- Xavier (9/5): - sehr netter Ort, bietet Entspannung.

- Hannah (9/5): - - The castle and hotel are amazing! You can look around and explore by yourself or relax at the pool area. They have their own wines and a very old wine cellar. The wines are exceptional, would recommend to try out their winetasting. We even got vouchers for it. The area is also great and the castle serves as the perfect base to explore all the cool things in the area. The food. I say this with respect - you can’t serve peasoup which tastes like it is instant soup (supermarket bought) and cold pancakes (Palatschinken). You have a Head of kitchen, one chef and a couple of sou-chefs, and when I see this in the marketing materials, I kinda expect amazing food. I can’t say the food is bad, but it wasn’t great either. You have the most breathtaking restaurant space, amazing staff, mindblowing wine and then the food is just ‘meh’. What went wrong in the process?
- BrookeMorales (8/5): Beautiful Schloss - Beautiful Schloss in well kept grounds. Seminar rooms, guest accommodation, restaurant, cafe, wine celler with tastings and wine bar. You can enjoy a variety of activities here. Beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
Very close to the market town of Leibnitz.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bohdan (8/5): Very good - Historical location No air conditioner in the room
- chrismD2896YF (10/5): Hidden treasure in South Styria - We stayed only one night in the castle on our way to our summer vacation in Croatia. So it was a coincidence since we looked for a place for the night. I knew this is going to be great the moment I talked to Reservations via phone (Frau Tschnernegg), who made sure we got a nice family room on short notice.
The Hotel is a real island of tranquility. The center area is a large terrace outside overlooking a big meadow (with a beautiful pool) and a historic wine cellar. Wonderful space and they also serve some great food there (e.g. awesome Risotto) and fantastic ice cream (self made?) . By the way, the breakfast was also great (different area though) - big variety, healthy, from the area and perfect fried eggs.
Our room was in the new building, so nothing to complain about. AC was helpful since it was a warm day. Had everything that was needed.
In the evening we made a nice stroll around the castle - they also do guided tours.
We left after only 16 hours - but it was the perfect start to our vacation. We also bought a couple of bottles of wine from the place.
To work on: No gym (I did not see one anyway)
- Juan (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): - Nice Hotel
I want to rate the hotel 5 stars because it achieves what it is trying to. The staff was great. Food at dinner was great and people are very kind. Breakfast was great too.
But I feel they missed on what the place could be. It is a mix of historic and modern industrial. The rooms are nice but generic with higher quality Ikea type furniture. I don't feel any connection to on to the past. But like I said if you want a nice hotel then you'll be happy here.
- Franja (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (10/5): Stunning location, beautiful castle and so much to see. - Absolutely brilliant hotel. Gorgeous building, stunning location and the staff always went above and beyond. Cannot recommend this place enough. Wonderful weekend and can’t wait to stay again. Nothing to improve.
- Catalin (9/5): Superb - Room was clean and quiet Staff was friendly and helpful. Good varied breakfast. Good WiFi. Location is very nice. You can also visit the castle and the wine cellar.
- Andreas (9/5): Superb -
- Anton (10/5): Home, away from home! - The location was outstanding, very peaceful and beautiful. The staff was absolutely friendly, making sure that we feel like home. Everything was perfect.
- _suncica_rosicsunce (10/5): A Styrian Fairytale - It was unforgettable and fulfilling to spend two weeks at Hotel Schloss Seggau. The hotel lies in the beautiful green space, surrounded by hills and breathtaking landscapes. Its swimming pool is the most authentic one I've seen, as one can swim and sunbath while enjoying the unique natural surrounding. The castle is a precious hotel complex that has all the facilities to make a holiday comfortable, yet respects and preserves rich nature and history. I warmly recommend a guided walk through the castle's centuries long history, as well as wine tasting. Perfect for conferences, as well as for private arrangements. The only downside are insects during the night, as windows have no mosquito net, so I warmly recommend bringing a mosquito spray (it's not dangerous though).
- Pavlina (10/5): - Toll und sehr nettes Personal
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Pavla (10/5): Amazing place with a spirit and excellent quality. -
- Adriana (9/5): A relaxing, comfortable and delightful stay - It is a beautiful property with modern and historic aspects. The rooms were modern and comfortable. The views were breathtaking and the breakfast was enjoyable with beautiful scenery and comfort and clean facilities. I wish I would of known earlier about the tours. I would of booked one before my departure.
- charles (10/5): - Belle endroit bien entretenu
- C (10/5): Very comfortable, great breakfast and friendly staff -
- Giovanni (9/5): Superb - room design, staff, breakfast common areas
- Markus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Florian (8/5): Very good - Beautiful castle on top of the mountain. Vast property with lots of open spaces, very quiet and definitely a great place to relax and forget all about day to day life. Rooms were smaller than I hoped and views were not great. One of our rooms was facing a construction site and the trees blocked any kind of view despite the castle being on top of the hill.
