- Diana (6/5): Overpriced - The staff were very kind ..and the location is good The hotel needs complete renovation ..the rooms are outdated ..it is overpriced compared to the room conditions
- LA STRUTTURA DELL'ALBERGO E LA CORDIALITA' DEL PERSONALE AGGIUNGEREI IL RISCALDAMENTO, LA CAMERA ERA FREDDA E UMIDA ANCHE SE ERA AGOSTO
- sajeewa (9/5): Comfortable Stay in Nuwara Eliya with Great Location - We stayed at this cottage during our visit to Nuwara Eliya for the musical show Naadhagama. Overall, I would rate the stay 9/10. The room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with facilities to make tea or coffee, including tea bags, coffee sachets, and sugar packs. The bathroom was spotless, with hot water and decent water pressure, and the bed was very comfortable, allowing us to have a good rest.
The staff were very welcoming and maintained good communication, which made the stay pleasant. The location is also a highlight — conveniently close to the main road and popular attractions such as the Race Course, Victoria Park, and Gregory Lake.
- Kieran (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were so attentive and helpful. We were arriving in later than expected and they had food prepared for us. The breakfast was delicious. The location was perfect as well very close to everything. Couldn’t recommend the accommodation enough - really happy with the accommodation and again the staff were just so great.
- Alice (10/5): - Just the right amount of distance to walk into the city centre.
Very clean, safe, generous sized room.
Modern bathroom.
Spotless..lovely calm and peaceful vibe.
Very helpful and cheerful hosts.
- Jignesh (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrius (3/5): Avoid until mold issue is resolved - - The whole place seems to have a serious mold issue. It looked like they even tried painting over the mold in some places, but that’s not how you get rid of it...
I noticed it on the ceilings in the room I originally booked. When I asked for a different room, I was told that all rooms are occupied or booked, but after bringing up canceling my reservation I was shown 4 unoccupied rooms and they all had the same mold issue on ceilings.
Before I received the key to my room, it was sprayed with an air freshener, likely to hide the smell of mold.
Since I only booked 1 night there, and canceling was not possible, I stayed and saw the water leaking down the walls when it was raining.
- Hashanthi (10/5): I've always loved the idea of staying in a cottage, and I finally got to stay in one in here. - Location and quietness were the 2 best parts about this stay. The room felt so cosy and warm, comfortable beds, and a great little TV in front to pop on just before bed.
- Niroshan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gaven (9/5): Superb - Great location and walking distance to everything. The room was spacious.
- Kanani (7/5): Good -
- Jimmy (8/5): Very good -
- Ron (7/5): Great manager and staff - After a long day from Colombo and arriving at Unique Cottages, after realising we booked the wrong night thankfully the manager came to our assistance and honoured our booking. For this we were very grateful. Breakfast in the morning was to our liking and all staff were very accommodating to our needs. This place is not luxurious but sufficient for overnight stays.

- M8645GTms (10/5): Highly recommended for a honeymoon - I had an unforgettable stay at the Unique Cottages in Nuwara Eliya. The rooms are impeccably clean and beautifully decorated, blending modern comfort with traditional elegance. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring every need is met with a smile. The on-site restaurant serves delectable local and international cuisine, with dinner being a highlight. The hotel’s proximity to key attractions like Gregory Lake and Hakgala Botanical Gardens makes it the perfect base for exploring. Highly recommended for a peaceful and luxurious getaway!
- Rizmy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maps719844 (6/5): Good for an overnight stay, quiet and central. - Quaint little B&B in central Nuwara Eliyah built in the traditional British style of the town. Rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast and dinner need to be preordered but were sufficient. No minibar or alcohol available on site. A short walk from town / markets. I would've chosen something more lively but this was booked by my tour company.
- Kaluarachchi (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (7/5): Good - Excellent location: in a quiet street, walking distance from the city centre, near shops and restaurants.
Good beds.
Good shower. Rooms are a little outdated.
- Marie (8/5): Very good -
- robynkQ381ZB (6/5): Cute, quiet B&B close to town, racetrack and Lake Gregory with an old English vibe - Unique Cottages is very much in theme with the town of Nuwara Eliiya’s roots of being built and established by the British, in their traditional style.
It is like an old English cottage with high beams, cottage gardens, bookshelves, wooden stairs etc.
Dinner was selected from a set menu, The continental breakfast was excellent with fruit, coffee, toast and jams and a cooked component of sausage, beans and omelette.
