Guest Reviews
- 768bf07fb2f17312628d6ff05430c547 (9/5): Relaxing Tybee Getaway - Rick, the innkeeper, was a fantastic guy. He made the most amazing breakfasts! A unique, thoroughly interesting and delightful host! The location on the beach was great for morning walks and enjoying the sea air. Very quiet and peaceful location. Our room was spacious and comfortable, albeit in an older home. Nice balcony with sliders to enjoy partial views of the ocean and the breeze. The hotel and facilities associated with this B and B were clean but fairly dated, apparently like many places along the beach. Nothing upscale or resort-like. No bar or poolside amenities (not even a bathroom), but a great beachside place 2 minutes walk from here. Be prepared for stairs at the inn. They did not bother us, but some folks with mobility challenges may have problems. This is a comfortable place, but shows it's age.
- Fambro (10/5): Awesome. Place will book again. - Location. Staff. Innkeeper. Breakfast. Shower water pressure
- Theresa (8/5): short but nice stay - it looked better in pictures but was still nice.. enjoyed very much our breakfast and Rick! we had a partial water view but also had a structure as our view
- Charles (10/5): One of the best experiences of our many beach trips. - The breakfast was excellent, prepared with attention to healthy, fresh ingredients. The inn keeper was so very thoughtful and helpful. I can't think of anything that I didn't like about our lovely stay there.

- Dennis (10/5): -
- Robbie (9/5): - nice b & B
- Caleb (7/5): -
- Jaishri (7/5): Comfortable but very compact - The location was excellent The staff although courteous , they were very rigid about check out time , we just asked for an extension of 30 minutes , but they were not very accommodating to the customers and very rude
- Beverly (10/5): A charming stay at the inn - We enjoyed the stay more than expected and even extended an extra day. Once we understood it was more than just a hotel, but was actually an inn with a charming Scottish host who prepared everything for an amazing gluten-free breakfast, we knew we had to extend our stay. (Best gf waffles ever!)
The bed was comfortable, and the use of the lounge area to read our books or sit on the patio or even lay in the hammock, helped us slip into relaxation. With the beach just outside we took long walks and returned relaxed to our home at the “inn”. It was unclear when I booked if the breakfast could accommodate my dietary needs even after checkin with several staff members until I spoke to the innkeeper. So glad I took the chance.
Alles sehr lecker.
Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber. Der Parkplatz ist direkt am Haus. Der Strand ist 100m entfernt. Es war alles sehr gut.
- Randi (10/5): - Came to Savannah for our Honeymoon and wanted to spend a night by the beach… picked this place mostly at random and am SO GLAD we did! The property and rooms are cute and unique, with so much more character than your big hotel/motel establishments… but what completely took us by surprise and made the whole journey worthwhile was the inn keeper Rick! He made delicious breakfasts and kept us enthralled and entertained with his stories of his Scottish heritage and artifacts, as well as Savannah history. His service and friendliness was above and beyond, we would gladly come here again just to hear more of his stories! Thank you for helping make our trip so memorable!! ~ Randi and Dale

- Stephen (10/5): - Rick was fantastic. Best breakfast ever and a super cool personal experience.
- Celia (10/5): - The staff is awesome.
- Cheryl (10/5): Great location for pure relaxation. - Excellent full breakfasts. Exceptional, welcoming, informative innkeeper. ‘Make yourself at home’ common area. Not beachfront but a very short walk to it. Bed was super comfortable too. Restaurants on Tybee are beach-fare. The closest The Deck Beach Bar is the best & but one block away. If a relaxing vaca without having to drive everywhere is your idea this is the spot away from the real crowded beach areas.
- Roslyn (8/5): The bed and breakfast was a quiet getaway and would enjoy a return trip. - The breakfast was charming and would pass for a continental style serving. I would have like to have had access to the morning juice once breakfast was over at 10:00am. There was really nothing I didn’t like. I was in vacation mode and enjoyed my stay.
- April (10/5): Our stay was relaxing, enjoyable and extremly pleasant - Quiet, very clean , breakfast homemade every morning. No children , very personable staff. Close to beach. Have nothing negative to say
- Patricia (10/5): Perfection - The AMAZING breakfast every morning!! The afternoon snack was perfect. Having to leave.
