Guest Reviews
- Brian (7/5): - Outlook beautiful. Bed comfy. Room was a good size and comfortable. Breakfast offered is freshly made to order and decent quality. We stayed in Bear Island. Bathroom was tired. New bathroom door/toilet seat required. Outside space is lovely but needed a good clean. It wouldn't take much to improve. Continental breakfast was of good quality but needs staff to replenish the basics without being asked by guests e.g. milk, juice, decaff coffee sachets. We would happily return if the above suggestions were acted on.
- John (9/5): Quality on the cheap - Friendly staff and excellent value for money. Nothing
- peter (9/5): -
- Guido (8/5): - bij ons bezoek was er live optreden wat wel wat "lawaai" meebracht. vermits het "oude" bebouwen zijn, heb je wel wat gekraak op de vloer van de boven buren. je vraagt dus best een kamer boven.
- Christopher (7/5): - The staff, the food and the drinks The room was a little tired and cleaning could have been better
- Bill (8/5): -
- PAUL (8/5): - Location.
Good size rooms .
Didnt mind the noisy floorboards ! Room overlooked road which was noisy and outside window was boiler flue extract so not easy to sleep!
- Nomad 399 (8/5): Good value hotel in a pretty village. - Comfortable room, nice bar and reasonable breakfast. No issues

- Diane (9/5): Very comfortable - Lovely room in building across car park, so away from noise of the pub. Room looked newly decorated, very clean, good lighting and an exceptionally comfy bed. Fabulous breakfast and evening meal. Staff all lovely. Very quiet, looks a bit underused, which is a shame, but looks as though the whole place is undergoing a refurbishment. Good luck to them, this place is lovely with great staff and deserves to be supported. Tap on bathroom sink very wobbly and door handle falling off. Room had a balcony which overlooked a lovely green area with a stream - would be lovely if a bit of attention given to outside sitting area - it was a bit rickety and chairs were quite dirty.
Having said that, it looks as though there is a programme of works being undertaken - workmen were working on rooms below, so it may just be a case of it all coming together in time. If so, rooms will be fabulous.

- Neil (10/5): - All food great and staff amaxing Too short a stay
- LondonLockwood (10/5): Superb value .. - Had just a one night stay here and its refreshing to see that there is still value to be had . The rooms were clean..sleep quality good and a rain shower in the bath worked fine. The breakfast was 12.50 and offered fine continental choice with a good hot selection to boot. The downstairs bar was terrific offering happy hour which i took advantage of..5 pounds for a pint was a bargain coming from London which just went through a tenner in certain pubs.
All in all ..a great stay and would return if in the area. Comes highly recommended.
- cleeterc (10/5): Friendly staff ,great food - Very friendly and helpful staff , I had their Sunday roast which was exceptional .I would certainly recommend the Bear Hotel

- Caroline (9/5): Lovely stay, good food, decent room - Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice, n location brilliant Everyrhing was fine
- Carlo (9/5): Attentive staff - They could store our bikes ok. Very courteous staff Nothing
- paul (8/5): Lovely, would not hesitate to stay again. - Very quirky. Old building with lots of beams and uneven floors. Added to the charm. Lovely warm welcome on arrival.
Nice clean bedroom, although tea tray a little basic.
Excellent evening meal, steak cooked to perfection. Very good breakfast.
Car parking an added bonus. Noticed that bin in main toilet was full on first evening and still not emptied on leaving the property, although I had been in at the same time as the cleaner on one occasion. However, apart from that small issue, very clean throughout.
- Jameus (4/5): A éviter - L'emplacement
Le restaurant Insonorisation catastrophique
WC défectueux
Écoulement du bain défectueux
Prise electrique défectueuse
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Lisa (7/5): Friendly staff clean rooms a bit more attention to detail - Friendly staff on reception always tries to get us into our room as early as possible The communication between the booking and the bar as we were booked in on dinner bed and breakfast but when I got the bill for the food I was asked to pay for the food. I queried the bill and was told that reception didn’t tell the bar they said we had chosen off the wrong menu. How were we supposed to know??? It was resolved in the end but as we didn’t have a starter that was included thought they may not have charged for the sauce for the steak.next time we will have a starter even if we don’t eat it
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Good friendly personel Catch on window broken
- Gail (7/5): Good value in a great location with lovely staff - Everything was great - the beds were exceptionally comfortable and the staff couldn’t do enough! A few of the areas could do with a deeper clean
- Meena (9/5): Lovely staff and amazing breakfast - Breakfast was amazing. Can order hot food and also continental breakfast was available too. Loved the pancakes and fruits. Dinner was great too. Staff were very friendly, very accommodating. Lovely room with balcony. Shower pressure was great. Location amazing. Beautiful stream and ducks around the back and, picnic benches. Evening dining, took a while for the food to arrive, it appeared many were in the samesituation. We didn't complain, we understand these things happen sometimes, could be staff sickness. Veey hot water in bathroom basin, there is signage around, so just be careful. Taps in need of maintenance in room 39. It was very warm at night but the heating was off, we had the window open. Having said all that, I do recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
- Lionel (8/5): Very good value for one night. - Room facilities were clean and comfortable, apart from the lack of a safety mat for the shower, which we had to ask for.
I believe this is as important for the elderly as a hair drier. I have said this before. The Greene King printed breakfast menu is virtually unreadable, with the most important facts being printed in back ink on a black background. Who okayed this?
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Jack (8/5): very good value for money. - good evening meal. good breakfast, nice room bathroom floor needed a clean cobwebs up on some beams
- Suzanne (8/5): Good will stay again but will request main building - The bed was amazing so comfortable and the 2 meals we bought (1x evening, 1x lunch )was great The back yard was untidy, bins rubbish broken chair scooters football at bottom of stairs laundry cages with rubbish in the garden boarders need cleaning and smartening up
- Jake Dewing (8/5): -

