- Matthew (10/5): Awesome dessert hideaway - Everything. From the location to the cool mid century design to the room, pool and adjacent food and drink, loved this place and cannot wait to come back. Less of a not like than, a lazy morning request to consider easier access to self serve AM coffee station on site vs walking around to sister property. I know I could have ordered for delivery but when u (or maybe its just I) want am coffee I prefer it at arms length so to speak. Sorry, again just a lazy request/suggestion.

- vanessacG4990PZ (2/5): Super disappointing stay at the Del Marcos Hotel - TLDR: This hotel was a huge disappointment! The website oversells the property, which is architecturally interesting but needs a hospitality overhaul and a deep clean. We received a text from the hotel a day before our stay to confirm our arrival time, which we promptly did and never heard anything back. When we arrived at the hotel, the lobby was closed with a sign directing us to their next door property - not exactly a warm welcome. It seems they have their staff focus on the other property, as the lobby remained closed for the five days of our stay and we were redirected next door for everything we needed - not far, but not convenient. We booked a queen room and while the space itself was fine, there was no mention that this would be a motel room --- our door was easily accessible from the sidewalk (we even had some people walk up to take pictures in front of our window while we were in the room and walked out into a tour group). Needless to say this was not specified in the description of the room or we would not have booked it, it was not private at all. There wasn't even a sign to inform curious tourists that this was a private room - not a photo op. Late on the first night, I realized our shower didn't work properly and used the text number to inform the hotel, which they were prompt to let me know maintenance would come in the morning. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and our shower was still malfunctioning when we returned from our morning activities and then we had to wait while it was fixed - no hospitality included here, except from the maintenance man who may have been the most friendly and attentive staff member at the property. Unfortunately, this wasn't the end of the disappointment with the shower as we didn't have hot water for showers on two of the days of our stay. When I informed the hotel, they didn't do anything about this or offer to remedy the situation. The room itself was ok - not anything up to the way the photos looked - the furniture had seen better days, the bedside lamp was broken, and it could have used a much deeper clean. We randomly got towel service only one of the days - no idea where they were the rest of the time! When we went to the pool, there were no towels to be found there either. So, I don't know what the "Room and Poolside service" was supposed to be - as far as I can tell there is none. Robes, towels, and linens were decidedly standard - any plushness has long been washed out. The most disappointing aspect of all of this was the utter lack of hospitality from the staff - why have a text message system but not use it or respond regularly? When I relayed how disappointed I was in our experience on day two of our stay, no one bothered to check in. I am so bummed because we were so excited about our stay and this was an absolute stinker of a hotel experience. At least the weather was nice!

- Fpny (6/5): Great vibes but needs refurbishing - First, the positive: excellent 1950 vibes, great lay out, great location, great pool, nice staff : they do their best in an outdated place The down sides. Most of the time, no one is at the lobby; you could find a shorter way to communicate with the sister hotel, so we don’t have to walk in the street to join the restaurant for breakfast. I had the suite at the pool. Pictures look great, but the reality was far from the pictures. Room needs refreshment, the shower completely obstructed by hard water, one tv had no remote for the cable, and the other one no remote to turn it on. Kitchen stuff, super basic, no coffee machine as seen on the picture, but a kettle with a lousy coffee. The patio looked nice but the fire pit not working and the hand shower leaking, and it was very dirty, abandoned; This suite could be great with maintenance, refreshing, make it look like the picture on your website. I really hope the new manager will preserve the quality of this historic place because it is worth it Please fix it. I would like to come back.
- MiriamR331470 (4/5): Hotel needs updating - First the good points. The hotel is in a great location, a block from restaurants and shops. There is a terrace outside our second floor room with a nice view of the mountains and palms. But the room needs updating, especially the bathroom which bordered on unpleasant. The hotel was staffed by the next door La Serena Villas, a sister property. They were very friendly and helpful.
- mrldctguy (4/5): Not What I'd Hoped - I really wanted to love this hotel based on the great reviews and the iconic design of the building. Unfortunately, my experience was one issue after another. After a long day of travel delays, I arrived to be greeted by a piece of paper taped to the window informing me the lobby and front desk of the Del Marcos were closed and I would have to walk around the corner to another "sister" property to check in. No map provided so I had to figure out which direction to go and drag my bag there. When I expressed dismay at finding the del Marcos desk unstaffed, a manager emerged from a back office to say she had 3 employees out sick and they were doing the best they could. When I pointed out she could staff the del Marcos desk since a nice young man was staffing this one, she said she had "special projects to work on that prevented her from providing that service. I'm not sure what the projects were but they were obviously more important that making guests feel welcome. The lobby and desk at the del Marcos were never open or staffed during my stay. When I finally got to my room, I discovered the TV volume couldn't be changed with either of the remotes provided so with the HVAC running, I couldn't hear the TV at all. The next morning, I was unable to get hot water in the shower - barely luke warm. I reported the shower and TV issues later and the shower was fixed right away but the TV issue continued. When I finally mentioned it again on my last night, a different TV was provided. Returning to the hotel around 10 on my 3rd night, the digital key pad providing access to the hotel was malfunctioning and wouldn't accept the code so around the corner I go again to find someone to let me in. The bathroom in my room was small and the toilet was so close to the wall I could barely get on it and only with the door closed since the door swings right up to the toilet. The plants in the planters on the neat little patio were dying and very sad. To be fair, the hotel did waive the resort fees for my stay and offered complimentary appetizers in the bar at the sister resort and every staff member I interacted (except the manager) with was friendly, concerned and wanted to be helpful. The property is a beautiful mid-century modern design and the whole place has a fun, cool retro vibe that is perfect for a Palm Spring get away. But great design and groovy ambiance don't make up for access issues, luke warm showers, problem TVs and no front desk.