- Beyza (9/5): Superb -
- londonlifelover (4/5): Slightly disappointed - I have just returned from a weekend of celebrating my best friends wedding. We stayed at this hotel. Couple of hiccups which at the rate of the rooms I wouldn’t expect. Firstly, some guests could check in at 1pm but our check in was at 3pm which I think is ridiculously late. I asked if I could have a different room a bit earlier as I was there for a wedding and had to get ready. The answer was ‘no’. I then asked if any of my friends had checked in - again the answer was ‘no’. I then went to the restaurant and saw all of my friends say there who had already been given their rooms. Our friends also told us that they had been given the option to pay 30EUR and get the room earlier. We were given no such option. Not that we would have paid even more money but again - completely inconsistent messaging!
Once we sat down for lunch, we had to wait for ages until we could order, then ages again until we got our food. We also asked the waiter to remove the plates at the other table as they had been sat there for a long time. Waiter responded he hasn’t had a chance to remove those yet because he was on his cigarette break. I would not expect this kind of service at a hotel where the room rate is over 100EUR a night. The hotel is very spacious and has a cute little pool but the service was disappointing.
- jutta (8/5): schöner Pool, freundliches Service - schöner Pool, freundliches Service (v.a. auf der Terrasse);
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sehr nett, herrliche Umgebung, sehr nettes Personal.
- 6485himanshu (10/5): This is one of the most beautiful places that i have ever stayed at. - Its located at a beautiful location, you can see a beautiful lake from there. This is a quiet and calm place and will soothe your mind and soul. Wine wasn't the best over here but the Coffee and the Chocolate cakes are amazing. Just half a mile is the beautiful Leibnitz market where you can have coffee, food and buy souvenirs.
- Primoz_Trucl (10/5): Lovely place for leisure, fun & contemplation - The place is an old castle completely renovated and refurnished. The guests get and feel great comfort behind the old thick castle walls. The service is perfect and the personnel is very kind. The swiming pool in the darden is suitable for normal swiming!
- Piotr (10/5): - Castle, wine cave, outdoor pool, museum all in one in the serene country side. As they put this in hotel marketing, this is a retreat for body, mind and spirit. This is a remarkable hotel...one must stay longer than a night to truly enjoy the experience.
- Irina94 (10/5): Great start of our vacation - We have just finished another bottle of their excellent Messwein 2016 brought from the hotel among others, and realized that we did not review this wonderful hotel yet. Sorry.
It was pretty random choice of ours to stay at Seggau, as we did not find any appealing hotel in nearby Maribor to start our Slovenian adventure. What a great find!
From a moment you leave highway and approach the hill, which Schloss Seggau located on, you start feeling tranquillity of the area.
Schloss itself has commanding position with almost unrestricted view around.
Main hotel wing is modern but fits other historic buildings quite well ( you can see it from restaurant's terrace and pool area only).
Our room 3110 was very spacious, more then enough for three of us. The only drawback here was a sofa - uneven, short and narrow (unfoldable armchair originally, I guess), our teenage daughter had been suffering on. It could probably be good for a kid of age below 7 or 8 years. So, consider booking another room if you are more than a couple.
Room was perfectly clean and nicely equipped for a comfortable stay.
We dined at the terrace and liked food, wine and service very much.
Breakfast was excellent too, with plenty of everything and very good unlimited coffee.
If you think of yourself as wine lover, take time to try their product (we travelled by car and took a few bottles with us also). Gelber Muscateller and Zweigelt (red) were our favourites. Very good and surprisingly affordable!
Big thank you to every staff member.
We will start planning our next stay there soon.
- ron (10/5): European Vacation - Overall the hotel was good. But no wash clothes in the bathroom, very hot with no way to turn down the heat, and overhead light would not go off if you just wanted to use the reading bed lamps. But the hotel staff and view plus the wines and food overcame the room defects. Mixed review on room but the out of room experience was outstanding.
- NLcycle (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful hotel, located in the old bishop's palace on top of a hill with a beautiful view. For people interested in archaeology: the walls of the palace contain a large number of Roman sculptures.
The hotel itself is a very modern building, with perfect facilities. A very nice restaurant where we enjoyed a nice lunch and dinner. Outside seating, a swimming pool. Really recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect - Nice location, nice hotel, wonderful staff.
Perfect
- Norbert (10/5): Relaxing Experience - Beautiful old castle with modern renovated accent. Very nice staff, and good food :-). Beautiful views down to the valley. It's a private and calm place, no shopping or any other houses close by, but wonderful to relax.
