- Charles (7/5): - Hotel needs renovated it's old and tired Street noise hard bed
- Jack (1/5): -
- Adrian (7/5): Hotel was fair for the price.,close to public transport and supermarket s but watch out for zombies - Hotel was close to buses and supermarkets Shower pressure was weak,
- Mitchel (8/5): -
- Cortland (5/5): - it was a room its old and smells weird af in there. dirty room - lint and debris in my sheets, crushed beer can behind my bed. kind of a mid area of town. just pay the exrta 50 for a nicer place
- Pugacheva (3/5): Appreciate great staff! - Great staff Noisy event, dangerous area.
- mohammad (1/5): - Location.no parking, no elevator, no microwave. Small.
- Phebe (9/5): - The room was clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Good location
- AndiiDawn (6/5): Super good location but lacks character. - Love the location for the walkability. The staff were super lovely. Room was very loud with street noise and adjacent room. I found the room very cold and unwelcoming. Could use some art and personality.
- mondia (4/5): -
- Bonagoni (8/5): Gemini said The Waldorf offers a high-energy, retro vibe and a great location for the brewery scene, - The Room
The "vintage" vibe is definitely the draw here, but the rooms feel more like a step back in time than a modern luxury stay. While the decor is unique and full of character, the lower-level rooms can feel a bit cramped, especially with the lower ceiling heights common in older Vancouver buildings. If you are on the taller side, you might find the clearance a bit tight.
The Bed
The bed was comfortable enough for a short stay, though the linens and pillows felt fairly standard for a budget-friendly boutique hotel. It’s a solid spot if you just need a place to crash after enjoying the hotel's famous Tiki bar, but don't expect a high-end resort sleep.
The Location
Located in East Vancouver, the Waldorf is in a gritty, industrial-chic area. It’s perfect if you want to explore the local craft brewery scene or catch a live show downstairs. However, it is a bit of a trek to the main downtown tourist core, so plan on using ride-shares or transit to get to the Waterfront or Stanley Park. Height & Space Issues: For a taller person (like yourself at 6'0"), the Waldorf can be a bit of a literal headache. The building is older, and some rooms—particularly the budget or lower-level ones—have noticeably low ceilings and cramped layouts. It's the kind of place where you might feel like you're dodging a low-hanging light fixture or a doorway.
The "Gritty" Surroundings: While the hotel itself has a cool, secure setup, it's located on a stretch of East Hastings that can feel "sketchy" or "rough" to some visitors. If you aren't used to an industrial, downtown-eastside environment, the immediate area outside the hotel might feel a bit uncomfortable at night.
Noise Levels: Since the hotel is famous for its nightclub and Tiki bar, noise is a frequent issue. If you're staying on a weekend or in one of the "Youth Traveler" rooms, you'll likely hear the thumping bass from downstairs or traffic from the busy street.
Lack of Modern Amenities: It’s a true budget-boutique experience. This means no elevators (you'll be hauling bags up stairs), no central air conditioning in many rooms, and some guests have reported issues with older plumbing (like inconsistent shower temperatures) and squeaky beds.
- SANDEEP (4/5): -
- Miho (3/5): -
- Mccann (3/5): - The shower was unusable as the cold didn't work. I could stand at the end of the bed and touch the wall. There were no plug-ins in the room just an overloaded powerbar. The bed squeaked so loud every time you moved that any intimacy was completely out of the question. When telling the staff they did nothing.
- marie eve (4/5): -
- Malie (7/5): - Location. Staff friendliness I was concerned my car could be broken into
- Alexandria (10/5): Cozy, already booked my next stay - Good value and location worked for what we needed
- Traveler39265236770 (8/5): Nothing wrong with this place - I’m not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I like to find places that offer good value and this is one of them. For less than $100 in Vancouver, which is not easy to do, I spent the night there. The bed was nice. The pillows were nice. My room was more or less clean. Everything in their worked. It’s not my favourite neighborhood, but if you are looking for a place to spend the night and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, I would say go ahead.
- Chidera (1/5): -
- Kimberly (4/5): NA - Eunice!! She was great. Slippery shower, ask for towels
- Maryam (1/5): Horrendous - Stunk of urine, Disappointed with booking.com’s recommendations. I should get a full refund The location was horrendous, the room stunk of cigarettes and urine. It was a very uncomfortable state.