- Karen (10/5): Phenomenal - We checked in at the Desoto hotel and were escorted to the B & B by hotel staff. The B and B is a beautiful condo that has 3 guest rooms and a full kitchen available to guests along with 2 common balcony areas, one with a dining area and the other for sitting. There is a dining area where you are greeted by the Innkeeper Rick MacDuff who is from Scotland and wears his klan kilt. The breakfast he and his wife have prepared are all natural ingredients and mostly Scottish influence. Gluten free is used to accommodate most needs. Rick is a scholar of history and teaches local and Scottish history at universities here and in Scotland so shares a vast knowledge of both. Coffee is prepared and ready first thing in the morning and Rick serves breakfast 8:30-10. An added touch is the wine and cheese tray at 5pm each night.
- Pamela (10/5): - I greatly enjoyed my time here and wish I’d had more time to enjoy the inn itself. There are two upstairs “porches”, one with a hammock and the other with rockers. The breakfast is scrumptious and thoughtfully prepared. The inn keeper is friendly, well versed in local and world history, very helpful and responsive to guest requests and needs. The location is great- a couple minutes walk and you’re on a gorgeous stretch of beach looking at the Atlantic. The inn keeper even had coffee ready for me so I could enjoy it while watching the sun rise over the ocean.
- Nicomedes (10/5): Exceptional - Room was beautiful and clean. Rick was amazing! Will definitely be staying again.
- George (10/5): Exceptional - excellent location, excellent host
- Yvonne (3/5): We moved to the Hotel next door. - Location was good.
The patio looked onto a brick wall and there was roof construction going on in the Hotel in front of the B+B. Blocking any chance of a sea view. It would of been nice to of been notified of this.
We checked out of the B+B and stayed at the sister hotel next door. Photographs of the facility were old and need to be taken again. This facility needs some TLC and was very disappointing. It looked like it needed updating and a good clean.
The carpeted dirty patio had moss growing on the full lengh of the carpet. Old painted patio chairs were flaking paint all over the carpet that must have never been cleaned or vaccumed in a long time.
Instructions left not to use the Coffee Maker till the following day. Filthy oven which was left on with cookies inside.
On arrival at the B+B smoke was pouring out of the oven and we had to open one of the patio doors to get rid of the smoke and smell. COOKIES HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE FILTHY OVEN.
The B+B advertised a Professional Host/Manager who was not there for our arrival.
- Miles (8/5): Very good - The host was exceptional with lots of stories about history of the area and Scotland where he’s from. Also made us a great breakfast!
- Jim (10/5): - The B&B was immaculate and host Rick McDuff is truly unique, interesting and a character. Breakfast was wonderful and the Tybee "room, not suite" was awesome.
- Constance (8/5): Great beach location - The bed and breakfast suite needs some updating but the location was great! We had a balcony on our deck which allowed us to watch the water and listen to the water. The carpet in the bathroom vanity area is filthy and needs to be replaced. The room safe didn’t work. The house was 1930’s circa so pretty cool with its history. We had a small fridge with a freezer in our room which was nice too. There is a hotel next door where the pool was and walk out access to the beach. Location was within walking distance to restaurants.
- Kevin (10/5): - Our stay has been excellent. The location is a short walk to the beach. We also walked to shop and eat at local places. Rick is awesome at preparing breakfast and giving his history of the area. We highly recommend the stay and enjoy a relaxing time on the beach.
- Alison (10/5): A great stay on Tybee Island - A wonderful spot to stay on Tybee Island with comfortable rooms, airy porches, direct access to the beach, delicious breakfast and an amazing host
- Kristin- (9/5): Amazing, excellent, fun, and very, very clean!! - Rick, the caretaker, was excellent! So knowledgeable being a historian of the in and of Scotland and of
Savannah. We learned a lot! He recommended restaurants and we were able to eat at one. Again, excellent food! Rick is also an excellent cook and the breakfast that he served both days (different entrees) was AMAZING! We would definitely return there. Thanks Rick, for all that you did for us and all that you told us!!! Kris and Jim The only thing I would say is that the view of the ocean view was a tinch overrated as you see a phone pole and two other buildings that are close together behind the Inn.
- Breshade (5/5): Passable -
- Jenny (10/5): Traditional Inn - The innkeeper, Rick, is a wonderful Scotsman with a wealth of historical knowledge about the inn and the area (and more). He cheerfully greeted us every morning wearing a kilt of his family tartan. Every morning he also lovingly made a wholesome breakfast and made my husband and I feel like family. I wholeheartedly recommend booking the Desoto Bed and Breakfast for a comfortable stay steeped in tradition.
