Guest Reviews
- Luke (1/5): It was bad. - There were parking spaces. The food was warm. The staff were competent The bed was stained. There was hair on the bathroom floor. There were stains on the desk.
- Amber (6/5): -
- Cooper (9/5): Not the Holiday Inn, I New - The breakfast was good, clean hotel and friendly staff. They now do not have paper or plastic cups and No Coffee maker in the rooms and only one Ice machine on the second floor for the entire hotel.
- john (10/5): -
- Noah (8/5): It was fine. I’m glad they’re there. - Great value nice Staff No hot water one day
- Alicia (1/5): Worst “hotel” I’ve ever stayed in and I travel a lot. If you like meth and homeless people in the same hotel, this is th - Nothing This was the “motel” of hotel, motel, holiday inn. This should not even be called a Holiday Inn considering its google address is a Comfort Inn. I am certain meth was being cooked in this very location. It was disgusting. The room had a 2 inch gap at the door and I literally feared for my safety and health the entire time I was there. I woke up at 5am just to get out of there.
- marissa (10/5): -
- Tommy (9/5): -
- Kent (10/5): Great place, would stay there again - Great breakfast, great location
- Carole (1/5): -
- Gabriele (10/5): I - Convenient
- Evins (8/5): Only 2 luggage carts. Never saw that before. Had to make three trips coming and going. - clean quiet only 2 carts See below
- Lenesha (2/5): - I like that the property was in a great location.
It was also very clean. The first room they put us in the door to the would not stay closed or locked so they had to move to a much smaller room 😩🥲
- D8637ZLalanh (2/5): Terrible - Customer service was terrible. The room I reserved over 2 weeks prior was changed by the hotel without any notification to me. They would do nothing to fix the issue.
- Patrick (7/5): -
- Lee (6/5): - Bed Shower spout was very loose. Expensive for this property.
- Smith (8/5): -
- Kathleen (9/5): Comfortable - Quite N/A
- Virginia (10/5): It was very relaxing - Everything O
- Horning (10/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Comfortable and convenient. - The staff were friendly. The Wifi did not work. It didn't work and the staff offered us another code to use which also didn't work.
- Noah (10/5): -
- FRANK (6/5): -
- Jennie (7/5): It was good for the short amount of time I was there. - I could only access HBO on my television. The room was nice and I enjoyed the shower. Friendlier staff.
- James (9/5): Nice place - Comfy room, nice breakfast. Staff friendly Ice machine across from my room started at 5am. Very loud. Multiple users over next 2 hours made it impossible to sleep. It'd be great if they could move it.
- Christina (9/5): Quick Trip to Gloucester with a comfortable stay - Clean rooms with nice hot shower, comfortable beds, and fairly quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy check in and check out.
- Michelle (5/5): -
- Eleanor (2/5): - Very loud clientele I had to call the police. Workers staying at the facility partying in the parking lot. Hotel is clean but might be a low $$ place so hard to get rest.
- Oreste (6/5): - Air conditioning
- Sarah (10/5): - Great
- Christine (4/5): - Pros: You can bring your dog for only $25 a night. The staff was friendly. Hot breakfast available every morning.
Cons: The room was musty and smelled of mildew. Running the bathroom fan 24/7 and making sure the AC was running did not help. The walls had stains and the bathroom had beard shavings in the sink.
If it weren't for the poor air quality in the room, the rating would be 1-2 stars higher.
- Thomas (5/5): - First room was not clean
- Nakisha (6/5): - I normally stay at this hotwl when I stay in the area, but the room smelled like mildew and the tv didn't work at first until a staff memeber came and fixed that issue. The elevator worked fine the night we got there, but the next morning it seem to be not functioning well. Other than that it was a great stay and the breakfast was on point. Thank you for you hospitality great staff!!!
- Yolanda (10/5): - Check in customer service
- Joshua (10/5): - Great
- Leroy (4/5): - Their wasn’t any phones in the rooms, the breakfast was awful!!