- George (8/5): Despite a couple of minor points we gad a nice stay. - Parking, value for money, clean and comfortable. Thanks Slightly odd that when bar shut at 11.00 we were asked to move to different tables. Stairs to outside rooms sloped downwards so you had to take care.
- Christopher (9/5): Perfect place for a restful night - Comfy bed with plenty of plug sockets in the room. Breakfast was very nice. Lots of room in the carpark.
- Launa (8/5): Good sized room with balcony. Nice food. Very good value stay. - Good sized room with balcony. Nice food. Good value stay.

- Nia (10/5): Excellent great value for money - Excellent stay staff are very friendly and helpful
Breakfast is outstanding and great value Nothing really
- Gary (8/5): Good value and location - Good location with free parking breakfast very good Room was ok a little bit tired and the timber staircase up to the room is becoming dangerous as the treads are rotting

Very difficult to flush the loo or clean teeth.
Shower was laborious, took forever.
- steven (8/5): -
- Alison (9/5): Overall good. - Location The rooms were a little bit dusty.
- Caroline (8/5): -
- jeremy (9/5): Great friendly place to stay . - Location and parking, comfortable bed. Excellent food esp. breakfast and esp, the Danish pastries. Lights in bedroom broken. Especially reading lights by bed.
- Kirstie (10/5): -

The pub is very nice, too.

- jack6583 (10/5): An excellent stay! - I felt I must review the bear hotel after my family visit on good Friday.we are regular visitors and on this occasion it was busy with many reserved tables which we should have done.the manager went beyond expectations and found us a table which really impressed us.the food and drinks were very good and the staff very helpful and professional.well done.
- sandy (9/5): - Beautiful village,location great.
1 night stay Was starting to look very tired
- Evelyn (7/5): Good value for money - Very friendly staff, the food was good and exceptional value. Sadly the outside of the property was very much in need of some work to be carried out but it was huge so can understand that financially it is probably not viable to do repairs and update.
- Andrew (10/5): Outstanding value , fabulous in every way, hence we have booked again! - We chose half board, the choice & quality of food ceased outstanding.
Our room although standard was large. The bed really comfortable.
We were on a roadside room , but are used to traffic noise.
We were so delighted we booked a further stay on arrival home! If not used to traffic noise noise say so when booking.
- Craig (8/5): Lovely charming hotel, great stay overall - Lovely hotel with a modern feel while still retaining its traditional character, which made for a very pleasant stay. Very clean and a very comfortable bed. Check-in took longer than expected as all staff were busy at the time, which was a little frustrating on arrival.
I also wasn’t aware when booking that there are no parking facilities available, which would have been helpful to know in advance.
This may have been my oversight in not reading the details but I don't remember it being prominent.
- Jenny (9/5): - The staff are incredible We had a fan come on in the room from around midnight until 7 in the morning I found it annoying
- Mark (8/5): -
- Tracey (8/5): Excellent Value For Money - Friendly, location, parking and value for money. Nothing.
- John (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): -
- Sandra (5/5): - Staff was very friendly and location good for us .
Breakfast was lovely, and bar area very comfortable.. We had no hot water and at one point no water at all
The hotel did refund a bit back .but we was there for a funeral and couldn't shower before .. so left a disappointment feeling..

- Lisa (7/5): Lovely stay great food just needs outside space to be cleaned up - Lovely clean room crisp sheets lovely food Had a balcony with room. Lovely day thought sit on balcony to be greeted by a pile of cigarette butts and the room next door had a glass full which had been there a while as it was full of water. Rooms are great outside space needs serious attention

- ANDREW (7/5): Nice place to stay - Great breakfast. Nice location for our needs. Could do with a deep clean and the hot water was questionable.

- Ruth (7/5): Good value, good location. - Location and car parking. Staff in the evening behind the bar were extremely rude.
- martyn (7/5): -
- wrighty1905 (6/5): Pretty mediocre. Cheap should be cheaper - we were a table of 10 and 2 meals were ok, rest were poor. Service was either non existent or very poor, the table wasn’t cleared from main courses when desserts were brought and the waitress made like that was ok.
- Neil (10/5): Great place to stay - All room. Food staff especially Katrina thank you Nothing
