Guest Reviews
- George (10/5): - The staff was fantastic. Great breakfast in a serene setting. Pictures suggest it is isolated on a hillside somewhere, not exactly the case. Great place though.
- Belal (10/5): - Chris and Luisa were amazing they make you feel home great breakfast, I highly recommend it
- Rachel (10/5): - Such a lovely place run by really nice people who are eager to please. Quiet and beautiful. We he rocking chairs are so great and the breakfast is superb!
- Monty (10/5): - Milena was a wonderful host! Super friendly people and a great breakfast!
- danita (8/5): - The two Costa Rican ladies that were ttherewere incredible. I understand the owners are from Peru which is way cool. But neither one of them spoke an ounce of English. I was able to communicate with them via Google translate and they are both so very kind and sweet and welcoming. The listing says they have a spa but they have no spa. No TV in our room. But. The place is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful views from the edge of their yard. Coming in and out could be very inconvenient. You pull up to the gate you reach through it put the key in the lock to unlock it then back your car down the drive because it's a big swinging gate. Then you pull in and do all the reverse to close it. Luckily she helped us as I'm handicapped. But I'm leaving at a higher review because I would definitely go back
- Steve (10/5): - We had a brief stay here but the staff was very kind to us. Lovely property. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was excellent. The only downside was the neighbor's dog, which they obviously don't control.
- David (8/5): - Casa Amanecer Bed & Breakfast is a beautiful property with a fabulous view and a very comfortable setting. The staff and the breakfast were fabulous.
The only downside was a very slow internet connection and no television in the room.
- Hector (10/5): - Breakfast, location
- Lyla (10/5): - We loved our one-night stay here. Melina was friendly and welcoming. There was a lovely view, the breakfast was delicious and generous and the room was nicely appointed.
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful
- Dileep (8/5): - Helpful staff
- Joaquin (8/5): Buena estancia. - Buena experiencia, muy amables los administradores, buena vista.
- Ernest (6/5): Nice people in a small B&B. - Very friendly and helpful people. The breakfast was great, and they helped order in food for dinner.
It’s tricky to find, but GPS helped. The rooms are small but comfortable. No hot water in the bathroom sink made shaving a no go.
- Doreen (10/5): - Friendly with a beautiful view. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful! Enjoyed our stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Main picture is bit misleading as its of the family living room / kitchen where guest's dont use. Room was fair quality for the price, friendly family who run it and a good breakfast.
- Andrew (10/5): Great location that makes you feel right at home - Great location. You wake up to chirping birds and step out to have breakfast in the courtyard. Super friendly family. Beds were a little small.
- Brianna (10/5): - Beautiful property and wonderful hostess. Perfect reprieve from our bust day of travel on our way from SJO to La Fortuna. Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and monkeys playing in the trees behind us.
- David (10/5): - Amazing people. Great good. Great view. Quiet and peaceful.
- Art (10/5): - We had a wonderfully amazing 4th stay at Casa Amanecer. We greatly appreciate the quaintness of this small and comfortable B&B. We use it as our stopover stay between coming from the southern provinces and heading to Guanacaste. The rooms are clean, the traditional breakfast is great and the service exceptional.
- Thomas (10/5): - This is a beautiful place. After a week of travelling around Costa Rica, this was a quiet and restful place to prepare for our trip home. The birds and butterflies were very busy in the morning, and the view is very beautiful. It is located less than one hour from the San Jose airport, and the town of San Ramon has many options for dining. The hosts were excellent, and a delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast was provided, including perfect gallo pinto. I highly recommend Casa Amanecer.
- zohara (10/5): - Amazing host that made us feel right at home. The place is very well kept, with cozy and comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. It's a great place to stay fairly close to the airport, on the first or last night in CR. We have stayed there a few times and plan to stay again on our next visit.
- Jonathan (10/5): Hidden gem - This was such a lovely place to start our Costa Rican roadtrip! Elena was such a wonderful host and we loved meeting her. The breakfast was delicious and the setting was really pretty. Thank you!
- Stephenie (10/5): Lovely terrace and garden for breakfast - We loved staying here. The host was so lovely. The B&B is in a regular neighborhood in San Ramon so the roads were all paved, and we got to enjoy a nice place on a hill overlooking the valley and hills. The Garden was filled with gorgeous flowers and birds and butterflies
and fresh fruit for breakfast.
We had the family room which was spacious and had an actual king size bed, not two twin beds push together, which is so common. Would stay here again.
