Major glimmers of 19th century charm away from the bustle of Lucerne, yet very close via the funicular (or mini tram), which is charming and free for guests. A great place for gentle hikes and walking in the woods. Lucern has a clear culture of kindness. Be sure to fit in with the flow and be a gracious traveler!

- Jennifer (6/5): - The Château itself is very beautiful, as was our room and the views, however, the hotel had an event we were not aware of that had very loud music with a DJ, from around 3 PM till 10 PM right outside our balcony. It was not a relaxing stay due to this. Also, the lounge area, garden area, and some other areas were closed off to the guest of the hotel due to this event. Had we known this, we would not have booked this place as we wanted a relaxing evening. We had dinner in one of the restaurants and were very displeased with the waiter and service, he just brushed us off many times. Also, the menu is very limited and overpriced for what was received. For the price we paid with the inconvenience, I cannot give it a five star review.

The duplex room was more than sufficient for our needs. It had great views, comfy beds and a nice size bathroom area. The staff were super helpful at every step! Whenever we needed them or asked for something they were there! The funicular worked every day that we were there as well. We walked to the chapel bridge area and train station everyday. Its an easy and safe 25ish minute walk which we enjoyed. We also enjoyed the easy trails located behind the hotel. We used them one rainy afternoon. Overall its a super lovely and beautiful hotel and we enjoy spending our trip here!
- David (10/5): - This is a really superb hotel. The room was extremely comfortable and the views of Lucerne (including from the little balcony of our room) were incredible. Everything about our stay was great, including the friendly and helpful staff (who were very welcoming of our cockapoo dog who travelled with us). Being up on the hill (with easy access via a funicular lift) also makes the hotel feel very safe and private. While it's obviously not the cheapest hotel around, we thought it was very good value for money. Highly recommended.

Can’t do that in a warm humid hotel room. Very disappointing. There suits are air conditioned only.

The lift to go down to the main town was right next to the hotel and it was easy to get to the city from there. Our room was clean, large and spacious. There was a great restaurant in the hotel and the staff was warm, courteous and extremely helpful. There was parking at the hotel as well. Would highly recommend staying here.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Historic beauty, but no AC in summer - The hotel is beautiful and has lovely views. Staff are kind and attentive. Unfortunately, since it is a historic building, it lacks some modern conveniences like air conditioning, coffee makers/water kettles in all rooms. As well, screens are not on windows or doors, so it’s best to leave the lights off to reduce number of insects in room, if opening windows or balcony doors at night to allow a bit of a breeze to combat the heat. Rooms are small but quaint. Beds comfortable and ample hot water. The funicular was broken the entirety of our stay, which made the hotel feel more remote and not convenient. Complimentary shuttle was available to pick up and drop off at the bottom of the funicular, but since the last car needed to be back at the hotel by 8pm, it was also limited. Overall, do not feel the cost and value were on par. Would recommend staying at a hotel with AC in Luzern proper, and go to the hotel for a cocktail around sunset to see and appreciate the spectacular views which are its best asset.

The hotel is as expected old so the rooms are converted to modern standards. The bathroom is quite tiny with exhaust non-existent. We visited when Lucern was going through a hot spell. The air conditioner was too small for the size of the room which was split into two levels. Very good restaurant and bar on site with lots of functions going on. A great hotel to stay atleast once.

And best of all, the views of Lucerne from our terrace were breathtaking. Amazing stay!

Our only complaint was the temperature of the room as the hotel has no air conditioning and it was about 80 degrees in the room. Fortunately, they provided us with an extra fan and we slept with the doors open to help cool us down. Would definitely stay again.

- James (8/5): - Overall, the experience of staying at Chateau Guetsch was amazing. You can't beat the view on the lower patio for breakfast in the morning, overlooking the city as the sun rises above the swiss alps. It's truly an incredible start to the day. Then, at night, you close out your day with a drink at the bar sitting on the upper patio as the city lights turn on during sunset. The history, unique feel, and modern updates make it a really special place. With that in mind, a few things that I wish we were made aware of prior to our stay... 1) The hotel doesn't do a great job of informing guests how to get there on arrival, it would be great if there was a step-by-step guide with pictures to help you out - whether you are coming from the train station, car, bus etc. We found it day 1, but it was pretty inconvenient. With two large bags, we fortunately were able to carry those in the places where there is no elevator or escalator. 2) Lucerne feels incredible safe, it's an amazing city and must see place if you are traveling to Switzerland for the first time. The only dodgy area we experienced unfortunately was right by the hotel, where you have to jump on a funicular/tram to get up to the hotel. We actually changed our walking direction the second night because we felt unsafe a few blocks from the hotel. If you go to Lucerne, you must do the Mt. Pilatus adventure, and do the round trip. i.e. Gondola, Cableway, Cogwheel, and Boat. Unreal experience, truly amazing.

It is probably one of the most unique hotel stays I have experienced: It sits atop one of the highest hills in the area and there is even a little train car that can take you up to the property. Staying here feels like you're actually staying at someone's residence - it feels like a luxurious home vs. an impersonal hotel. The place is a balanced mix of old and new, the staff are absolutely wonderful and the breakfast is fantastic! It is also situated perfectly - just take the train car down to the street level and you will be within walking distance of Old Town. The cherry on top of the cake? The phenomenal view from the hotel! Unbeatable.
