Guest Reviews
- Jill (9/5): Lovely staff and location - Staff were most excellent! Remembered my name. Kind. Food prices were more reasonable than restaurants within walking distance. Kava and music if you wanted. Sink just outside dorm. Pool and ping pong table. Tours possible or can get info on bus. In dorms - no lockers or lights per bed. No fans. Path down to bathroom wasn’t ideal at night. When temps are cool, dorms are nice with no A/C needed. When hot, so are dorms.
- Nancy (6/5): The rooms were spacious and although dated were comfortable. Had we had electricity throughout the day, our stay would h - The location and the view from our room (the treehouse) No electricity between 11am-4pm, the hottest part of the day. Besides breakfast, the Restaurants meals were unpleasant.
Vina'a vaka levu & Moce
- Markus (10/5): Everyone was so nice and friendly, truly felt like a family here :) - Everything :) /
- Lucile (8/5): -
- Amber (7/5): - The location is great, close to the airport and to the dive centres. Lots of communal space and nice pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only one bathroom for use of the people in the dorm, very few plug sockets on the dorms and thin curtains that let in a lot of light. They switch off the power for a few hours during the day.
- Klaus (9/5): -
- Maude Guo (6/5): Amazing staff, bure infested with millipedes - The staff is kind and helpful; kava nights happen every night so easy to taste the infamous product Bure 10 was infested with millipedes. I killed 5 to 15 daily and they crawled in the beds, it was disgusting. I told the administration and they sprayed some strong smelling thing and it repulses the millipedes for a few hours.
- Julia (8/5): Beautiful lodge with lovely people - just some improvements needed - Maravu is a beautiful place. I loved the shared spaces, the gardens, all the flowers and fruit around. It is well situated, only 5min walk to the beach.
The music and kava nights were great, it really help create more of a group atmosphere. I especially appreciated Kali's music and generosity! (not sure I am spelling his name right).
Most of the personnel is lovely.
The people staying at the lodge were all really lovely and it was one of my best dorm experience (respectful and quiet people) and my favourite time in Fiji so far. The bathrooms were quite dirty. I wish they would clean the shared bathroom more often. Also the layout with a toilet in front of the showers doesn't make sense. It is not enough toilets nor showers for a 8-bed dorm.
There is a 4-bed dorm that (to my and other's knowledge) doesn't appear on any booking website but that you might get booked into when booking the 8-bed dorm! The 4-bed seems better as the bathroom is attached, whereas for the 8-bed dorm we had to walk a bit.
As said earlier, most of the people working there are lovely, there is just of the ladies at reception who is sometimes nice and sometimes very cold and unbothered. I felt that I was annoying her when I asking anything, but then she would great other visitors so warmly.
The aircon in the room was working but there was no remote, so it would turn off every day (as they cut the power between 11am and 4pm) and we had no way to turn it on again. Every night we had to go and ask them to turn it on. I would expect that we either have a remote, or that they would just do it every day without us asking! They also put it on minimum setting and we had no way of changing the setting so it was quite warm every night.
The food is pretty nice, but the breakfast is as expensive as a dinner(30FJD), which doesn't make sense. And it is not 15FJD as advertised (except for just toast). They are not many people working in the kitchen so serving can be quite slow (once waited 30min for soup).
Wifi is super slow, you can't do much with it. It also turns off during the day with the power cut.
I often felt like there was quite a difference in treatment between the people who booked private accomodation and those who booked shared accomodation (mostly by that lady at reception).
The advertised tours don't really happen because no one signs up for them and you need a minimum of 3 people.
- Luis Baia (7/5): - Great place with lots of solo travellers Water leaking from the sink, never fixed despite my requests.
Food was just ok. Bar separate from restaurant, different bills, restaurant accepts card, bar only cash
- Sarah (8/5): Locally-owned lodge on lovely Taveuni Island - Friendly, locally-owned lodge with beautiful grounds, several cabins, pool, bar and an associated on-site restaurant.
