Guest Reviews
- Carol (10/5): Friendly place - Friendly helpful staff, comfortable room, good breakfast, had a good time
- Nadya (10/5): - Very easy and quick check in, the staff where very helpful to let me leave my luggage in the morning. Overall it was very good experience.
- Russ (10/5): Happy to Stay again - Very Clean and Friendly Hotel, Bed was very comfortable.
Staff worked hard and cleaned all rooms
nothing negative to say- good staff would come back again.
- Ciaran (8/5): Pleasant stay - Friendly and helpful service. Comfortable enough room, a little loud due to the road. Perhaps a bit pricier than you would expect to pay in other locations, but I don't think there's much competition in St Austell.
- William (10/5): - Great welcome, service and friendliness, assistance and quality through. Their contact details logged for future visits to Cornwel. Highly recommend for low cost stay.
- David (10/5): - No bad points, fresh quality breakfast. Adelaide is friendly & can’t help enough. Room is more like a hotel room than a B&B. Excellent value for money.
- Teresa (8/5): - Very nicely decorated and furnished. Comfy beds.
Great staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice pub hotel - Decent hotel above a nice pub about 20 minutes' walk from St Austell train station.
- paul (8/5): Strange but perfectly adequate room. - Strange twin room with a shower cubicle in the corner of the room! I had a bath in the shared facilities which was very nice. Also, one of the biscuit packets was open!! Staff good and let us bring our takeaway back and eat it in the pub.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff very friendly and breakfast was value for money
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great staff,on site parking,shops only a few min walk.
- Ben (10/5): - Really comfortable bed, and very helpful polite staff, can’t ask for more really
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice public house, kept clean good car park asda only five min walk shop and takeaways across road, shared toilet which is clean and close to rooms would recommend will be going back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its easy to find with ample parking. The staff are friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was clean and comfy. It is basic but it is pub accommodation. Had everything we needed for an overnight stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location very near to where i wanted to be lovely place to stay
- Leslie (8/5): Great location. - Two night stay to visit The Eden Project. The staff were great, breakfast was very good. No problem with the room I was in, it had all I expected. The hotel is tired in the hallways and stairs, a lot of stairs. Good location, free parking and wi fi.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very friendly staff, very good breakfast, location good for our needs.
- Kavitha (8/5): - Clean budget hotel, ideal for visiting Charlestown and the Eden Project. Friendly staff, decent breakfast and convenient location. Our rooms faced the road so it was a bit noisy with traffic, so if this is not an issue, then the rooms are perfectly adequate.
- Philip (8/5): One night stay - Ok for a one night stay, shared bathroom but bath is HUGE!! Shower in room. Floors bit wonky !!!!! Overall it's fine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Over all it was a nice stay but the cleanliness of the room was not graet dust everywhere and used empty bottles in shower from last guest. Good breakfast and pleasant service.
- Helen (6/5): - Quiet pub. Reasonable rates. Friendly staff. Close to convenience stor
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was ok
- Gemma (10/5): - Very welcoming. Would definately visit again. Good breakfast and great service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel close to the centre - Good breakfast, clean and tidy room helpful staff
- darren (2/5): horrid - Due to work I stay in hotels on a regular basis, I have to say this was probably the worst I have stayed in!! I cannot believe the price justified. The shower was so dirty that I had to purchase bleach from asda and cleaned it myself. To make matters worse the shower ran cold only due to a pressure issue (as identified on the control unit) certainly not expected from an electric shower. I also purchased my own cup to have a cup of tea since those in the room were also filthy and clearly had not been washed for some time. there was a thick layer of dust on the kettle which I had to clean before use. After eventually being able to relax I switched the on TV only to discover it didn't work! Wifi, your lucky if you get 10 minutes consecutive use before having to reconnect. not ideal for a businessman! Breakfast was only available from 8.30 - 9.30 which is not suitable for business stay. the bed is no more than 6inches of the floor although comfy when in it its not the easiest to get in/out of. New lamp shades and cushions can not hide the defects. After a 6 hour drive, I'd preferred to have turned round and gone back home! refund being requested.
- Steve (10/5): Fantastic - Always excellent
- Curtis (8/5): Good place to stay for a short visit. - I stayed only one night as I had business to do in St Austell. It was a bit of a hike to get from the establishment to the centre of town. I could not find out about buses but saw them going one way only and this away from town. I do not drive and will not pay taxi prices. Very well looked after room and the pub noise underneath stopped at a reasonable hour. There were a few local shops opposite. The establishment served its purpose very well, the only drawback for me was the distance between it and the centre of town as I do not drive. Good selection of food for the breakfast, catering for vegetarians.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We stayed 3 nights and were made welcome and were well looked after. There was limited choice at breakfast but the full English was well cooked and fresh. The room was comfortable and clean.