- Ryan (10/5): Perfect Costa Rican Welcome! - Fantastic first night in Costa Rica. We arrived here quite late after a long flight from the UK. We were welcomed by Helen on arrival and she made us feel really welcome. Our first Costa Rican breakfast was delicious. The dogs were adorable too.
- Tatjana (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Amanacer and would have happily stayed indefinitely. Our room was very clean and comfortable in every way, and the owners were kind, welcoming and helpful. Every morning starts with a memorable sunrise view in a garden full of birdsong and fruit trees, and continues with a delicious breakfast on the terrace. We had our own key and could come and go as we pleased, but there was always someone available if we had a request or question.
- Oscar (10/5): - The view was awesome
- Heather (10/5): Very accommodating - Graciously appreciate host that was very understanding of our late arrival. Room was cute, clean and comfortable. Definitely coming back if we are ever around San Ramon again.
- Nagat (10/5): - Amazing staff, great location,
- Eric (10/5): - This Casa feels like a home. The sisters that manage it are so kind and welcoming. The rooms are very comfortable and you can sit in the garden and enjoy the nice breeze. There are some dogs that live there. If you don't want to see them, they will be locked away, but we found them adorable and sweet. This is a great stop if you are travelling from the Pacific coast to La Fortuna as it is roughly half way. There is an amazing restaurant nearby and we really enjoyed our meal there.
- Beaux (10/5): - Very safe property and very kind host. Would absolutely stay again, muchisimas gracias!
- Petya (10/5): - Absolutely amazing. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great location, beautiful views, quality sleep and food, and excellent hospitality.
- Martin (10/5): - Helen is extremely kind and hospitable! Beautiful place!
- Mihaiela (10/5): - We had a great experience staying at Casa Amanecer. Helen is a great person. We love everything. We recommend anyone to go to San Ramon
- Joshua (10/5): - Great place. Great stay.
- Erin (10/5): - Casa Amanacer is a jewel with the most lovely hostess, best breakfast and excellent accommodations. Hummingbirds are a special treat. We stayed twice on our trip and look forward to returning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Calm, welcoming oasis - Casa Amanacer was an amazing, welcoming oasis. We booked a last minute stay due to unexpected travel complications, and we were welcomed with open arms. Helena provided a calm, comforting atmosphere and was extremely helpful over the course of our stay. She provided recommendations in the area, cooked great meals, and helped us arrange a local excursion. The rooms are beautiful and clean, and the common areas are the same. We ended up staying an extra night because we loved Casa Amanecer so much!
- Rebecca (10/5): - This is such a cute bed & breakfast located only about 30 minutes from the popular coffee area of Naranjo and artisanal shopping town of Sarchil! The property was super clean, quiet, and serene with such an amazing view of the mountains. The staff treated us like family and cooked us homemade meals for breakfast and dinner (upon request). Traveled with our 1yr old son and he also had a blast (nice little grassy area in the common area to run around and he loved the two little dogs, hummingbirds, and butterflies). Great temperature in this area with high 85 and low 65 at night (visited during rainy season in June- rain started around 2-3 every day).
- Derek (10/5): Amazing - We arrived late from a long day of travel and we were met with a warm smile and clean accommodations. The lady that was running the bed and breakfast stayed up and talked with us, brought us water and coffee, and made sure our accommodations were prefect. In the morning the fresh breakfast was a perfect start to the day. I would 100% recommend staying here
- Pilar (10/5): - Helen and her staff are wonderful. They were accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Needs a bit better signage so you can find it as it is hidden in a long driveway and the winding road makes it difficult to see which one is the correct entry. Once you are there you will be charmed.
- julie (10/5): - Wonderful little B&B. Gracious host. Fresh and tasty breakfast. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend!
- Heather (10/5): - Wonderful property, amazing views and the best host!!!
- Rueben (10/5): - The personal attention provided by the owner is remarkable. She cooked using local produce and recipes but with sensitivity to our limited knowledge of Costa Rican cuisine. Her attention to detail was complete. The property is small but carefully manicured and perfectly maintained.
- Douglas (10/5): - The hostess was very accommodating and friendly. The early morning sunrises were spectacular.
- Donna (10/5): Best of San Ramon! - We loved our stay! The hostess, Helen was amazing.
Breakfast was delicious and served with a nice view! We were traveling with a 16 month old baby and Helen did everything possible to accommodate us! Even adding to what meager food we had to eat the night of our arrival.
