Guest Reviews
- Ami (8/5): - Easy walk to food and nice and quiet area.
- Eugene (10/5): - Freliendlt staff
- M E (10/5): Great Value Hotel in Good Location - Great value hotel located close to shops and restaurants and a short taxi ride from the Sultan’s Palace, Water Castle etc.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast and food in general all very good.
We did a tour to Borobudur and Prambanan Temples through the hotel and our driver, Mudi, was excellent. Very safe and always had cold water waiting for us after each visit.
- Kyle (10/5): - Great property and location - the pool was wonderful and the breakfast was outstanding.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Solid, affordable hotel option in a great location - In a more westernised area of jogja (which may be a welcomed break if you’ve travelled around Java) it’s a robust hotel offering vs more casual home stay options that is really affordable and a clean safe place to sleep. Breakfast spread is varied though the room gets quite hot and tends to be packed. I was sad to see the rooftop area not really be utilised despite the gallery of artwork. The rooftop bar was out of action and it was sweltering in the heat. There’s a small basic gym but does have AC which isn’t always the case. The rooms are basic and clean, and no bugs (at least for me) which was a luxury as the geckos and mosquitoes are everywhere.
- serge (10/5): - great hotel. very relaxing ,great staff, dining room staff friendly, smiling ,ready to help you, reception was also a plus , thank you,
- Glen (10/5): - Great location.
Very nice pool area. Wonderful breakfast included.
- HANS (10/5): - Nice hotel with great pool and dining room. Best breakfast choice with something for every nationality. Need transport to get to the main shopping area but can walk to local shops.Plenty of dining options nearby.
- lung (10/5): - Love the hotel. It's affordable, clean and the room is very comfortable. The buffet breakfast has a lot of variety and the food was great. Easy to get a Grab from this hotel to anywhere in Yogjakarta.
- Jillian (10/5): - The room was a good size with a balcony. It was clean and had everythng we needed. Bed was comfy and bathroom good size. Breakfast was nice with a good range of food. The gym had a good enough range of equipment. The staff were very friendly. The location was good. Its about a 25 minute walk to Malioboro Street, and the next street along from the hotel had a great reange of dining options.
- Dipesh (8/5): - Good hotel and location for a short stay. Staff are really friendly. Some areas could do with a refresh and more effort made to inform of neighbourhood options.
- Dennis (8/5): Gallery - Great variety of delicious dishes at breakfast.
Excellent pool, good for doing laps.
Particularly busy on the weekends
- Darren (10/5): - Spacious room with a balcony. Functional bathroom and wardrobe. Cons are that the shower head had such poor water pressure that we always had to use the rain shower. The fridge was also not cold at all. The aircon also had some issue where it felt so warm even when we adjusted the temperature lower; some mornings we woke up sweating! Also, the TV was tiny and had limited channels. The best part of the hotel was the location - just a short walk away from the street with the popular eateries and cafes. Hotel buffet breakfast was alright, but I would have preferred to save money by eating breakfast at the eateries around instead.
- Sundeep (8/5): - .
- Philip (10/5): - A beautiful hotel in Yogyakarta, really exceptional for the price. The rooms are large and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pool area is also really nice, and can become quite busy later in the afternoon, when everyone has finished their sightseeing for the day.
We loved all the Indonesian choices for breakfast, but there is western food too. The lunch and dinner menu is also varied and delicious, and the portions are huge.
Prawirotaman is a great little area with lots of cafes and restaurants, although you’ll need some type of transport to get to the Malioboro street, where all the evening action is.
If we’re ever back in Jogja, we won’t even consider staying anywhere else.
- Emma (8/5): - Excellent location. Breakfast buffet was very good, great opportunity to try local dishes. Pool area is beautiful and picturesque. AC was questionable, not very strong. We also did laundry here and the cost was a little crazy. Overall we had a great time but some things could have been improved.
- Reza (10/5): - This 4 star hotel is good place to stay with very friendly sraff and enjoyable ambience.