- Max (6/5): - The staff was absolutely fantastic but the hotel itself needs some work. The woman at the front desk got me sorted in no time despite Hotels.com failing to send the reservation to them.
The elevator is quite rickety and the door doesn't close sometimes, requiring manual intervention that regulars seem to be aware of suggesting it's been like that for a while. When we got up to our room, our key card didn't work but come to find out the card reader just needed a new battery. Not only did the employee in the hall immediately notice we were having issues and offered to help, but he also then immediately informed the hotel of the dying battery and had someone up to replace it in little time. The room was fine although the A/C was a bit loud.
- Sabrina (6/5): - The first room given to us was overwhelming in its smell of cleaning products trying to hide the musty smell of mildew. Immediately requested a new room, which they provided and was no great change, but at least tolerable for the few hours of sleep needed. Would not have stayed if we had to spend any time in the hotel itself.
- Charles (3/5): The stay was unacceptable. - Pink mold in the bathroom.
Elevator sounds like it’s on its last leg.
Limited selections for breakfast.
- Elizabeth (2/5): - When we checked in and brought our belongings to our room I sat down at the desk and looked down and saw a bug at first I thought it was a cricket so I got a tissue to pick it up and when I showed my fiancé he said it was a cockroach, so we took it to the front desk and they proceeded to apologize and gave us another room, we moved our belongings from one room to the next that room had a smell of musty and pet urine mix, we were willing to give it a try since we had driven 6 hours to get there and hd plans to visit Busch Gardens, needless to say we spent the one night which I was unable to sleep because I was afraid bugs would be crawling on me. We checked out Saturday afternoon because we found 2 more cockroaches.
- Rosemarie (8/5): - Comfortable, clean, and convenient
- Maynard (7/5): - It was centrally located and everything was readily accessible The bed was old and had a big dip in it the refrigerator did not have a freezer and the elevator sounded like it was going to break every time it was used
- Noah (10/5): -
- Steven (10/5): -
- Sheila (2/5): Never again!! - Room stunk, coffee maker did not work, guests were slamming doors all night and yelling at their kids and they kept their dog locked in the room howling all day and in to the night. Horrible and we'll never stay here ever again.
- Jeffrey (4/5): - Staff, breakfast, and cleanliness were great. We had a room on the first floor and the ceiling must be lacking insulation or some type of sound barrier because we could hear whenever someone was walking in the room or the hallway above us. We were not able to sleep. We did appreciate the friendliness of the staff.
- Voyage776024m (8/5): Good stay despite housekeeping - Room was clean , plenty of hot water for showers. No daily housekeeping. First day was our fault since we were in the room later in the morning , second day no housekeeping. Last day we were there bed was made , trash bags changed but no clean towels supplied.Coffee pods were never restocked in room . Breakfast buffet was great , variety of hot foods served was different each day . Pool was clean . Other than housekeeping stay was fine . Would stay again . Staff friendly.
- Perkins (2/5): Disappointed - Breakfast was fine! Room was very dirty, bugs, carpet was filthy!! No space to eat and the experience was terrible.
- Tarsha (4/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): - Food could be little better
- Troutman (9/5): I would recommend this hotel. - It had everything you would need and it was convenient to family we were visiting
- Sharon (5/5): Not nice - Cleanliness The room was short of towels and no ice bucket or
laundry bag.
- Bruce (2/5): - Disappointed Stay – Not Up to Holiday Inn Express Standards
We’ve stayed at several Holiday Inn Express locations during our trip, and this one in Gloucester, VA, was by far the most disappointing. The property is clearly older and in need of updating. Our room smelled strongly of pine cleaner—almost like sawdust—and the carpet was grimy underfoot. The bathroom was unusually small, even for a budget hotel.