- Angela (10/5): - Beautiful little BnB on a mountaintop. Fantastic views and better service. The proprietor was extremely accommodating and gracious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I came back after six years to this hotel. The hotel is one of the best places to stay in San Ramón. The staff is excellent, and everything is simply perfect. I don’t give a 5-star rating to any place unless they deserve it, but this place most definitely deserves the 5-star rating. I definitely recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Well designed small family type of house on top of the hill.
Host Helena Diaz was very friendly and took care of us. I would definitely want to visit back this place
- Benjamin (10/5): Short Stay - Just Perfect - Our short stay was just perfect. Casa Amanecer is a little oasis to relax and enjoy. Breakfast and the fresh homemade juice were delicious. We would have loved to stay longer and highly recommend a visit.
- Felix (10/5): We will come back! - Great customer services. Love it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the BEST place we stayed our entire vacation. The host made us feel so at home and cooked the best food we had the whole trip!
- Donald (10/5): Nice place, great host, good breakfast - Casa Amancer is a very nice, comfortable place with a beautiful view of part of the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The host/owner is very kind and helpful, and she prepared a wonderful breakfast for us that we enjoyed while sitting on the patio and looking at the beautiful flowers in her yard. We enjoyed our stay and felt like it was a very good value.
- Beverly (10/5): Feels like home - Rooms are nice, hoping to a common terrace with a view. Bed is comfortable. Helen is so hospitable, and is a great cook as well! The property is a distance from town; suggest having a car or using a taxi.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - People are nice and kind. Food was good and timely.
Shower arm is very limited in length which limits to stay near the faucet to take shower. That is limiting condition and very frustrating
- Lynette (10/5): - A wonderful place to stay, warm friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the garden and views are beautiful. Lovely clean rooms, highly recommend! A bit hard to find as there’s no road name or postcode, so we used Google maps.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendliness of staff, location on not roads, beautiful scenery
- Dani (10/5): - A perfect idyllic getaway in small town Costa Rica. Elena was a wonderful host— showed us the bananas, avocados, herbs, and passion fruit growing in the garden. She helped us make a reservation at a hidden local gem restaurant that we otherwise would’ve never found. We LOVED our stay here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very cozy place run by Helen. She is very courteous and made sure our stay was comfortable. San Ramon is a good stop for the night if you arrive later in evening at San Jose and dont want to make trek in night time to Arenal & Casa Amanacer was ideal location. We even toured SR on our own with guidance from Helen. Not a 5 star place but breakfast was home made & fresh. Nice views, flowers, sunrise if lucky & bird sounds in the morning.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Great place.
The owner was very kind, friendly and nice.
- MarkLauchli (10/5): - The property was just north of the downtown. It was clearly designed by an architect who married local teak tradition with modern aesthetic. The gardens have banana, avocado, and mint. It's really a wonderful little bed and breakfast. The staff were adorable and made us feel like we were part of the family. I cannot stress enough how special they made us feel. The room and bathroom were extremely clean.
- Matt (10/5): - The staff at Casa Amanecer make sure you feel like a guest in their home; it is a very welcoming atmosphere. Breakfasts with views of the mountains are a fantastic way to start the day. We are already planning our next stay.
- Ralph (10/5): - We really loved staying at the Casa Amanecer and looking forward to going back in the future. The hotel room was clean and well maintained.
The two wonderful ladies were amazing and always wanting to do whatever they could to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Every morning, they had the patio breakfast table nicely set. They served a very nice breakfast with a fruit platter, scrambled eggs, etc. On other days, they served a very nice omelet.
It was great sitting on the rocking chairs, looking at the mountains and the landscape. It was really cool to see all the hummingbirds on the trees.
If you are looking for a nice room with clean bedding, operated by two wonderful ladies, this is the place to stay!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My whole family loved the hospitality of this charming beautiful home and their people.
- Bruce (10/5): - Awesome stay! The hosts were wonderful. The included breakfast was one of the highlights of our trip. When your host picks fruit from the yard to serve with breakfast, you know it is going to be good!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was beautiful. Incredible views from the terrace. The rooms are simple yet comfortable. There are no TVs but it really isnt an issue, only helps if you have kids. Wifi was good so the kids were able to watch videos. Breakfast was delicious. They really take care of you. We were in town just to visit family on the hospital, and the location was perfect.
- Joseph (10/5): Highly recommended! - Beautiful place, lovely hosts, perfect temperature, nice views, big and tasty breakfast.
- Mr. (10/5): - I love the home feel. Elena is a Gracious host and I love the dogs
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome hosts !!! - The two sisters were amazing. The place is great. It is not very difficult to find. Just follow google maps and you will be ok. We reached at around 11:00 pm as our flight got delayed. There was nothing open nearby. Those two sisters prepared very nice sandwiches for all of us. The next morning breakfast was EXCELLENT. And on top of that, fresh pineapple juice was amazing. We wanted to stay on our way to Arenal to cut the drive for the next morning and it worked out perfect.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly reception on arrival. Helpful advice from Helena for eating out in town.
