Guest Reviews
- Mark (8/5): Great historical home - Loved the charm and history of the home. Breakfast was ample and the owner was friendly. Owner seems to be struggling with upkeep and the property is for sale.
- Carolyn (8/5): - The manager was very helpful with our luggage and parking. The building required a lot of maintenance especially on outside. The key lock on our room door was broken. Some concern about security as there was only one other party there although we didn’t see them.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Don (10/5): A delightful stay. -
- James (10/5): We had a good experience and got to make a friend of Robert. - It’s rustic and has 1900’s early American rooms, kinda takes you back in time. Robert, the proprietor, is very knowledgeable about the mansions history and the original owners design. Very quiet stay. It needs a few repairs but didn’t affect our stay. Being on the Historical Registry dictates any changes to the property.
- Judy (9/5): Comfortable, quiet room. Delicious breakfast and friendly host. - The breakfast was the best I have ever eaten at a hotel. The fruit was very fresh, and Robert prepared a delicious egg plate in addition to the other food. Beautiful music played in the background and the setting was lovely. Nothing.
- Leah (10/5): - Beautiful mansion with a wonderful innkeeper. Perfect location
- Justina (10/5): The Inn keeper and owner was so personable and kind. We had great conversation with him and he was so accommodating. - It was so cozy and comfortable. Nothing.
- Alena (10/5): Location convenient. The owner very friendly, kind and welcoming. -
- Satoka (10/5): - We stayed at this hotel on Christmas, and all of the restaurants and cafes around this hotel were closed. The owner found that we were so hungry and he supplied us his homemade dishes with cups of coffee and made the dining room warm. It was very heart-warming experience.
- NORMAN (10/5): A delightful treat in a historic mansion - Breakfast was wonderful. Robert our host was delightful and created a wonderful atmosphere.
- Ondrej (10/5): Great property and location - The room was spacious and comfortable. Even though there is no central air, the air conditioning units worked well. Breakfast was great - a hot sandwich with an assortment of sweets, fruit, and yogurt. It took a little longer than expected to check in.
- Terry (3/5): - Gas station sandwich would have been better Everything P
- James (8/5): We will go there again. - Robert was personable and cheerful. Gave tour and restaurant information. Guided us to picture books about the city. Carried our bags inn and out. Breakfast was wonderful. Nice piano music a breakfast. Beautiful old building. Like many small places, Robert has failed to clean out the air conditioner.
- Smita (8/5): - the location of the hotel is great. It’s a heritage site.
- Kerry and LaRay (10/5): A great night at a great place. - A beautiful historic place.
The owner/innkeeper was a very friendly man with a good sense of humor and made us feel very welcome!
I would stay there again! Nothing
- Joshua (10/5): Friendly and accommodating...highly recommend! - Very friendly and accommodating owners. My wife and I will definitely stay again!
- Brian (8/5): -
- Merlin (8/5): I would stay here again. - Location easy to get anywhere even walking in the downtown area. The TV didn’t work I was in the 3 floor back room.
- Molly (10/5): historic place to stay - Inn was as expected for a building built in the 1800s. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was really nice. The room and bathroom were very clean. Mobile air conditioners and fans kept the room cool. The chairs in the room were in need of new cushions, but other than that I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Inn keeper was nice and very easy to contact. Public parking across the street ($.50/hour during the day and free at night). lots of stairs, so keep that in mind if you're not too agile.
- Isabella (10/5): -
- leah (8/5): It was a great stay at a historical home. - breakfast was good. the room was cute. the desk was a bit worn. the room was clean and quiet. The cameras felt weird. I kept wondering if there was a camera in my room because there were cameras in all the other rooms.
- Shane (8/5): Will return - Innkeeper Richard, cinnamon rolls for breakfast
- Shane (10/5): - The vide of the place was great. It really made me feel like I was in a genuine bed and breakfast.
- Josh (10/5): -
- Shelly (8/5): -
- Harris (10/5): Wonderful. I will be going back to stay longer. - I loved the authenticity, history, and overall atmosphere. It was like traveling back in time to a turn of the century opulent mansion.
- Osten (8/5): -
- Julie (8/5): - Nice breakfast. Many spaceheaters throughout hotel.
- Chad (7/5): -

- Kris (10/5): This registered Victorian Mansion was such a sight to see. So much better than a hotel stay. - The bed was extremely comfortable! The house is so inviting and host made us feel right at home. Breakfast was delicious! Very close to Galena, and all the downtown sights. The price was unbeatable for such beautiful accommodations! I didn’t experience anything unpleasant.
