Clean room It would have been nice to know beforehand that we were booking "off season" at this location. Most amenities were not available, and the one staff person was there from 8-5. Room t.v. was nearly inoperable, not a big deal. 8 a.m. breakfast was not available last 2 days.
Zachary (10/5): - I checked in using their after hours procedure and everything was perfect! They were very responsive when I locked my key in my room and were able to get me back in my room quickly. I love that they text you to make sure you made it to your room and they always remind you to come by the desk in the morning for biscuits and coffee. I usually stay there when I take courses at the NOC but I plan to bring my family back soon. The kids will love the game room and pool (in the warmer months). With prices comparable and often times cheaper than nearby lodging I will definitely be coming back!

Schell (6/5): - We have stayed at Nantahala Village Resort previously in the lodge and wanted to return for our anniversary. The Lodge is terrific. The cabin room where we stayed this time, not so much. I learned that the Lodge does not actually own the other cabins but does registration for them, so I don’t know how much control they have over maintenance and housekeeping in the cabins. That said, our stay in #14 was not up to our expectations. First of all, the view pictured on the website isn’t accurate any longer - two additional cabins have been built. Not a deal breaker but it was not what we were expecting. Secondly, though advertised with WiFi, there is none in the cabins, only in the lodge. Again, not a deal breaker, but not what we were expecting. The cabin on the inside was tidy but there was a lot of deferred maintenance: chipped paint in the room and bathroom, split wood on the bathroom door frame, a lamp that was very tippy on the right side of the bed and a switch on a lamp that was cracked and the electrical elements were open to the person turning the lamp on. Carpet also needs replacing.Exterior sidewalks were full of cuttings from the landscapers who were working on the day we checked in, but they never came back to blow it off the sidewalk. On the positive side, the room is very large with extra seating. Is well equipped with a small drip coffee maker as well as a refrigerator and microwave. It was nice to have a balcony to sit outside even with the compromised view.

lou (5/5): I would not stay here again, and I would not recommend others to stay here either - The room was big. We had a queen suite. And you could make it very dark at night. Sometimes hotels have lights that you can’t turn off like outside lights or TV lights that illuminate even in the darkness. I felt it was overpriced for what they offered. It is listed as a resort, but the restaurant was closed and the pool was closed. There was really not much going on, but they still charged you a resort fee every day. I complained about it, but they were not interested in giving me any kind of refund. The breakfast consisted only of coffee, which I didn’t think was very good and a biscuit stuffed with a sausage wrapped in a napkin, which did not look appetizing to me.

Just letting you know the stench was unbearable in my room and had to sleep with the door open. otherwise it’s a beautiful property. The management was nice about my complaint and said they would compensate me on my bill and then I will get a message about it. I’ve got no such messages and no discount. Despite how beautiful the hotel is I would never stay there.

Corie (10/5): We’ll be back, Nantahala! - Our stay was excellent! From the moment we made the reservation the hotel staff reached out to us and confirm and to let us know about the hotel. When we arrived, the manager was AWESOME!! She checked us in, gave me a tour, told me about the local amenities and every time we saw her she was friendly and helpful! The rooms were beautiful for it being a 1930-40’s hotel and we had no problems at all. The pool was relaxing and across the street is a great coffee/ice cream/bar and lounge. Super friendly folks there too! We had a fantastic time.

Verified traveler (4/5): Not As Expected… - We chose this place based on the reviews and the accessibility to the game room and the fishing pond for the kids. With the game room, along with the men’s bathroom and change machine, unfortunately the pool tables were also out of commission with one missing several balls and the other just simply taking our money with no way to recover it. The ping pong table and equipment have definitely seen better days but were usable. The game room stayed pretty hot during the day/early evening as the standard box fan near the door has trouble keeping up. The fishing pond is pretty difficult to fish from the bank, especially for a young kid, due to heavy vegetation, low hanging branches, and very steep slopes around most of the perimeter, as well as fallen trees in the water. Other than that, it was surprising that there is not someone at the front desk in the evenings/nights. Sometimes you may play phone tag if you have a question or need something. Room was fine and clean but for the price we expected a lot more out of the property and the amenities. The kids enjoyed a horse ride from the stables on the property but that was a separate cost. The guides down there were great.