- fivesheds (10/5): Enjoyed the stay here ! - Positives:
- location - views are superb
- the character and history of the hotel's buildings - a must to take a walk around the hotel
- helpful staff
- excellent room size
- very clean
- food quality & restaurant service
Negatives:
- none
- Stewart (8/5): First Austrian Stay - This was my first trip to Austria and when I booked this hotel I did not pay too much attention to it as I just needed a hotel in town. I was delighted when I was told by a colleague that this hotel was by far the best in the area and we were both amazed at how good value it was.
The quality of the fittings, the food, the staff were all excellent and I hope to be able to stay here again.
.... Frühstück leider Massenabfertigung, weil viele SeminarteilnehmerInnen, keine frischen Eierspeisen, kein Bauernbrot..... schade
- Fitzsy (8/5): Amazing place and views - This venue gets 5/5 for the views and architecture. Brilliant for a business meeting, meeting rooms good, bedrooms fantastic. My wife was happy enough there for 2 days, but a longer stay would push someone not happy walking/painting/reading.
- swimmingp00l (10/5): Extraordonary Accommodation - This is a very special and nice hotel. It combines modern design and comfort with the medieval flair of a monastery. The staff is very friendly and competent. The view from the room over the landscape was great. The restaurant has very nice offerings.
- CG2015new (2/5): Bed bugs - Extremely astonished to end up with bed bugs from one night stay in this place. We arrived late in the evening and we were overcharged with 160 euro for a double room . Then next day we realised we have bed bugs Room 311 in main building More upsetting as we have a 6 months old who bed shares
- BSchoettle (8/5): Great location, very relaxing - The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location in the hills above Leibnitz was peaceful and relaxing. Very close to lots of local points of interest, especially local Buschenschank (wine tavern). Wonderful historic castle with great photo opportunities. Very modern hotel rooms and facilities.
- Danuta2812 (10/5): Mesmerizing Place - I visited Schloss Seggau for my Austrian friend's wedding and it was incredible. This place has so much to offer. The castle itself is an old historical building that dates back to the 13th century. There is a vineyard on the grounds and guests have great opportunities to taste local wine. The food in the restaurant as well as the breakfast buffet of the castle was fresh and delicious. The castle offers breathtaking views as it is situated on a small mountain overlooking the valley. The hotel room that I stayed in for two days was very neat and cozy, the bed was very comfortable. The staff at the castle were extremely friendly and spoke great English. The wedding which was for the most part organized by the lovely staff of the castle was incredible, beautiful and romantic. It is a great place to visit to feel reunited with nature and history and to see some breathtaking views of the beautiful Austrian countryside and to try some local wine.
- gregrrr (8/5): Excellent week of conferences - Beautifully located and tucked away between the hilly area within Styria - the castle is scenically complemented by the ample vineyards that are within a stones throw from the castle itself. I spent 4 days here as part of a conference and lived in one of the apartment units in the secondary building.
It was clean, the service was friendly and the food was fantastic.
On the downside, the rooms didn't have wifi - so we would always have to come up to the cafe or restaurant to use our laptops.
- londonberlin (8/5): Website undersells this excellent historic property - A former bishop's castle, Schloss Seggau sits on a hill above the (slightly dull) town of Leibniz. Take the tour into the bishop's rooms and you'll see an amazing baroque chapel and portraits of the bishops dating back to the 1400s. Book a 'superior' room and you'll be in the modern addition to the Schloss, finished to a very high standard and designed for the conference business. An excellent breakfast is included in the rate. Notably the website fails to highlight they have a great outdoor pool (with separate pool for toddlers).
It's not a "family hotel" in the normal sense, but it absolutely fitted the bill for us
- Peter (10/5): Fascinating castle hotel still owned by the Church - This hilltop castle is fascinating. Most of it has been restored or remodeled. Mostly it is used as a conference center, but it's also a hotel.
It takes a bit to find it, as it's out of town on a hilltop. A few signs point the way if you watch carefully. Reception is correct, rooms are simple in furnishing but absolutely spotless and functional.
The restaurant (dinner was included in the overnight price) was a vaulted room with massive oak tables, simple furnishings, simple but tasty food. And the hotel has its own vineyard, also (wine available by glass, carafe, or bottle).
Breakfast was elsewhere in an institutional-type room that would be great in a business conference. The breakfast was a generous buffet with plenty of choices.
Free parking was outside the main castle gate, but guests are permitted to drive right up to the door near the elevators.
- LNvoyageuse (8/5): Great Conference Setting - I have spent two weeks in the castle which is actually a very nice milieu for conferences and meetings. I saw people organized weddings and other events as well. Indeed, the structure has been recently restored and it combines classic elements of medieval architecture with modern, classy ones. They have a restauant, food is eccellent, and a cafeteria, a little expensive but nice. The pool is small but enjoyable. What is very interesting is the "taverne": they produce their own very fine wine. Definitely worth trying and going for a short holiday. Close to Graz but not served by public transportation directly. A ride to the Leibnitz train station costs 10 euros.