- Chelsae (10/5): Absolutely amazing - Robert the Innkeeper was so welcoming. He has a sense of humor and a kind and generous heart. Delicious breakfast! Service was impeccable. We will come back as our favorite bed and breakfast experience.
- Ingolf (8/5): -
- Ivan (10/5): -
- William (9/5): I very much enjoyed my stay and Robert's attentiveness. It is a wonderful old building. Good sleep. - The historic atmosphere of the place was splendid. Robert, the proprieter was wonderfully enthusiastic and attentive. The breakfast meal was excellent. It is poignant to see conditions losing steam. The lamp was missing a bulb making things rather dim. The curtains were ancient and disintegrating. The ceiling heat lamp outside the shower couldn't be turned on because the knob was missing.
- Sarah (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful historic building! - Robert, the owner of Redstone did all the things, maître d, bellhop, cook, etc. He was gracious, knowledgeable, funny and attentive. The Redstone is a gorgeous building full of history! The rooms were comfortable and spacious. We would definitely stay again!! Nothing.
- Lyn (8/5): - We booked last minute, barely found it in the dark as signage wasn’t obvious. But Robert was welcoming and took our bags upstairs. He explained the keys, TV, brought us some ice and said breakfast would be at 8.It was good with plenty of choices.
- Sheryl (10/5): - The host was very helpful and congenial. We felt genuinely welcomed. The room was clean and cozy. Slept well and awoke to a freshly made breakfast with fresh cut fruit and pastries. Our host Robert greeted us with the days local newspaper and coffee and lively conversation with all in attendance. When we checked out he gave us suggestions when we asked what we could do or see in the area. He also extended an invitation to come back next time we are in the area which we would definitely do!
- Lori (8/5): -
- Michael (2/5): - This could not have been a worse experience. The bed and breakfast if thats what you would call it is disgusting. Its dirty, falling apart and a serious fire hazard. We did not even feel safe despite the 25 cameras he has monitoring your every move. The owner is creepy and inappropriate.
- Jenny (10/5): - The mansion was beautiful and decorated Victorian style. Our room had its own A/C unit and attached bathroom with shower and spa tub. Breakfast was a delicious combo of cold buffet and personally served hot ham and egg sandwich. The owner is a great host and happy to tell the history of the house and area. Located in downtown Dubuque and walking distance to restaurants.
- MARGRETHE (10/5): - O
- Erdmier (7/5): - Beautiful historical building. Great staff. Great breakfast.comfortable bed This house needs a ton of repairs there is water damage everywhere. Windows caulked shut. Art covering damaged walls. It just needs a lot of tender loving care.
- Rick (8/5): - Unique B and B. Had third story suite. Clean and large. Facility/rooms last updated + 40 years ago. Staff nice and accommodating. Just understand the mansion is old, needs updating but very cool.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Beautiful, clean, personal
- Elbrus (9/5): -
- Donna (2/5): - Couldn't get 2 towels without argument from owner When we said we weren't eating breakfast there he said we could have them. Room was awful, wallpaper seams were taped, carpeting very old and uneven. Building was very old and crumbly on outside.
We decided to leave. Owner kept trying to talk to me without my husband in the room. He called us cheap. It was unlike anything we've ever dealt with before!!!
- Todd (9/5): -
- Kevin (10/5): - It is a beautiful historic home. Great walkable location. Robert the inn keeper is delightful! We would, definitely, stay there again.
- John (8/5): - Great place to stay
- Terry (6/5): - Antique setting. No parking. Had to park on the street, was concerned car was going to be ticked and towed.
- Vogel (9/5): Robert was a great host, very friendly and appreciative of his customers, the building itself has a great charm to it an - I love the style of the building and they did a great job of keeping the building looking like it’s from the time it was built in! It was conveniently located close to the 5 Flags Center along with a short walk to the Dubuque Farmers Market too.
- Beth (10/5): - Beautiful, clean room with microwave, fridge and coffee maker. There was alsoba little basket of treats!
- Scott (10/5): - Robert, the owner, was exceptionally friendly and good-natured. He took the time to talk with us.
- Brenda (10/5): -
- Desiree (10/5): - We love staying here. Def recommend to everyone that comes to downtown Dubuque. The owner is super nice and the breakfast is absolutely amazing.
- Rebecca (10/5): - The room was very clean and it was very quiet.
