Guest Reviews
- Rafael (10/5): - Family - Friendly - breakfast amazing
- Shshlsa (2/5): - It doesn’t worth for the price I paid very expensive and very poor service no water in the room u have to walk to the lobby and take one glass of water breakfast was not good at all I would never stay in this place very very very bad
Not worth the price
- Edgar (8/5): - the perssonel service, kept the guess in good way against bad and expensive taxis services
- Verified traveler (10/5): Takk for oss! - God service og fint rom. Aircondition fungerte bra. Beliggenheten var perfekt.
- Zohreh (8/5): - I liked the place for eating brackfast because of the beautiful view.
I didn't like the area around the property and there wasn't anything in refrigerator such as water.
- Caner (10/5): - Çok iyi
- Md Hasibus Saleheen (8/5): - Nice location for tourism.. Clean room and friendly staff.
- aras (6/5): - I did not like the staff
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dont - The only good thing about the hotel is its location and the view from restaurant/cafeteria.
The hotel staff is not very welcoming, and communication in English is a big problem.
The rooms are very dull, there is no isolation in walls or doors. You can hear people whispering from other rooms. At times it felt like someone is coming in our room because of no sound isolation on doors and you can see people walking in the corridor from below, thats very uncomfortable.
Beds are extremely noisy. No water pressure in shower if your using warm water.
Toilet looks dirty, and the electricity goes out every 5/10 minutes. We asked so many times for tissue papers, got none.
The room service only makes up the bed, they don’t clean. They didn’t even change our towels once, only hung them up in the room to dry.
There is no minibar, so not possible to make coffee or tea in room.
Lastly, I would not recommend this hotel for people who are looking to have an enjoyable time. This hotel is fine as an emergency, a real emergency. As the overall quality isn’t good. This is definitely not a 4 star.
No idea on what bases people are giving this hotel a strong rating, its very misleading.

- Genci (8/5): - Es war alles gut in Ordnung
- MUCAHIT (10/5): - Very good hotel if you visiting Blue Mosque and Hagiasophia, Staff is very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Очень хорошо большое спасибо чисто в комнате хорошие условия
- Nisrin (10/5): MY HOTEL - Really my trip wa s wonderful and my room wa s very cute and l feel with my husband with confidence in the hotel. It is really GRAND MADRID
- AlexSkopje_Macedonia (6/5): OK - Nice hotel for a short stay, good room with a view of Laleli. Good breakfast although it could've been richer, walking distance to Kapali Charshi. Bed was comfortable, free wifi. A bit noisy from the other rooms.
- lubnasrahman (8/5): An average hotel but the breakfast is great for kids - We stayed at this hotel for a week and the kids loved the breakfast but the mini bar is really expensive so avoid using that & instead purchase drinks from the local shops for a bargain. Over all the hotel is ok.
- Juanperez (4/5): Very disappointing - This hotel is in very bad condition and except for a very nice man in the reception area, no one seem to care much.
The hotel is attached to a clothing store and the reception area is full of boxes and packages of clothes.
The room although large had a very strong tobacco smell. The thermostat did not work. Power went off several times during the stay. Room had paper wall detached. The vent fan in the bathroom was very noisy.
I could not find signs of a pool like the ones showed in the brochure
Breakfast room in the top floor had water stains all over. The dispenser for mineral water in breakfast room had an empty bottle on top and three more empty bottles around, no one care to change it, so I was unable to drink water during breakfast.
- mohammed (8/5): - Det var bra opphold men svømme basseng er stengt
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was quite comfortable, some furniture may be old but eveything is clean in general. The staff was really great, they were very polite, processed everything very quickly, were very responsive to requests. The hotel is very good value for money.
- salmanov (8/5): Nice Hotel Close to Metro Station - I recommend this hotel due to many reasons :
1 - Excellent staff, very friendly and very helpful especially Mr cancer (Turkish Name)
2- Near restaurants, markets, shops, close to Metro Station and tramway
3- The cleaning ladies are very respectable and lovable
4- very clean hotel and delicious breakfast
I am a permanent guest of this hotel and would recommend itز
- Verified traveler (10/5): wonderful - perfect
- nilima_ayodele (8/5): Great location and service - The location is perfect for sightseeing and shopping in Laleli. The room was great, the double bed was huge for us and the service was excellent . The breakfast was ok , the buffet was not that big and i think it should be richer
- 72natiaj (10/5): Excellent Hotel for shopping in Laleli - We always stay in this hotel it is clean and comfortable, breakfast is good. free wifi. it is in the heart of Laleli with many shops around that mostly sell wholesale clothes. the hotel is from walking distance to Gold Bazaar (kapali charshi)
- lawklawk (4/5): Not so good - The position of the hotel is good but the room service is not so good and the Internet is so bad in the rooms there was internet only in the reception and also the breakfast is acceptable they didn't clean bed every day in general it is 2 star hotel not than more
- KhanG007 (4/5): Poor Service! - Didn't respond to emails; couldn't communicate on the phone as they couldn't speak English! On the night of arrival, sent us to a smaller different hotel saying they are FULL! Unbelievable! Rooms were fine but mould smell in bathroom! Staff consistently Unhelpful! Breakfast was great though and so were the views from the top breakfast dinning roo.