The room was in poor condition, the pictures and fantasy they are selling on the website are not accurate at all. The rooms are filthy and furnishings need to be completely restored or replaced. Paid for superior king rooms (pool front) months prior to our visit only to be told on arrival that there were no king rooms left at all. We were put into a small and very old room under a staircase with a very tiny and extremely outdated old bathroom. We were told by staff that they would waive our parking fee (which they did) and reimburse the difference between which room we had paid for and what we stayed in - this never happened despite also speaking with the sister hotel next door, numerous phone calls, emails and contact by our travel agent, all of which were ignored. Would not recommend this place to any future travelers.

- Amanda (10/5): Loved it! - The ambiance was perfect. The pool was perfect. Azúcar, a restaurant nearby, brought us food and drinks poolside. They were a little bit put off by our request for late check-out and all the guests seemed to be getting a bottle and glasses at check-in and we didn’t. I’m not sure why. We got great recommendations for food nearby. There is Village Fest every Thursday which is in walking distance. We were able to catch that and bought some cute things there. Overall, a perfect spot. Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere. Will be back for sure.

- Jennifer (6/5): Gone downhill - Just not the same as it used to be. Each time we go back it just seems more and more run down which is such a bummer because it’s in such a great location. Pool was very murky. Mentioned it to someone and then they said it should start clearing up because he just cleaned the filter. We have a pool and it doesn’t quite work that way. That pool needed to be shocked big time. Woke up and the pool was still disgusting but we were leaving so we stopped caring. One of our tv’s was stuck on a channel (I think we were missing a remote). I had to go over to the sister hotel because nobody ever answers the phone and tell them about the tv. The gentleman at the front desk said that maintenance was gone for the day and I should have said something sooner. Ok. So I said no biggie, and he said I’ll have someone come by first thing in the morning. Nobody ever came. Not that big of a deal but kind of annoying. There were two roaches when we woke up in the morning the first night so that was a treat. So yeah, we’ve been coming here for years. We’ve stayed at both the sister hotels and it’s safe to say that the Del Marcos and the three50 hotel are the forgotten children. They definitely care more about La Serena. No more loyalty discount, no more happy hour. Each time we go back thee is less and less presence of any staff which isn’t the worst but not always ideal.
- Jane (9/5): A boutique mid century wonder in the heart of Palm Springs - A fantastic mid century piece of Palm Springs hotel history that has been meticulously restored to honour its past and its designer. We loved our stay at Del Marcos - a cool, fun and friendly vibe in the heart of Palm Springs. Beautiful rooms, fun names (ours was Shag). Great coffee and tea and endless ice and air misters to keep us cool in the searing June sun. Beautiful food from the sister property next door too! We didn’t want to leave! Thank you for letting us stay on around the pool after our checkout.
- Simone (4/5): - Del Marcos Hotel definitely needs some TLC. The rooms are quite dated, and the furniture is extremely worn out. The bathroom was tiny and not very clean, which was a big letdown. We specifically booked a room with a patio because we enjoy sitting outside, but the patio was so dirty and uninviting that we didn’t use it at all. It’s a shame because the property has great potential, but unfortunately, it’s not being maintained to the standard it deserves.