Most evenings at least one musician performed, told stories, led sing-alongs and shared kava. The staff helped book activities - island tours, scuba diving and snorkeling tours with locally-owned dive centers. The staff offered to relocate us to a more accessible cabin when it became available (see below). Lots of interesting guests to hang out with. The lodge is generator powered. They turn off the generator from 11 am to 4 pm every day. Cabins heat up during that time making them hard to cool off later. Because we booked a 2-bedroom cabin, we unknowingly were assigned to a rental home on the top of the hill. The home is lovely, but needs more fans, especially in the kitchen. More importantly, a long, very steep, muddy, 4x4-only road was the only access. This inhibited our activities, although the staff were generally prompt in providing transport.
- Wallington (9/5): - Maravu was a lovely place to stay, the grounds are beautiful and having the affordable option of a dorm room helped a lot! The staff here make maravu as special as it is as they are so friendly and happy to help with anything
- Linda (10/5): - The nature and proximity to everything
- Benedikt (10/5): Great stay at maravu! - Nice accommodation!! /
- Denise (10/5): Beautiful surroundings, wonderful staff -
- Lesley (9/5): Great communal areas in good location - The staff were wonderful and the communal areas and garden are beautiful. The food in the restaurant was great - they only had a small vegetarian dish to start on my first night but they made a big effort to make sure I was well catered for my remaining nights. I stayed in the dorm and unfortunately the bathroom/shower for the dorm needs improvement.
- Kristin (10/5): - Wonderful location and very nice team! I stayed in the 4-bed dorm which was spacious and sparkling clean. There are lots of activities offered and it´s easy to connect to other travellers in case you are travelling by yourself. The team is very supportive and is doing their outmost to make your stay unforgettable!
- Han Ru (6/5): - It’s conveniently close to the airport and the beach and the restaurant food is quite good. The generator will be switched off every morning from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is because even the electric fan isn’t functional and the room becomes too stuffy for a comfortable night’s sleep. During power outages, showers are even unavailable. These outages are a regular occurrence but the website doesn’t provide a full explanation.
- Namron (9/5): Maravu Getaway - Staff were very accommodating, the peace and quiet was excellent 👌 Not really
- Ila Reddy (7/5): Wonderful stay, economical compared to other options in Taveuni. With good tie ups with transport and tour companies it - Well-located, friendly staff, lots of tours on offer. Breakfast was delicious! Main meals at the hotel cafe could have been better. The management is a bit lax, could be more efficient with attention to detail.
- Eroni (4/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): I would definitely stay here again. - Large room great staff good location good food No power between 11:00am and 4:00 pm.
- Jamie (10/5): Unplug and relax in this charming Fijian lodge in beautiful Taveuni - Amazing stay in Taveuni! Just a short drive from the airport. The check in process was easy and we got to relax in our Bure right away. The room was spacious and we had an amazing beach view. We especially loved the outdoor shower. The day we inquired about going to Rainbow Reef we were able to get out right away and got to spend a few hours seeing fish and manta rays. We enjoyed a few meals at the restaurant and were satisfied every time. The menu changed every day so we got a lot of variety. There are a few cats that hang around to help you finish your dinner. We loved the nightly Kava time with Kali! He really made us feel at home and had some great stories every time. Due to the place running on generators from 11-4 every day the power is off. Not too big of a deal, we just planned to be out exploring the island during those times. The WiFi only really works around the reception area.
- Harald (3/5): Rundown resort with much potential - Staff was friendly and helpful. Good location near airport and some views of the water. Good for budget conscious visitors. Misleading information online:
Hot water and Power (and therefore AC) are not available from 11am to 4pm because the generator is shut off.
WI-FI is spotty depending on your unit and at best is slow and occasionally kicks you off.
The meal prices listed are not accurate and reflect the lowest possible option on the menu.
Dining hours not posted anywhere and the stated schedule is not kept.
Resort is run down and needs lots of maintenance. Some serious cleaning would be a good start, but there's many issues:
1st night in a room far away from the lodge had moveable slat windows that difficult to operate and wouldn't all close and huge rips in the screens to allow plenty of mosquitoes in.