- Maksym (1/5): - Location, big concentration of homeless people not far from the hotel. Broken blinds and some appliances in the room.
- Tyler (6/5): -
- Olga (1/5): -
- Connors (10/5): - everything was pretty great, especially for the price. the restaurant was awesome, delicious food and great service and the staff of the hotel were all very kind and accommodating. this was my first time in Vancouver, so I didnt know the area when booking. the street this hotel is on is famous for its homelessness and drug addiction problem. Personally, I had no issue and overall had a very wonderful stay, me and my friend just stayed in the hotel until we went to the concert we were attending. We didnt see the said problem until we went further up the street.
- Williams (6/5): It was a great price, but I don’t think I would stay there again based on how run-down it was. - The free parking was a great feature, and the price was cheap. Even though it was dated (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), it felt a little dirty. The wall had a stain on it, it was freezing when I walked in my room (although I finally figured out how to put the heat on), the bed was slumped down on one side, and the closet was broken. I really enjoyed the kind staff, and the free parking is a great feature. It was also a very close drive to great restaurants.
- Spurrell (9/5): Nice, historic hotel - Staff were efficient and friendly. Rooms, while dated, were very clean Very expensive for such an old hotel with very few amenities, even though there was an event nearby. Our shower was also very small
- Tony (8/5): -
- Juergen (5/5): An iconic Vancouver hotel in need of care. - The budget price for a Vancouver hotel is good though it may vary. Staff very willing to correct issues. Good public transit at front door. Able to open window. Not very clean, saw lots of dust and an object under bed headset. Unable to control heat. No face cloth provided. One bedside lamp did not function. Even though staff were asked at check-in for a quiet room, base beats from downstairs club could still be heard. No AC outlet near bed for USB devices. Bring your own extension cord!
- Johnson (10/5): It was a good experience - Very nice and friendly with a good location. Events didn’t let us access the tiki bar/ brewery
- Takahashi (5/5): -
- Sean (6/5): - Nice place, rustic. Great grill and bar below, gets noisy at night and just a t the edge of a rather rough neighborhood. We were on the quiet side and still could hear lots of music, and people going to the liquor store and traffic...
- Dena (2/5): - Do not stay here! This hotel is attached to a bar and loud music was heard and felt in our room until 2 am. We got no sleep. Free parking but it’s behind the hotel and kind of shady. The hotel staff member was nice. Do not stay here unless you do not value sleep and rest.
- abhishek (10/5): - Homely environment, staffs are great; treat you like family members which I like. I wish there was a parking around but overall it’s worth your every buck. Thanks again
- Michael (7/5): -
- Louise (6/5): - Stayed here for 4 da
- Ritika (4/5): - Check in was too late. Most of the hotels allow check in at 11:00 am but here it was at 3:00pm.
- SweetMix (2/5): It feels as gross as it looks - This place was a waste of time and money. I wish so much that we paid the little extra money and stayed somewhere else. Everything looks and feels dirty, and the "customer service" was very much lacking. There were stains that we couldn't identify almost everywhere. Please learn my mistake.
- Yvonne (6/5): - It was ok i say
Got to go to order dinner from my spouse ate years ago
Transportation aight too
- serge (6/5): - Excellent friendly staff, minus room, minus bathroom, scary surrounding
- Jenn (4/5): - My queen room only came with 2 flat pillows, there were cracks in the ceiling and water damage splattered everywhere. When sitting in the toilet in the bathroom, you can’t open doors without getting hit.
- Dolores (2/5): - Could not sleep tjey had an event with lod music amd people were making so much noise until 1:30 am doors we slamming very loud talking and banging doors
- Brenda (6/5): - Hotel is very outdated
- Babette (4/5): - The staff were EXCELLENT; very kind and accomodating. However, my room was filthy (dead bugs on wall, stains on wall, stains on laundry including a yellow stain on the bedsheet) and I was not switched to a cleaned room after pointing the bedsheets out, the sheets were simply changed while I stood there (so I'm not comfortable with the mattress cleanliness, I didn't mind about staying in the room I paid for).
The area is in Gadtown, which is widely regarded as unsafe and does include a locked door because of this. Again, not to the fault of the hotel, but I was not comfortable walking in the evening and for the price I paid that was a lot.