The room and bathroom were both clean and spacious, room had a nice little balcony overlooking the street.
I liked it was close and walking distance to the main part of town, and lake Gregory allowing a walk to get to know the town a little.
There was only me and one other party of four staying, so as solo traveler I would’ve liked something more lively but if you’re looking for a B&B type arrangement close to town, this quiet place has the right ambience/vibe.
(Alcohol is not served and house rules do not permit consumption).
- Ajmeth (1/5): Absolute waste of money - The location of the Hotel was ideal as it is quite close to the city and had a decent enough view. The public areas were nice and it had a nice little well kept garden. The manager was unfriendly and cold until he realized my wife's family knew the property owner. The room was shockingly bad. This was the worst room I have honestly ever stayed in. I understand that it was essentially an attic, and I have actually lived in an attic room as a student myself but this room does not qualify to be a Hotel room, the property has also conveniently left out images of the attic it seems. The entrance step to the room is broken and not safe. There was lighting kept in place by tape! The bathroom had no ventilation and smelled terrible, the fittings were not up to a standard a Hotel should keep to, the tap waste water line was not concealed and you could see the water just come out and into the drain, the shampoo and shower gel dispenser were just keep on a very narrow ledge just above floor level with zero protection from falling and I was charged because it broke. Under facilities offered it also mentions that the room is soundproof which is a blatant lie, there is absolutely no soundproofing and everything and anything is heard from outside and I'm guessing people out can hear us as well. Truly shocking that this room is being sold as a Hotel room, their management needs to re-look at this and remove it from the room inventory. The service was also extremely unprofessional, one night when we wanted a bottle of water we tried calling the reception but there was no answer so we went down to the front desk and there was no one there despite us waiting there for a while, we then tried calling again while standing right next to their phone, and still no one bothered to come answer it.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Maithri (10/5): Great Place for a Stay in Nuwara Eliya - Great location in the heart of the city with close proximity to all key destinations and attractions in Nuwara Eliya. The property was kept very clean and the interior was well arranged. The food was good although limited in variety. The manager and the staff were very professional, cordial, and very accommodating. This will be the only place that we will look for our next visit to Nuwara Eliya.
- Ummomar (8/5): Peaceful stay - Nice boutique hotel. Service and amenities can be improved
Pros
Friendly staff
On time service
Clean rooms
Beautiful garden to relax in
Close proximity to the main attractions
Room for drivers
Cons
*electric Heaters not working
*Dim lights in some bathrooms
*If a menu of food that can be made by the cook is provided it could be helpful while making meal decisions
- Himani (8/5): Very good - Breakfast, the gu7y who served was very. kind. Manager for helpful as well.
- Greta (7/5): Good - The hotel is in a good location to reach more or less everything, it has a nice old style The rooms are quite old, in a high need of reconstruction, very noisy - you even hear all the normal conversations of the neighbors, the sink was leaking very bad which was fortunately fixed during our stay
- Peter (8/5): Nuwara eliya stay - Old british colonial style. The srilankan lunch we had was good on arrival. Location close to the town. The staff were very helpful esp the manager. The doors to balcony wouldnt lock and you could easily oush them open. Place is in need of a bit of refurbishment. We were served a very cold dinner and upon asking for it to be warmed up it returned the same. Was really indeble. The staff need a bit more training. There was a dangerous hairdrier in the bathroom.
- jnikhilesh (10/5): cute - It is a small hotel but very nicely done. It is super quite and exactly what we needed . Enjoyed every bit of it. Stayed only for a day. The staff was very helpful and professional . Will certainly recommend
- 169susib (10/5): Amazing - This is my 4 th stay here, amazing place to be, clean, the most nicest staff and so helpful, most of all the place is so quiet and exactly what I needed,
We ordered a rice and curry for lunch, one a the best rice and curries I’ve ever had, oil free and so healthy, will be visiting soon again,
Makes us feel at home!
- Moloy (7/5): Good -
- Suranga (7/5): Good - Room with balcony
- Nimali (7/5): Good -
- Dissanayake (9/5): Superb -
- AR123Scotland (2/5): Pyatshaw Burn Cottage, near Lauder - We had a nice stay at the cottage however this was ruined by being wrongly accused of breaking the bathroom window handle off by the owners. It would have taken a considerable amount of force to actually break it off instead it came away when we were closing the window as can happen with wear and tear items.