Lighting is dim or inoperable in both units we stayed in.
Floor boards were poorly fastened and risked pinching your feet on them.
Couches and chairs in lobby area were stained and ripped.
- Maurice (7/5): - The staff and the location We needed a 4x4 to get to our villa right at the top of the property.
Also the generator power shuts off from 10am to 4 pm.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Susan (8/5): An oldish style resort and priced accordingly. Near the sea for a snorkel. Friendly helpful staff. - Just walking distance downhill from the Airport. The Dorms were clean and I had a little cabin with my own shower. The gardens and beautiful and you can snorkel on the sea in front of the resort.
They have lots of tours you can book into.
There are two other restaurants in walking distance but the food is good and fresh in the resort.
Bring cash as it’s a FJD$60 round trip to the only ATM on the island. Many of the tours want cash.
Staff are friendly and helpful All good at this place for the cost of the accommodation
- Radia (8/5): Beautiful place, close to nature - The staff is super friendly and the place is beautiful. Options for dining nearby are limited in case the restaurant at the lodge is closed. P.S. Lots of insects get inside the room, so make sure you're okay with that.
- Genevieve Marie Francoise (6/5): -
- Georgia (10/5): Relaxed, comfortable resort, with very friendly staff. Beautiful views! - Wonderful stay, with staff that really made the place feel like home. Fantastic if you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax and enjoy some time away from the world. The staff knew all of the guests by name and seemed genuinely interested in making sure everyone had a good time; we certainly appreciated the music and kava in the restaurant every evening. Great food at reasonable prices, and comfortable spacious rooms. When we return to Taveuni (which we will!), we'll be staying here again.
It's more moderately priced compared to some other resorts on the island so I expect there are some luxuries that we may have missed out on, but if you are looking for some peace and quiet, a nice pool, and opportunities to see some beautiful places, and make some good friends along the way, you really can't beat Maravu. Excellent value for money, but more importantly, we enjoyed our stay very much.
The view from the treehouse is spectacular, if you are willing to make the climb. Well worth the extra muscle use!
- Leilani (6/5): It was OK. Most of the staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and courteous. - Beautiful grounds. The fact that there was no electrical power from 11 AM to 4 PM daily was a major inconvenience. There wasn't enough lighting in the room. The food was just OK. The requirement to pay for a towel to take to the pool is ridiculous.
Much deferred maintenance noticed in the buildings.
- Prateeksha (9/5): The grounds are so beautiful (beyond expectations), and the staff is incredible! - Everyone on the team from Kara, Laisani, Kali, Emma- were so warm, amazing, helpful, and kind! They work so hard and approachable at any moment. The beautiful evening singing and kava adds so much to the environment, and brings other guests together that otherwise might not have interacted. An attached or closer shower for the dorm rooms would be great. The main bathroom in the dining area gets a bit unkept bc its used by dorm + dining area guests.
- Carole (8/5): Enjoyed our stay! Bure was spacious and comfortable. The issue with the AC was resolved timely. - After getting used to the ‘nature’ experience that Maravu offers it was great. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great experience- we will return if we get to Fiji again! WiFi did not work at our bure
- Naulumatua (9/5): -
- Darren (10/5): - The Bure's are fantastic, set far enough apart to give space. Beautiful wooden floors and outside shower.
- Anis (10/5): - Excellent location and ecological practices
The food was very good and reasonably priced
The staff were very friendly and helpfull
The external activities proposed were very well organized with Excellent guide
This place is great for a relaxing vacation with plenty of activities to do around. Also several good eating places around.
This place is great value. Highly recommend
- Mary (8/5): - loved the staff. the room was beautiful and great location no change of linen or room service in 4 daysv
- EL SOVAU (10/5): Maravu New Years experience - Lovely stay at Maravu — welcoming staff, relaxed atmosphere, and a beautiful tropical setting. Great value, comfortable accommodation, and easy access to Taveuni’s natural wonders. A genuine island experience with heart. No issues
- Barbara (8/5): This is an Eco Lodge. It was over-the-top for Value for Money. The day trips were fantastic. - Food was very good and The Daily Board had different options for dinner everyday. This place was over the top for Value for Money
- Kate (9/5): Exceptional friendly staff and delicious food. - Great staff so welcoming & friendly. Delicious food, beautiful gardens and wonderful insight into the local culture.