- Rebeca (2/5): The surrounding area needs improvement. - The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, the surrounding area is very dangerous. Even though the hotel has an electronic key lock at the entrance, the parking lot is exposed. It’s not an area where I would go out at night.
- Paul (6/5): - Place was clean but very tired. Wi-fi was good, cheap supermarket across the road.staff friendly.
Not in the best area, 2 miles to Coal harbour.
- Nishanthan (10/5): - Clean room, staff was exceptional. It’s like 10/15 mins uber/bus ride to downtown.
- jackbrianh (2/5): WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER ! SHAME ON HOTELS.COM and REVIEWERS - This hotel is the absolute worst hotel we have ever stayed at. It is in a very bad neighbourhood where we saw 2 crackheads outside while there. All for $293 CDN on HOTELS.COM
DO NOT BELIEVE HOTELS.COM REVIEWS - IT IS A DUMP! The website photos don’t represent the actual hotel portion. ANY SCORE ABOVE A 2 / 10 Should not be believed and it should be pulled from HOTELS.COM offerings.
Our room was not air conditioned and was stifling hot on the second floor. The carpets are filthy, chair was broken and bed uncomfortable. Room was also very tiny.
The staff were polite and helpful.
We stayed in BC for 13 more nights using ABNB asa boycott to Hotels.com.
- Patrick (10/5): - Staff was great and bar/restaurant there was solid. Good food and service
- Nada (4/5): - The property is old and needs updating. No elevator. The staff on duty when we arrived was very helpful, staff on duty next morning not so much.
Needs cleanliness attention, particularly in restroom.
The restaurant was very personable and food good.
Breakfast at Yoke across the street was EXCELLENT.
- David (2/5): - This is an insult to anyone using Expedia for booking a room such as this. obviously thy don't check out these hotels and area. The noise was like they were right in the room with us until about 2 am. and got louder as the night went on. We were told by some staff do not go out after dark or more than half a block as this is the worst end of Vancouver BC. I am forever scared what I saw the next morning going to the Port of call. Fentinal hang all over the place. Allies, corners, streets where ever you looked that is all you saw and maybe even a few were already dead.!!! It as a horrible site to experience to see young AND old just standing there hanging over just barely alive. and they were right stay inside because they will do anything for what they need. When we first arrived at the hotel the doors were locked and they keep them locked for the safety of their clients is what hey told us. We are seniors and would never want to experience this nightmare or anyone for that matter. The staff was accommodating, but I would never use this place or even recommend it to anyone. all I can say I would not trust Expedia again and give them a pathetic less than zero review. Sty safe and stay away from this hotel!!!!!!
- Antoni (10/5): - Only thing was the tables were a little dirty In the room. Stayed here before and will again. Can’t beat a $200 room in Vancouver
- Linda (8/5): - Clean..reasonable...polite staff..no elevator but they helped me with my luggage.
- Tobi (4/5): - Sketchy at best!
- Jolanda (4/5): - The room we had smelt like wet dog
- Melanie (10/5): - Drug use and homelessness so prevalent the main lobby doors are always locked and you need a key to enter even during the day. Noise from the street (traffic, people) is so loud it sounds like I'm standing on the sidewalk. Staff was very friendly and room was ready before check-in time. No evidence of bugs of any kind. Price was one of lowest in area but very high considering the facilities conditions. No elevator, which was fine for us but could be very difficult for others.
- Abraham (4/5): - The location of the hotel is terrible
- Sheri (10/5): - If your looking for convenient, clean and great price with the kindest staff, this is your place!
As a solo traveler the area was safe, the food was delicious and perfect location.
- David (8/5): - Staff was very helpful if you’re looking for an inexpensive room away from downtown in a nice little neighborhood it’s for you. Our room on the street so there was some traffic noise. we were able to walk to Gastown, but we took a $20 cab to Yaletown. lots of shopping and restaurants on commercial Street.
- Dean (10/5): Good hotel - The hotel is good for a 2 star establishment. It was clean the rooms were comfortable & the staff were friendly & helpful.
The area outside of the hotel is less desireable but people need to remember you are not booking a hotel in millionaires row. We experienced no issues at all with the area & we also rode the bus with no issues.
We parked our car in the car park as designated by the hotel & the car park was fine.
There is a little cafe called Rosemary's behind the hotel & we went there twice for breakfast, that was very nice.