Breakfast was where things really fell apart. The staff member in charge was sitting in the dining area, wearing her kitchen hat, eating her own meal and chatting loudly with a friend, while several food stations were neglected. The juice machine had a layer of congealed juices under the cup holder. the coffee was lukewarm, and the pancake machine produced something closer to cardboard than food. Most items were unappealing or inedible.
This experience left us questioning the consistency of the Holiday Inn Express brand. We’ll be checking out the Hampton Inn next door and likely staying there next time we’re in the area.
- Julia (7/5): Would definitely stay here again! - The lady who checked us in was friendly, even though she mixed up my payment with someone else. I liked that she explained details of the hotel to us. I liked that we received clean towels when we asked for them. Breakfast had good warm options. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Plenty of parking available. Pool was dirty found hair in it and not just a little. It needs some cleaning.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- rebecca m (8/5): Nice, clean, comfortable - Hotel was close to where we needed to be, so we picked it. I was delighted by how clean and well maintained the facility was, and the great check-in. The room was clean and comfortable but seemed to be missing artwork (hooks on wall but no art) and maybe furniture (empty corner where I would expect to see a chair), and we had some problems working the AC from the thermostat. None of that really interfered with our enjoyment of our stay. Expect to be in the area again and would stay again with no hesitation.
- Donald (10/5): - Sunday we didn't have hot water so we couldn't take showers.
- Miranda (2/5): Very poor - They had roaches, breakfast was terrible
- Sondra (6/5): Not like the other Holiday Inn express - Because we were on the first floor near the exit door, I could hear people coming in and out all night . but the poor Customer Service was the room was never clean from Friday, June 27 through when we left Monday we were told they were short of staff when I saw the girls right next-door cleaning the room previous two hours the lock on the door was broken and I took pictures to that effect. The breakfast was decent. I was surprised no complaints there.
- Andrew (2/5): - Room was dirty couldn't stay want refund
- Janice (2/5): - Ac did not work, ants in room, house keeping was like a kid did it! Beds not made, floors were not swept or cleaned, trash was not emptied towels and etc were not brought to room.
- Everett (10/5): - The staff was excellent. Michael was an excellent help look as mob oh re s
- Denise (2/5): - We were on the first floor. Our room felt extremely damp. I placed bath towels on the lvt floors so we would not slip. I saw there was a small dehumidifier in the corner that was not running, I opened the tank and it was full with water. I emptied it and turned it on. We had to run the air at an extremely low temperature to help keep the humidity down. I went to the front desk and told the older gentleman that was there about the humidity and dampness in my room, I requested more towels as we used them on the floors. He acknowledged what I had told him and gave me towels. When we came back from the wedding Saturday evening the beds were made, the damp towels used as rugs from the day before were still on the floor, and the dehumidifier had to be emptied, yet again, actually I had to empty the dehumidifier numerous time that evening. The sound of the machine was loud and because the air was running continuously it made for yet another uncomfortable night of sleep. Both my husband I woke with encrusted eyes and congestion Sunday morning, so we packed up at 7 and left. Today I'm still feeling the effects of this. Please see photos attached.
- Jose (10/5): - Staff was helpful and very friendly.
- Myrna (10/5): - Everything was great except the toilet paper was running very low and it was hard to figure out how to put it on the dispenser.
- Erin (8/5): - Perfect location for dinning and shopping!
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Clean and well maintained, hot water problem was fixed as soon as they could. - Clean hotel, good staff, good neighborhood, with one good breakfast and one average breakfast. They had one morning with no hot water.
- JOHN (2/5): - The entire property was without hot water both Saturday night 5/24 and 5/25. We were unable to take either a bath or a shower. We were left unsatisfied.
- Melissa (4/5): - I was only there for 1 night came because of funeral. Check out on Saturday called Sunday because I noticed a pair of white sneakers I had just bought. Was forgot and nobody seems to know what happened to them. Live 3hrs away. Would have paid to had them mailed. I guess the housekeeper needed them more than me
- Valerie (4/5): This will be a last resort - It is not what it used to be.