- Simon (10/5): YOGYAKARTA FEBRUARY 2020 - Really nice hotel and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Excellent outdoor pool.
Great value for money
- Nico (8/5): - The poor view was amazing and breakfast was tasty
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Conform to description.. Ideally located with area of commerce and bars
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice staff, good food. Fairly old building, furnitures are scratched. Pool is not too clean.
- Patrice (4/5): Average - Just average with a terrible breakfast .
- Rahim (6/5): I don’t know why the tarn the AC off in lobby - Wifi is not working there in room big problems always
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staffs are very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed my 5 days stay there and will return back again!:)
- Jenny (10/5): - Nice hotel, very good
- Kathrine (8/5): - Good location for restaurants of many varieties; with a little alleyway enabling you to access the restaurant street easily.
Staff were friendly and helpful; breakfast was good though not outstanding
- Ronald (8/5): - The beds are verry good vleaning good prrsonel exellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - The hotel location is perfect as it it close to other amenities like restaurants, convenience store and souvenir shops.
The staff are very polite
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice hotel - Friendly Staff, but sometimes to much loud chatting on the floor.
- David (10/5): - Didn’t know what to expect for such a reasonably priced hotel but was pleasantly surprised. Starts with a staff that is very friendly and attentive. Room and beddings clean. Good asssortment of international tv. Great buffet breakfast. One of best values I have had with hotel in years
- Joshua (10/5): Good hotel - The room was excellent. The shower had good water pressure and the air con was very good. The hotel is in walking distance from lots of eateries and bars.
- Chan (10/5): - Staffs very nice and friendly, food delicious and good service.
- Rebecca (10/5): Very comfortable stay - Nice hotel, refreshing pool, decent food, friendly n helpful staff.
- Susan (10/5): Close to everything. - Lovely hotel. Clean, good bed linen and amenities. Breakfast mainly good Asian offerings, and good egg station, pastry selection. Pool clean and open from 6am till 9 pm. Pool accessible by ladder only. Lovely art gallery within hotel. Tours from desk inexpensive when considering good English speaking drivers, and comfortable well kept cars. Front desk always friendly and helpful. Area great, good laundry across road. Shortcuts to parallel streets make exploring easy. Great street art close by. Good food, good coffee, with cheap prices, all short walk away. Tip ask for room not overlooking car park. Some ground floor rooms available, overlooking pool. Some upper rooms accessed by lift. Some others by stair. We would happily recommend.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall a pleasant stay. One towel was slightly musty and the toiletries were not replaced each day unless a request was made. However, the beds were comfortable. The breakfast selection was varied and tasty. Easy getting around using Grabcar (far cheaper than taxi).
- abdul khaliq (8/5): Very great location - It was very nice and clean hotel, nice breakfast buffet, great swimming pool
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wifi doesn't work and a lot of ants - Wifi didn't work at all. Big ants and small ants were walking around in the room. Location is good. Good street art around.
- dom (8/5): great stay - Great location. The staff tried very hard and were helpful. Would stay there again
- Francis (10/5): Good choice, safe pick... - Very good ratio price quality. Location is a little outside of Malioboro but there are a few bars and resto nearby to pick from. All the staff speak very good English and will most likely do everything they can to help. If you want to send a few postcards you also can do so straight from the hotel.
- Jenny (8/5): Nice hotel within taxi or Becak of tourist area - Stayed here for a week to visit the Borobudur and Prambanan temples and sites in Jogja.
Travelled by Becak around the city. Hired driver and car for temples.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent Hotel - Excellent property. neat and clean room. very helpful and kind staffs. Good breakfast.
- Stephanie (10/5): Perfect 3-day stay - Very good location, friendly and helpful staff, big and modern rooms! The swimming pool was nice as well for some relaxing after our visits to the temples and city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very comfortable - We had everything we needed. The staff was more than helpful and the food was good too.
- CL (10/5): Comfortable hotel with a god breakfast spread - Hotel is in the city centre but not walkable to Malioboro street. Taxis are very affordable there though, so distance is not a problem. The pool is decent size for a short swim. There are both Indonesian and continental food for the breakfast buffet.