Susan (3/5): Father's Day trip, 400.00 room cost, in the end I wish we had just stayed at home. Never again!! - The location is good. The sausage biscuits in the morning are good along with the hot coffee. The restaurant there is very good. We really enjoyed our dinner there on the first night! These two things are the ONLY reason for the 3. If not for them it would be a solid 1. The porch has a swing and rocking chairs if you would like to sit out and watch traffic go by. We were there in the heat so did not take advantage of those. The pool was nice and has a few different seating options. We were going out to sit by the pool when a storm came up and we did not get to even get in the water. Nothing the resort could control. It is a nice place however we will never stay there again and will definitely advise anyone who may be wanting to book there to find another place to stay. You will see the reason below. I do NOT appreciate the theft of my medication. I contacted the property and made a complaint. My husband said I should call the law and have a formal investigation. I didn't want to do that. I will go back to the beginning. We were leaving out and came back for a forgotten item. There was a pungent smell on our room. We went back down and spoke to the lady at the desk. We told her about the smell and asked that someone take care of it. She asked if maintenance could go in while we were out? I said yes because we were on a very short stay and we wanted to go exploring. We have cruised, stayed in other countries, traveled across the US and I have NEVER had meds stolen. We came back in. We had strawberries in the little fridge and they were on top of it. Someone had eaten one (not a problem) and thrown the top in the toilet. My husband questioned me about it. I told him I would not put a top in the toilet as I was raised to throw things such as this in the trash. Then he saw one of my blue pills on the floor and questioned me about that. I had just had these pills refilled and 37 of my pills were gone. They are not THOSE blue pills so I truly hope whoever took them got a shock when the effect hit them! There was also xanax stolen which I get. I came home and laid them out on my dining table in rows. That is how I know it was 37 pills short. The one in the floor was thrown away by me. Considering that the racks out of the fridge were on the back of the toilet which is totally gross I sure was not taking a pill that had been in the floor. I do not know if housekeeping or maintenance did this and truly don't care. I took pictures and sent them to the night manager. I still have the text that was sent with the pictures. My doctor refused to do a refill for 37 so I will struggle for 19 days when the time comes. I would like at least 1/2 of the money refunded if not ALL of it. I know I will get nothing and do now wish I had involved the police.

Shipley (9/5): Convenient, met my needs and I'd stay there again - Most resort/hotel-like experience in the area and in a great location for access to the Nantahala Outdoor Center, Tsali mountbiking, Lake Fontana etc. Outstanding sunset views at top of hill. Seems like it would be an amazing wedding venue that one could book out for a big group with people staying in rooms, cabins, etc. Super convenient after hours checkin which worked fine for me. Coffee and bisquits were available in the lobby in the morning. I didn't see any staff while I was there but it was perfectly fine. Restaurant was closed "temporarily" while we were there which was surprising considering it was July 4 weekend. I wish I had had more time to enjoy the pool or visit the venue across the street which had great live music, but after a day of biking and swimming in the lake no energy. Normally I camp when I'm in the area but this is my occasional hotel go to. Lighting in room was quite dim. Need better light bulbs in general and a lamp in the middle of the two double beds would work wonders. Found a fine hair in shower but it looks hard to clean since a no hose shower. Floors seemed a bit gritty and I didn't want to walk on them barefooted. Ther was dust on top of the dresser where the TV is which made me think the cleaning person was shorter than the dresser.

BEDS WAS SO COMFY AND I WISH I COULD HAVE STAYED LONGER ... IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT ON MY VACATION , I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU STAY AT THAT ROOMs ABOVE THE RESTAURANT. I do not have knowledge of the other places on the property. I didn't have time to ride horses and we couldn't get in the game room to play pool. the cooks were gone so we had a limited menu, but the drinks were good and the fettuccini was good.

The only issues we had was that the water would come out of the faucet blue, but it’s because of the old copper pipes. After you ran the shower for a little while the water would be clear. The hotel had free sausage biscuits and coffee which was very good. Overall, we had a very nice stay and we would stay here again.