- Sara (7/5): -
- Kathryn (1/5): - The staff help when told that they said something was included in booking.com Terrible service. DO NOT STAY HERE!. Did not help carry bags to room far up hill. Did not show room. Dead gecko and poop on bed. No power from 11 AM to 4 PM. Too hot to stay in room. Over priced and staff not friendly or helpful. Book an Airbnb!

- Timothy (8/5): Great staff, lovely location. Wouldn’t choose the same room again - The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The location is nice, well maintained gardens, and close to several eateries. The Tree House is a little tired- doors that didn’t like to open, rotten bearers under the deck. And shower heads that needed frequent readjustment.
Soap was provided, but no shampoo.
It’s sold as the more expensive room option, but definitely not the best room. We had upgraded before viewing our original room and, while it provides a great view and privacy, it’s the most tired looking room, it’s elevation requires a 77 step climb, and in comparison to the other room options, is not worth the upgrade price.
- Bryan (9/5): - It feels like living in a rainforest and yet only minutes from the airport, the beach and other restaurants.
Very large comfortable room. Staff very friendly and helpful. No electricity from 11 AM to 4 PM. At other times generator running, not especially noisy but odd given there are power lines running at the foot of the property
- Isabelle (8/5): -
- HarryLondon (8/5): Nice common area, but impractical dorm faciltities. - Beautiful decor in the common areas (I discovered that this building used to be a fancy hotel before it became a hostel) and swimming pool.
Good quality food for dinner. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm - the toilet/bathroom are a 50m walk in a different building. During rains, this is not practical.
There are 2 basins outside the dorm building for brushing teeth - totally exposed to the rain! How about putting a little roof over them?
The breakfast is over-priced.
Although large dorm, there was almost zero surface area to put your clothes etc no drawers, no lockers, no hanging space, no furniture other than the bed. So everything had to go on the floor.
- Qumi (8/5): Overall happy with stay in private studio - Private and close access to small beach Tiny ants in my bedding
- Qumi (9/5): Good location - Location Pool didn’t look inviting ? Colour of tiles
- David (9/5): Fiji Time - Bula bula,
A good place to stay for awhile. Super friendly staff made the stay enjoyable. Thanks to Cara, Claire, Ima and all the other staff members we did not get to know by name. Everybody was kind and super helpful! Perfect place for laughter, singing and dancing in the kitchen. Heartfelt thanks to Kali for sharing his local knowledge with us and making us feel special ... in the fruit yard, over the kava bowl and in song. Please dont touch my papaya - LOL
Keep up the love and laughter!
A great place to meet and get to know other travelers and like minded folks from around the world. Close by are some good snorkeling sites and beaches for swimming in the Bay.
For divers there are 2 dive shops within walking distance. Salt Divers and Reef Life (new). There is also a third dive shop a 10 minute drive away.
Very convenient to get to and from the airport in Matei, only a 15 minute walk.
Would surely recommend this to anyone staying on Taveuni, either as a starting point or jumping off point to this fabulous Island.
Would definately stay again on our next return.
Vinaka! The food at the restaurant there could be at a lower cost. Many of us stayed in the dorms to save money, but paying for the food somewhat counter acted this savings. But the food served was tasty..
- Zur (10/5): - Prime location, wonderful hospitality. Bar & kitchen can be improved.
- Tommi (10/5): Mahtava kokemus, todellakin rahalle vastinetta.

- emma (9/5): So nice I stayed twice - This was my second time staying at Maravu Lodge. Much like last time we (couple+friend) had an excellent time. The staff are wonderful and friendly. We stayed in the treehouse which is a bit of a trek up about 70 stairs, the view is lovely at the top. Our room was clean even if the overall facilities were a bit rugged, that was ok it's a lodge not a resort and you'll have everything you need.