- Frederick (10/5): Hope to return to this historic gem and town - Robert was very personable and friendly. He made the excellent breakfast. The fresh fruit, pastries, egg dish and excellent coffee were greatly appreciated! Cloth napkins, personal service was wonderful. We even had a Kuerig and snacks in our antique room.
Location to downtown was great. We walked to all our sites and especially enjoyed the art show in the park nearby.
- Barb (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ken (10/5): Another wonderful stay at this historic site! - We love staying here for the history and ambiance. Each room is unique and authentically furnished. The owners/operators (Robert and Kate) are very accommodating and friendly. The breakfasts are very good!
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -
- kristin (10/5): Great historical B&B - This is an historic B&B, it’s cozy and comfortable, like my grandmother’s house. The manager is extremely personable and helpful. Breakfast was at 8am, served hot with a wide selection of fruit, pastries, juices etc. Very much enjoyed my stay.
- SUSAN (10/5): - Great staff, very knowledgeable about the local history and friendly. Would definitely stay again
- Jan (10/5): - Our weekend stay at The Redstone was wonderful! The spacious room was perfect for two. It was great having the bathroom included with the room. We appreciated the large refrigerator and the snacks left for us to enjoy. The breakfasts, consisting of a hot dish and an amazing assortment of pastries, fruits, cereal and nuts were wonderful. Robert, the owner, was delightful and we loved hearing his stories of the mansion's history. We highly recommend The Redstone and can't wait to stay there again!
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Beautiful decorated and maintained 19th Century property. Provided a very simple hot breakfast with fruit and pastry in elegant dining room.
- John (7/5): Depressing. - Location. The place has seen better days. It’s shappy and dilapidated. There is some Victorian charm. But ultimately you are sleeping cheap and experiencing compromise with deterioration of the facility and economizing policies to keep the business generating some revenue and barely scraping by. Won’t return-too weird and demoralizing.
- Sharon (8/5): - That would benefit with some simple landscaping. The inside was clean and the owner was very nice. The only thing that would improve the room is taking down the peeling wallpaper and painting the walls instead. Some carpet removal and minor repairs would make this hidden jewel in the rough beautiful!
- Jessica (6/5): Clean but not what we expected - The building is slowly falling into disrepair. The outside looks like a dilapidated old mansion-not welcoming. The interior while very clean is falling into disrepair. All the wallpaper is falling off being held up by duct tape all over. Everything painted needs to be repainted-cracked, chipped, peeling paint. The curtains are insufficient for privacy. The owner was very kind, but there is an odd feeling no staff on hand but security cameras everywhere. Poor lighting due to missing lightbulbs gives an odd feeling to the hallways.
- Jean (10/5): - We were traveling with friends. This hotel was fun and different from the standard chains. The owner is friendly and funny! Our rooms were comfortable, location was good and we had a great time.
- Edita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Teresa (8/5): Charming and quiet - It’s charming and quiet. The owner is nice and breakfast was good. I wish there were more lights in the room.
- Terry (10/5): - Super clean. Innkeeper Robert very accomadating. So enjoyed.
- Marta (8/5): Redstone Inn Review - The hotel is historic and close to town. Staff was friendly and room.very comfortable. We were charged an additional fee of 3 percent for using a credit card which was not disclosed until check in.
Also our room was on the 3rd floor so lots of stairs.
The refrigerator was not turned on which we did not realize and this resulted in spoiled food.
- Pallabi (10/5): Excellent!! - Can’t appreciate this hotel enough! It’s like walking into a Victorian mansion & sraying there! Wonderful host, good breakfast, beautiful room! We really enjoyed our stay! We liked everything!
- Jensen (1/5): Not what we expected - The room was not in good shape with poor lighting and tape on the walls holding the wallpaper in place.
We were very uncomfortable with the room and did not stay. We left.
- Shawntelle (2/5): - Hotel rooms dated and dirty. Clear packing tape to hold up wall paper. Dust on all the furnishings. Cheap toiletries. Bed very uncomfortable. Breakfast was not good a hard biscuit sandwich and pre package cereals nothing special. Disappointing.