- Jean-Frederic (10/5): Great place to stay and relax - Everything was perfect. Clean room, walkable to so many places, pool is nice.
Definitely recommend that hotel for your stay in Yogyakarta.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 4-star hotel just outside of Malioboro - The hotel was located in a quaint area just right outside Malioboro (15mins drive). The street in front had stretches of good restaurants, bars and cafes while the street behind had many art/leather/batik workshops. The area was quiet at night and you could use the pool/gym 24hours. We took Uber during our trips and all the drivers had no problem navigating their way when you tell them to Gallery Hotel.
The only disappointment is when we went for our sunrise tour to Borobudur, we were told that we could request for take-away breakfast which we requested to be prepared at 3:30am the next day. However, we only managed to get 2 American breakfasts at 3:45am and had to leave for the tour. There were 4 of us.
My room was facing the pool, but it was quiet even during the day. It was located on the third floor with no lift but somehow ants kept appearing in my toilet. My friend's room was located on the fourth floor on another block with lift and didn't have any problems.
Breakfast was ok, but I would rather eat at the cafes at the next street. There's a shortcut through an alley to the next street right in front of the hotel.
Overall, I would choose to stay in the same hotel next time due to the convience and good value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): awesome food, super friendly staff!! - awesome food, super friendly staff, great location, very good service and superb!!
- Agnes (6/5): Convenient location - There are stain on bedsheet. Room service staff is willing to help and change it. Overall experience is good.
The pool side is clean and comfortable.
The staff recommended a nearby Indonesian restaurant within walking distance.
- YEW SEE (8/5): Art Jog 2017 trip - It was ok overall, but very disappointed with the wifi service. Not only you're logged out every few minutes but the line was so slow that you could hardly download anything. We chose this hotel partly because of its location, near to some nice cafes and distance to our meeting places.
- mike tomo (8/5): very good value - enjoyed our stay. decent enough gym and pool. good breakfast, comfy room.
- KO (8/5): Nice Hotel, good location. - Nice hotel, Not my idea of 4.3 Star as shower was grubby, dirty grout. Otherwise it was fine.
- Dani (10/5): Great hotel in a convenient location - Excellent service, good food & friendly staff. We had a wonderful experience staying here!
- Sumanta (10/5): Five star experience at a non five star price - Excellent amenities, an awesome restaurant and helpful and friendly staff make the hotel exceptional, even though it is located on a less happening street of Prawirotaman. However, its location is not really a deal breaker - the bustling parallel street where all the bars and restaurants are is just a short walk away. Also there is easy availability of the local tuk tuks in front of the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): good - nice
- Claire (10/5): Lovely hotel with great facilities. - Rooms were spacious and clean, pool was a good size and very clean. Room service was an added bonus though arrived a little cold. Very convenient location close to main sights and lots of good eateries. Staff were very pleasant and most spoke very good English. spa facilities also good and reasonably priced, enjoyed a lovely massage!
- Jules (10/5): Great stay - Great location, staff speak good English. The breakfast selection was nice.
The gym is small but it has what you need.
- LIM (8/5): nil - Amazing with the service, breakfast and convenient to places.
- Andrew (8/5): needs tidying up, wifi - pleasant
- Richard (6/5): reasonably good - Good: polite, location great. Nice pool area (watch for the insect bites), OK breakfast, good price.
Poor: No complimentary use of room after check out waiting for train, not enough seating in reception, not enough tea/coffee in room
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good breakfast and clean - Negative- Gave us a terrible room and had to talk for 15 minutes with the receptionist before she agreed and changed.Felt like she took us for a fool.
Also the hotel is a little old.
Positive-Clean and good breakfast
- Globalfellow (10/5): Great hotel good price - Very comfortable clean and pleasant room. Not much difference between Deluxe and Superior room.
