- RICHARD (10/5): - New owners taking pride of ownership in a true vintage property. While keeping some of the original and distinctive parts of the property, new updates have been made to create a warm, welcoming, and romantic destination. Restaurant owner is very hands on and consistently providing a great menu served up enticing and tasting delicious. Overall, a step back in time where small business operations make it a personal and satisfying experience. The cherry on top is a beautiful golf course to play as well. Will return!

Spent time in the great room adjacent to the lobby. It had comfortable seating,games, books and a nice fireplace. It would be a great place for a family reunion.

Staff were helpful in giving excellent recommendations to local and in the area orchards with amazing shops.

- Katherine (10/5): - This property was built as an elegant hotel in 1931. The new owners have worked diligently to maintain that elegance and beauty while still keeping the ambiance very comfy and homey. My two friends and I felt like we were guests in someone’s home. The food is excellent.

- Peter (8/5): - We chose to stay at Maxwelton Braes Lodge ecause of its location near friends and because of the adjacent golf course. We had a comfortable stay in a clean room, but were disappointed that the previous Thyme Restaurant was no ,onger operating in the lodge. There is a limited menu restaurant operation that is open part of the week, but never for breakfast. We were also disappointed that the lodge is not located to allow walking or hiiking to other Baileys Harbor points of interest or dining. The hotel rooms also appear to have dampness issues. The archictecture and historic nature of the lodge is very interesting and provides a nice experience for those that enjoy that feature.

- John (10/5): A must stay - My wife and I stayed for our 30th anniversary. I would highly recommend it, this hotel is definitely not the average hotel. The property, rooms, lobby, patio and lounge are historic and beautiful. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly and keep the rooms and facility, clean and spotless.
- Angela (10/5): - My daughter and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and we loved Maxwelton Braes. The on-site tennis and pickle ball courts made us wish we were staying longer. We also loved the patio outside. They even offered us complimentary use of the cruiser bicycles so we could cycle into Bailey Harbor just a mile away. We had an excellent time and would happily go back.

- Tara (6/5): - The hotel was old fashioned which I found charming. The property was nice to look at. We did not use the golf course, but it looked well maintained.The rooms were clean, however one our the lamps in my room was in a corner with no outlet and was unusable. Our room had direct tv and a large flat screen tv, but no remote which made watching tv more difficult. I shared a joining room with friends, but they did not have their own bathroom or tv and needed to walk through our bed area to use either item. Overall, I would return to the lodge during a different season where i could utilize more outdoor amenities.
- Gregory (6/5): - We liked the history of the lodge. It was a beautiful building. We would've liked to see more staff. No one at the front desk and not very welcoming. There was coffee in the morning in the lounge but muffins or rolls would be nice too since there wasn't an open cafe close by.

The dining room is permanently closed, so breakfast is 4 or 5 miles away. Room keys must be picked up at the bar. This historic hotel is now a neglected side-hustle for the main operation, which is the golf course. Stay elsewhere.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Save your money - There was probably a reason why this property was still available for a last minute Labor Day trip. I guess we could say the room was “vintage”…smelled musty, only one a/c unit in the bedroom so the living area was hot, the bathroom was always damp and the shower was made for someone 5ft tall (not to mention the horrible sulfer smell of the water, but this is somewhat typical for the area). Also thought it was a little odd no one was working when we arrived for check-in and keys were just in an envelope on the desk for us. Could be a great place and it probably was back in the day, but needs some major updates and TLC for the amount they’re charging.

- Jennifer (2/5): This review is about the Fairway Cabins, I cannot - This review is about the Fairway Cabins, I cannot speak on the lodge rooms. Do yourself a favor and avoid the Fairways! When we arrived around 7pm and there was no one on desk. The confirmation information we received stated check in could be done until 730pm. Instead, our name and the room keys were left out in an unsecure area where anyone could have taken then. We never saw a concierge/desk clerk during our stay. We had several issues with the room which I will share below. The welcome letter that was left with our keys had a number that stated to call/text if needed. It took over 5 hours and two texts before we heard from anyone regarding our troubles. The room had a musty smell that never went away. The water had a hard mineral content which left the sinks stained and a bad taste which was also slightly fishy. We had to buy bottled water to brush our teeth. When booking the room. It stated air conditioning was included; however, what it failed to state was that it was a window unit only in the bedroom and the sofa bed/living room area did not have ac so that room was always uncomfortable. Needless to say, the advertisement is misleading. It got chilly in the evenings and when we went to turn on the heat it didnt work. It required maintenance to come out and fix it which didnt occured until later in the evening the second day. To add insult, they cranked the heat to 90°F on the thermastat and left it there so when we returned, the room was obnoxiously hot.
- Gene (2/5): Worst Ever!!!! - Was absolutely horrific. The rooms weee dirty, towels used - see pic, and were missing most of the sheets/comforters in the room. Nobody at the reception, phones lead nowhere. Had to wonder around the hotel to find laundry room and wash towels and sheets sobthat people could sleep in the room! Left 2 messages at front desk - not even a callback!!!!! 2 adults had to sleep in their clothes!!!!! I expect a full refund!!!