- Marlies (10/5): Exceptional - A few steps away from the beach and very central located.
We had a wonderful one night stay at DeSoto Beach B&B. Our Atlantic Room was perfect for a couple and we could see part of the beach from our room.
Waking up in the morning to the smell of bacon was so inviting. Rick, the Scottish Innkeeper, offered us a gluten free breakfast and his blueberry muffins were the best!
We loved chatting with Rick about the history of Savannah and he gave us all kinds of tips for our next visit.
It was one of the greatest Bed & Breakfast experience we ever had thanks to Rick. Everything was perfect !
- JoAnn (10/5): - This was such a great place to stay right on the beach. It was clean and comfortable. The best part about it was our wonderful host, Rick MacDuff. He made us a wonderful breakfast every day and set out wine and cheese every evening. He told such great stories and was so informative. A really interesting man. He truly made our stay the best experiencewe ever had.
- Catrina (10/5): A place to unwind from the stress - The setup privacy and the inn keeper were amazing
- Julie (10/5): - My daughter and I had the pleasure of spending a night at the charming Desoto Beach Bed and Breakfast on Tybee Island, Georgia. On the morning of our departure, we were treated to an exquisite, home-cooked breakfast featuring all the classics—eggs, bacon, sausage, and more—truly a delightful way to start the day. The bed and breakfast is housed in a historic building, and you can feel the rich energy and character of the place as soon as you step inside.
The highlight of our stay, however, was the innkeeper, Rick. A true Scottish gentleman, Rick even wore a kilt, which initially made me wonder if it was a mere gimmick. But Rick is the real deal—a genuine Scotsman with a passion for history. In fact, he's an adjunct professor at a local college, and we had the pleasure of engaging in an in-depth, two-hour conversation about World War II. His knowledge and enthusiasm for history were captivating.
If you're looking for a relaxing retreat with a touch of historical charm, this is the place to be. I’ll definitely be recommending Desoto Beach Bed and Breakfast to my parents and in-laws, as I’m confident it will exceed their expectations just as it did ours.
- Toni (10/5): - Loved the property, our accommodations were very spacious with a great view. The innskeeper made us a wonderful breakfast and was very knowledgeable about Tybee island, Savanna, and Georgia in general which made for a wonderful and interesting breakfast 😀
- Ronald (7/5): Good -
- Timothy (10/5): Great bed and breakfast. Better than hotel. - Breakfast was superb. Bed was comfortable. Lots of space. Innkeeper was highly educated and very accommodating. Great experience.
- Kanyhuis (9/5): A great place to stay away from the busy city. - He had a hearty breakfast every morning. Rick is an excellent Inn Keeper.
- Marek (10/5): Scotch welcome in Georgia, thanks for very nice stay and wonderful Breakfast. - Everything Nothing
- John (10/5): Rick is an interesting guy. - Peaceful. Special breakfast
- Tarra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phillip (2/5): - WARNING...This property is a SCAM. The pictures and description of the property are completely misleading. We were put in the "honeymoon suite" and it was disgusting. The room has had no updates since the 1970s and the furniture, curtains and carpet were worn out and dirty. We asked to cancel our stay when we saw the room and facilities and they would not. We left anyway. DO NOT STAY HERE!
- Mark (9/5): We will be back! - Rick, the innkeeper is a character, that both educated and entertained about Scottish history and culture. Felt pampered by his stories and excellent cooking. Very old school, a rare find! Bed and pillows were a bit hard. Shower drain was slow, so water pooled a bit.
- Severin (10/5): - Innkeeper and breakfast were very enjoyable.
- Brenda (10/5): Exceptional - The inn keeper was amazing!!! That building that were built after the house completely blocked the view of the Atlantic.
- Bridget (10/5): - We had a lovely stay & are sorry we couldn’t stay more than one night. The BnB is well-appointed & comfortable. The host, Rick, is charming & informative — a great cook & an even better storyteller. Highly recommend. We’ll be back.
- Dennis (10/5): - This was a unique place with a lot of history. It was comfortable like someone’s home although our room (the Butler room) was quite small and did not have a table or any place to set things down.