- lida (10/5): great service, great people, great location. - Was a lovely hotel, nice service, the staff were very friendly and very helpful although spoke little English was still very kind and help us find many tourist attracts out of their kindness. the cleaning ladies were lovely and the rooms were cleaned every time we came back to the rooms which was nice. the location of the hotel is fab, close to all attractions, a 10-20 min walking distance from grandbazaar, blue mosque, sultanahmet. and right in the centre of the little markets and shops which was a nice stroll during the nights after we had done our day outing. overall a lovely hotel, maybe a little congested but doesn't make a difference if you close your windows as the hotel room has an AC anyway. the breakfast menu had a large variety of food and drinks and love the restaurant upstairs in the fresh air for those that want to sit outside or you can sit inside. also you can get food from out side and come and eat it in the hotel resturaunt or order takeaway in the resturaunt which the staff go and retrieve for you. has a nice indoor pool, only it was a little cold so inform the staff before hand to warm it up. also they offer free tea which they provide at all times when requested, the hotel service was great, the staff deserve real praise.
- Jaynal khan (6/5): Good - Most of staff don't speak English . No one told us about mini bar is free or will be charged. And the prices of those drinks are not listed. This is not the way do a good business ,hiding information . I consider it is a hidden charge.
- Shank111 (6/5): Decent Stay - We stayed here for 2 days and i will define it as decent stay. The rooms were effectively soundproof as described else the stay would have been noisy. It is located in marketplace. Sightseeing is good 20 min walk which can be tiring on sunny day. Guided tours can be taken but they tend to finish the tour at the earliest. Not a 4 star hotel but decent budget hotel. The room did not have a time piece and Air con temperature is fixed. There is no room service menu. For people opting to spend most of the time sight seeing it can be decent stay.
- Mirjana007 (8/5): Excellent location at a fair price - The hotel is located 20 minute-walk from the major sights in Sultanahmet district, e.g. Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosques, the Hippodrome etc.
The rooms and bathrooms are large and clean, recently redecorated and refurbished. There's free Wi-fi service.
The breakfast is served on the top floor from where you can have a beautiful view of the Istanbul bay. The breakfast menu is diverse, offering both traditional Turkish food and continental breakfast.
The receptionists are kind and helpful, don't mistake their brisk tone for unkindness, they are always at service.
- 356sama (2/5): Very Disappointing - I stayed in this hotel in may 2010 and I can only describe this as my worst nightmare, the hotel advised that a taxi would be waiting for us when we arrived at the airpost (cost included in the hotel price), when we reached the airport to no suprise there was no taxi arranged, we tried to call the hotel twie but the person who picked up could not understand or speak english and hung up rudely. Majority of the staff were unable to speak english so as you can imagine it was really hard to communicate with them. When we arrived at the hotel we were given a filthy room with holes in the bathroom ceiling and the room smelt of smoke, we asked to be moved the same night but were told that there are no other rooms available until tomorrow. The next day after insisting to be moved asap we were moved to a better room nothing spectacular. the breakfast is nothing special, theres no iron in the rooms or hotel, a member of staff use to take our clothes to a shop opposite for ironing at cost. Beware of this hotel.
- OttawaTravellingDude (4/5): Not a very nice hotel - This hotel bills itself as a 4 star but realistically it was a 2 star at best. It is located in a very noisy and congested location in Istanbul. It was almost impossible to reach by taxi as the traffic was so congested in the area. The rooms were pretty bare and run down with the furniture needing an update. The Wifi was free and worked ok, but all in all not a very highly rated hotel.
- AriHussein (6/5): Not Good Choice - I spend one night in this hotel, but I don't like it.
The room is not clean, it seem too old hotel, I feel that the door is can be open easily by anyone try, this hotel is not good choice for stay in Istanbul
- pepca (8/5): Beyond expectations - Having read the previous reviews we didn't expect much of this hotel (booked it last minute so it was the best of options that were left) but our stay was actually very pleasant.