Verified traveler (10/5): Great Experience! - Traveling through North Carolina, we found this place by just looking around on Google Maps. I am so glad we did. After booking, they called to verify the arrival time because the check-in desk closes at 5. While I thought this might be an issue because we were not going to get there until after 7 pm, they assured me it would not be and that there would still be someone on-site in case there were any issues. We arrived a little after 4 pm and the check-in was a wonderful experience. I always have a ton of questions and they were super nice and extremely helpful. We stayed on a Wednesday night and their bar area doesn't open for the week until Thursday. No problem, there is a place literally across the street that has all kinds of beverages and bar food. We had several drinks and headed back across the street. They had a game room where I won my wife a prize on a claw machine. They have a few arcade games, pool tables, and ping pong. We hung out in one of their sitting areas that have amazing views. The bed was super comfortable and it had 5 or 6 pillows, so no need to bring ours in from the truck. Woke up to amazing views of the mountains, sat on rocking chairs on the porch, and ate fresh sausage and biscuits. The only thing that could have made the stay better is if the pool was open. Although we would have frozen! Just a little too early in the year for that. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in North Carolina!

They had several areas not open (pool, waterfall and lounge). 8. the front deck closes too early. 9. only one trash can in the bathroom no trash can at the coffee area. I would like to suggest to the owner or manager to spend one night in each unit over the next year and self-rate for total comfort. Ask the question is this what I want for my quest. It was very disappointing because the property is very beautiful.

Pamela (4/5): - 1st off…Nantahala Village was under renovation so should not have been listed as open on Expedia. Chose this resort due to the rustic nature of the buildings & beauty of rooms. Upgraded to king with jacuzzi tub. Told a couple days before trip not available so comp an upgrade to room with balcony & indoor/outdoor fireplace. Arrived for checkin at 5pm-doors closed & locked. Help arrived & lead us into an unlit lobby. Checked in & told to drive around side then take far left of 3 roads & we were in 17. No markings on numerous buildings. Rued out some as appeared new. Searched by building to match key with door. Removed shoes when entered to find wet carpet. Also construction boards on outdoor fireplace hearth. Asked fans to be delivered to dry carpet while at dinner. Turned on fireplace & heat with fan on high. 3 hrs later - no fans & carpet still wet. Used blow dryer to dry beside bed so could go to bathroom without needing shoes. Ended up placing runner from bed on carpet to have a dry path. This caused me to look deeper-no smoke or CO detectors on the ceiling or walls. Found smoke detector on the top shelf in closet, tested & it worked. Positive - the bed was heavenly & the room decor tasteful & reflected ambience of facility. Loved the outdoor layout & that there are horse stables for riding. After the renovation, may be a lovely place stay & would consider when more in season.

Brian (6/5): A lonely night on the mountain - Nice mountain location, checked in after 5 or 6 no one there, only restaurant for miles closed, door to pool room and games was locked able to access, remember no one on site? TV console did not fit TV so only the remote box inside and TV didn’t work until you opened the big doors. Water tasted like battery acid, should have left bottled water.
Mary (8/5): - The property was beautiful. We had issues with our toilet not working but the plumber came later that evening. I did not read anywhere that there is No elevator at this hotel and we are in our 70’s and it was difficult to carry our luggage to the second floor and no one to help. The staff was very nice.

David (8/5): - No elevator and the restaurant was impossible to work with as far as any type of service. Two bar tenders just about got in a fight. Went down the road to get dinner
Donald (8/5): - I have been here before, love the area. Only have dinner 5 days a week, but Food is very good. Cheap toilet paper. Still no elevator or bell hop. Tough on old people with bad knees.

Timothy (3/5): Poor - Cleanliness; staff No elevator; no ac in the hallway; minimal if any handicap facilities; breakfast late one day; non-existent the next. One facecloth for 2 people. The maid picked up the soap; shampoo and conditioner. She left none in return. I had to go to the maid's closet and get it. No ice machine. Ice in baggies, instead. You have to spend $ to make $. You don't do refunds do you? Absolutely a rip off for the price.

Douglas E (10/5): Beautiful Location and Staff was amazing - This was an amazing place to stay. I wish we had more time to explore more of the area. The front desk was very friendly, she even gave me directions to the most scenic ride to the resort by motorcyle. Unfortunately, the restaurant was understaffed but that is no fault of their own. They still allowed a limited menu for us and they didn't have to do that. Great place to stay!! Staff go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one.