- Povl (6/5): - The hosts had only taken over 10 weeks ago and found some surprises they were eager to fix. A great place for the money.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Luidruchtig - Het hotel ligt aan een drukke straat, hierdoor was het erg luidruchtig in de kamer.
Full English breakfast was goed, en ook de service van het personeel (heel vriendelijk).
- Vimala (8/5): clean and friendly - comfortable stay except the noise on the road from the traffic.
- John (4/5): Creaky doors. - The door creaked loudly. The breakfast was ok. Not 3 stars. The whole place needs updating. Look up at the ceiling in room 4. No where to hang a wet towel. Won't go back.
- Tom (6/5): Good B&B close to Eden Project - Good price for a clean room, with breakfast, friendly staff, parking available
- Julie (8/5): Short break - We had a lovely couple of days.Everyone was very friendly. The room was very spacious and clean with a large bathroom with large shower.Full English Breakfast was more than enough to last the day but evening meals are a little hit and miss due to new management still finding their feet, but what was available was very nice.We will definitely stay here again.
- Mrs Francina S (8/5): - It would be great if the windows could be double glazed as we had difficulty to sleep because of the noise.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient if you're going to the Eden project - Friendly staff, food was good, good stay overall. Room was on the small side, you wouldn't want to stay there for longer than a couple of days.
- Helen (10/5): Best ever! - Friendly staff, huge attractive room and very large bathroom all in similar elegant style. Loved staying there and will definitely return.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Unpleasant - On arrival we found out that no evening meals were available as promised on the website & we had to walk over a mile to find a restaurant. Upstairs wasn't clean & there was an awful smell. The room was totally unfit for purpose (holiday letting.)
We are dissatisfied that you have places like this on your website. We tried to cancel both at the hotel & by telephone to yourselves. Your staff repeatedly promised to call us back with a solution but failed to do so. I am formally requesting a full refund of £200. Should this not be forthcoming I will find it necessary to contact the financial ombudsman.we were compelled to find alternative accommodation (with evening meals ) & fortunately enjoyed the rest of our stay in Cornwall
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basically it's a pub with rooms - The staff were friendly and the level of service was quite good, the management were a little less welcoming, you won't have to worry about putting on weight from the breakfast,on the first breakfast only brown sugar available for tea this was not rectified for second breakfast of a two night stay even after requesting white sugar minor point I know, in summary acceptable if stuck but would not be first choice
- Verified traveler (8/5): NICE STAY - We had a pleasant and comfortable stay in this hotel. The staff (especially the manager) were very friendly and helpful. The location is also great. It is just a 15-minute walk to Charlestown and the beach and a 20-minute walk to the train station. A bank, a take-away and a pharmacy is just in front of it.
- mark (8/5): Cup of tea - Is the first time I stayed in a bed and breakfast so I may not be fair my rating as I am more used to an American chain hotel. The people were friendly and everything was decent just not my Cup of tea
- Sharon (10/5): Excellent - From arrival to departure the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. The room was very clean and tidy.
Dinner and Breakfast were delicious.
Would definitely stay again.
- Lesley (6/5): Expensive pub room - While Andy was very helpful the room itself was poor considering we paid £99 for one night! There was a sky box and TV but no connecting cable or TV remote. Single glazed windows meant we could hear the road traffic through the night as well the beeping pedestrian crossing outside. We hoped the breakfast might make up for the poor nights sleep but it didn't! I asked for no beans or egg, my plate had one sausage, one bacon, two hash browns and a couple of mushrooms, I had hoped they would try to substitute the items I didn't want. We left as soon as we could, tired and hungry!
- Roger, Sue (6/5): low price, low cost, late booking, met our needs - windows difficult to open. Wooden toilet seat not very hygienic for shared usage. Double glazing might be an advantage.
- John (4/5): Needs Maintenance - My Fiancée and I stayed here after our visit to the Eden Project.
The Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was nice. .. However everything in the room was a little bit broken.
For example , the toilet made a terrible noise for at least 10 minutes after flushing the chain.
One of the lights did not work and the whole tap would turn when you turned the tap on and the free wi-fi did not work.
- Sasha & Mike (10/5): Lovely hotel with friendly staff - We stayed at the Duke of Cornwall for a week. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was lovely and clean. Also a big thumbs up to the cook - everything we tried from the pub's kitchen was delicious! Highly recommended. Town centre and the bus station are about 15-20 minutes' walk away, 15 minutes away in the other direction is Charlestown with its little harbour and a few pubs. It's really worth visiting Porthpean beach too - the coastal walk from Charlestown harbour is very pretty, or you can go straight down Porthpean Rd from the hotel.
- Rob (10/5): Overnight Stop - Great little hotel/Pub. Very accommodating asnd friendly. Good service and breakfast. Really enjoyed it!