- Schmerse (10/5): The communication from Robert before and during our stay was excellent. The mansion is a very neat p - The communication from Robert before and during our stay was excellent. The mansion is a very neat place! Meals were great, room was clean, bed was great! Would definitely recommend it! Nothing
- Donna (10/5): Phenomenal property and staff. - The room, breakfast and staff were just exceptional! I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was. The temperature of the room was fantastic, the bed was so comfortable. Robert was so attentive, kind, and fun to talk with. He made all of his guests feel so welcome at breakfast and went out of his way to see breakfast was perfect and everyone was satisfied with their meal. The food was fantastic! The egg dish, fresh fruit and cranberry bread were amazing as was the coffee which was attentively topped off many times! Thank you Robert and Kate! We will be back and will highly recommend your beautiful, historic bed and breakfast. Absolutely nothing!
- Laurie (10/5): charming - room was charming and fit the time period of the house. Beautiful interior throughout the building. Only a block away from the Five Flag Center, easy parking. Owners were very nice and accommodating. Breakfast included a breakfast dish of egg and ham that isn't offered at other continental breakfasts. Will book there again
- Sarai (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerri (10/5): - We had a very good experience at Redstone Inn. The innkeeper accommodated us very well even after we messed up about our arrival date. He was very friendly. He greeted us at the door and showed us to our room. We received an upgrade to a suite the second night that was awesome. All the rooms were clean and equipped with everything you might need. The breakfast was delicious and the eggs were prepared and served upon arrival in addition to continental breakfast buffet that had many choices. We also liked the location. We were able to walk to restaurants in area. In all, we enjoyed our stay and would come again.
- Christine (10/5): - The place was very nice. Bed was comfortable. Nice and quiet. Very walkable to everything downtown. The breakfast was very good with many selections. Will stay again!
- Ann (8/5): - Robert is a very attentive host, friendly and service oriented. The building is really beautiful, but needs some TLC (ie wallpaper peeling, bed frame needs some repair). Gorgeous decor, historic with some Asian flare. Breakfast was wonderful, a mix of fresh fruit, pastries, juice and coffee, along with a plate of something hot - ham and egg on artisan bread. Soothing music and beautiful room to eat in. This hotel is close to downtown, easy walking to shops and restaurants, and the Fenelon elevator. Decent bed, shower, and a nice skylight in the bathroom. Good value.
- George (8/5): Good stay - Very nice and comfortable house. Very good breakfast. Robert, the innkeeper, was very helpful and accommodating and a good storyteller and historian of the area. No problems
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- CHARLIE (10/5): - Great host!
- Pat (9/5): Superb - Bob the Innkeeper was a delight.
- Tim (2/5): - To start with, the tv remote didnt work and the owner told me to download a app on my phone. Breakfast wasnt long enough, wallpaper coming off the wall and no heat.
- Trisha (10/5): - Fantastic last minute decision! Robert the Inn Keeper was fabulous. Breakfast was amazing. I would highly recommend staying here!
- Marlon (10/5): The perfect place in Dubuque - Fabulous old mansion , clean and very quiet.Perfect central location with an incredibly delicious breakfast.Lovely inn keeper Robert made it a special stay.Galena is about 20 minutes away. Everything was perfect.
- Pamela (8/5): - It could be so much better than it was. It’s a beautiful old building, but it needs some TLC. Our room had quite a bit of water damage to the ceiling and they basically tacked a piece of plastic over it. Wallpaper was taped up with duct tape. Parts of the main floor were very cluttered with brochures and posters that were mostly outdated. Bed was comfy. Breakfast was OK. The fresh fruit was great, but the egg sandwich thing was mediocre. I guess for the price I was expecting a little higher standard.
- John (10/5): - Beautiful Victorian house! Owner was very friendly and even gave us an upgrade for our room. It was very close to bars and restaurants. Walking distance for all of them. Breakfast was included and it was delicious! We'll definitely book again.
- Kathleen (10/5): Exceptional - Charming, clean, and cozy property in an excellent location. Robert was also the best!
- Shawn (4/5): Disappointing - Great idea, quaint The house is in disrepair and not worth the rate.
- Aleta (10/5): - Excellent hospitality
- Suzanne (10/5): Redstone Inn April 2025 - We had never been to Dubuque, and, had never been to a bed and breakfast. Our anniversary was coming around, so we thought this would make a great weekend trip; true enough! Robert is a great host! We hope to come back that way again. Breakfast was delicious, the conversations among people were lively, and the location is pretty great. Thank you, Robert! Thank you, Dubuque!
- Larry (10/5): A great stay in a great, historic setting - We had a great stay. Our host was as warm and welcoming as we've ever had.
- Alexandra (10/5): Amazing’ - The owner was great and so friendly! Very accommodating.
