Grace (7/5): Nice hotel but misleading name as not at airport - Food at the restaurant was well priced and really tasty. Nice to have hotel gym also It is misleading to call this City Lodge Johannesburg airport - this is not the one at the airport, which is what we thought we had booked. This is a 10 min drive from the airport and the return taxi journey cost us £50.

Ann (9/5): A good hotel and quieter than being at the airport - Quiet, clean, friendly staff, great food. It’s advertised as an airport hotel but is not at the airport. You need to take a taxi. If you want to be at the airport be sure to book O R Tambo City Lodge.

The next best option was City Lodge Barbara Road and although the location is not as ideal for an overnight stay (a 10 min drive from the airport), I found the hotel very good, the highlight being the warm smile from the receptionist (Lewis?) who made sure I felt welcome and well looked after.

Barbara (4/5): Be aware City Lodge has two airport properties. - looks like the property is new or under renovation. The room, though small was freshly designed with modern type decor. The hotel I wanted was the one that is actually in the airport - not the one I ended up in. Very confusing to have two airport hotels. The one off airport was inconvenient and is very basic - no toiletries whatsoever, very small room. Under construction. The shuttle transfer costs about $28 US round trip for 5 minute drive.

The way the waiter spoke to me and him making me feel inferior. - Hello City Lodge Hotel Barbara Road : The waiter was condescending. Made me feel like i was asking for too much by making any request on the menu. Proceed to tell me city lodge is not like all the other hotels when request service at the restaurant. I honestly had to leave the restaurant and order room service. I did even mind the construction and the small of paint and dust but your waiter was not helpful at all.

ectraveller12 (10/5): Convenient location - This is a nice hotel when transiting through Johannesburg. We spent a night on two separate occasions recently. The best aspect is the closeness to the airport. It is an easy 5 minute walk from the airport through a well li corridor that runs alongside the parking garage. The hotel has a restaurant with decent food. The rooms are fine with comfortable beds. I would stay here again if transiting through Johannesburg.

Brian (5/5): My stay was almost adequate. - The bed was fine. I was in the basement. There was not an elevator to get to the basement. I had to role my suitcases down the stairs. Horrible experience. The tv cable was limited. The heater in the room worked inadequately. It took forever to warm up the room. I walked to the front desk to request an iron and board. Received the iron and board very quickly at my room. The iron was leaking water faster than I could iron. I went back up to the front desk to request another iron because the iron I had was leaking. The lady at the front called housekeeping for another iron. This time another iron and board never showed up. Highly disappointed.

It was too far to walk, (they told me 4km) but such a short drive. I thought I was booking the OR Tambo City Lodge and didn't realize it was the "other" airport City Lodge. :( It was a hassle to get there.

Mzwandile (2/5): Disappointing service at city lodge Barbara Edenva - I booked for the non smoking and they allocated us a smoking room and my partner had flu. When I asked if they can transfer us to Midrand waterfall they said it's impossible. Secondly Uber eat guy was not allowed to deliver to the door meanwhile in waterfall they do delivery with no hassles. Patient didn't even call us at the room that there is a delivery for us if they're not allowing Uber guys to walk in. What are the rooms phones for. I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE OF CITY LODGE BARBARA. I'M CONSIDERING TELLING ALL MY COLLEAGUES AT SARS NOT TO GO THERE AS I DOUBT I'LL EVER COME BACK AFTER THIS. I'm truly disappointed with City Lodge Barbara Edenvale. Service is so very low and not up to standard at all. I'm not sure if the guys are not trained how to handle visitors I'm really not sure and the price for the rooms are more expensive than Midrand but service and the room conditions is far far away different. Why is that? Why are we treated like that I'm so disappointed ☹️☹️☹️

weezie333 (6/5): Front desk needs better training - Service from front desk could have been better.i stayed overnight with a group tour after a long flight from the USA. After eating a pretty good meal at the hotel, when I returned to my room, my door key did not work. After several tries I hiked back to the front desk. The receptionist (I think her name was Winnie but not sure), insisted I did not know how to use the card key. She sent someone back with me who also couldn’t open the door. He left to seek help and did not return after more than ten minutes while i stood in the hallway. I went back down to the front desk and was informed we somehow missed each other in the hallway. I went back to my room where I’d left two drinking glasses on the floor and came upon two men working on my door. Turns out the card reader battery was low. If the receptionist had not assumed me too dumb to figure out how to slide a room key in and out of a slot, she might have done a better job of helping me so I wouldn’t have to stand in the hallway in front of my room for an excessive period of time.

IcyMike13 (8/5): Convenient and comfortable for a night or 2. Good value - Great for an overnight, conveniently located. Typical City Lodge design. It’s a bit of a walk, up a few escalators, then lift to the hotel lobby, but not complicated. I’ve stayed here a few times now. Rooms are clean, comfortable, modern and bright. No issues except that the staff tak no payment at the restaurant are always very very slow. After going to pay for breakfast 4 times I still couldn’t pay, and I’m sorry but I was out of time.

It is conveniently close to the airport with shuttle Services available. They have a good buffet breakfast, a swimming pool, and an exercise room. They recently raised their price for breakfast to 130 Rand, which is a little high. Although that does include breakfast, drinks and all you can eat at the buffet. It's just that I can't eat that much that early in the morning.
