hotel for service, views and off the beaten track. Getting there is not for the faint of heart. If you’re driving it’s a bit adventurous but worth it. Great food, lovely rooms, great coffee maker in the room. The pool is unfortunately not heated though.
I hope to be back one day !
- Rick (10/5): - Clean, great views, excellent breakfast and dinner. Very helpful staff
- Jean-Francis (10/5): -
- Gustavo (10/5): Fantastic stay and espectacular views - Amazing. The view from the bedroom it’s just espectacular. The staff is super friendly and I loved the decor. We had a fantastic stay. I will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.
- Chua Ruey (10/5): Highly recommended for a quiet retreat - Amazing property in the midst of the vineyard. Better to have a car to get around in Douro Valley. Restaurant dinners were great, more upscale Portguese style. Housekeeping was top notch. Look out for the moody cat at the bar and you will fall in love with the over zealous guest relations furries on the compound.
- MARCIA (10/5): - Very relaxing in a beautiful setting, very friendly and helpful staff…… love this hotel and it’s location… so beautiful
- Alejandro (10/5): - The staff was excellent, we got there late in the evening and they arranged a late dinner for us even though they were almost closing their kitchen. Everyone was thoughtful and very helpful. Awesome views of the Douro river and Mountains
- Lixian (10/5): - Great room with Mountain View of grape te
- Louis (10/5): Amazing relaxation - Amazing hotel in the middle of the grape vine fields. So quiet and relaxing ! Staff was great and food at the restaurant was really good! Large rooms very clean and modern.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Huge disappointment - Don’t like to leave negative reviews but I do wish I’d read this warning before we booked…
We’d booked 4 nights and after 1, we arranged to stay somewhere else. You can find much better in the area.
The building itself was an interesting design but has been finished and furnished cheaply and lazily. The staff are doing their best but there aren’t nearly enough (one person to cover reception, bar and restaurant) and the lack of any management really shows. Food was uncooked and they didn’t put out wet floor signs when they mopped reception until after someone fell and cut themselves. So frustrating as the place has a lot of potential but needs proper management and a decent refurb.
- Dulce (10/5): - Beautiful views and very clean
- Tali (6/5): - Unfortunately real and actual status of the roo
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was excellent.
The road the the place was the down fall. Especially traveling a night with a rental car and not familiar with area.
So we stayed in for the night . The wine tasting , dinner and service was excellent.
Made up for drive to the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Property in the vineyards, in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful
- Igor (10/5): Amazing experience - Our experience was fantastic. The people of Hotel were very dear and sympathetic.
- daniel (10/5): Stylish refuge in fascinating Douro valley - A perl in the amazing hilly landscape of the Douro, with fantastic views of the steep vineyards on all sides. Stylish elegance in a natural way, harmonically embedded in the rural environment. Inviting rooftop terrace with pool. The staff did their utmost to provide (almost) normal service during Corona times with mandatory restrictions, which was mostly felt through the somewhat reduced food options. Great bar and cocktails. Internet access in rooms could be better.
- Sarah (10/5): - I had a fab stay with two really lovely wine tours and tastings and a day recovering around a beautiful rooftop pool in the mountains. It was bliss and all in the most stunning setting. I’ll be back.
- Nikolay (8/5): Beautiful place to stay - Good Hotel and nice place to visit.
Only downside is the swimming pool it not heated water!?
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful property and rooms!
The staff was terrific, the food and drinks were excellent, and the
view from our room and balcony overlooking the vineyards were amazing!
I would highly recommend this property.
- Daniel (8/5): Pleasant stay in the Douro Valley - Nice hotel tucked up in the hills surrounding Peso da Régua. Extremely quiet and peaceful. The drive to the hotel is extremely scenic, but be prepared for some steep and narrow roads. We didn’t eat at the restaurant and so can’t comment on dinner, but the buffet breakfast in the morning was fine and the cheese / meat platter in the bar was very tasty. A taxi ride into town is approximately 10 euros. Room was comfortable with a nice balcony. Better pillows would be nice touch.
- Ivan (2/5): - Environment is fine, but very awful food (dinner).
- LaniB (10/5): - This is a very special property! The staff is amazing and you get an amazing view and feel of the Duoro Valley! It’s very cozy and beautiful!
I would try to arrive during the daylight as the drive is a bit tough - when maps tells you to turn at Quinta Blanca, don’t. You want the next driveway.
Also if you can, try to book ahead for a tour of the winery. We’ve heard it’s special but we missed it.
We can’t say enough good things about the fabulous staff, gorgeous views and great food and wine!
Bravo to Marlen, Raul and Pedro!!
- William (10/5): Great stay - This place was beautiful. Smaller hotel so it was never crowded. The pool was awesome with a great view! A little out of the way for those who like to be right in town. Raul and Marlene and the others staff went above and beyond. They were so amazing and helpful.
- glen (8/5): - Would have liked a complimentary tasting of the properties wines.
- C p Billingham (8/5): Nice place - Really nicely designed hotel and great place to get away from it all. Would have liked to have done some wine tasting, which didn’t seem to be on offer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view is amazing. Great rooftop pool. Drive in is scary if you’re not used to narrow roads.
- Fairuz (10/5): A peaceful getaway in the Douro Valley. - We loved our stay at Quinta de Casaldronho! The views from the rooms are absolutely stunning and the staff is really friendly. Breakfast was really nice and though we didn't partake in the dinner, the 3-course deal for €30 sounded delicious. We are definitely planning to stay again during our next trip to the Douro Valley.
- NA YU (8/5): - Great stay. Nice place. Food is not so fantastic.
- Dee (6/5): - Great views and comfy but way off the beaten track. Staff were very helpful. We arrived around 6pm however and we had not made a reservation to eat at the hotel. They were completely full and could not accommodate us. The drive in the dark to the hotel is quite tricky and after a long drive we did not want to venture out to look for food. There is nothing else close by as the hotel is isolated. The staff did manage to rustle something up for us.
- Pablo (10/5): - All the rooms have a great view, and the hotel is nearby the town of Regua, but far enough that you can have a quiet time. Very nice place to stay and a great location of a vacation in the middle of your Portugal vacation.
- Else (6/5): - The hotel is definitely not a 4 star, the rooms are tiny the overal hotel rate should be a 2 but the staff are very nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It’s a winding road up to this property (about €14 one way to regua train station) but the vista is amazing and staff are sooooo nice. They are always ready to help. We also enjoyed dinner here and a walk up to see grapes hanging on trees, olives maturing on trees, etc. (in early October).
- M (8/5): - Some more attention to the maintanace of the room's facilities!
- Portugual (8/5): - Everything was great but the dinner was a big let down.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place to relax, not much to do.
- Peter (8/5): - Hotel is nice. Scenic quiet location. A little difficult to find. A ways from nearest town. Food was good. I used it as a base to drive the N222 highway in the Druro valley.