- Coral (10/5): Modern Hotel in Great Location - There is a shortcut to Jl Prawirotoman 1 just opposite that saves time & is safe to go to restaurants. Enjoyed brekky. Staff prompt in helping. Only had top sheet on bed but staff quickly provided another when requested. Recommend seeing Ramayana ballet at Prambanam Temple but suggest confirming transport as we got missed from the pickup list but hotel staff sorted out with transport & got there in time. Hotel arranged taxi to airport for us. We used motorised bechak into Jl Malioboro / Kraton etc 20,000 idr for 2 of us - we were happy with that as it saved walking
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice hotel and most taxi drivers know about it - nice hotel and most taxi drivers know about it. I had to catch an early flight and leave at 5:30am local time and I was surprised that the hotel even offered a takeaway for breakfast at this early time. It is near the airport (30mins drive with less than 10,000IRD) and in town. Staff speak English well and room is clean and tidy.
- JT (8/5): Close to food selections - The hotel was pleasant, swimming pool was clean, room & amenities were great! Hotel staff were polite, eager to help when asked for suggestions on what to do.
Internet was a little intermittent & slow but it's ok.
In the next alley, you can find a stretch of cafes and restaurants which makes getting food accessible.
- Ian David (8/5): Great Hotel - Great hotel, close to the bars and plenty of restaurants, nice pool, Staff are very friendly,I will stay again in the future.
- E Darrell (10/5): Love this hotel - Great hotel in the best area for tourists in Jogja.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location - The staff were helpful and friendly. The room is clean and from our balcony had a good view of the town and the surrounding hills. The hotel is situated close to cafes and restaurants which is across the next street, a 5 minute walk. Will definitely be back to Prawirotaman Hotel.
- Ashley (10/5): I'd go back! - A really good value for money hotel. Air luxurious in the best part of town. Tours are available locally as are the best restaurants and bars.
- Don (10/5): A very comfortable experience. - In Room massage was fantastic! The breakfasts were good. The wifi was great!
- Ichsan (8/5): Quality hotel within walking distance of many use - Staff was really great, helpful and accommodating with any and all of our needs. Good breakfast and never over crowded or rushed. Was a little bit surprised the hotel was totally non-smoking even though we had a lovely balcony which I thought would accommodate smoking. But all in all I would highly recommend.
- Maria (10/5): - We will come back
- YEW SEE (8/5): G hotel review pretty good - It was nice hotel to stay except for the wifi which I can't get while in my room and have to stay at the balcony in order to get wifi. My main complaint and the room gets wet when it rain, the staff have to put few floor mats at the balcony to prevent rain getting into the room. staff are friendly though. Breakfast was not too good though, maybe can have more western food choices instead of the local Indonesian food.
- mohamed faisal (10/5): Nice hotel to stay - One of the best. Friendly staff, environment is good, value for money.
- ROY (8/5): Fantastic 2nd time at Gallery Prawirotama Hotel - This is my 2nd time staying at this wonderful hotel. It has all the Western amenities needed and the price is very reasonable, especially though hotelsdotcom, I found the best price. Fantastic breakfast every morning buffet style, from Indonesian to Continental to an omelette station, fruit juices, fruits, and so much more. You will not be disappointed choosing this hotel.
- ROY (8/5): A Gem of a Hotel - This is my 2nd time staying at this hotel. I enjoyed it the 1st time and the hotel did not disappoint. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, they even made us breakfast to go since we had to leave the hotel at 5:30 am to catch a flight. Breakfast included has quite a variety of Indonesian food/snacks/tropical drinks as well as International options, i.e. donuts, wheat and white bread, fruits, croissant, and there is an omelette station outside the building where you can have your own customized omelette. All in all, I would stay here again next time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great, quiet location! - We had an amazing time in Jogja! We explored the city on Becak, and went to cool little Wayung making places, and batik painting showrooms. We went for a stroll down the main strip of Jogja and ate some street food. However we did get hassled alot down this strip. But worth seeing. We organised a cooking class, and then went and had dessert in the city, which was traditional Jogja desserts. We visited Prambanan temple, which was expensive, but very interesting to see. We also organised a Borobuder tour, which was absolutely amazing! Worth every second and cent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel with great food, service and a spa! - The front office staff are very polite and courteous. They are super helpful with guiding on tours and booking with no real ulterior motives. Restaurant is excellent with local fare and international options. Spa was a heaven on earth. Don't bother trying things outside, everything inside the hotel is the best. Be it tours booking, food and massage. I stayed for 3 nights.
