• John (9/5): Lovely stop post 3 days in the jungl - Lovely spot, right on the beach. Nice little pool area above the beach. Room was very comfortable and had everything you need. Quite a walk into town, but not too bad.

• Jeremy (9/5): Great secluded hotel with excellent staff and service - Really nice property and location overlooking Drake bay. The freshly prepared food was great and all the staff were helpful, friendly and professional. The kitchen graciously adapted our dinners to incorporate our food requests. We only stayed the weekend but enjoyed the amenities and walking down to the beach and river. You can observe quite a few animals while just lounging by the pool. We took a tour to Corcovado one day and the hotel manager walked us down to the beach where the boats picked up and ensured everyone got on the correct boat which was very helpful. The gravel road to Drakes bay is long and winds a fair amount so be aware of this if driving.

• Lily (7/5): Locatie top, de rest matig. - Prachtige locatie aan zee. Helaas wel wat verder uit het centrum, een flinke wandeling (zeker in het donker). De maaltijden waren behoorlijk prijzig vonden wij en je hebt geen keuze, het is 'eten wat de pot schaft'. Beter loop je richting dorp en kies je 1 van de restaurantjes waar je a la cart kan bestellen en minstens de helft betaald. ( lunch=20 dollar en diner 30 dollar). Ook de drankjes op het hotel zijn erg prijzig (de cocktails 15 dollar en een flesje lokaal bier 5 dollar). De kamer is eenvoudig, gedateerd en wat muffig, de bedden prima maar klein. Wij hadden een nieuwe airco, superstil!

Mit herzlichem Service - Traumhafte Auszeit inmitten der Natur Das Hotel Pirate Cove ist ein wahres Paradies für Naturliebhaber, umgeben vom üppigen Dschungel & direkt am Meer gelegen, erlebt man hier pure Entschleunigung. 🌴🌊 Besonders begeistert hat uns das liebevoll zubereitete Essen mit frischen, lokalen Zutaten. Einfach köstlich & authentisch. Jeder Bissen spiegelt die Hingabe der Küche wider. 👩‍🍳💚 Ausflüge lassen sich unkompliziert & schnell über das Hotel organisiert. Sei es zum Schnorcheln, Whale Watching oder in den Corcovado-Nationalpark – alles reibungslos und persönlich abgestimmt. 🐋🌿 Das Personal ist in allen Belangen unglaublich freundlich, herzlich & hilfsbereit. Wir fühlten uns rundum willkommen & bestens betreut. Ein Ort, an dem man die Seele baumeln lassen kann. Sehr zu empfehlen!

• Ashley (6/5): - Overall nice property and staff with a very convenient location. I felt like it was priced very high for conditions and that’s the only reason I dropped stars. I would have moved hotels but was too tired to deal with checking out and moving properties but was really disappointed that the extra night was the same rate I had paid on Expedia . Only other complaint is this was the only hotel on our whole trip that somehow didn’t charge me directly through Expedia and took my credit card info again at the front desk which made me feel uneasy. Nothing bad has happened with my cc info though, but I’m not accustomed to this practice and it made me uneasy.
• Rachel (10/5): Perfect spot to relax and see wildlife from the pool/your room. - Amazing location with beautiful views. Comfortable cabinas which are spotlessly clean. The staff are so friendly and Accommodating. A very laid back, comfortable vibe. Definitely highly recommend a stay at pirate cove. Nothing- we loved it!

• Richard (10/5): The perfect stay - We received a lovely welcome when we arrived. Our room was beautiful and had a fabulous view. Everything was immaculately clean and tidy. The location was perfect for us. As it is a little bit out from the town we had our dinners here. The food was lovely and great value. We also found that having a set menu worked really well for us and the staff were more than happy to cater for special dietary needs. All in all a perfect stay! Highly recommended! Everything was perfect for us. Nothing to dislike.
• Kylie (10/5): - My sister and I loved our stay at this hotel! It’s just outside of town, has a pool overlooking the ocean, and AC in the rooms. The staff is amazing and very attentive! The bartender, Francisco, always made sure we had everything we needed and constantly tidied up around the pool. You have the option to pay additional to eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. We chose to walk into town. They can also help you to call a taxi, but sometimes they aren’t available. We did a scuba diving tour through the hotel and it was very easy to walk down to the beach to get on the boat. This was the best diving I’ve ever done - seeing turtles, reef sharks, stingrays and beautiful fish! We also saw lots of wildlife right from our balcony.

• Roger (10/5): - Great Hotel 5 min by car or 10 min walking outside of Drake bay. Excellent staff. We had a great experience, highly recommend their snorkelling your. They leave before everyone else so you are first to the hotspots before all the big guiding boats come. I would also suggest calling the hotel and having them set up your transport and all the activities you would like to do as it doesn't cost more and they know all the insured and well run operations in town. If we had done that it would have made things much easier for us. They also have full board or pay as you go for lunch and dinner. Meals were very good.

• Susannah (10/5): Beautiful, relaxing location to call home while enjoy the activities of the area. - It was clean, the staff was friendly, the room was private, and the hammocks on our private porch were so relaxing. Happy hour at the pool was a great way to finish a busy day of hiking. The pool was always fairly quiet because there are not a ton of rooms at the location. There was no hot water in the shower. It was a hike to get into the village area of Drake Bay.