The room was big enough, the shower as well. Everything seemed renovated or maybe we were just lucky to get a room in a nice floor (5th). Wi-fi worked perfect. Windows were sound proof (really helpful!) and a various and plentiful breakfast on the rooftop terrace was amazing.
Negative:
Upon booking we selected a non-smoking room but were given a smoking one. The ashtray in the hall made me doubt they even have nonsmoking rooms.
What seemed strange was that not once in 7 days (6 nights) did they change the bed linen and towels despite the fact that the room was cleaned daily. With the exception of one young boy with glasses, staff can be friendlier and more welcoming (no smiles, no greetings upon entering and leaving the hotel or restaurant).
Location:
The best way to get to the hotel is to get off the tram (not metro!) at Aksaray station, which makes 2 stops to grand bazar and 2 more to Sultanahmet. Coming from the airport, take the metro to Zeytinburnu station and change there to the Tram line 1. You will need 2 jetons for this ride (one for metro, one for tram). When you get off the tram at Aksaray station, take the big street that is on your right side (don’t cross any road) and walk towards the first traffic lights. Turn left there and walk cca 200 m. The hotel will be on your left side.
The area seemed like a Russian district as there are many shops around with Russian signs and lots of people speaking Russian on the street. Nothing wrong with that though.
- AliceW72 (4/5): Filthy bathroom - We stayed there in April 2011 (5 nights). There were no reviews and no traveler photos at the time of our booking, which I took as a good sign – very unwise of me.
Plus points:
- great location
- clean sheets.
Minus points:
- filthy bathroom (hair and filth on the toilet and on the sink. Filthy bathtub. I tried my best during the showers not to touch anything, the walls included
- during our 5-night (6-day) stay not once were the towels changed.
- big hole in the ceiling. I called the manager and showed him. He looked at the hole and asked me serenely: ‘Problem?! What problem?’. Nothing was done about it. They didn't change our room, nor did they offer us a discount.
- they tried to charge us extra for the parking space, claiming that the hours specified on the parking sign were actually prices. Laughable.
- very thin walls. The room was noisy and we had trouble sleeping.
The breakfast was average. Horrible coffee.
I wouldn’t stay there again.
Traveled as a couple.
- RahmanK_11 (4/5): Beware - We stayed at Grand Madrid for six nights in early September and the service we received was far below our expectations. We will NEVER visit this hotel again.
If you are planning to visit this hotel make sure you check everything possible in the room and report any minor problems to the management. Our room door handle was slightly loose and it was so hardly noticeable we didn't even bother to mention it. While leaving they made us pay $50 for this. I suspect this is a scheme which the hotel owner is not aware of and is a source of income for the reception people.
Also at the last minute the person who had gone up to check our room falsely informed the reception that we had left the safe box locked and they were going to make us pay for this too. This was utter lie and we did not pay anything.
The service was poor. There was no TV in the lobby and the reception people were rude.
- Cyntheap (4/5): Half finished rooms, rude staff - We stayed at the Grand Madrid as part of a group tour of Istanbul and Gallipoli. When we arrived none of the staff spoke any English and getsured for us to sit on the couches. At various times in the next hour we got up and asked what was happening but we were simply waved away. It wasn't until there was a shift change that we again approached the front desk and were told that our rooms were still being cleaned... it was 5pm! We waited another hour before being taken to our room which was still full of cleaning staff. In the next 30mins, we had our door knocked on 3 times by staff, each time wanting to give us a different room key. None of the staff spoke any English so we just had no idea what was going on.
The room had 3 single beds, even though we had paid for a double room. It took so much effort to get a room that we didn't spend too much time arguing this point. The room looked like it was a work in progress. The bathroom was quite nice and very clean but the main room had wires coming out of the wall and several holes in the ceiling.
The location is not too bad as it is a 5 minute walk to a tram stop. There are lots of clothing shops in the area but not many restaurants. I recommend eating from the small kebab shops, they really are great cheap meals.
- LTG1975 (8/5): Highly Recomended - Although the Hotel was undergoing renovations when I arrived for my reservation, I was very impressed by the way that the staff and manager made special efforts on my behalf to accommodate my stay. My room was very well appointed with fantastic views of the Bosporus and Sultan Ahmet. The breakfast was delicious and the restaurant also had breathtaking views. I can imagine that once the renovations are completed, the Grand Madrid will be one of the best hotels in the historic peninsula. Moreover the price was very reasonable.