- Arien (10/5): Gallery Prawirotaman "does" the services perfectly - We stayed for 3 days 2 nights at this hotel and found a bunch of happiness. we were honeymooning and had a really full trips around yogyakarta and gallery prawirotaman provides everything they have for relieving fatigue and exhausted. my wife said the massage service was pleasurable. and one more to go, the staffs were very helpfull on preparation of my little surprise for my wife. Great!
- wayne (2/5): worst sleep and worst room service - bad time bed hard as a rock we had thee best room the suite they say mountain views no mountain views only view was back street entrance to hotel and the houses behind the street, light was coming through around the blinds so was wakening up at 6 am each morning room service terrible alot of things they did not have on the menu buffet breakfast not alot to chose from had 1 ceral to chose cornflakes the had a 4 slice toaster did not work properly only cook 1 side of the toast had aircon in the resturaunt but was either off or turn on low because was hot inside they had the old fashion metal urns full of coffee and another with tea help yourself they really do not cater for the western tourist more for the local or asian tourist, air con in room was good but is not really a suite in 4 and 5 star hotels in java i have stayed before they are good sixe with seperate living and sleeping area they put a couch in this room and a small desk and chair call it a suite,1 television normal size so to small to watch at night or in the morning from bed because to far away and also had the couch in front of the hard bed we slept on,the room look great but was not a suite 1 television 1 phone no views rock hard bed light waking us up because blinds have sun coming in around them worst room service
- James (10/5): Not a single complaint - I had a superior room with balcony overlooking the pool. The hotel was clean, friendly and very helpful. It is a good area for restaurants, but a ways from the center of the city. There are several little shops in the area. The breakfast was good. I would return to the hotel again.
- Jon B. (2/5): Disaster - We arrived at the hotel at 6pm from the USA... tired and ready for a sleep. They had no rooms for us because they were full. No one let me know before we left the USA so we could arrange anothe rhotel. They put us into a very inferior hotel instead and that was it... just walked away. Outrageous because at least move your guests into a better hotel and not one that is poor.
- Yen (10/5): Good out of town hotel - Great hotel but the location is out of town
- William (10/5): Great place to stay! - The staff was very helpful with planning day tours and making our stay comfortable.
- Chong Jin (10/5): Great hotel to stay in Jogya! - Great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - hotel was great value for money and the pool is nice and relaxed after a warm day at the temples. breakfast is a bit less however, lunch and dinner are good. staff is very helpful and friendly, especially concerning kids
- Tizzyelle (8/5): A pleasant hotel in a convenient location. - They helped us organise a car and driver to take us to Semarang Airport as well as booking us on the Sunrise Borobudur trip. The staff are all friendly and helpful and everything is dealt with in a swift and efficient manner. The garden and pool area is lovely and well maintained.
Due to early morning starts we had three evening meals in the hotel restaurant. The food was very tasty although there was a very long wait, especially between courses. Normally, this is fine when you are on holiday and relaxing but we needed to get to bed early and found it a little frustrating.
The room was great and included a balcony. The huge king bed was very comfortable. The shower was brilliant (Deluxe room).
The hotel is located just a short taxi ride from the Kraton, Taman Sari and Jl Malioboro.
- lollipopf (8/5): Beautiful hotel close to restaurants - The hotel was beautiful, the pool was decent size and there was table service. Room was spacious, air con good. Hairdryer was weak and wifi wasn't that strong either, but ok. Staff friendly, breakfast was good with variety.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent hotel, good food. will stay again!! - We stayed for 4 days at the hotel. We thought it was excellent and the pricing was worth it. It was clean and the staff were very polite and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and of a good variety. The hotel food in general was of a higher standard than any of the restaurants we tried around Prawirotaman. For our sunrise tour to Borobudur, when we had to leave at 4am, the hotel was kind enough to make us a bento with a choice of western or Indonesian. It was a good touch as we got to enjoy our breakky while watching the sun come up on a hill overlooking the majestic candi.