- James (4/5): - No management present for our entire stay. No formal check-in or check out. The entire place needs updating both inside and out. Limited food and beverage service. I will say the bed was comfortable.

When I say there was nobody there there was nobody there no is there no staff no guests We had to find our own towels and our own toilet Paper. It was a bit like the shining. With that sad the rooms were fine and they were clean but it was just weird.

When we arrived at the property. there was no one around. After about a half hour, my husband walked around to the upper areas and finally found someone cleaning rooms. Finally got a key to the room.
- Vivian (6/5): The good and not so good. - The lodge was lovely, but our room was small with a nightstand and lamp on one side of the bed so only one person could read or put an item next to the bed. The in room air conditioner took up the limited floor space making it more cramped.

It is outside of all the hustle and bustle of Door County but within 15 minutes to most of the main tourist areas and a great center point to stay at. The only thing was that the AC unit was pretty loud and rattled but we were able to turn it off and stay comfortable with the ceiling fan going. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Door COUNTY

- Natalia (10/5): - I recently had the pleasure to stay at this beautiful resort, not only was the staff extremely friendly, the rooms clean, and the food great the grounds were beautifully maintained and I would go there again in the future. Only setback is if you’re on the younger side it may be a little quiet as there is more of a senior population staying on the premises. Perfect if your trying to relax though and definitely a go if your into golfing as they have a extensive golf course on site.

We felt like we were in a neat old place, but everything important was nicely updated. Great place to spend our 40th anniversary!

- Jeffrey (10/5): Surprising retreat - Very interesting lodge retaing it's late 20s vibe. Friendly staff.. Hard wood doors are a treat. With roomy closet and bath. Two small things, missed having a small table to sit at and shower handle was difficult to adjust water temp. Restaurant was quite nice with good food and drinks, fresh caught whitefish was good at dinner and breakfast was also well prepared. Service staff were exceptional. Wife is GF and options were numerous including a GF biscuit served warm before dinner that was exceptional.. Played some golf and enjoyed this lovely old course. Outside fire pit was a hit despite October temps. Nicely located with easy access to other towns and fun stuff yet isolated from the touristy areas.

- Karen (10/5): Lodge room at Maxwellton Braes - It was all very nice; the staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. We were in an older lodge room, that had been updated, and it was great. We only had breakfast there, which was excellent. We would recommend this place, and would go back again.

- Phyllis (10/5): - My family has stayed at Maxwelton Braes for four generations. During those 60+ years, the resort has had its ups and downs. A decade ago, it had gotten rundown - and ended up shuttered. I'm delighted to report that it has reopened with new owners who have put a great deal of care (and money) into the place. While they have retained all the historic beauty and charm, they have replaced the carpeting throughout, added much-needed dehumidifier/air conditioners to each room, and are even paying attention to the small details like quality toiletries. Our stay was exceptional; we were treated well at every turn, the staff was accommodating and friendly, and our needs were well-met. I look forward to going back next year!
- Nancy (10/5): Beautiful hotel in Door County, WI - We had a lovely stay at this golf resort even tho we didn't play golf! We got a small suite which was great for a 5 day stay. The restaurant was a bit cold for breakfast but they served us in the non -air conditioned bar. The food is very good and everyone was so helpful. Door County is a beautiful place to visit and Maxwelton Braes is a great place to stay.
- Heidi (8/5): Cozy and quite - My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and had a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly and attentive. Everything was beautiful but older. The building was from 1920s so there was that old time beauty but also rustic. We loved sitting outside by the gas firepit and enjoying a drink. The only qualm we had was the room next to us had loud talkers and we could hear them through the wall.

- Annette (8/5): Quaint little hotel - It's a quaint little hotel in Door County. More like a bed and breakfast with a restaurant attched to it. Our room was small but again quaint. We enjoyed having less guests around us that a large hotel. Our only complaint was the shower head desperately needed to be replaced and there was no water pressure and it sprayed in different directions.