- Alana (1/5): Bad - I booked this hotel in advance for myself and my little son. When making the reservation on Booking.com, I clearly indicated that I was traveling with a child. The booking was confirmed, and the payment was processed without any issues. We live in Los Angeles, and I planned a special trip to the springs with my son to relax and unwind. I drove through the night and arrived around 3:00 AM, only to be met with unexpected and upsetting news. Upon arrival, a staff member told me that children were not allowed at the property, apparently due to my having a stroller. I explained that I already had a confirmed reservation, and only then was I allowed inside — but I was told I would still need to find another place to stay because children are not permitted here. Shortly after, the hotel manager arrived and confirmed that we could not stay, despite the reservation including clear information about my child. He explained that it was Booking.com’s mistake for allowing the reservation to go through, even though it was against the hotel’s policy — a policy that was never mentioned or visible during the booking process. I was exhausted after the long drive, it was very hot outside, and I had carefully planned this trip. I had even booked one of the most expensive rooms. It was the middle of the week, and the hotel was nearly empty — I only saw one other guest. I felt absolutely heartbroken and overwhelmed. I cried and had no choice but to search for another place to stay with my son, which was incredibly stressful. The money was refunded the next day after I contacted Booking.com, but unfortunately, the experience completely ruined our trip.

- Shawn (10/5): Still a Great Place. - This was my fourth time staying at the Del Marcos Hotel. I love this place. The rooms are clean, bright, and nicely decorated. The hotel is well situated downtown just one block west of Palm Springs' main street. On this visit, my boyfriend and I took advantage of the hotel's free bicycles and went for a ride around town. My only minor complaint is that sometime between now and my last stay (in fall 2021) the hotel stopped using Lather bath products. The Lather soaps and shampoos were a real treat. The new stuff is pretty generic.

- Tally714 (8/5): Lovely, Low-Key Gem - I stayed at the Del Marcos one night with my seven year old son and it was a lovely stay. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and our room had nice furniture and a comfortable bed. Keep in mind that this a renovated 1940s motel, and it still has a “motel” feel to it, although much of it has been nicely renovated. They offer a complimentary breakfast in the lobby (coffee/tea, bagels, toast, store-bought muffins, whole fruit, granola, yogurt). The pool wasn’t heated, but they allowed us to use the heated pool and jacuzzi at their sister property across the street. The location is excellent - a 5 minute walk to Downtown Palm Springs shops & restaurants. I only gave it 4 stars because the rate we paid ($900/night) was more than double what it was worth, in my opinion. At $450/night (or less), I would have given it 5 stars. Granted, I booked the last room during one of Palm Springs’ busiest weekend (Coachella), so I can’t fault them for charging what they could. Thank you, Del Marcos, for a wonderful stay!

I can see the charm of maintaining a historical property but some updates were sorely needed. Certainly the 1947 aesthetic could have been kept while still maintaining appearances. The bathroom was tiny with old fixtures and poor workmanship. The walls were paper thin so it was hard to get sleep. I could hear conversations, music and footsteps from the room next door until after midnight. The location is great and walking distance to the main drag which was a plus. Few parking spots offered but also plenty of street parking. Pool area was dirty on the day of arrival, but was nice on the day we actually decided to enjoy it.

- 948lilyt (10/5): Super Chill Vibe in the Heart of Downtown - This is a really lovely hotel. I'd rate it more as an upscale motel in terms of vibes and amenities, but the decor and rooms are really cute, mid-century modern. Clean, spacious, comfortable. Beds are lovely The pool is wonderful, warm, relaxing, and it was very quiet the whole time we were there, which included a weekend. This is a perfect spot to just sit by the pool reading and catching some sun. The hotel is just a block off the main drag of downtown, which meant that all the shops and restaurants were easy walking distance. Even though the hotel is basically in the heart of downtown, it was mostly very quiet. The occasional car noise or rowdy carload of people having a good time, but this was the exception not the rule. The hotel does have thin walls and ceilings. We were in the Albert Frey room, which is under the stairs, and it sounded like elephants anytime folks were going up and down the stairs. But, this was a minor inconvenience. Our room also had a lot of room, a private patio, and a decent size kitchenette. The hotel is next door to the La Serena Villas (and seemed to share a check-in area) and the restaurant Azucar (very overpriced for what it is). We did have breakfast by the pool at La Serena Villas and accidentally lay out by that pool in their lounge chairs. We were told that Del Marcos guests were not actually allowed to do that (very graciously), and that was the only slightly sour note. It seems like the staff are shared between both, we had to check in at that lobby, we were welcome at the restaurant, etc. Letting guests use both pools just makes more sense and is more inclusive. La Serena Villas is more upscale and fancier than Del Marcos though. If you want a super chill vibe, great pool, and easy access to downtown, this is the place for you! We will definitely be back.