The very positive aspect of the B&B was the fantastic breakfast prepared by Rick and his knowledge of the history of the area. Well done
- Fausta (10/5): The innkeeper really made my stay special. Between his amazing breakfast and the historical knowledge, he was willing to - It’s a beautiful house, the furniture and the atmosphere are delightful. Nothing
- Trish (10/5): - The Scottish steward of the bed and breakfast was not just welcoming and a great cook, he was amazing!! Super knowledgeable regarding history and local knowledge, a Professor, pilot and chef! The wine and cheese plate was a nice touch at happy hour also, we will definitely be returning one day!
- Dave (10/5): - I've been to other bed breakfast but it was my girlfriends 1st time and she loved it. The room was great. It was nice and quiet, and we could see the ocean from our room. I definitely recommend
- Susan (10/5): - Enjoyed the breakfast and the conversation with the innkeeper! We would definitely stay here again.
- Mr.reginald (10/5): Exceptional - Gerat Nothing not 2 like
- Mark (8/5): The stay was pleasant - The innkeeper Rick was informative and pleasant to talk with. Booking.com misrepresented the property in their description of our room.
- Rob (4/5): - I wish we can get a refund went there with my wife for a 25 year anniversary got their Thursday Friday. The hurricane came. We didn’t have no power Friday and Saturday no places to eat no power just experience in the bed-and-breakfast we had our forced for breakfast we only got two hot meals otherwise it was cereal and milk because of no power it was a big inconvenience. We did not have a car. We couldn’t get hold of the hotel to see where it was safe for us to be during the hurricane and we were trapped on the island for two days with no food or power
- Marco (10/5): - Wonderful clean cozy enviorment. Breakfast was awesome!
- Anthony (10/5): - Inn Keeper Rick was awesome
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Loved it! Cheese & wine at 6 PM, A great breakfast and wonderful, hospitable staff! AAA+++
- Brenda (8/5): Fun Stay on the Beach - Really great location and Rick was the best host you could ask for - he knew everything about the town and made the best breakfasts! We enjoyed the B&B atmosphere of having breakfast with others who quickly became friends. The location is great: a short walk to the incredible beach. Parking was a bit crazy, but probably because of the holiday weekend.
- Tracy (10/5): - The B&B was exactly what was needed for an overnight on Tybee Island, my first visit. It was clean and charming and I very much enjoyed the hospitality of the innkeeper, Rick! He was not only gracious as the host but full of historic insights. The kilt attire as he served a delicious breakfast was wonderfully unexpected for this Scotch-Irish American girl! We’ll be back as my daughter attends SCAD in nearby Savannah.
- Mark (10/5): Awesome - Amazing
- Ales (10/5): Exceptional - Nice staff, gorgeous breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms The sea view is partial, not one of their points of strength. Partially covered from buildings in front
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - The Location was Amazing.and the Breakfast was Exceptional and the Host .Mr Rick was Awesome and very informative. Nothing everything was Great
- Jeannie (10/5): Wonderful get-away! Definitely going back! - The suite was beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! The Scottish host made the entire experience wonderful!
- Prout (10/5): Will be coming back next year. - What can you say; Rick (the innkeeper) is the best and made our stay extremely enjoyable.

- Joe (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): - Rick was an outstanding host and makes the place.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Rick the innkeeper was exceptional. Great breakfast, great conversation and informative about the Savannah area. Maybe a better shade on the window in the sleeping area. The blinds weren’t blackout shades.
- Diane (10/5): - Amazing inn keeper great
- Linda (8/5): - Easy walk to the beach!! Host was wonderful - only 3 rooms so chatted with other guests, shared breakfast together and talked with host. This made the stay fun!
- tpedigo48 (8/5): - Rick was an absolute great host.
The picture on the web is bit misleadings. The Butler County is quite small . If you want a spectacular view of the beach, book the Tybee suite aka the honeymoon suite…
Salutes to Rick….quite a Scotsman …
Ted and Pat. Kentucky lMay 8 th
- Alicia (10/5): A+++. Fantastic stay and excellent choice for solo traveler or couple. - My first trip to Tybee Island so booking online can be a gamble, when you don't know the area. I stayed in the B&B portion of the DeSoto which was really special. It's been a B&B in that exact house and location since 1936. The location on the island was perfect for exploring either end —the south end has a lot of bars, shops and dining while the north end has the historical features and some pretty fabulous restaurants that are highly rated. Being beachfront, the walk to the beach took just a minute. I didn't use the small pool but several guests seemed to be enjoying it. Rick, the Scottish host was phenomenal. He left wine and cheese in the evening, turned on the shared space lights and provided a delicious home-cooked breakfast the next morning. He's also a font of information about the area and also Savannah. There are lots of options to stay on Tybee but for a solo traveler or a couple this place is IDEAL. You can't go wrong. A+++ Not a con at all but I traveled solo, with a carryon so I didn't have a beach towel or ice chest to take down to the beach. There is a souvenir store right across the street to purchase these items. It could be useful to have some extra beach towels on hand for guests but again, in no way is not having them an issue. I was there for one night only so purchasing supplies didn't make sense in my situation.