• Joey (8/5): Very good - The view from the balcony is very nice and the hammock is a nice addition. Many birds like scarlet macaws were flying by. The location is quiet just down the road from the main town. There is a public path on the beach which is nice to walk through the jungle. The road to get to Drake's Bay is very rough as in the description to the hotel you need a 4x4 car to make that journey. And make sure to have enough gas as we didn't see any stations. We understand it is a remote location so prices will be higher but we found it a bit high for what you get.

• Christine (10/5): Exceptional - We received a welcome drink right after we arrived. There was a station of drinks, coffee, tea and nibbles in the main area all day. The room was spacious and comfortable. From the restaurant one had a beautiful view of the ocean.

• April (10/5): We will definitely be back ❤️ - I stayed here for 4 nights with my husband and 9 year old son. The front desk arranged a pick up by boat for our Corcovado park jungle tour on the beach right in front of 🏴‍☠️’s Cove. The staff was excellent from the beginning to the end of our stay. My son is still talking about how much he misses Pirate’s Cove and especially Francisco one of the very special employees that made us feel like family. During our stay we met a few other wonderful families and became fast friends! The dive/snorkel team are excellent I highly recommend booking a tour with them. Our snorkel adventure began and ended with heavy rain but we had an incredible time nonetheless, we saw humpback whales, mother and baby, white tip reef sharks, turtles, sting rays and many fish. This area of Costa Rica is incredibly beautiful including our plane ride in which was an adventure in itself. Even the taxi ride to and from the airport was a wonderful adventure from having to change vehicles and walk across a bridge that was under repair to driving across a river in a Land Cruiser. We enjoyed our relaxing time at the pool everyday while iguanas 🦎chilled in the tree above and macaws flew overhead 🦜. We pretty much had our own beach to explore and swim. Our cabin was #7, it had beautiful deck with 2 hammocks to relax and take in the beautiful river/ ocean view. From the dive team and the wonderful crew that work hard to make the delicious meals (they even catered to my picky son), to the reception staff and of course Francisco, we say a huge thank you for making the beginning of our Costa Rica adventure so incredible! We will be back here for sure hopefully in the near future! Pura Vida 🤙❤️ 🇨🇷 Absolutely nothing to dislike!

Property is well kept with beautiful landscape and steps to the beach. A mile w allow into town took 30minutes or front desk can call a local taxi for $10. You can also rent a ATV. Staff was all very friendly and made sure we were prepared for our tours. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again if in the area.

• Ethan (10/5): Amazing gateway resort! - My wife and I had an excellent stay. The staff was really remarkable and provided great service. The owner is friendly and accommodating . The facilities are quaint and well maintained. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Right on the beach amidst a lush tropical setting. Loved it!

• Ronja (7/5): Nice place but doesn't quite meet the standards for the price. - Breakfast was simple but nice. Coffee and tea was available all day long which was nice. Nelson at the reception was awesome with friendliness and customer care. Though the place is nice, I did find the price clearly too expensive (with tax&service fee 135$). Lunch and dinner is available only by pre-order and on a certain hour, for an extra cost. We had informed food diat in advance and though it was discussed in the morning, the dinner still had the vegetables that we couldn't eat. Portions were small, cost 20$ per person. There was a lot of hassle with food plates in several tables and the kitchen staff mainly did not speak or understand English. The location is beautiful but restaurants are either 30mins walk or a 10$ taxi ride away.

There was no food or drinks on the property so we had to go out for dinner, but we found a very nice place just down the road. The drive in from San Jose was all they said it would be and more! What an adventure. I would recommend staying here as it was very convenient for the diving with Canos Divers.

• farhad (8/5): Beautiful hotel - The hotel is beautiful with a nice pool, located about 20min walking from the boat port in a secluded area. People are helpful and nice. One thing I should mention is that in Hotels.com it is mention that rooms has an AC where in fact it only had ceiling fan.

Beautiful spot near the National Park and Cano Island with two long beaches to explore and lots of diving/snorkeling and swimming. Staff were fantastic - very friendly, and service was great from the chefs to the management. Would definitely recommend this resort.
• M. Suzy (10/5): Great view! - Everyone at Pirate Cove works extremely hard to make your stay the best it can be. If you survive the river crossing (or are smart and use a shuttle service), you find yourself in a beautiful cove, with Macaws overhead and lizards all around. They have free use of some brand new kayaks which is a really nice bonus. The snorkel tour is great, too!

The rooms were very clean and comfortable and charming. We loved the meals, fresh and deliciously prepared!! Everything was great and we miss it already!

All the activities are organized by the hotel, and there is a lot to do. We chose snorkeling, a day tour in the park and a night tour. We saw dolphins and a sea snake from the boat. Snorkeling was great, we saw a lot of fish, and relaxed on the beach. Day tour was awesome too. We saw a lot of animals, and the second short walk to the waterfall after lunch on the beach was well worth it. Gabriel, our guide for both tours, was very nice. The night tour is something to do once in your life, it is an experience to remember, but very spooky with all these spiders and some snakes... The hotel organizes your transportation, boat or to the plane. Keep in mind it is a wet landing, so you have to walk in the water to get out of the boat, which gives you the "Pura Vida" feeling as soon as you arrive. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