The attached restaurant divas delight serves 3 meals a day, prices are fair, the food tastes good and the portions are generous, the ladies working in the restaurant are lovely. The treehouse has many stairs to get to the top. If you are not able to do that don't book this room.
- Bianca BM. (9/5): -
- Nicklas Aaberg (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and helpful, making sure you have the best stay possible. The food and activites planned by the hotel was top notch as well. Had the best Kava/music in the evening too (Vinaka Rafa and Cali for the best Kava-times), in which you talk with the fijians and guests alike. I would definitely recommend anyone wanting to go to Taveuni to stay at Maravu Lodge Not much, only that my power socket didn’t work all the time. But they have plenty, so it was no problem.
- Yoder (5/5): Good facilities for price - Great location, close to airport Staff disinterested and unwelcoming, the generator turning off from 11am to 4pm made it very warm in the middle of the day with no air con. Hair in the food, prices were much higher than advertised.
- Valérie (8/5): -
- Kasper (9/5): -

- Wedgwood (7/5): Amazing staff. Went the extra mile to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. - Good value for money.
- Vincent (10/5): - Very Good ! Rapha and Ima was very welcoming and professional
- maaike (7/5): Price OK, resort mediocre. - Lovely communal areas with (old) table tennis, lounge area, etc. Well-priced activity options and friendly staff. No electricity between 11am and 4pm. Very poor WiFi. Resort a bit shabby with rather dark rooms and lumpy beds.
Pity the foreign owner doesn't reinvest his income in the upkeep of the property.
- Daniel (9/5): - Friendly staff and good organized activities. Lush and beautiful resort. Many mosquitos so make sure to bring bug repellent
- Eloise (10/5): - Endroit paisible et calme, personnel accueillant, à l’écoute et toujours présent.
Situé dans un lieu hors du temps
- Mille (9/5): Great for solotravelling - I loved my stay in Maravu. Staff is great, rooms clean and spacious, beautiful view and the porridge breakfast is really good.
The common areas are great for meeting other travellers and the kava and guitar is on every night. Pick the front bungalows as the generator is running at night in the back and gets pretty noisy.
- Gina (10/5): Maravu - Exceptional Authentic Experience in Taveuni - Exceptional Staff went over and above expectations. Location close to airport and beach. Nil
- piero (9/5): - Piccolo resort con piscina. Ottimi bure, spaziosi e puliti. Personale cortese.
- Charlotte (9/5): - Love the location. A quick walk down to the beach and a couple of different restaurants. Staff are friendly. And helpful.wifi is slow which isn't bad because less time online = more time enjoying Fiji. Our roo. Had s view of the sea from bed. And balcony. Loved the outdoor shower. It's not fancy or modern but I love it. Looking forward to our third visit.

- Allan (8/5): The staff were warm, friendly and accommodating. - Beautiful setting. Loved the layout of the room and the space between bungalows. There were replaced boards in the floor that lacked the strength and stability of the original flooring.
The internet was extremely slow and weak. The dining arrangements, while adequate, were different from what was advertised online. Online listing needs an update.
- Clare (7/5): Basic base for exploring the island - Great location and some really helpful, engaging staff who made us feel welcomed. The bure we stayed in needs a serious upgrade and that’s pretty much the same for all of the facilities, so it’s expensive for what it actually is.

- Ryan (10/5): - Loved this place! Tranquil and affordable. One thing is Wi-Fi is too slow to really do anything but starlink could fix that easily! I would get ~1mbps. Maybe we shouldn’t even need wifi but for practical reasons having a reliable source is nice.
- Mathilde (8/5): Very nice ! - The view from the villa was amazing. The pool is really nice. And the personal is helpful, especially the driver that was picking us up from the villa If you are booking the villa hilltop, you have to know it’s an Airbnb, very uphill from the main resort (villa, front desk). However, Maravu offers the pickup and drop off from and to the villa to the front desk.
Because it’s an Airbnb you won’t have any daily cleaning.
- Rosalia (8/5): Awesome -
Rien. Peut être une restauration un brin classique.