We've stayed at many rental properties across the world and have never had any issues and hassle like this before.
We had a lot of upset trying to get our deposit back and the communication and help from unique cottages was very poor, they don't respond to emails. We were eventually only given a portion of the deposit back and not the full amount.
We would NOT recommend staying at this cottage but it you do be sure to check all of the wear and tear items such as window handles, toilet, shower, carpets, appliances, fire etc as soon as you arrive and report straight away to unique cottages with photo evidence to avoid the same treatment that we received from the owners. You shouldn't have to do this but we deem it essential!
The property was also damaged by a recent storm and it kind of felt that we were almost paying the price for this.
- Benas (10/5): - Perfect place and service :)
- manojc637 (10/5): Privacy and peace of mind - Super location and it's highly recommended for anyone who is visiting NuwaraEliya and expected have privacy and peace of mind. Very close to the city and the staff is very helpful and friendly. specially thanks a lot to the manager Mr. Mahadi, keep up your good work.
- ravindur2015 (2/5): Waste of money and holiday - Think twice before you book this property
when i was going to book their property they gave me two choices one room with balcony and the other one with jacuzzi, i wanted the jacuzzi room and i booked the room with an advance. we checked in to the a small room with small washroom which you can’t spread your hands and there were used soap with sand and hair nicely packed, first night were unable to use the jacuzzi after the next day morning were trying to use the jacuzzi.we filled the water and turned on the jacuzzi when i started jacuzzi lots of rubbish pumps into the water and we were unable to use jacuzzi i informed them but they were unable to gave me a proper solution.without jacuzzi it’s just useless for paying huge price for tiny little room you can get a big nice room for less price in another hotel.
- 007imranh (8/5): Relaxing stay at Unique cottages - Booked for two nights on half board basis at the Unique cottages in June just after the reopening of the lock down. Had a very relaxing stay. Things had not returned to 100% normal given the reopening was just a few days back. The staff were very kind and helpful, meals were also nice. Hotel amenities preferably would require a refurbishment but can be passed for the moment. Being very close to the town made the location ideal for short walks to the town. Enjoyed the stay and would be definitely returning
- jenniferj694 (4/5): Desperate need to renovation - The location is good, but the hotel is in need of renovation and everything is quite dated.
I had a bubble bath in my room, but the cleanliness wasn’t great. There was no actual shower so I needed to stand in the hot tub. The toilet was on the other side of the room, which was also not very practical.
Breakfast was good.
- lesley486 (6/5): OK for a night - Very pleasant and helpful staff. Good location. Quirky room layout. Septic smell in bathroom. Close to town.
Environmental:
Suggest reverse osmosis or other filter system with reusable glass bottles versus single-use plastic. Also, suggest refillable dispensers for shampoo, etc.
- SaffJM (6/5): Okay for one night - I am a solo female traveller stayed one night passing through to get the train to Ella. Great location for the town and very close to The Grand Indian restaurant up the road which is perfect for lunch or dinner, a solo traveller and not expensive. They house also offers a small dinner menu in case you do not wish to go out. There is a communal seating area between the bedroom doors which was noisy but after politely asking them to keep the noise down it was fine! Breakfast was okay a bit slow but wasn’t rushing anyway and basic but all tasted fine. Lovely staff and welcoming.
- johnwisemancork (10/5): Great location - ** Great location, close to lake, and post office and within walking distance to the town, we had lovely room with jacuzzi and staff were very helpful. Breakfast was delicious also, highly recommended **
- coletten892 (6/5): It was ok - This hotel is alright for just kind of crash and dash sort of thing, the food in morning wasn’t the best and neither was the customer service. However, the rooms were clean and the house was very cozy. It’s nothing special but a functional hotel.
- wanderingfernando (10/5): The most coziest holiday - We went to nuwara eliya just for 1 night and came across Unique cottages. The rooms and toilets were clean and spacious. They served us breakfast and it was beyond expectation. A lovely spread and lots of variety and so accomodating to each of our individual needs.
The space was so cozy and homely and everyone was ever so friendly. Another plus point was the location as it was very close to the main road and easily accessible to the city.
Highly recommend the space. Loved the hospitality and definitely will be our next place to stay at when we return.
- ShaniKZ (2/5): Worst place -poor customer service - We had our stay at uniq cottages last December and this is worst place we have ever stayed .me and my husband stayed there for couple of days and we did not receive any kind of service from them .staff were very unfriendly and they have forgotten even to smile and their reaction was like we stayed for free of charge .Not worth the money we paid for this place .