- Bruce (8/5): - Good price, friendly staff, an old hotel but well maintained. I walked the 1.7 miles from downtown along Hasting Street. I would not recommend this unless you are trying to score drugs or view the homeless. There is a bus that runs along Hasting Street so you can bypass this mess. Nearby Commercial Street is lively for food and shops.
- atkinsonmae (4/5): An experience! - The location is pretty convenient to access downtown! $8 UBER fare. If you go a block either direction you can skip the unpleasantness of East Hastings enroute. Pretty much as expected in terms of hotel room - tv = broken, furniture = dated, beds = hard. Fairly clean however. Only one key provided which could be tricky depending on your group (actual key).
Loud music through the floor until 2am... we were aware of this. I would suggest this hotel provide a white noise machine in rooms so affected by the noise, it would help!
If you can afford the $75 extra to go elsewhere... I would.
- Linda (4/5): Give this one a skip - Generally lousy experience. The room was tiny and very dated. Felt like the furniture hadn’t been changed since 1952. Not enough power outlets to charge our tech and no USB ports at all, which would have been fine if there were plugs. The carpet felt filthy although the room overall seemed clean enough, just old. No bathmat in the bathroom and we didn’t even use the shower because there was mold on the caulking. The volume on the tiny tv didn’t work. But the worst part was the noise from the downstairs nightclub. We were alerted by the hotel ahead of time that they hosted events but the noise level was simply inhumane. Our entire room shook from the base until 2-3 am. And the hotel isn’t accessible. No elevator and quite a few stairs so if you have mobility issues do not stay here. Would definitely not recommend this hotel. (The staff were nice but that’s the only good thing to be said really.)
- peter (2/5): - m
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Room was filthy dirty and the bed was broken could not sleep as every time you moved the bed would make noise.
- Gail (6/5): - We chose this hotel for the convenience of going to Canada place to embark on an Alaska cruise. The room is over priced, hallways are dirty, noisy and the room we had very small with a seriously outdated bathroom. The whole hotel needs updating. The staff were very accommodating and friendly and the food\ and drinks in the restaurant were pretty good.
- stephen (7/5): Pleasant, helpful staff, grocery store across the street - Free parking, good restaurant Small sink in bathroom
- Karen (10/5): - This is a great little hotel if you are just looking to sleep and occasionally relax. It is by no means a luxury hotel, but it is conveniently located close to The Drive and is clean and comfy. Staff are lovely, attached pub is good, free parking is close and while there are people around who you may feel are sketchy, it is safe and not different from a lot of busy areas in major cities. I will stay again.
- John (6/5): - No TV
- Theodore (3/5): - They had a restaurant and bar. There was no elevator. We had to carry our bags up the stairs. We were given a room with no AC. Fortunately there was a cancelation and we were given that room. We had to listen to the AC drip all night onto the floor. Would not recommend this hotel.
- JohnK (6/5): Good staff, but noise was a problem. - The staff was excellent -- friendly, informative, and helpful for information about public transportation and other matters. By comparison with other hotels in Vancouver, the price was reasonable (thoough high by what we are used to in the US for a hotel of this level). The room was clean. It was easy to take public transportation bus to near the Canada Place cruise terminal. Noise was VERY loud from music on a Thursday night from a restaurant/bar/club off the first floor lobby of the hotel. The next night, there was noise from music from the same source which was not as loud, but still wasannoying. I do not know if the loud music would be a problem on other nights. I could hear the TV sound from the next room though the wall.
- LAURENCE (5/5): -
- Josh D (2/5): - There is a nightclub in the basement playing and VERY LOUD music that shook the walls until around midnight. Hotel was very out dated and in poor condition. The Staff was friendly and helpful. There is no elevator, and all the rooms are upstairs. I would strongly suggest you go somewhere else.
- John (10/5): - If you’re looking for an affordable, clean room in a safe area with lots of food shops and other points of interest then this is the place. Not many frills here—it appears to be a converted building that served as a theater ages ago. No elevator or air conditioning in my room but not an issue most of the year. Worked great for a single guy that needed a place to overnight. Older folks might need someplace more accommodating.
- Kim (8/5): - honestly, i know they talked about the possibility of noise, but even though it was a friday night i slept so well and wasnt bothered at all! The bed was super comfy.