A lovely midcentury modern design. The warm swimming pool was a delight. Our room had a little kitchenette and back patio, which we enjoyed. The property is a little rundown with little things here and there that are broken or not quite right. The lobby is closed during the day so if you need anything you have to go next door to the sister hotel.

No ability to buy anything (drinks/snacks). Room is old. Bathroom has one dim bulb, a sink/faucet falling apart, a fan that sounds like a jet engine, no place to place toilet items or put on makeup, moldy spots. Room has a tiny TV with three coiling messy wires coming from it (not shown in any pictures). A confusing not-simple system of how to watch TV. A tea-like coffee system that creates thin coffee instead of an actual coffee maker (and there's no tea). The GOOD: Clean room. Good aircon mini-split system. Good location if you want to be close to down town.

- Quest37110637679 (10/5): Yes.... a 5 star review! - We had visited here a few years ago and had a good experience. After seeing some really negative recent reviews, we were concerned. I guess everybody has an opinion but...Our room was awesome and clean, the staff was friendly, the little breakfast items were fine, pool was warm and clean. Location is excellent. They were getting ready for Modernism week and had a really pretty light show on the building. We usually don't leave reviews but in our opinion this place is even better than before. Price is right on the money for condition and location. There are better places but you will pay more and/or sacrifice location. You also gotta love the historic Mid Century vibe!

Room lighting was insufficient in the evening for comfortable reading - the bathroom lighting could also be improved.

Our room was a little worn around the edges and had a dead plant on the patio. The bathroom was tiny. However, the front desk staff was very helpful and got us extra towels, which we exchanged for a couple of rags the cleaning crew had left. The front desk was not staffed while we were there; you had to go to the next-door property to check in and get help (as well as a welcome glass of bubbly).

- Shauna (4/5): Cute Retro Property but not worth the Price - The room was roomy and in a great corner location at the resort overlooking the mountains and salt water pool. Check-in was not available at the hotel at 4 pm. Had to go over to a sister property for check-in which took over 15 minutes with multiple people in line and 1 agent working (very nice guy). Parking was a little tricky and limited around the perimeters of the hotels. There is no bell service or room service. The room had a nice kitchen area stocked. Furniture was worn with scratches abound. The bathroom was very small compared to the room size. There was hair wrapped around the faucet, mold/mildew in the corner of the shower, dirty white towels, and bleached black face towels. The pool was not lit until later in the night after 9 pm). There was a nice continental plus breakfast in the unmanned check-in office in the morning. The computer was not processing payments at checkout, therefore they had to copy my credit card for future charging. Very disappointed, especially at the price point of $500 for a Saturday night.

The sister property next door La Serena Villas offers a great bar restaurant and it is where you check in and you get a welcome glass of bubbles . The lack of staff at this site to help you. Guests need to go next door to the sister property next door to check in and to get help on things like extra towels, a room issue etc. no front desk staff was present at this location while we were there but the staff next door at la Serena villas is fabulous. Understandable that a small hotel does not have funds to have full time staff but someone should be onsite in the lobby at check in and checkout times at the given property one stays at.
- brookesJ8317GT (10/5): Great service - We had a bad start to our trip at the Del Marcos hotel. When we got to our room we were welcomed by a fully unmade bed with the TV on. I closed the door as quickly as possible because I thought there might be someone in there. We went back to the lobby and Edwin at the front desk who was super helpful and sympathetic. He called his manager, Josef, and they upgraded up to a room at the La Serena Villas, gave us a complementary bottle of wine and treated us to breakfast at their incredible restaurant. They could not have done a better job making the situation right. We will definitely be returning to the La Serena Villas! Thank you Josef and Edwin!

Check in took around an hour at the property next door - the system was having an issue which I understand and we had time. But then we were given a room that didn’t have the balcony/mnt view that we booked. It didn’t have a plaque like the rest and actually the tv and bathroom fixture was broken… disappointing for sure. And no one to talk to about this when we left. Probably will book another hotel (not Kirkwood properties) when we visit again.

I didn’t have high expectations. Upon arrival it was easy to check in. Staff was friendly. The room was fine. There is no soap or shampoo in the bathroom so make sure to bring your own as it was weird using hand soap to shower.