No mini fridge which was inconvenient. We wanted to store cold water and juice. A small fridge would make a great addition.
No TV, though that did not bother us.
WiFi was good
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Mylena is super. Nice spot. Very calm. Nice breeze. Nice first night from san jose airport. San ramon is a nice villave near the casa
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hostesses were very warm, attentive and welcoming. The facilities are very well maintained and clean. The view of the mountains is spectacular. The daily breakfast with the most delicious tropical fruit and fresh coffee was lovely.
- Marty (8/5): - Wonderful host. Best place to stay in San Ramon, a city on the edge of the central valley
- Justin (10/5): - Staff was amazing. The room was comfortable and very clean. This bed and breakfast is probably the best place to stay in San Ramon.
- Charles (10/5): ¡Thank you Elena! - We loved this Bed&Breakfast. It was perfect for the first night of our week-long trip. We didn’t get to know the area well, but I can’t imagine staying more than one night. It was definitly not a “touristy” area. We arrived late(7:30ish) and we did not realize how difficult it would be to find the house. I’m sure in the daylight, there are visible signs but it was very complicated. We spent 45 minuets trying to find a house less than a kilometer away. But when we got there we immediatly felt welcomed into this wonderful country. Elena stayed up and helped us order pizza as we were very hungry from our travels. She also talked to us quite a bit, which meant a lot to all of us, including the kids. The room was clean and had an industrial modern touch. The next morning, Elaina had breakfast set up beautifully. I could tell she made an effort to incorrperate american food as well as introduce us to typical Costa Rican food. I definitely recommend spending a night at this wonderful home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): nice hotel in costa rica university town - we arrived after midnight and the friendly caretaker let us in, no questions or grumbling about the late hour. Beautiful, clean room, awesome view, nice grounds great patio. The caretaker prepared an amazing breakfast, chatted pleasantly in very good English, but she also appreciated our limited Spanish. we were treated like family. Can't say enough good about the staff, location, food, internet service and view!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Casa Amenecer is fine for a stop over and perfectly pleasant with a lovely view from the garden. It is however in a slightly difficult place to find on the outskirts of San Ramon.
- Robert (10/5): Excellent hosts - Very warm welcome, lovely friendly charming hosts who went out of thier way to make us comfortable and help us, Super breakfast outside in a lovely setting before we left, great spot handy to San Jose airport for arriving or departing Costa Rica.
- diane c. (8/5): Perfect starting point for our vacation - We stayed 3 nights and it was a lovely place to begin our vacation. My favorite Costa Rican meal is breakfast. Gallo pinto, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, fresh tomatoes, and avacado, too. Helen and her sister (staff?) prepared these in a tasty and gracious manner. Coffee to enjoy before breakfast, outdoor seating to watch San Ramon wake up. Helen is knowledgeable about the area and is easy to talk to. I fell in love with her little black dog. Our room was a little small, but for a B &B and short stay, it was fine. Did I mention outdoor furniture? Makes a world of difference.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely setting, great host, outstanding breakfast! - A warm welcome was given in this lovely intimate place, stylish rooms are set in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The home cooked typical CR breakfast was delicious, and plentiful too. Loved it!
- Steve (6/5): No rooms available - This should not have been stated as available on Expedia as there were no rooms. Payment should not have been taken at the time of booking.
- Derek (10/5): - Clean, friendly, copious breakfast. Better if you have your own car.
- Charles (10/5): - The grounds are beautiful with different types of fruit trees, lovely veranda to enjoy the view of the mountains. We especially love the sisters who run the place. They are quite attentive, making sure we were comfortable. We definitely would recommend this lovely bed&breakfast
- margaret (10/5): Comfortable and lovely - Our wonderful hosts(2 sisters) were kind and helpful
- Jeffrey (10/5): Nice place to stay just outside San Ramon - Nicely designed small B and B with just a few rooms. Lovely staff- smart, courteous and friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent comfortable family hotel - Wonderful host family, makes you feel like you are welcome guests in their home. Beautiful facility. Only drawback is it is outside of town and a bit of a hassle to get to.
- Leo (8/5): - The hotel is located above the city of San Ramon. We had a rented car but other clients told us they found taxis and the local bus convenient for transportation. The breakfast was wonderful as is the staff. A visit to Villa Blanca, off the main road to La Fortuna (Arenal) and over a partially paved road, is well worth a visit and especially a lunch if you are not actually going to stay there!