- James H (6/5): - Room was small. Staff pleasant and helpful but the area around the hotel was unpleasant.
- Bhavyai (6/5): - Got what I paid for. Staff is nice. Rooms are small. The walls are thin.
- Kyler (6/5): - Staff and service were excellent, and the price was great. Bed was comfortable and I liked that there was a fan already in the room. Cheap Uber rides into downtown, so the location was actually very convenient. Seems like there are some fun events happening on the property (drag shows, etc). Felt very safe while I was there.
Unfortunately, the walls are very thin, and it's easy to hear people in the hallway. I could hear my neighbour talking and snoring on the other side of the wall. I had to move to another room so I could sleep the second night. Both rooms had significant traffic noise from outside. The bath/shower in the second room didn't drain properly, and both showers had hot water issues.
If you're a light sleeper or picky about amenities, I would avoid. Great if you need a cheap place to say and want to have an adventure! 👍
- Joos (6/5): N adres voor kort verblijf - Bed kwaliteit Noise te veel zowel binnen als buiten
Beter isoleren in de toekomst
- Geoff (4/5): Yikes - Avoid this hotel. They say they are in a safe neighborhood, but there are bars on the windows. You think parking is behind the hotel but it’s not- you’ll get boxed in. Disappointing to me that in the two emails they sent ahead of time, they said nothing about parking.
The parking they do have is a surface lot next door, right on the bus line. I honestly expected the windows of the car to be smashed the next morning. Gratefully they were not.
Room was outdated but clean. Bed was quite squeaky. Didn’t matter, cause your’re not sleeping with all the street noise, even with ear plugs in.
The two plusses of this hotel is that it’s a 20 minute walk to “the drive”/little Italy and a 5 minute uber to Gastown.
Not a place I would recommend to friends.
- Ryan (10/5): - Great staff great restaurant attached. Super close to the stadium / arena
- Michelle (8/5): - Moldy grout on the shower floor.
- Dale (10/5): Staying at the Waldorf - The room on the street side was extremely noisy all night long. They were very helpful in changing us to a quiet room. It is an older hotel but one can see that they are really trying to keep it nice. The staff was always very helpful and friendly.
- Margaret (2/5): - Expensive. Dirty, smell of pee, I canceled the second night couldn’t stay there, bad experience.
- Alexander (4/5): Nice staff, hotel is a dump - Staff were pleasant.
But the hotel is a dump.
- Mavzuna (6/5): -
- Darren (6/5): Mid - The hotel is old and in need of some improvements. For example the bed was worn out and not comfortable at all. Not the best part of town.
- Susan (4/5): - Was appalled at the amount of homeless in the area was a terrible sight and heartbreaking. I just wanted to leave asap.
- Bryan (5/5): Bem os funcionários muito amigáveis mas precisam más acomodações para os clientes - Perto do Porto e da cidade Não tivera ar condicionado e fazia muito barulho e calor
- Lillian (6/5): - It’s an older hotel, not updated, but the staff went out of their way to make us happy. The restaurant there was wonderful as was the staff!
- Graham (10/5): - It was in a safe area of Vancouver easily accessible by bus and car and the staff were courteous and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Historic = Old - Staff at the Waldorf was very helpful and friendly. Building is old and not very well maintained. Room was dirty. Area around the hotel is dirty.
- Emmanuel (6/5): - la douche sentait pas très bonne .
- Jenny (6/5): - Staff was super friendly from check-in to check-out. Although the area of this hotel is… sketchy to say the least, the hotel seems to take proper measures to ensure the safety of its guests. We had a room with a window looking out onto the street so it got quite loud due to traffic sometimes. The AC also leaks with condensation if you use it after some time, but the hotel is very transparent about it. Nonetheless, it was a decent stay. But only if you can get past the rougher neighbourhood and minor facility issues. I wouldn’t recommend staying for any longer than a night or two.
- mark (10/5): - Seemed historic. I liked that
- Marietta (4/5): - Property was very sketchy, but staying at the Marriott would’ve cost $500 more. A lot of druggies on the street, but client was reputable and so were employees.
- Ron (6/5): - Friendly staff did their best to make our stay enjoyable. Gifted us a small bottle of Prosecco and accommodated a room change after we discovered our non-smoking room smelled like cigarettes.
- Kelly (4/5): - Old terribly rundown.. bad area.. way too expensive for an old dump