Room was ok but i can not say it was spotlessly clean.we asked them to change our linens but they were not bothered to do that.we booked a room with beautiful balcony view as in the pictures but there were no beautiful balcony view it was just faced to main road with no view .
We were served our breakfast there.. can not complain about food it was quite ok but not too tasty to mention specially.
This was the worst place we stayed during our vacation and worst choice we ever did to book this place for two days .
We felt like they just did ruin your holiday after paying such amount of money to stay in a place like this .i would not recommend this place to anyone. Do not make your holiday a regret as we do.
There are so many beautiful places around there with good customer service at reasonable prices.
- 452camilac (6/5): A bit expensive for the place but good location - It’s very close to everything, on one side you have Gregory Lake and the other hand you have a town. Also 2 great restaurants (Grand Thai excellent and Grand India) a couple of minutes from Unique Cottages. The staff really good. We had a problem with hot water the 2 nights that we stayed. And double check before you book because my booking was a room in the attic and I knew just when we arrived. Also, we had to pay on our arrival
- F9292QSdavidm (6/5): Basic - This place was fine not awful, very basic amenities, use as a stopover en route elsewhere, it is near the Grand Hotel which has nice gardens to visit else no real reason to stick around. Nice garden out the front for tea, basic rooms and bathrooms
- Lindsay (4/5): More like 1.5 star - We stayed here 2 nights. 1.5 stars is more realistic. At $70usd per night it is overpriced like most properties in Nuwara. We had problems with no tv channels (second night same problem but then a new sky box was put in and we had tv, why wasn't this done the first night?),leaking roof in bath area, room safe didn't work, curtain had a foul smell coming from it and the whole place felt grungy. The breakfast was mediocre at best. Do yourself a favour and pay extra to stay in one of the nicer hotels in Nuwara.
- g (4/5): Hotel - The staff of the hotel is nice, however the hotel is not clean and you can barely open the windows.
The price of the hotel compared to its conditions is unfair.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable hotel! - It was storming at night, and water started leaking... My room was okay, but lobby seemed to be damaged> <
Other than that, room was clean and comfortable!
- Ripper (6/5): No electric generator broke down. - Heavy rains meant that the main electric was off for 2 days. Generator not working for 2 days, Problem with the panel I was told. No electric meant no water.
- Viktoria (2/5): Terrible Room - We booked for 2 Nights But left immediately as the room was not acceptable at all (mold in bathroom, loose cables, stinky). We wouldnt recvommend staying there! You dont get what You are paying for!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Godt mindre hotel - God service.
- Philip (6/5): Nice hotel if you like free street music all night - Terrible night with loud music in the streets that lasted past midnight! On top of it, they charged more than what I booked via Hotels.com. Still have to resolve this issue after I return back to the US!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Seriously overpriced - We stayed at UC for 2 nights with our 15 month old son. The entrance, welcoming and staff all make a great impression, the hospitality and customer service promise a 5-star experience. Probably our biggest mistake was to go for the attic room, which doesn’t stand a comparison to the other rooms - it’s old, dated, the carpet on the floor seems rather dirty. What bothered us most though, was the number of loose, sharp or otherwise dangerous objects. I appreciate that hotel rooms aren’t child-proof, but this one was simply one big toddler trap. Our son badly hurt his head in the bathroom, later the fan collapsed over him, he also got a bad rash from the bed sheets (they smelled heavily with softener)… no need to go into further detail, I wouldn’t complain if the room cost half the price but at the given price I consider it quite a rip off. Our friends stayed in the area at the same time for 25% of our rate and had very similar conditions in the room. The plumbing in our bathroom seemed very old too, using the sink generated noises from the toiled. Admittedly, the bed was very comfortable though. It’s a 10 min walk to the main street and most bars/shops. The WiFi was OK, the breakfast was lovely and staff went out of their way to please the Guests, but for us this definitely isn’t going to be a nice memory and the bill leaves a very bad aftertaste.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely guesthouse in a small town. Friendly staff.
- Helen (2/5): Awful, damp accommodation - This accommodation flaunts itself online as being more modern as well as being larger. There is no correlation whatsoever between price and quality. The service was atrocious. It took 30 mins to serve a simple breakfast, when only one other family was in The dining room. The room was damp, with mould on The bedroom ceiling and bathroom walks and smelled awful.