- Caroline (10/5): Beautiful in all ways - Very authentic hospitality, personal attention, and sincere extention of welcome. Love the business philosophy of community, connection, and social responsibility! Only teeny tiny wish was for an in room TV for watching soccer game.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very relaxing place to stay between traveling from one main destination to another. The outdoor area was great for reading a book and gazing into the mountains.
- Brandonandlana (10/5): Cool little spot in San Ramon - We loved the secluded location and the private parking. The included breakfast was one of the best we have had during our travels around Costa Rica. Would definitely stay here again. Tips for other travellers- This is a great stop on your way to Arenal from San Jose or Alajuela. It's not too hard to find (they have signs on the road) and there is a pizza place down the street from it that's pretty good :)
- Nilesh (10/5): - We decided to stop over for a night on our way from San Jose to La Fortuna / Arenal. And we made a great decision. The hotel was a perfect break, well maintained, great location and sight of Valley. Helen was extremely courteous and pleasant and made us comfortable.
- Israel (10/5): I love it!! - I love it!! Best petit hotel in Alajuela!
- May-Lynne (10/5): Beautiful serene view - quiet area. - Close enough to be convenient, but not close enough to walk. This is for good reason - it's a beautiful secret getaway from the town of San Ramon. It's perfect for relaxing and it makes you want to or leave the grounds! Breakfast is delicious and the hosts are the most friendly people. They'll help you with any needs or concerns! The pizza place nearby is also delicious.
- Retired couple (6/5): Basic B & B in typical CR neighborhood - Basic B & B with gated entrance. In typical CR neighborhood, close to road. Comfortable accommodations for the price. Ok for one night stop over. Excellent typico breakfast. Elena sweet, welcoming and helpful.
- Emma (10/5): Perfect little hotel, a little way out of town - Gorgeous clean and well equipped modern rooms. Very friendly staff who were willing to assist with everything and made a great breakfast! Only thing to bear in mind is that this place is a little out of town so most suited to travellers with a car or who are happy with a longish walk/to take a taxi into town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet place to rest. - Very restful place The place is great if you want to relax after from everything. The hostess is very receptive.
- Lynae (10/5): Vey nice B&B - I saw the photos posted of breakfast on the veranda and knew that's what I wanted to do. Stay and enjoy the outdoor terrace at this B&B. It met all expectations and more. What a lovely home and such a welcoming hostess. Very comfortable room with modern facilities. Quite relaxing.
- Beverly (10/5): Weekend getaway. - Really enjoyed our short stay and plan on returning. Only problem we had was with parking as we drive a large vehicle but were able to park on neighbors property and all was safe.
- Isabelle (10/5): Great B&B. Wonderful breakfast, quiet place. - Great place. Watch hummingbirds while having wonderful breakfast prepared by Helena. All organic food, coffee is grown by Casa Amanecer and is excellent. Very relaxing place.
- Toni Krogh (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing stay - The proprietor was so friendly and helpful and her English was very good.. The breakfast was great. I would highly recommend Case Amanecer and would return again. This B&B is outside of town, so if you want to get around, I recommend renting a car.
- Michael (10/5): Very nice B&B near San Ramon and the air port. - Really great place. Helen the host was first class. very hospitalble and friendly. Rooms were very nice and clean. Food was great. Close to town but hidden away and pretty quiet.
- Mike (10/5): What a terrific find in San Ramon! - What a terrific find in San Ramon! This hotel has a really attractive, minimalist design. Really cool architectural details. It's a very cozy place to bed down if you are looking for a jumping off point to explore the region (lots of cool hiking up north in Los Angeles del Sur or Villa Blanca) or return to SJO the next day.
Accommodations are so lovely and because the hotel is nestled up on a hill, you get an amazing view of the nearby mountains and valley below. Really lovely at night.
The place is great but it's the hosts that steal the show. Chris the owner was patient and answered all my questions quickly via email, and he even helped me get a great car rental through Poas (you can visit their site for car rental info). Helena and Javi are the caretakers and they are utterly amazing and thoughtful. You'll come for the hotel, but stay for the hospitality.
Helen and Javi always had smiles and were so attentive to every request. They make a terrific breakfast buffet that changes slightly daily, and you can enjoy their delicious meals outside while admiring the view and enjoying the breeze. They'll help arrange travel and go out of their way to help you. They are unforgettable and lovely.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Such a terrific, unique place.