- Angela (1/5): It was not - The bed was comfortable. The decor was tacky. The place was filthy.
- Shirley (10/5): - Easy walk to the beach, comfortable room, great breakfast, and excellent innkeeper and staff.
- Tim (10/5): Everything you want in a B&B - The Host was amazing he made the stay the greatest he was a excellent cook and a great communicator, we loved his stories
The place was beautiful and well maintained also close to everything, we would recommend this place if you need a place to stay when your in the area.
- Cassandra (10/5): - It was very old school, cozy, and quiet. Housekeeping was amazing and so was breakfast the next morning. He was very kind and understanding and accommodating.
- Linda (10/5): We had so much fun and such a mellow lazy time! - Neat suite on the top floor of the BNB. Balcony looking out between other building to the beach. Older but quaint and charming. Loved our house host! The bed was a little soft.
- Cindy (2/5): - Smelled and not clean.
- Karen (8/5): Very good - The location was great just a short walk to the beach. The staff was good. Rick who ran the bed and breakfast was awesome!
- Alexander (9/5): Perfect location and friendly staff. - Great location right next to beach. Friendly helpful staff and large well equipped comfortable room. Classic design. Easy to find what you need. Great terrace with comfortable chairs.
- Andrew (10/5): - The owner, Rick, told us he hoped our stay at the bed and breakfast would feel like a home away from home. It certainly did! The breakfasts were delicious; the atmosphere, peaceful; the establishment, beautiful and clean. Rick was a delight to meet - knowledgeable, kind, and happy to serve. We recommend this bed and breakfast.
- Sordini (8/5): Very good - MR.Mike was an Exelent human being My room was okay except the
The bathroom could have more space by zinc and toilet area.
- Deborah (10/5): relaxing . excellent inn - excellent
location
- LEE (10/5): - Nice...very quaint B&B...looks like only 3 or 4 rooms...one house back from the beach....walkable to a couple of really good restaurants
- cindy (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful place! Stayed one night in way to Florida! Very clean and comfortable beds!
- Rufus (10/5): - Our host Rick made our stay memorable! A cut above, A across the board! We will return!!!
- Noy (10/5): A little getaway for our anniversary - This is our first time at a bed and breakfast. DeSoto bed and breakfast was cute and quiet. There is only 3 rooms that share the main sitting area. We stayed in the Tybee suite. So we had the entire upstairs with a private balcony to sit and look at the stars at night and see the sun raise and ocean in the morning. Every morning breakfast was served family style and every evening we had wine, cheese, and crackers. Kirby was the person that cooks breakfast for us and she is very friendly and outgoing. The sweetest thing about this place was to hear that the owner has staff bring breakfast to the elderly neighbor who is 98 years old and lives across the street every day!
- Jean (10/5): Really nice BNB to break up our long drive. - We felt like we were home. We chatted with the two other guests and really enjoyed it. The stairs were hard on my husband but the staff was right there to help with luggage. And the tv was hung high up on the wall. That’s always uncomfortable for me but I see there really was no other place for it.
- Jennifer (10/5): The girl who prepared breakfast was an absolute sweetheart!! -
- Ann (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay! Very quaint, very clean! As indicated in the advertisement we were to have someone there to greet us at check in- there was not..we went next door to check in as told to us by others in the courtyard at the time.. Breakfast was supposed to be from 830-10.. breakfast was being prepared at 7am- noisy for those staying in the Butler Room that may want to sleep in.. breakfast was on the table promptly at 830.. would not have been able to have breakfast later than that.. we did enjoy our time but just a couple of points that may upset some guests
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeannine (6/5): Great location, difficult nights sleep. - Inn keeper was fabulous. The room though was eh. Very hot and the closet floor was wet and smelled weird. The lights are on in the house all night so it was super bright. Made for a hard nights sleep.
Location is great for a walk on the beach though!