The rooms were clean and even though we did not get the room we wanted overlooking the mountains, its was pleasant and quiet. We did hear the prayer calls but it added to the experience in a positive way.
The pool was nice and clean.
- Peter (10/5): Comfortable and Clean - Clean and comfortable room. Friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast spread can be improved but generally ok. It is a bit far from Maliboro. However there are some pretty good eateries in the next lane accessible via an alley.
It has a spa on level 5. More expensive than outside but its setting is much better and massage was good. Only offer Java massage and SPA.
It has a decent sized pool to relax after all the sigthseeing.
- Jackie (10/5): Surprising find in Yogyakarta! - Delightful hotel tucked away in a local neighborhood. Walking into the lobby, you're immediately struck by the beautiful pool area and the smiles of the friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms were immaculate and comfortably decked out. Beds were cushy, bathroom had a terrific rain head shower and the room had a balcony with furniture. The restaurant served an included breakfast with both western and Asian offerings. Would definitely stay again.
- Maria (8/5): very good hotel! - Very nice hotel with helpful staff and central area. Would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Confortable stay - Comfortable room and helpful staff but location wise...I don't think you can walk to the shopping district...supermarkets and local eateries only possible.
- emily (8/5): Comfortable Hotel - Pros - Comfortable, very friendly & helpful staff, and spa gave great massages
Cons - Thin walls & average breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfectly located hotel, away from the business of the city, but closely enough to still be able to walk to go to restaurants and other places.
- Bruce (10/5): Lovely hotel in a great location - The hotel staff really made this a great stay. They were friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We also met the general manager of the hotel who told us about how the hotel was investing in it's staff giving them training including English lessons. Great example of developing their people. Everything was spotless. We can only praise the hotel. Nothing to fault for us.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommended! - Love it!!!
The room are nice and clean
The service is also great!
And it's near to the city center
Very recommended!
- Kathleen H (10/5): Superior in every way - They were very attentive to all of our needs including the taxis, restaurants, just everything to make us as comfortable as they could. I think it was a facility where they were training young people in the hotel industry so there were many to service us.
- Carmen (8/5): Helpful staff made all the difference - Upon arrival late at night, we couldn’t believe a nice, big hotel could be located down this dark and narrow alleyway, but finally, there it was – a glowing apparition rose before us!
The breakfast buffet offered an unlimited selection of excellent Asian and Western fare to start the day.
Later, the huge swimming pool was so refreshing when we came back hot and exhausted, after a day exploring Yogyakarta’s sweltering streets.
Best of all was the incredibly helpful staff. They were all great, but the manager led by shining example. He spent a great deal of time helping us contact our bank back in Canada, when we had a serious banking issue. We will be forever grateful to him!
- Wendy (10/5): Gem of a hotel in a Gem of a City - Wonderful gem of a hotel on a side street close to major sites and shopping. Beautiful room with nice balcony. Fabulous pool. Staff is lovely, friendly, and attentive. Breakfast is fresh, with many Indonesia and American/European food choices. The kitchen staff accommodates special dietary needs and request. Room service is prompt and cheerful. Laundry is returned quickly and perfectly done.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very happy I stayed here!!! - The hotel is very nice, the installations were also nice although they seemed to have some problems cleaning the pool. The rooms were clean, spacious, comfortable and at a good price. The breakfast buffet was ok, as well as the food in general. The staff were incredible nice and helpful. What made my stay so good was that the hotel provides a doctor in case you need one. Unfortunately, I got very sick one day with food poisoning and had to call the doctor at midnight. The staff were very helpful to get the doctor and it really saved me a trip to the hospital and got better a lot quicker as the doctor provided me with the antibiotics, etc.