- Celeste (4/5): - 1. No hot water due to a plumbing problem.
2. No discount due to Expedia booking.
3. Breakfast offerings were not edible.
- Karl (6/5): - The room was decent. However, the facility needs maintenance and repairs. The elevator does not consistently work and needs to adjusting at times to close the door. The service record was not listed in the elevator, so I’m not sure the last time it was checked. Also, the breakfast was not the best. Coffee was not available either of the mornings, and the food was inedible at times.
- Lauren (6/5): - Stayed for the night for a funeral. Last minute booking Room was clean. Elevator stopped working. Easy checkout.
- Donna (4/5): Make sure your room is clean - The room was very dirty. You could tell it hadnt been cleaned. Staff was amazing though. Even though for one night the room should be cleaned.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): - Close to many places to eat. Lots of history in old Gloucester.
- Rich (1/5): Bad -
- Amy (10/5): - My stay over all was good. But the mattress in room 126 needs to be replaced. Also the room was next to the staircase so I keep hearing people go in and out of the building thru our the nite
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (6/5): - The hotel needs to be renovated. Wallpaper peeling, and bathtub was rusted all over. Place was clean but just needs to be fixed up a bit. Oh and elevator was not in good shape so we just used stairs
- Xeuropn (10/5): Nice hotel experience in Gloucester - We were here for the Daffodil Festival and booked the night so we could thoroughly enjoy our experience. The hotel was located close enough to Main Street, so it was easily accessible. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Nicely appointed. You can tell that the staff here takes good care of the property. Patriots Grill is just around the corner and was a good place to eat. There are quite a few fast food restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.
- Deborah (2/5): - DIDNT GO DUE TO ILLNESS.NOT ALLOWED TO RESCHEDULE OR CANCEL. ROBBED $239 FOR ROOM DIDNT USE YOU MUST HATE SENIORS
- Kenny (8/5): Very good -
- Shawn (10/5): Exceptional - Great everything
- Robert (10/5): - What you would normally get at Holiday Inn
- Tim (2/5): NO HOT WATER - Terrible, NO HOT WATER !!! After a long day and wanting a few hours sleep and a hot shower, awoke to NO HOT WATER. Not enough time to try and have them resolve. TERRIBLE START for the day. Next time, I'll stay at the Hampton INN next door (stayed there before with no issues)
- Ridge (6/5): TOTAL LACK OF SERVICING ROOMS AND AN ATTITUDE TOO! - Unfortunately, our hotel lacked proper servicing of rooms due to staff shortage the entire 13 nights of our stay. Well if they don't have the staff, then don't sell the rooms. We are in hospitality ourselves and their refusal to change our sheets or service our TWO rooms and the attitude is not acceptable. They are a hotel -- service your rooms. If staff is short and management is not there on the weekends, then maybe management should come in and clean the rooms themselves. That is what I have done when my staff is short
- Corey (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (10/5): I had a great experience. The facility was clean and met my expectations. The staff was friendly. - Delicious, a variety of options. I have no complaints or comments about dislikes.
- Renette (10/5): - Only hotel I will use when the price is reasonable
- Sheila1121 (10/5): Exceptional - location was good
- Cynthia (10/5): - Great location and very dog friendly!
- Neven L (8/5): - Staff was friendly and i liked that they had some different breakfast options each day instead of the same thing every day like a lot of other places
- Easton (6/5): - My room was constantly lit up and the elevator was "sketchy" when it came to what floor it wanted.
- Samuel (8/5): - Each time I stayed here property and rooms were up to par as best as they could. Staff were welcoming and breakfast was a plus. (Request: Breakfast be until 10:30 am)
- Regina (8/5): Very good -
- Shafonda (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and friendly staff. I loved everything. Friendly staff and very clean and comfy.
- Joanna (8/5): Thanks - Very good
- Nette (10/5): Exceptional -
